A. Vier Rollenförderstrassen, C1, C2, C3 und C4;
B. Eine Abwurfeinrichtung;
C. Eine Greifeinrichtung;
D. Einen Einschiebzylinder;
E. Einen Speiserost;
F. Ein Luftschleusengehäuse;
1. Abheben eines Paketes oder einer Tonne von den Rollen, entweder für einen Abwurfarbeitsgang oder für einen Rückführarbeitsgang;
2. Bildung einer ebenen Fläche, über die die Pakete oder die Tonnen 14 mittels des Schubzylinders D geschoben werden können, der nachstehend bei der Beschreibung des Abwurfarbeitsganges erläutert wird;

The present invention relates to an apparatus for feeding waste into an incinerator.
Waste incineration has become more and more popular in recent years. The present invention aims to provide a device which allows the control of the amount of waste which is fed into the furnace in each unit of time. Special consideration should be given to highly combustible waste. The intention is to largely automate the operation of the device.
As the device is to be set up in particular for the supply of waste, which is either in the form of packages or as filled bins, only discontinuous operation comes into consideration. Precautions should therefore also be taken to empty the bins and return them for refilling.
US Pat. No. 3,173,389 describes explosion-proof closures and conveyor systems for furnaces used for treating highly combustible materials. This system is useful, but has no means of conveying the combustible material into the furnace other than moving it through the explosion-proof doors, but the handling of bins and similar containers and the retention and return of the bin or selective throwing of parcels and, in an emergency, the bin itself is not sought. Such an arrangement is needed where there are continuous amounts of highly combustible material such as plastic waste and other combustible materials, u. a. in industries where plastic waste is generated in the manufacturing process.
While conveyor systems are known per se, the device according to the invention allows the waste to be grasped and can work automatically as regards the grasping and conveying of reusable bins and the transfer of packages of waste into the furnace, but can also be controlled manually by an operator, who monitors and operates the device. Up to now there have been difficulties in the treatment of highly combustible materials where the material is tipped into the furnace, because it is precisely there that sudden explosions or burns can take place before the operating team could leave.
The device according to the invention is characterized by a) a gripping device, which can be moved between a take-over position and a delivery position, for taking over the waste and transferring it to the furnace, and b) a conveying device for delivering the waste to the gripping device.
The system, which can be electrically controlled and hydraulically operated, accordingly comprises conveying means for the delivery of waste in packages or in bins, to the bin or packet gripping device, which can perform a closing and opening operation and can quickly discard the waste. In particular, the gripping device can be put into operation by an electrical circuit in order to grasp a barrel and tip its contents through a normally closed explosion-proof lock into the incinerator or furnace and then return the barrel to the conveyor, which transports it away for further use. The gripping device is generally located above a part of the conveyor device, can move relative to this and lift the bin or the waste package for emptying or discarding.
The barrel can be moved automatically and away from the operator, so that explosions or kickbacks cannot harm anyone. There may also be provision for destruction of the bin in the event of an emergency, but normally the bin will be returned and reused; all of this is ongoing and can be controlled by an automatic electrical control system operated by a single operator.
Embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawing. Show in it:

The present apparatus and the preferred embodiment is designed for the automatic, semi-continuous emptying of 200 liter steel bins and / or the feeding of approximately 110 liter waste packages into a furnace or furnace, e.g. B. a rotary kiln from International Incinerators, Inc. The device is designed in such a way that it either transfers the waste packages or the bins and their contents into the kiln (dump operation) or dumps the contents of bins and holds the bins back (return operation). However, the operator has the option to intervene in the operational sequence at any time, and in the return mode the operator can choose whether the bin should be thrown into the oven by pressing a button, if there is any reason for this, e.g.
B. like an emergency, fire in the bin or the like.
The device shown basically comprises the following components, some of which. as will be apparent to those skilled in the art, can be omitted or replaced with others, such as a chain hoist, forklift, etc .:
A. Four roller conveyors, C1, C2, C3 and C4;
B. A release device;
C. A gripping device;
D. a sliding cylinder;
E. A grate;
F. An airlock housing;
G. Electrical and hydraulic controls
The four conveyors are all essentially standard pieces of equipment and have either driven or non-driven rollers. These are roller conveyors, hereinafter referred to as conveyors C1, C2, C3 and C4.
