La fig. 1 est une vue partielle, en coupe verticale, de la pre miére forme d'exécution;
la fig. 2 est une vue en élévation de l'arrière;
l'arbre moteur.

The present invention relates to a motor boat of new design in which the transmission of the movement of the motor shaft to the propulsion device can be achieved without any intermediate mechanism (gearbox, gears, etc.).
This boat is characterized by the fact that the propulsion means are constituted by a turbine and by a device making it possible to reverse the direction of the thrust of this turbine without changing the direction of rotation of its rotor.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial view, in vertical section, of the first embodiment;
fig. 2 is a rear elevational view;
figs. 3 and 4 are views similar to FIGS. 1 and 2 of the second embodiment.
The boat shown in fig. 1 and 2 is a boat of the inboard type comprising an internal combustion engine 10 placed at the rear of the hull 11.
The shaft 12 of this engine, which crosses the transom of the boat in a ball bearing 13, carries at its free end the rotor of a turbine 14 formed of two rings of concentric but inverted blades 15 and 16.
As will be explained in detail below, the outer ring 15 is intended for propelling the boat in forward gear, the inner ring 16 for propelling in reverse.
On an outer surface of the bearing 13 is rotatably mounted a cylindrical casing 17 enveloping the rotor of the turbine. This casing has two deflector screens 18 and 19, diametrically opposed, each closing at complementary angles the entry of the rings 15 and 16. The angular position of this casing can be controlled by the pilot of the boat by means of a transmission. comprising a toothed wheel 20 engaged with a toothing 21 cut in the hub of the housing 17. Two main positions illustrated at the top and the bottom of the figure are provided, which correspond respectively to the forward and reverse of the boat.
When the engine 10 is running, the action of the turbine 14 is conditioned by the position of the housing 17. In the first case (upper part of the figure), the water can only circulate through the turbine in the direction of the flow. forward arrow, the thrust will be directed forward and the boat will be propelled forward; in the second case (lower part of the figure), the water will only be able to circulate in the turbine in the direction of the AR arrow, the thrust will be directed backwards and the boat will be propelled in reverse.
The shapes of the deflector screens 18 and 19 will naturally be determined so as to obtain maximum efficiency from the turbine.
It should be noted in this connection that from a certain speed the boat will rise, which will help to increase this efficiency.
The boat shown in fig. 3 and 4 is also an inboard type vessel. In this second embodiment, we find
the motor 10, the shell 11, the motor shaft 12, the ball bearing 13.
The rotor of the turbine 14 comprises only one ring
vanes 15 corresponding to the forward gear of the boat.
As for the housing 17, which can also turn on a span
of the bearing 13 and whose angular position can equal
be controlled by the pilot by means of a transmission
comprising a toothed wheel 20 meshing with a toothing 21 of the
housing, it consists of a cylindrical casing 22 surrounding
the rotor of the turbine and by a chamber 23 extending over a sector of about 1800. The periphery of this chamber is divided
in longitudinal channels 24 which alternately open towards
the front and rear of the boat and which are alternately in
opposite relation to the rotor.
It follows that when
this chamber is in its lower position (top of the figure),
The water can only flow through the turbine in the direction of
AR arrow, which in other words means that the thrust is
reversed and that in these conditions the boat is moving in quarry mode.
The main advantage of the boats described lies in the fact that the turbine always turns in the same direction, in forward gear and
in reverse, allowing it to be mounted directly on
the motor shaft.
