Abstract

Medicinally active, particularly analgesic, 2,2-dihydrocarbyl-2,3-dihydro-benzo-1, 3-oxazone-4 cpds. are prepared in high purity and yield by reacting salicylamide with ketones, pref. acetone using excess ketone as solvent, in the presence of carboxylic acid anhydrides (advantageously acetic anhydride) and proton donors and/or Lewis acids at temps up to 70 degrees C, pref. 40-60 degrees C. Examples describe preparation of 2,2-dimethyl-2,3 dihydro-benzo-1,3-oxazone-4 from acetone and salicylamide.
