Process for dyeing wool The German Auslegeschrift 1287 554 discloses a process for dyeing and printing nitrogen-containing materials with a fibrous structure. The aqueous dye baths used contain water-soluble or water-dispersible dyes, surface-active auxiliaries and 4 to 30% acid, based on the dye baths. The fiber material is impregnated, squeezed off and then stored in a closed system at room temperature. The use of urea or urea derivatives or special surface-active auxiliaries in the dyebaths is not mentioned.
The use of urea or urea derivatives results in level dyeings with a significantly improved dye yield on the fiber material.
Subject of the black Main patent no. 400 995 is a process for dyeing and printing natural, nitrogen-containing textile materials. The process is characterized in that the dye is treated well before, during or after the application of the dye at 15 to 40 C with aqueous preparations containing at least 15% based on the preparation, a compound of the formula
EMI0001.0006
contain, wherein D is O, S or NH, Y is a primary, secondary or tertiary amino group, an O o or an S o and Z, which can be linked to Y to form cyclic compounds, is a primary, secondary or tertiary Amino group, an alkyl, alkoxy or aryl group, and the goods treated in this way are stored in the moist state for 1 to 48 hours at 15 to 40 C.
The staining can be carried out in the presence of a coacervating agent. It has now been found that a defined group of water-soluble reactive dyes in combination with a narrow group of anionic, surface-active auxiliaries can be used with particularly good results for dyeing wool.
The present invention therefore relates to a process for dyeing wool, characterized in that the material to be dyed with aqueous dyeing preparations which a) a water-soluble reactive dye with at least one acylamino derived from an α, ß-unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid - or by splitting off acid into such a convertible radical, b) a compound of the formula
EMI0001.0012
in which D is an oxygen or sulfur atom, and c) a sulfuric or phosphoric acid ester or their alkali metal or ammonium salts of plant products of 2 to 10 moles of ethylene oxide with alkylphenols whose alkyl substituents have 7 to 12 carbon atoms,
Impregnated at temperatures of 15 to 40 C and then stored for 5 to 60 hours at temperatures of 15 to 40 C in the absence of air.
Suitable reactive dyes for the present process are suitably anionic water-soluble dyes. Suitable water-solubilizing groups are the carboxylic acid and sulfonic acid groups and the amide and ester groups derived therefrom. Those dyes are preferred which have at least one sulfonic acid group. The reactive dyes can belong to a wide variety of dye classes, but acidic anthraquinone and anionic azo dyes may be mentioned in particular. The latter can be metal-free or metal-containing mono-, bis- and polyazo dyes, such as.
B.1: 2-chromo the cobalt complex compounds that contain two identical or different molecules azo dye complex bound to the metal atom, provided that the dye molecules contain reactive substituents that are able to form a covalent bond with the fiber material. According to the invention, the reactive groupings of the dyes are acyl radicals of α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acids, especially those with 3 carbon atoms which have a double bond, such as the radical of the formula (1) CH2 = CH-CO- derived from acrylic acid and the acrylic radicals, which has a negative substituent in the α or β position, e.g. B. a halogen atom.
The reactive acrylic groups are bonded to an aromatic ring of the dye molecule via a nitrogen atom, and the preferred dyes suitable for the present process contain at least one group of the formula
EMI0002.0007
where n is an integer, preferably 1, one X is hydrogen and the other X is a halogen atom, preferably a chlorine or bromine atom or a hydrogen atom.
In addition, halogenated propionyl radicals corresponding to the formulas are suitable as reactive groups
EMI0002.0011
correspond and where X is each a chlorine or bromine atom. These dye substituents who the z. B. pen by the action of alkali in unsaturated groups, as they are present in formula (2), converted. The reaction of the propionyl radicals with the substrate in the dyebath, however, is not restricted to a mechanism via an unsaturated intermediate stage.
Such dyes are z. B. in French patents 1 200 241, 1498 813 and 1546 011 as well as in Swiss patents 365 814 and 473 201.
According to the invention, the aqueous dye preparations contain a compound of the formula
EMI0002.0018
wherein D is an oxygen or a sulfur atom. The amounts in which these compounds are used can vary within wide limits; they are advantageously 10 to 50%, based on the total aqueous preparation. Preferably, however, amounts of 25 to 40% are used; a mixture of urea and thiourea can also be used.
To improve the wetting effect of the dyebath and the levelness of the dyeings, it is also necessary to add surface-active anionic compounds as leveling agents to the dyebath.
Suitable substances are reaction products of 2 to 10 moles of ethylene oxide with alkyl phenols, the branched or unbranched alkyl substituents of which contain 7 to 12 carbon atoms, in the form of their sulfuric and phosphoric acid esters, and their alkali metal or ammonium salts. The sodium and potassium salts are used as alkali metal salts.
Examples of advantageous leveling agents are: The ammonium salt of the acid sulfuric acid ester of the adduct of 2 mol of ethylene oxide with 1 mol of p-tert. Nonylphenol, the ammonium salt of the acid sulfuric acid ester of the adduct of 5.4 mol of ethylene oxide with 1 mol of nonylphenol; the sodium salt of the acid phosphoric acid ester of the plant product of 4 moles of ethylene oxide and 1 mole of octylphenol; the ammonium salt of the acid sulfuric acid ester of the adduct of 9 moles of ethylene oxide with 1 mole of nonylphenol.