The conveyor C1 consists of an approximately 2.4 m long section with free-running rollers 18, so that it is time for the covers to be removed from the bins 14. from a 6 m long section with ratchet clutch rollers and a 1.2 m long section with driven rollers. A ratchet clutch roller is a roller with a one-way clutch. who can ratchet. After the lids (not shown) are removed from the barrels 14. these barrels 14 are pushed onto the section with ratchet clutch rollers.
Sponsor C2 is a short sponsor. which brings the bins 14 one by one from the conveyor arrangement C1 to the conveyor C3 when the feed sequence calls for a new bin 14. When conveyor C2 calls for a bucket 14, the driven portion of conveyor C1 moves the bucket to conveyor C2.
The conveyors C1, C2, C3 and C4 are of the usual type in which steel rollers 18 are used, which are equipped with axles 19 at their ends. The driven rollers are driven by the sprocket 20, which is driven by a chain 22 by a motor (not shown) to drive the shaft 24, which is coupled to one of the driven rollers 18 and its axis, so that the rollers in this driven section are all moved in that they are each provided with a sprocket and a chain, whereby the power is transmitted from one roller to the other. Similarly, conveyor C2 is driven by sprocket 20, chain 22 and shaft 24, and so is conveyor C3.
Conveyor C2 is a short conveyor which transfers one ton at a time from conveyor C1 to conveyor C3 when the feed line calls for a new ton, and all of C2's rollers 18 are driven.
C3 is a fully powered roller conveyor that receives a bin 14 at one end of C2 and takes it to a discharge point for emptying, and when the empty bin 14 is to be returned, C3 reverses and returns the empty bin 14 to conveyor C4.
C4 receives the empty bucket 14 from conveyor C3 and conveys each about 0.9 m down, after which it stops. C4 is a fully powered roller conveyor except for a 2.4 m section at the end of the free rollers 18 for reinserting the lids.
B. The drop device
The discharge device B is a hydraulically operated, pivotably mounted device, consisting of six fingers 30, which are flat plates and are connected to a larger plate 32, on the sides of which triangular steel plates 34 are attached. A large steel block 36 is bolted to each of these. A shaft 38, which is attached to the steel block 36 on one side of the triangular plate 34 of the discharge grate, rotates in a journal bearing 40 which is mounted on an L-shaped support 42 which is connected to the frame of the housing or the floor or otherwise supported as part of the scaffolding, indicated generally by the reference numeral 44, which supports all of the conveyors C1, C2, C3 and C4 as well as the other parts of the system.
The other triangular plate 34 of the discharge grate B and the block 36 are connected to the shaft 50 which rests in the bearing 52. The drive shaft 50 is connected to the coupling 53 of a Rotac device (rotary drive), which is indicated by the reference number 54 and comprises a hydraulic drive 56 which receives fluid through the inlets 58, 60 (Fig. 2) to about the shaft to drive the coupling 53, whereby the entire discharge device B is rotated in the bearings 40, 52 and lifts the fingers 30 out between conveyor rollers 18 to empty the bin 14.
C. Gripping device
To hold the bin 14 for emptying and return after emptying, the gripping device C is mounted as part and with the discharge device B and comprises a housing with the steel plates 60, 62, which form a box on which two grippers 64 made of curved steel plates 66, which are reinforced by the support plates 68 are attached. From Figure 4 it can be seen that each gripper 64 in the box-shaped housing rests on pivot pins 70 which are supported perpendicularly by the plates 60, 62, and a hydraulic cylinder 74 has a piston rod 76 which is connected to a piston pin 78 at one end of each gripper 64 is connected. When the hydraulic cylinder is actuated, the piston rod 76 moves and opens or closes the respective gripper 64 around the barrel 14.
The entire gripping device is connected to the fingers 30 by means of vertical plates 79 and to a horizontal connecting plate 80, which are all attached to one another by welding or the like.
