The present invention relates to a method for smoothing a solid thermoplastic tread layer, in particular a polyethylene layer, on skis.
The running surfaces of modern skis are usually made of polyethylene foils or foils made from another thermoplastic material. the films of suitable thickness being produced, in particular by extrusion, and being applied to the ski body between the steel edges.
Both from the production of the foils and from the general production process of the ski arise, z. B. due to differences in thickness and other factors caused unevenness on the tread. The tread surface, d. H. the running surface layer is therefore not set up exactly at the height of the steel edges from the start, but is made to protrude over the steel edges on the running surface side.
The running surface is now known to be smoothed by grinding using grinding belts, which inevitably also come into contact with the steel edges of the ski, with an undesirable, mostly concave, curvature of the running surface between the edges usually resulting.
Furthermore, in this grinding process, a plurality of fibers are formed on the tread surface; H. generated or exposed, which can then be laid flat using polishing agents, but which later stand up again and impair the sliding ability of the running surface.
Although it was possible to counteract the first-mentioned disadvantage, namely the creation of a curved running surface, by using grinding stones instead of grinding belts, the disadvantage of the formation of fibers on the running surface could neither be remedied by this nor by subsequent fine sanding.
The invention is based on the object of eliminating the described disadvantages of the known smoothing processes, that is to say of creating the possibility of producing a running surface running flat between the steel edges, and thereby avoiding fiber formation.
To solve this problem, the invention relates to a method for smoothing a solid thermoplastic tread layer, in particular a polyethylene layer, on skis, which is characterized in that part of the thermoplastic tread layer is removed with relative movement in the longitudinal direction of the ski between the ski and a smoothing edge of a heated smoothing body transverse to the longitudinal direction of the ski .
Because the smoothing edge of the heated smoothing body acts not only mechanically but also thermally on the running surface layer, it can be partially removed in the state, preferably plasticized or melted by the smoothing edge, without fiber formation occurring. Because you can train the smooth edge straight or shaped with ease and z. B. can lead directly to the steel edges of the ski, but also by other means at a suitable height, the desired curved course between the steel edges can also be achieved, or the running surface can even be given a predetermined shape, which can be used for later processing might prove useful.
The smoothing edge of the smoothing body is advantageously formed by two smoothing body surfaces that converge on it at an acute angle, with both surfaces preferably being held at an acute angle to the tread part that has just been leveled. The angle between the tread part that has just been leveled and the smoothing body surface facing it, which leads to the smoothing edge, is preferably small. The two surfaces forming the smoothing edge in turn converge at an acute angle to form a cutting edge. The front surface should advantageously have a kind of hollow grind. This not only has the advantage of forming the smoothing edge as a very sharp cutting edge, but also the advantage that the removed material is rolled in front of the cutting edge, similar to a snow plow.
Although it is also possible to successfully move the smoothing body in relation to the ski that is held stationary, it is often preferred to keep the smoothing body itself stationary and to move the ski past the smoothing edge.
The temperature of the smoothing edge or that of the smoothing body can, for example, be regulated by an electric heater of 2000 to 2500 watts, preferably thermostatically, in a range of z. B. 130 to 700 "C, whereby the appropriate temperature can be set on the tread material and the speed of the relative movement between the smoothing edge and ski. As a rule, higher temperatures will be used with higher molecular weight, ie higher-melting thermoplastics, and preferably Use higher temperatures with similar thermoplastics at increasing speed.
The method according to the invention can be carried out with a device which is characterized in that it has a smoothing body, that means are provided for heating the smoothing body, and that the smoothing body has a blade-like smoothing edge which is formed by two surfaces that meet at an acute angle.
The device advantageously has means which allow a speed of the relative movement between the smoothing edge and the running surface of the ski that is matched to the temperature of the smoothing body and the tread raw material to be achieved, whereby roller-like means and guides can serve for this purpose, so that the desired optimal inclination between the smoothing body ( Smoothing edge) and running surface are achievable.
The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, for example. Show it:
1 shows a schematic diagram of a ski fragment with a smoothing body drawn over it,
FIG. 2 shows, in an enlarged illustration compared to FIG. 1, a schematic longitudinal section through a ski fragment with a smooth body fragment drawn over it,
3 shows, in an enlarged illustration compared to FIG. 2, a smoothing body fragment comprising the smoothing edge from the same view as in FIG. 2, and
Fig. 4, drawn approximately to the scale of Fig. 2, the essential parts of a device according to the invention.