The amount of leveling agent used in the dye bath is expediently 10 to 50 g / kg of dye liquor. In addition to the compounds required according to the invention, the aqueous dyeing preparations can also contain the additives customary in dyeing, such as. B. thickeners, antifoams, acids, salts or organic solvents.
When adding thickeners, make sure that they are compatible with the respective pH value of the liquor. The pH of the dyeing preparations is z. B. 4 to 8, preferably 5 to 7, and can with lower organic acids, such as. B. formic acid and acetic acid are adjusted.
According to the present process, wool can be used in a wide variety of processing states, such as B. be dyed as loose wool, sliver, piece goods, woven and knitted fabrics. The wool can be untreated or treated, e.g. B. chlorinated, oxidized, reduced or made shrink-proof and felt-proof.
The dyeing process is carried out according to the impregnation process, expediently on a padder. The dyeing preparations should have a tempera ture of 15 to 40 C, preferably 25 to 35 C.
Subsequent to the treatment with the dyeing preparations, the dyed goods are stored, care having to be taken that the liquor on the fiber does not dry out. This is preferably achieved by wrapping the goods in plastic film or storing them in a closed vessel or room.
The temperature at which the storage takes place is between 15 and 40 C, preferably between 25 and 35 C. The storage time will vary between 5 and 60 hours. As a rule, however, a storage time of 10 to 48 hours leads to favorable results.
To finish, the dyeings are then advantageously placed in an aqueous bath, which is adjusted to a pH of 7.5 to 9 by adding aqueous ammonia or dilute solutions of sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate or hexamethylene tetramine, at temperatures of 60 to 90 C treated and then rinsed hot and cold.
The dyeings obtained are of good levelness and have good light and wet fastness properties.
The process according to the invention avoids the pull-out process which is otherwise customary for wool dyeing and which usually works at the boiling point of the liquor and can easily lead to fiber damage. The dyeing process is thus carried out under conditions that are gentle on the substrate and considerably more economical than known wool dyeing processes, without, however, accepting any loss of authenticity in the dyeings obtained.
In the following examples, the parts are parts by weight and the percentages are percentages by weight; the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 A woolen fabric is impregnated on the padder with the cold preparation prepared as follows:

The pH of the liquor is 5.5. The impregnated fabric is squeezed off to an increase in weight of 100%, immediately rolled up and stored in this state for 36 hours in a closed container or wrapped in a plastic film at 30 ° C.
After storage, the unfixed portion of the dye is removed by treating in a bath adjusted to pH 8.5 with dilute ammonia and then rinsing thoroughly with hot and cold water.
A level yellow coloration with good fastness properties is obtained.

The fabric is squeezed off to a weight increase of 100%, rolled up immediately and stored airtight in a plastic film at 25 C for 48 hours. After storage, the fabric is first washed with cold water and then treated in a bath provided with diluted ammonia to a pH of 8.5, then rinsed and acidified.
A level blue coloration is obtained.
Equally good results are obtained if the fabric is padded at 15 C, 40 C or 60 C and finished as described.
Example 4 A padding liquor is prepared which, according to the dye mixture according to Example 2, has the following composition: 300 parts of urea 320 parts of a 2.5% aqueous solution of a starch ether thickener 40 parts of a 50% solution of the Ammonium salt of the acid sulfuric acid ester of the reaction product of nonylphenol and 4 moles of ethylene oxide (solvent: isopropanol, water 1: 2), 2 parts of acetic acid (80%) supplemented with water to 1000 parts.
The pH of the liquor is 5.0. This liquor, which has a temperature of 25 ° C., is padded to 100% weight gain and then stored for 48 hours at room temperature and aftertreated as described in Example 3. A true brown dyeing of good levelness is obtained.
Good results are also achieved with 250 or 400 parts of urea in the padding liquor.
Example 5 Woolen fabric is impregnated on the padder with a dye-based preparation of the following composition:
EMI0004.0018
The pH of the liquor is 5.2. Padding is carried out at 25 C up to a weight increase of 100%. The tissue is then stored and treated as described in Example 3.
A level red coloration is obtained.
If the pH of the padding liquor is increased to values of 7 or 8, dyeings of the same color yield and levelness are obtained.
Example 6 Shrink-proof woolen fabric (padded from aqueous emulsion with a glycerol-propylene oxide addition product esterified with thioglycolic acid and having an average molecular weight of 4000) is treated with the following dyeing preparation on the padder: Dye mixture according to Example 2 300 parts urea 320 parts a 2.5% aqueous solution of a starch ether thickening 50 parts of a 40% solution of the ammonium salt of the acid sulfuric acid ester of the reaction product of nonylphenol and 2 moles of ethylene oxide (solvent: isopropanol, water 1: 4) 2 parts of acetic acid (80%) supplemented with Water to 1000 parts.
The pH of the liquor is 5.5. The fabric is squeezed off at a liquor temperature of 25 ° C. to a weight increase of 100%, rolled up immediately and stored airtight in a plastic film at 30 ° C. for 48 hours. The fabric is then washed, if necessary in an alkaline bath (pH 8.5), and rinsed and dried.
A level brown dyeing is obtained which shows practically no difference compared to untreated material (no previous felt-proof finish).