The discharge device B, together with the gripping device C, represents a hydraulically operated pivoting device for the following purposes:
1. Lifting a package or a barrel from the rollers, either for a discharge operation or for a return operation;
2. Formation of a flat surface over which the packages or the bins 14 can be pushed by means of the thrust cylinder D, which is explained below in the description of the discharge operation;
3. Lifting and rotating the barrel 14 and the gripping device during the return operation.
D. Thrust cylinder
The push cylinder, designated 90, is a hydraulic cylinder 92 which is specially designed so that it cannot rotate around its piston rod 94, on which there is a curved steel push plate 96 which is connected to the piston rod 94 by means of diagonal struts 98.
The domed plate 96 conforms to the shape of the bin 14 and pushes a bin over the surface of the fingers 30 and plate 32 of the discharge grate to the grate 120 during the discharge operation (the term used to indicate that a bin or a package is in the Oven is transferred, as opposed to holding a barrel, emptying it and returning it for further use). The hydraulic cylinder 92 is actuated by means of the hydraulic lines 100, 102.
E. Food grate
The food grate denoted by the reference number 120 is another finger-like grate which has flat plate fingers 122 and, together with the plates 124 on the circumference, is a box-shaped structure which is attached to the side of a horizontal axis 125 which runs perpendicular to the discharge grate shaft 50. The food grate 120 operates during the dropping operation and receives a package or standing can which is pushed from the domed plate 96 through the rod 94 and lowers the package or can 14 to an angle of 45 "to the vertical, whereby the package or the barrel 14 enters the furnace, incinerator or furnace bottom down and at a certain speed.
Because the bottom of a bin enters first, the contents cannot suddenly empty and ignite, but the package or bin falls into the oven unlit.
F. Airlock housing
The airlock housing, indicated by reference numeral 150, is a reinforced sheet steel housing 162 which is attached to the wall 152 which separates the discharge device B from the furnace. The airlock housing includes a hydraulically operated drop flap closure 154 which, when closed, forms an air seal around the package or barrel 14. The access opening 160 to the housing 162 is opened by opening the access door 164, which normally closes the opening 160 which releases the grate 120. The feed housing 162 is constructed from sheet steel plates 166 that form a box which has an opening (not shown) in the ceiling to allow an outside vent (not shown) in the event of an explosion, and the vent also serves as an air inlet therethrough a slider and an air inlet guide (not shown).
Open door 164 only when door 154 of the airlock housing is closed.
A grate-lifting cylinder 170 can be attached below the discharge device B in order to provide the initially large force for lifting the discharge device B plus so that less force is required to rotate the shaft 50. The cylinder 170 is mounted on the conveyor frame C3 and the piston rod is connected to the grate B. The cylinder 170 drives the grate B to ensure its horizontal position every time.

Reference is made to the electrical circuit diagram, Fig.
7, and to FIG. 8, in which the hydraulic system is shown schematically and where the designation is in accordance with the explanation above. The operational sequence is as follows:
Conveyors C1 and C2 operate independently of the sequence of operations, and their contribution to the sequence of operations is only to have a package or ton 14 available at the stop (LS-2) at any one time.
The conveyor C1 runs automatically until a package or bin 14 is on the conveyor C2 (controlled by LS 3). With a push button (P.B.-1) the operator can override the work sequence and manually control the bins on the conveyor C1.
The conveyor C2 automatically advances the bucket 14 which the conveyor 61 makes available at the stop.
When conveyor C3 is started in the forward direction (C-3F), LS-2 of conveyor C2 is bypassed and causes the bin at the stop to advance to conveyor C3. At the same time, another blocked contact stops conveyor C1. so that only one barrel 14 will go into the airlock housing 162 at a time. If the spool C-3F is not energized, conveyors 1 and 2 start their automatic cycle and convey another package or bin to the pay station.
The drop cycle
1. The operator brings the selector switch (S-SW) on the C.C.P. (not shown) in the release position.
2. The operator turns on the timer (T-1) and times the waste feed timing.
3. The operator turns on the switch SW-2.
4. The operator presses the start button (PB-2).
From this point on, the process is automatic and continues to this extent. until either the timer is reset or turned off. In either case, the cycle is not affected until a barrel 14 on the device completes its cycle. If the feed is changed, the next barrel 14 is moved at the new speed; if the timer is switched off. there is no new cycle.
