Abstract
The natural face on sawn granite edge such as kerbs for roadside use, obtains rustic lustre or sparkle of quartz by subjecting at least one face to heat from preferably an oxy-acetylene burner. This procedure obviates prior point tooling etc. A block comprising four edging units (2, 3, 4, 5) in section is cable sawn (6) across the grain; the resulting sawn surface is then subjected to the proximity of the burner flame at a temperature of approx. 3000 deg.C. The two blocks are then split (7) along the grain to obtain the four edging units and the split surfaces similarly treated.
Description

The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a granite border. for example for a sidewalk, and the edge thus obtained.
Granite is a hard rock formed from crystals of feldspar, quartz and mica.
Its texture is grainy.
The granite blocks used for construction are wire sawn.
Sawn surfaces are smooth. no longer presenting the natural roughness of rock.
The mason gives them a raw appearance by cutting them with a chisel.
by working them on a spindle.
This stone recutting work is very long and painful.
The present invention attempts to remedy these drawbacks by a method characterized in that at least one surface of the border is heated by a jet of flame. after being sawn, to shatter the quartz crystals and give it the rustic look of spitwork.
The accompanying drawing (FIG. 1) illustrates schematically and by way of example an embodiment of the flamed edges.
In addition, FIG. 2 shows a block of granite sawn to the wire of FIG. 3. a block having undergone the heat treatment.
From a block of granite I of indifferent length, but with a section corresponding to 4 edges 2, 3. 4 and 5, the counter-grain of the stone is sawn with a cable along the horizontal plane determined by line 6.
The sawn surfaces of the two blocks thus obtained are flamed determining the final horizontal part of the borders.
These surfaces are flamed. that is to say that we treat ther
mically the hardest part of the rock.
An oxyacetyl burner is passed very near the stone
enique diffusing a flame of about 3000 degrees and which
burst quartz. The burner is oblique along the stone.
The two blocks obtained are then split in the vertical direction (line 7).
The vertical part of the edges is erected after slicing
and then treated with flame jet. so as to have the same
aspect only on the horizontal part.
This method allows to obtain an absolute regularity of
borders, both in direction and plan. while maintaining the appearance
rustic spitwork.
CLAIMS
1. Method of manufacturing a granite border. characterized
by the fact that at least one surface of the border is heated by
a jet of flame, after having been sawn, to burst the quartz crystals and give it the rustic appearance of spitwork.
II. Granite edging obtained by the process according to claim I.
SUB-CLAIM
Process according to Claim 1, characterized in that the flame is diffused by an oxyacetylene burner.
