The present invention relates to an antiperspirant which is present in an aerosol can in the form of an aerosol spray composition and which has improved stability over known products.
Antiperspirants, that is, agents for inhibiting perspiration, have been known for a long time. The active ingredients used for such antiperspirants are, above all, astringent substances which, in appropriate concentrations, give irreversible precipitations with protein substances.
Such substances are, in particular, metal compounds, tannins, for example tannin, formaldehyde and its polymerization and condensation products, as well as organic acids and their salts and reaction products. A detailed summary of these substances and their mechanisms of action can be found in the work of H.P. Fiedler, Der Schweiss (1968, Editio Cantor KG, Aulendorf).
The various substances can be incorporated into solutions, creams, sticks, lotions or powders, if necessary also in mixtures with one another to achieve a wider spectrum of activity. The incorporation of the antiperspirant substances into aerosol preparations has proven to be particularly expedient, with the aid of which the active ingredients can be applied quickly and without problems.
However, difficulties have arisen in the preparation of aerosol spray compositions of the usual type which contain substances with antiperspirant action as active ingredients. If these active ingredients are present in the aerosol container in the form of an alcoholic solution, as is the case with deodorants of the usual composition, corrosion on the inner surface of the metal aerosol container occurs after a short time, which primarily changes the fragrance due to the decomposition of the perfume used and thus makes the product unusable.
Attempts have been made to avoid this unpleasant phenomenon by taking two measures. One possibility is to suspend the active, antiperspirant constituents, in particular aluminum or zinc compounds, in an organic aerosol propellant, optionally in the presence of a softening substance, a so-called emollient, i.e. to produce a dry spray. This form of application has the disadvantage that the product has to be shaken thoroughly before use and, which is more serious, this dry spray can very easily cause blockages of the dispensing valve.
Another possibility of avoiding the corrosion problems outlined above when an alcoholic solution of the active ingredient is present is to use aerosol cans, in particular aluminum monobloc cans, the inside of which is provided with a protective lacquer. However, it has been shown that the protective lacquers based on epoxy and / or phenolic resins usually used for this purpose are not sufficient to avoid corrosion damage, since in aluminum aerosol cans that were provided with internal protective lacquers of this type also after a relatively short time Time corrosion appeared in the presence of an alcoholic solution of antiperspirant aluminum or zinc compounds.
It has now been found that stable antiperspirants in aerosol form can be obtained over a long period of time if these agents, which are in alcoholic solution and preferably contain alcohol-soluble zinc or aluminum compounds as active antiperspirant constituents, are filled into an aerosol can, preferably an aluminum monobloc can which contains an interior protective coating based on a vinyl chloride polymer or copolymer.
In addition to polyvinyl chloride, a copolymer consisting of a predominant proportion, preferably 80-99.5% by weight, of vinyl chloride and a smaller proportion of a vinyl and / or (meth) acrylic ester, in particular vinyl acetate, is particularly suitable for this purpose.
The following comparative experiments were carried out to document the improved storage stability of the aerosol compositions according to the invention:

The aerosol antiperspirants were given for 4 months at 45 ° C or Stored at room temperature. After a storage time of 4 months, the perfuming of the products was checked and, after removing the contents of the can, the cans were opened and examined for signs of corrosion.

As already indicated above, vinyl chloride polymers as well as homopolymers can also be used as copolymers of vinyl chloride with one or more comonomers, although the vinyl chloride content should generally be above 50% by weight.
Suitable compounds which can be copolymerized with vinyl chloride are, in particular, vinyl esters, such as vinyl acetate and vinyl propionate; Acrylic esters and methacrylic esters, such as methyl, ethyl or. n-butyl (meth) acrylate; (Meth) acrylonitrile; Vinyl ether, vinylidene chloride; Maleic or fumaric acid esters; Styrene and α-methyl styrene.