Some switching elements used in the feedback cycle could, without some special interlocking in the selector switch, have a disruptive influence on the ejection cycle. A control valve (S-4) is switched on in the hydraulic circuit of the rotary drive (Rotac) S-5 on the discharge grate shaft. in order to connect output A to output B, so that the drive is free and an additional hydraulic jack 170 can bring the grate 30 exactly into the correct position and the barrel 14 can slide over it.
A set of S-SW contacts is used during the ejection cycle to activate this control valve during the ejection cycle.
A different set of S-SW contacts is used for each of the gripper control valves (S-9A and S-9B) to ensure that they do not close during this operation.
Pressing the start button (PB-2) starts C3, provided that door 154 (LS-2) is open (door 154 is left open at the end of each cycle) and that switch SW-2 is on. A blockage in C-3F also releases the changeover relay (CB-1), so that all break contacts CR-1 are now closed.
A buoy 14 is now transferred from the stopping point to C3 and moved to the dropping point, where it comes into contact with LS-4; LS-4 stops C3, closes door 154 (Sol.
S-1B) and lifts the discharge grate lifter (Sol. S-2A) into the horizontal position. As soon as CR-1 releases the grate (Sol. S-3A), the lifting begins.
As soon as the door 154 closes, it touches a limit switch (LS-5) and activates the control valve (Sol. S-7A) to open the door 164. As soon as the door 164 is completely open (LS-8), the grate lifter 170 is up (LS-6) and the grate 120 is up (LS-7), the push cylinder 90 pushes the bin over the discharge grate onto the grate.
When the thrust cylinder 90 is in its outer end position, it closes a limit switch LS-9, which in turn activates the changeover relay (CR-1).
CR-1 de-energizes all forward positions of all control valves used in the circuit and energizes all circuits which are used to switch the method.
At the same time it causes the thrust cylinder to retract (Sol. Sb), that the grate 120 (Sol. 8-3B) lowers the barrel that is now on it into the furnace and that the grate lifter 170 goes back down to move another barrel (Sol. S-2B).
When the curved plate 96 is outside the door 164, it actuates a limit switch (LS-10) and causes the door 164 to close (Sol. S-7B).
When the door 164 is fully closed, it actuates a limit switch (LS-14) and causes the door 154 (Sol. SIA) to open.
As soon as the door 154 is fully open (LS-I), the slide fully retracted (LS-11) and the grate lifter 170 is down (LS-13) and the furnace is operating normally and at normal temperature, the timer gives impulses for a new cycle .
After a time interruption set in advance by the operator, a set of contacts T-1, connected in parallel with the start button and located on C3, starts the cycle again. The cycle repeats until the timer T-1 is turned off.
Return cycle
1. The operator moves the selector switch (S-SW) on the C.C.P control panel to the return position.
2. The operator switches on the timer (T-1) and sets the cycle frequency of the overall sequence.
3. The operator turns the key switch of timer T-2 to either the automatic or semi-automatic position.
4. The operator turns on the switch SW-2.
5. The operator presses the start button.
This cycle offers the operator several choices that he can use at his discretion.
Although the function of this cycle is to return the 200 liter steel bins 14, if the operator sees that the bin is no longer usable, he can release that bin 14 in the feeder housing 162 and discard it into the oven. Blockings (DS-4) are provided in the drum switch (DS) of the discharge grate shaft so that it can only release the bin inside the feed housing.
By pressing the stop button (PB-3), the operator is given another option to stop the discharge grate shaft (Sol. S-6A) so that he can inspect the bucket 14. Blockings (DS-2) are also activated here, so that it can only stop the discharge grate when the bin is inside the feed housing.
Interlocks (DS-4) are also provided which automatically stop the discharge device B during the release of a barrel 14.
In contrast to the ejection cycle, the return cycle can be operated automatically or semi-automatically (key switch T-2). If the switch is in the semi-automatic position, the operator must press the return button (PB-5) each time bin 14 is emptied to return the bin to C3.
Similar to the ejection cycle, pressing the start button (PB-2) causes C3 to be started when door 154 (LS-2) is open and switch SW-2 is closed.
