Pesticides
The present invention relates to a pest control agent, in particular an agent for controlling soil insects and termites, which as an active component is a compound of the formula
EMI1.1
contains, where R1 and R2 independently of one another are an ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, sec-butyl, isobutyl or tert-butyl group.
Soil insects are considered to be all those representatives whose predominant residence is the soil in any developmental or final stage. Primarily harmful larvae of noctuids or tripolids, wireworms (Elateridae larvae) or grubs (larvae of Melolontha species) are to be understood. The suborder Gryllotalpa, e.g. the mole cricket and millipedes (Juliden) fall under this term. In a broader sense, soil nematodes such as Panagrellus, Ditylenchus, Heterodera, Meloidogyne and others are also effectively combated.
The destruction of soil insects poses a particular problem because the insecticidal active ingredient should act on the pest not only at the immediate application site, but also in a wider area. Above all, however, active ingredients in the soil quickly lose their effectiveness due to decomposition. Almost all phosphoric acid esters or phosphonic acid esters are completely or mostly decomposed in alkaline soils over the course of several days.
It was therefore surprising to see the compounds of the formula I distinguished by their great resistance in the soil. So, e.g. the connection

Stable for 2 months in an alkaline long-term test at pH 12. In the form of an aqueous emulsion, this active ingredient can be sprayed onto a fresh lime deposit in a distribution of 1 g AS / m2 and has hardly any reduced effect against houseflies even after 16 weeks.
A number of other compounds of the formula I have proven to be similarly stable.
The application technique as such, especially the formulation of the active ingredients for pesticides, is in principle part of the general knowledge of this technical branch. Details are set out in U.S. Patent No. 3,329,702; or Brit. Patent No. 1047644; or Swiss Patent No. 424 359. Typical application examples can be found below. In general, however, granules have proven particularly useful for uniform release of active ingredient in the soil. They are most likely to ensure that the active ingredient has a long-lasting influence on the environment without causing plant damage through overdosing in places or killing beneficial bacteria that are indirectly responsible or necessary for consistently good plant growth.
Phosphonates of the formula I can be prepared in a known manner, for example in such a way that a phosphonic acid halide of the formula

Use chlorobenzene etc.
The esters available are usually oily, sometimes also crystalline, low-melting substances.
These usually dissolve well in ethanol and acetone.
The 2,5-dichloro-4iodophenol used as the starting substance can be prepared as follows, where parts are parts by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius:
81.5 parts of 2,5-dichlorophenol are neutralized in 1000 parts of water with 20.5 parts of sodium hydroxide. A solution of 127 parts of iodine in 127 parts of potassium iodide and 500 parts of water at 20-25 is added dropwise to this solution in 1 hour. The mixture is stirred for a further 1 hour
Room temperature and then gives a solution of
100 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid in 2000 parts of ice, 60 parts of sodium bisulfite are added, the precipitated 2,5-dichloro-4-iodophenol is filtered off with suction and recrystallized from cyclohexane: 113 parts, melting point 74.
example 1
28.9 parts of 2,5-dichloro-iodophenol, 11.6 parts of anhydrous soda and 0.5 part of copper powder are heated to 60 in 100 parts by volume of methyl ethyl ketone. 15.9 parts of ethane-O-ethylthiochlorophosphonate are added dropwise with stirring and the mixture is kept at 50-60 for a further 2 hours. After cooling, the salts are filtered off with suction, the solvent is removed in vacuo at 50 and the residue is taken up in 100 parts by volume of methylene chloride. The solution is washed twice with 25 parts by volume of sodium hydroxide solution and then with water and the solvent is distilled off in vacuo.
The residue obtained is 36 parts of the end product:

Example 2
5 parts by weight of one of the active ingredients mentioned are mixed with 95 parts by weight of calcium carbonate and ground. The product is used as a spreading agent against soil insects and / or nematodes as well as against stored food pests.
Example 3
5 parts by weight of an active ingredient as indicated above or of another active ingredient of the general formula I are mixed with 95 parts of a powdery carrier material, e.g. B. sand or carbonate of lime, mixed and moistened with 1-5 parts by weight of water or isopropanol. The mixture is then granulated. Before granulating, the above or a more active ingredient mixture, e.g. from 10 parts of active ingredient and 90 parts of calcium carbonate, a multiple amount, e.g. 100-900 parts of an optionally water-soluble artificial fertilizer, such as. B.
Ammonium sulfate can be added. These granules are used to control soil insects and / or nematodes.
Example 4
20 parts of an active ingredient and 80 parts of talc are ground to the greatest fineness in a ball mill. The mixture obtained serves as a dust against soil insects.
Example 5
By mixing 50 parts of an active ingredient mentioned above or another active ingredient of the formula I, 45 parts of xylene, 2.5 parts of an ethylene oxide condensation product of an alkylphenol and 2.5 parts of a mixture of the sodium salts of dodecyloxyethylsulfuric acid, a water-emulsifiable nematocidal solution is obtained , can also be used against soil insects at any stage of development.
Example 6
Trial against grubs PVC boxes (17 x 10 x 10 x 5 cm) are filled with moist humus soil to just below the edge. 4 grubs (larvae of Melolontha melolontha) are placed in the L-2 stage around a cut potato placed in the middle. Care is taken to ensure that the larvae are evenly distributed. An active substance emulsion produced according to Example 6 is sprayed onto the surface of the humus soil using a chromatography atomizer, which, converted, corresponds to a concentration of 6 KgAS / ha or 5 KgAS / ha. The PVC container is covered with a second perforated hood. The soil must be evenly moistened during the investigation period.
The rating takes place after 7, 14, 21 and 28 days and refers to 20 grubs per attempt (= 100%).
