Abstract
Process comprises (a) reacting a liq. reagent, consisting of alkaryl alcohols and fatty acids, with gaseous SO3, in proportions previously metered into >=2 reactors; (b) the continuously neutralising the acid cpd. obtd.; (c) dehydrating the prod. by e.g. drying and crystallisation by spraying through suitable nozzles in the presence of a stream of air, in which the pressure of the feed to the atomising nozzles of the mixt. produced in (b) may be varied as well as the temp. of the dehydrating gas in order to vary the apparent (i.e. bulk) density of the final prod.; (d) cooling the prod. in granular or hollow, spherical form and screening the prod. so as to give a prod. of constant physical characteristics, and (e) distributing the prod. in suitable storage silos with appropriate control of flow.
