Device, in particular inking unit, for applying a liquid to a rotating roller
The invention relates to a device, in particular an inking unit, for applying a liquid to the jacket of a rotating roller.
Inking units are known in which the lower part of the horizontal roller is immersed in a dye bath. Since an upper part of the roller must be accessible in order to use the paint carried along by its jacket, the surface of the paint bath is inevitably in contact with the air, so that the paint can oxidize and dry out. This is particularly disadvantageous because the roller mainly picks up paint from the surface of the bath.
The invention is based on the object of avoiding these disadvantages.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that a slot nozzle connected to a container for the liquid is arranged with its slot parallel to the roller axis and cut off at its mouth so that the lip surfaces adjoining the outlet opening on both sides run at least approximately tangentially or coaxially to the roller, and that the distance between these lip surfaces and the roll shell is smaller than the outlet slot width of the nozzle.
In the following, an inking unit is described in more detail as an embodiment of the invention with reference to the accompanying drawing. The only partially schematic figure shows a cross section through an inking unit.
The inking unit shown has a roller 1 which rotates in the direction of arrow 2 and is provided with a jacket 3. A slot nozzle 4 is arranged with its slot parallel to the roll axis 5 and with its exit direction 6 tangential to the roll shell 3. The mouth of the nozzle 4 is cut off at an angle in such a way that the lip surfaces 8 and 9 adjoining the outlet opening 7 on both sides are curved coaxially to the roll shell. The distance between these lip surfaces 8 and 9 from the roll shell 3 is smaller than the outlet slot width of the nozzle 4. If the roll diameter is sufficiently large compared to the width of the lip surfaces 8 and 9, these can also be flat instead of arched and run tangentially to the roll shell. The slot width of the nozzle 4 decreases continuously from the nozzle inlet 10 to the outlet opening 7.
As can be seen from the drawing, the outlet direction 6 of the nozzle and the tangential component of the circular movement 2 of the roller 1 are in the same direction at the point on the jacket 3 at which the nozzle is directed. The front lip surface 9 in the direction of rotation 2 of the roller is at a greater distance from the roller shell 3 than the rear lip surface 8 in the direction of rotation.
In order to influence the amount of paint applied per unit area of the roller jacket independently of the hydrostatic pressure of the paint in the nozzle and the peripheral speed of the roller, the distance between the lip surfaces 8, 9 and the roller jacket 3 can be changed by opening the nozzle (not shown) Means) is moved in one of the directions of the double arrow 11.
With the same result, the nozzle could also be pivoted about an axis parallel to the roller axis.
The nozzle inlet 10 is connected to a paint container 13 by a line 12. The line 12 starts from the lower part of the paint container 13. If this container is always sufficiently filled, no paint, which was in contact with the air on the surface of the liquid in container 13, enters the nozzle 4. The pressure required for the paint to flow evenly into the nozzle can be through a suitable height difference between the container 13 and the nozzle 4 can be ensured. If this difference in height is small in relation to the height of the container, this pressure will remain practically constant as the paint in the container is gradually consumed. If desired, a compressed gas line 14, z. B. a compressed air line, open into the upper part of the container.
The surface of the paint in the container can, if desired, be covered by a protective layer, e.g. B. a specific, lighter liquid that is inert to the color and does not mix with it can be protected from contact with the air.
The difference in height between the level area of the paint in the container 13 and the nozzle 4 is between a lower limit at which reliable reflowing of the paint is still ensured when the roller 1 is rotating, and an upper limit at which the paint does not appear when the roller 1 is stationary exits from the nozzle 4, but is prevented by capillary action from exiting between the nozzle lips 8, 9 and the jacket, to choose. When the roller 1 rotates, the paint adhering to the roller jacket 3 by adhesion is carried along by the latter and paint is thereby drawn out of the gap between the nozzle lip 9 and the roller jacket 3, with paint flowing in from the container 13 through the line 12.
If the flow of paint breaks off in the gap between the nozzle and the roller shell or in the nozzle, a vacuum is created there, as a result of which paint is sucked in from the container 13 through the line 12.