The blockages in C-3F again de-energize the changeover relay (CR-2) so that all control valves operate the forward functions.
A barrel is now transferred from the stop (LS-2 to C2) to C3 and moved to the dropping position, where it touches LS-4. LS-4 stops C3, closes door 154 (Sol.
S-1B) and lifts the grate lifter 170 (Sol. S-2A) so that the bin is released from the rollers. However, since the selector switch is in the return position, the grate 120 does not rise.
As soon as the discharge device B is up and the bucket 14 has lifted off the rollers, it actuates a limit switch (LS-6), which in turn causes the right and left grippers (Sol.S-9B) and (S-IOB) grab bin 14.
As the gripping process progresses, the door 154 closes, and as soon as the door 154 is completely closed (LS-5), the door 164 opens (Sol. S-7A).
Again, special selector contacts are used to enable the discharge grate B to float while the additional grate lifting cylinder 170 is used. This circuit is interrupted by a limit switch (LS-6) when the lifter has brought grate B into the correct position.
When the door 164 is fully open (LS-8), the grippers 64 are closed (LS-17, LS-18) and the grate 120 is locked in the sagging position (LS-14), the control valve 54 (Sol. S -5A) the whole device B into a forward arc. As soon as the upper end of the bucket 14 is within the food building 162 (DS-2), the operator can make his choice whether the discharge grate B (PB-3) should be stopped.
Also in the case, as soon as the grippers 64 are inside the feed housing 162 (DS-3), the operator can make his choice whether the grippers should release the bucket 14 (PB-4). As mentioned earlier, opening the grapple and releasing the bin by blocking PB-4 causes the device to stop and an additional precaution in the form of
Limit switches (LS-15 and LS-16), which indicate that the grippers are not closed, the movement of the discharge device is also stopped.
If the operator chooses to release the can 14, then the can 14 is guided into the furnace on a chute. The grippers 64 then close and the device moves forward to the end of its stroke.
A set of contacts in the gripper open button (PB-4) energizes a memory relay (CR-2), which starts the entire cycle again as soon as the system is back in its starting position.
If the operator does not release or stop the barrel 14, then the drive 54 brings the barrel into an inverted position so that it can be emptied. This position closes the contacts on the drum switch (DS-4).
If at this time the key switch is in the automatic position, the timer (T-2) energizes after one
Dwell time of 15 seconds for the changeover relay (CR-1).
However, if the key switch is in the semi-automatic position, the operator must reverse
Press button (PB-5), which energizes the changeover relay.
When the changeover relay is energized, power to all forward positions of the control valves is cut.
Then the drive 54 switches over and either brings the dropping device with the barrel or the empty dropping device back into the rest position.
As soon as the grate is free from door 164 (DS-5), the door closes (Sol. S-7b).
As soon as the grate returns to the horizontal position (DS-1).
comes, the grippers 64 (Sol. S-9A and
S-10A).
As soon as the grippers 64 are completely open (LS-15 and LS-16) and the discharge grate B is in the correct position (DS-1), the drive 54 (Sol. S-4) takes up the release again, so that the Grate lifter 170 (Sol. S-2B) can let empty bucket 14 (if an empty bucket is returned) run down the rollers from C3.
During the switchover and release operation, the door 164 closes. As soon as it is closed (LS-12), the door 154 begins to open.
If bucket 14 has been released and memory relay (CR-2) energized, then a set of closes
CR-2 contacts the circuit to the timer as soon as the door opens
154 open (LS-1), the grate lifter 170 below (LS-13) and the right gripper open (LS-16).
As the empty bin 14 approaches C4, it actuates a limit switch (LS-21) which starts C4. It then goes over the transfer point to conveyor C4, where it activates two limit switches (LS-19 and LS-20).
The second limit switch (LS-20) stops C4.
The first limit switch (LS-19) energizes the timer (T-1) if the system is operating normally with a non-excessive fire temperature or the timer is not switched off.
No matter whether the empty bin or the storage relay energizes the timer, a set of T-1 contacts connected in parallel with the start button of C3 will start the cycle again after a period of time set in advance by the operator. The cycle will repeat until the timer (T-1) is turned off.
