The present invention relates to a cutting pliers whose blades are interchangeable and capable of being removably fixed on its two jaws.
Traditional cutters are fitted with blades which generally form an integral part of the tool with which they are permanently attached.
By this arrangement, when the blades are damaged but the other parts are nevertheless in good working order, the whole tool becomes definitively out of service, even though said other parts are normally more expensive than the blades. Thus, such a block construction for such a tool is, economically, nonsense.
The cutting pliers with removable blades according to the present invention proposes to overcome this drawback. To this end, it is presented as a device in which both the part which acts as a blade and the rest of the tool are made independently and capable of being interchangeable, so that the blades can be easily and economically replaced, if necessary, while retaining the other usable parts of the tool.
In one embodiment of the clamp, each of the two jaws of the clamp is traversed by a plurality of threaded holes arranged along the length of the jaws. These jaws are able to receive a removable blade, which also has a corresponding set of threaded holes aligned with those of the jaw.
Jaws and blades are secured in pairs by means of a screw fixing system using their aligned threaded holes. Jaws and the rest of the tool, except the blades, can be made using mild steel for extended use. Conversely, the blades preferably use high speed steel, so as to obtain improved cutting power. In another version, the aligned holes of the blades and the jaws are not threaded and the solidarity of the whole is obtained by the use of bolts and nuts, or even any other similar fixing system.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the cutting pliers according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view, in elevation, without the blades.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the set of blades.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1 but with the blades attached to the device.
Fig. 4 is a side view, in elevation, along line 4-4 of FIG. 2.
Fig. 5 is a detail view, in elevation, of part of FIG. 3.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view of part of FIG. 5.
Referring to the drawing, two members 10 and 12, made of mild steel, are held together by a pivot 14. These members are extended, at the front of the pivot, by end sections 16 and 18 constituting the jaws of the clamp. . Each of these two jaws is provided with holes 19, arranged in a spaced position along the longitudinal axis of the jaw. The members 10 and 12 are extended, behind the pivot, by parts 20 and 22 acting as handles. These handles are curved so as to move away from each other. They are, on the other hand, united, at the height of the pivot, by a tension spring 24, the action of which tends to move the handles away from one another. By the action of the pivot 14, the jaws 16 and 18 are forced towards each other when the handles 20 and 22 are pressed.
Two blades 26 and 28 are provided with holes 30 aligned with the corresponding holes 19 of the jaws. By the use of bolts 34 and nuts 32 disposed through the aligned holes 30 and 19, each of the blades is made integral with the corresponding jaw. The ends 26 'and 28' of the blades are cutting and move away from each other with respect to the longitudinal axis of the clamp, so as to present between them a V-shaped gap 36 facilitating cutting. The blades 26 and 28 can be made of high speed steel.