As can be seen in particular in FIGS. 1 to 3, the smoothing body 2 has a blade-like smoothing edge 211 which (as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2) is attached to the tread thermoplastic layer 11 of a ski 1 and (FIG. 1) by moving the smoothing body 2 in the direction of arrow A or by moving the ski 1 in the direction of arrow B can be pulled over the tread 11 that it removes the uneven part 111 from the uneven raw tread thermoplastic layer 11 and thereby behind the smoothing or. Pull-off edge 211 allows a smoothed, leveled running surface 111 'to arise. The edge regions of the smoothing edge 211 slide on the steel edges 10 of the ski 1 which, like the tread thermoplastic layer 11, are fastened to the body of the ski 1, generally designated 12.
Referring to FIGS. 2 to 4, the peeling body 2 will now be discussed in more detail. An electrical heater (not shown) contained in a heating block 22 (the supply line can be seen but not identified in FIG. 4) heats this block 22 and the steel blade 21 clamped into it, which is exchangeably held in block 22 by means not shown in detail. Means, not shown, are also provided for setting the temperature of the smoothing body 2 and keeping it constant.
The front side of the blade 21 has a hollow grind 213 which, together with the underside 212 of the blade, forms the cutting edge 211 serving as a peeling or smoothing edge, it being evident that the angle V (FIG. 2) between the cutting edge 211 forming surfaces 212 and 213 in the vicinity of the cutting edge 211 is extremely small. The angle W (Fig. 2) between the underside 212 of the blade 21 and the leveled tread portion 111 '(which is at the level of the steel edge top 10', Figs. 2 and 3) is also acute, e.g. B. here between 10 and 15 ". It is not insignificant that the surface 212 touches the surface 111 'only in the area of the peeling edge 211, but is very close to it.
It should be noted here that the inclination of the individual surfaces discussed can be a function not only of the plastic of the running surface, but also of the cutting speed and the temperature, which is why in the device according to FIG. 4 means are provided for the inclination of the surfaces mentioned easy to adjust to each other. As a rule, this adjustment only needs to be carried out if the optimal conditions for a specific case are to be determined anew, which can then be done through simple experiments. However, if you know the requirements for processing a certain ski and its ski base from earlier, you can of course set the device correctly from the start.
In the device of FIG. 4 which is well suited for performing the method according to the invention, the parts already known from FIGS. 1 to 3 are provided with the same transfer symbols.
The peeling body 2 can be seen, with the heating block 22 and the blade 21. The heating block 22 is rigidly connected (e.g. by screws not shown) to a rotary disk 23, which in turn is mounted on the base plate P of the device so that it can rotate about an axis 232 can be fixed by screws 231 on the plate P. As a result, the adjustment just discussed of the angle of the surfaces forming the cutting edge with respect to the ski surface can be achieved. So that the ski is always inclined to the smoothing edge (not designated in Fig. 4), a roller 4 is mounted on the base plate P on axis 4 '.
The machined running surface, which is indicated here by the dash-dotted steel edge top 10 ', lies on the roller 4 and on the smoothing edge, even if the drive roller 33 changes its position (as will be shown) with respect to the peeling edge due to the curvature of the ski and the variable thickness of the ski body.
So that the drive roller 33, which transports the ski past the smoothing edge of the blade 21 in the direction of arrow B, can take account of such differences in thickness of the ski body, it is mounted on the swing arm 31 together with its drive shaft 34. The motor for driving the shaft 34 and the roller 33 cannot be seen. The means for continuously regulating the roller speed are also not apparent. They can be conventional. The swing arm 31 is pivotably articulated on the axis 32 attached to the base plate P and is under the action of a pneumatic spring, the cylinder 36 of which is mounted on the axis 35 on the plate P, while its piston rod 37 is articulated on the lever 31 on the axis 38.
This pneumatic spring 36, 37 has the advantage over a mechanical spring that can also be used per se that its pressure can be independent of the thickness of the ski, and its pressure can also be easily regulated.
In the base plate P, which can serve as a side stop for the machined ski, a window 5 is provided through which the tread material that has been removed can be removed. It is advantageous if the base plate P is arranged horizontally so that the tread material that has been removed moves more or less automatically towards the window 5 in some cases. An inclination of the smoothing edge with respect to the longitudinal axis of the ski can also have a beneficial effect.
In addition to a currently theoretically optimal running surface 111 'running flat between the steel edges 10 of the ski, it can also be useful under certain circumstances to produce a slightly convex curvature, be it to prevent hollow grinding of the running surface when regrinding the edges, be it a to create deliberate elevation of the tread for other reasons. But you can also create a different shape of the tread in this way, if this proves to be necessary for any reason.
It can be seen from the drawing that part of the tread layer is removed mechanically, this cutting, peeling, planing, or whatever else you want to call the removal process, but supported thermally, which surprisingly can take place without fiber formation or smearing, even though the plastic is superficial plasticized, if not even melted.