The antiperspirant substances to be used in the context of the invention must, as already stated, be alcohol-soluble. Aluminum and zinc compounds are ideal for this. Complexes of such salts with organic compounds containing hydroxyl groups, for example aluminum chlorohydroxide complexes with polyhydric alcohols or polyglycols, for example polyethylene glycol, mono- or dihydroxycarboxylic acids, aluminum chlorhydroxy alcoholate complexes, e.g. an aluminum chlorhydroxyethylate complex, aluminum and zinc alcoholates, which can also be reacted with polyalcohols, an aluminum chlorhydroxyallantoinate complex or aluminum dihydroxyallantoinate and aluminum acetylacetonate.
Particularly advantageously usable in the context of the present invention is the under the name Rehydrol A.S.C. Aluminum hydroxychloride / propylene glycol complex sold by Reihes & Co., Inc., and an aluminum hydroxychloride / polyglycol ether complex, such as those marketed by Waverly Chemical Co. under the trade name Glycoral.
Aluminum and / or zinc phenol sulfate, sulfobenzoate, sulfoacetate or ethane disulfonate are also suitable, alcohol-soluble, perspiration-inhibiting substances.
In the context of the invention, it is of course also possible to use mixtures of the named or other known antiperspirant alcohol-soluble astringents.
If desired, the antimicrobial agents known for this purpose, which inhibit or kill the sweat-decomposing bacteria, can be added to the preparations according to the invention in order to produce an additional deodorant effect. In particular, the substituted phenols may be mentioned, for example the 2,2 dihydroxy-3,3 ', 5,5', 6,6'-hexachlorodiphenylmethane known under the common name hexachlorophene, furthermore 2,4-dichloro-3,5-m- xylenol, p-chloro-m-xylenol, 2,2'-thiobis (4,6-dichlorophenol) (bithionol), trichloroxixylenol, tetrabromo-o-cresol, 2-benzyl-4-chlorophenol and halogenated 2 'hydroxydiphenyl ethers, especially 2 , 4,4'-trichloro-2'-hydroxydiphenyl ether.
Other suitable substances in this context are halogenated anilides, for example trichlorosalicylanilide, 3,5,4'-tribromosalicylanilide, 3, 5, 3'.4 tetrachlorosalicylanilide, 2-hydroxibenzoylanilide, 5-halo-3 (trifluoromethyl) salicylanilide, or dipwhenyl-substituted thioureas, for example 3,3,4'-trichlorocarbanilide, diguanides, in particular 2,6-bis (4-chlorophenylbiguanido) hexane, 1- (3-chloroallyl) -3,5,7, known under the common name chlorhexidine -triaza-1-azoniumadamantane chloride or mixtures of these substances with one another or with other known bactericides. The proportion of bactericides in the aerosol compositions according to the invention is expediently about 0.05 to about 3% by weight.
The antiperspirant according to the invention in aerosol form usually contains a softening substance, a so-called emollient. Substances of this type include, in particular, fatty alcohols, for example cetyl alcohol, lauryl alcohol, myristyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, oleyl alcohol, 2-octyldodecanol and their ethers and esters, the esters of higher fatty acids, such as isopropyl myristate and ethyl palmitate, and oil- and fat-like nonionic surfactants such as ethylene oxide-based nonionic surfactants, especially ethylene oxide or oxethylated fatty alcohols are used.
These substances with a softening effect are contained in the preparations according to the invention preferably in amounts of about 1 to about 10% by weight of the total composition.
The main quantitative components of the antiperspirant according to the invention are alcohol, preferably ethyl alcohol and / or isopropyl alcohol, as the solvent and the aerosol propellant. The latter can also be present as a mixture of different propellants.
Examples of propellants that can be used are: dichlorodifluoromethane, monochlorotrifluoromethane, monochlorodifluoromethane, monochlorodifluoroethane, dichlorotetrafluoroethane, difluoroethane, octafluorocyclobutane, propane, butane, monofluorodichloroethane, trifluoromethloroethane, trichloroethloroethane, trichlorofluoromethane, trichloroethloroethane, trichloroethloroethane, monofluorodichloroethane, monochlorodifluoromethane, monochlorodifluoromethane, trichloroethloroethane, trichloroethloroethane, trichlorodichloroethane, trichlorodichloroethane. As already mentioned, it is of course also possible to use corresponding propellant mixtures; the higher-boiling fluoromethane and ether derivatives mentioned here by way of example can of course only be used in mixtures with low-boiling propellant gases. Particularly suitable propellants are dichlorodifluoromethane alone or in a mixture with dichlorotetrafluoroethane.
The use of anti-gelling agents has also proven useful; as such, for example, an acidic oleyl ether phosphate, such as is sold under the trade name Crodafos N-10 acid, in amounts of about 0.1 to about 5 wt. Cetc, is suitable.
The perfuming is self-evident and does not require any further explanation.
