The present invention relates to a sealing device for a shaft bushing on a housing part delimiting a space with a groove arranged in a bore of the housing part, in which an O-ring and a sliding ring made of plastic are inserted, the latter sealingly on the shaft and a pressure surface on the outside forms for the O-ring.
Sealing devices for shaft bushings are known in various designs. In a known embodiment, the shaft lies in a bore with a groove in which an O-ring, for example an O-ring, and between the shaft and O-ring, a cylindrical sliding ring mostly made of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is arranged. The dimensioning of the groove is selected so that the sliding ring has approximately the same width as the groove and the O-ring is elastically deformed when a pressure acting on the outer surface of the sliding ring is exerted.
In a further known sealing device, the width of the sliding ring is approximately one third smaller than the width of the groove. If there is overpressure in the space to be sealed, the sliding ring is pressed onto the side of the groove facing away from the pressure space. This has the consequence that the O-ring does not press in the middle, but rather at the edge against the pressure side on the sliding ring, whereby the sealing effect between the shaft and the sliding ring is greatly improved. The disadvantage is that there must always be an overpressure on one side, otherwise the sliding ring will shift and thus no longer be able to fulfill its function equally well. For this reason, this sealing device is only used in special cases, for example in vehicle shock absorbers, in which there is overpressure in the space to be sealed because of the vehicle weight that is always acting.
The object of the present invention is to create a sealing device in which the disadvantages of the known sealing devices do not occur and which nevertheless has an improved sealing effect like the second-mentioned sealing device.
This object is achieved according to the invention by a sealing device of the type described at the outset, in which the pressure surface of the sliding ring forms a truncated circular cone and the sliding ring is provided with lateral play in the groove.
This ensures that the sliding ring rests on the side of the groove facing away from the space to be sealed and remains in this position even in the absence of excess pressure, so that the pressure of the O-ring is exerted more and more on the edge of the sliding ring, which results in an improved sealing effect .
The smaller diameter of the pressure surface of the sliding ring is expediently on the side of the space to be sealed.
As a result, any pressure in the space to be sealed acts in such a way that the pressure effect of the O-ring on the outer surface of the sliding ring is increased.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the width of the sliding ring can be approximately two thirds of the width of the groove. As a result, the pressure effect of the O-ring takes place at a point with a small edge thickness, whereby a particularly good sealing effect is achieved.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings and described below. It shows:
1 shows a section through a shaft leadthrough through a wall with a sealing device, and
FIG. 2 shows a section through a shaft lead-through through a wall with a multiple seal, consisting of sealing devices according to FIG. 1.
In Fig. 1, for example, a reciprocating shaft 1 is shown which penetrates a wall 2 in a bore 3.
In the wall of the bore 3 there is a groove 4 in which an O-ring 5 and a sliding ring 6 are located.
The sliding ring 6 rests with its inner surface on the shaft 1, while the outer surface forms a truncated circular cone 7, on which surface the O-ring 5 presses. The space provided for the O-ring 5 is dimensioned so that it is deformed and thereby exerts pressure on the sliding ring 6. The sliding ring 6 lies with lateral play 8 in the groove 4, the O-ring sealing ring exerting a force acting in the axial direction due to the conical pressure surface 7, by means of which the sliding ring 6 is pressed against a groove wall and, what is essential, is kept in this position. even if no overpressure is effective in the space 10 to be sealed.
The sliding ring 6, which is narrower by the clearance 8 compared to the width of the groove 4, has a significantly improved sealing effect due to the fact that the O-ring 5 presses on the sliding ring 6 in the vicinity of the one edge 11, which produces a practically drip-tight seal. The game 8 can be approximately one third of the width of the groove 4.
The sliding ring 6 is usually made of PTFE, which material has very low friction values compared to steel.
In Fig. 2, a multiple seal is shown, which has several O-rings 5 with sliding rings 6, which are spaced by guide rings 12, which for example also consist of PTFE. The sealing devices 5, 6, a total of three, are located in an annular space 13 formed by the wall 2 and the shaft 1, which is closed by covers 14 which are arranged on both sides and fastened to the wall 2 in a manner not shown.
