It is often desired to insulate, from a sound point of view, the flow pipes, in particular the water pipes, in a building. Currently, the drain pipes are no longer made of cast iron, but are made of hard plastic which has definite advantages in terms of manufacturing cost and resistance to corrosion, but which on the other hand strongly transmit noise. flow of liquid passing through them.
The subject of the invention is insulation for the soundproofing of flow pipes, comprising a mantle of acoustically insulating material enveloping the pipe, characterized in that it consists of a mattress itself consisting of minus a layer of felted fiberglass wool, a layer of plastic foam and a layer of tensile-resistant material, the latter layer being intended to constitute the outer envelope of the insulation when the latter is in place on the pipe.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an end view of a drain pipe coated with insulation according to said embodiment.
Fig. 2 is also an end view of part of the insulation according to FIG. 1.
With reference to FIG. 1, a pipe 1, for example of hard PVC, is covered with a soundproofing mat which consists of a layer 2 of felted-type glass fiber wool, a layer 3 of plastic foam and 'a layer 4 formed by a sheet of roofing felt.
The sheet of bitumen cardboard constitutes an outer envelope of the soundproofing mattress and has sufficient tensile strength to ensure the maintenance of layers 2 and 3.
Fig. 2 shows the whole of the layer 2 of glass fiber felt and of the layer 3 of foam; these two layers are glued to each other at spaced points. This soundproofing mattress is in the shape of a rectangle, the longitudinal direction of which is perpendicular to the plane of the drawing with reference to FIG. 2.
The two long sides of the rectangle are bevelled, as indicated by 5 and 6, so that after rolling the mattress around the pipe or pipe 1, the contact surface of these two sides constitutes a plane designated by 7 to fig. 1, this plane passing outside the longitudinal axis of the pipe.
It is visible that the installation of the insulation described is easy and fast, because it is enough to apply the rectangular mattress against the pipe and to roll it around this pipe to bring the two long sides of the rectangle in contact with each other. the other according to the plane 7. These two sides can advantageously be glued to one another. Next, the roofing felt sheet is rolled over the foam layer 3, and its two overlapping edges 8 and 9 are joined by a self-adhesive strip 10.
In the case of the described insulation, the layer 2 of glass fiber wool having a thickness of 40 mm, and that of foam 3 having a thickness of 15 mm, a reduction in the flow noise transmitted to the air was obtained. exterior, around 12 decibels.
Of course, various modifications can be made to the insulation described, and in particular the outer layer 4 of bitumen cardboard could be replaced by any material having sufficient tensile strength to make it possible to maintain the two internal layers. One could, of course, also increase the number of layers. Finally, the insulation could be made in the form of a long strip intended to be wound helically around the pipe. However, the construction in the form of a rectangular plate, the great length of which is of the order of a meter, or even more, is very advantageous and easy to install.
