The invention relates to a plastic tongue depressor.
Doctors need large quantities of mouth spatulas. For reasons of cost, they have therefore mainly been made from wood up to now. However, wooden spatulas cannot easily be kept germ-free. In addition, they are sensitive to moisture during storage and, moreover, are not shatterproof.
Such tongue depressors have therefore already been produced in the form of a plastic strip rounded at both ends. For reasons of the required flexural rigidity, the thickness of these known plastic mouth spatulas is at least as great as that of the wooden mouth spatulas.
Because of the resulting high material consumption, the known plastic tongue depressors are too expensive and also too heavy, which latter aspect is reflected in the shipping costs, which are also significant in particular in the case of a mass-produced article, which is here.
The invention is based on the object of creating a plastic tongue depressor that combines low weight and the highest possible stability.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the tongue depressor has a profile that increases its flexural rigidity in the longitudinal direction.
In this way, considerable material savings can be achieved in an advantageous manner, so that it is possible, while maintaining the advantages of the use of plastic, namely in particular odor and taste neutrality as well as insensitivity to temperature and humidity fluctuations and other environmental influences, both with regard to the production costs and with regard to the Shipping costs to compete with the wooden tongue depressors.
An embodiment of the tongue depressor according to the invention, which is particularly expedient in terms of production technology, is characterized in that the profiling is a bead-like expression. Such an expression can be carried out with relatively simple compression or injection molding tools.
A particularly favorable embodiment of the tongue depressor with regard to the desired high flexural rigidity is that the bead-like expression has its greatest width in the center of the tongue-depressor and this width and the depth of the bead-like expression decreases to zero in the direction of the two ends of the spatula .
With regard to the handling of the tongue depressor, it is advantageous if the bead-like expression runs out at a distance from the two ends of the spatula.
A further material saving can also be achieved by additionally influencing the material distribution in the thickness direction of the tongue depressor, which can be particularly advantageously carried out so that it has an accumulation of material that increases its flexural strength in its flat parts along the edges of the bead-like expression.
In order to achieve a flat surface at least on one side of the spatula, it is advantageous if the accumulation of material is on the side of the bead-like expression and its outflow is greatest on both sides.
A further advantageous embodiment allows an advertising message to be attached in a simple manner by means of embossing or printing, and consists in the fact that the bottom of the embossing is flat.
The tongue depressor is advantageously made of polystyrene, as this plastic is shatterproof, produces smooth and clean edges and surfaces, and is physiologically and hygienically perfect.
Overall, the tongue depressor according to the invention is characterized in all of its embodiments by good handiness, good pressure transmission due to the design, low packing volume and ease of stacking.
In the drawing, the tongue depressor according to the invention is illustrated using an embodiment selected as an example.
Show it:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the tongue depressor,
2 shows a side view of the tongue depressor,
3 shows a perspective illustration of the underside of the tongue depressor,
FIG. 4 shows a section along the line IV-IV in FIG. 3,
5 shows an enlarged section along the line V-V in FIGS. 1 and
6 shows an enlarged section along the line VI-VI in FIG. 1.
The tongue depressor according to Fig. 1 consists of a plastic strip with rounded ends, which is provided with a longitudinally extending bead-like expression 1, the widest point of which is approximately in the middle of the spatula and which tapers to approximately V-shaped after the two ends. The purpose of this expression is to give the plastic spatula the greatest possible stability in its longitudinal direction with the least possible material expenditure. In order to ensure this stability also in the end areas in which the cross-section of the expression is already quite small, a bead-like accumulation of material 3 is provided in the area of the taper or the outlet 4 of the expression 1 on both sides.
FIG. 2 shows the profile of the depression and the course of the material accumulation 3 in a side view of the spatula, which also shows that the underside of the spatula is kept completely flat.
FIG. 3 (as well as FIG. 1) shows that the base 5 of the expression is also flat in the selected embodiment, so that it can be provided with a printed or embossed advertising message, which is often common. In addition, it can be seen from FIG. 3 that the expression does not extend to the ends of the spatula, but rather ends at 2.
The longitudinal section through the spatula according to FIG. 4 shows once again how it is given a high level of flexural rigidity over its entire length due to the interaction of the expression 1 and the material accumulations 3.
The distribution of the material accumulations 3 over the width of the spatula can be seen from the cross sections according to FIGS. 5 and 6.
A particularly suitable material is a shatterproof plastic, which is easily deformable and gives smooth and clean edges and surfaces, and is hygienic and physiologically compatible.
