Process for the production of stable preparations of reaction products from epoxies and amines
The subject of the main patent 509 369 is a process for the production of stable preparations of reaction products from epoxies and amines, characterized in that (1) a polyglycidyl ether of a polyphenol which is liquid at room temperature with (2) a cycloaliphatic or cycloaliphatic-aliphatic diprimary diamine in which at least one of the primary amino groups is bonded to a cycloaliphatic ring carbon atom, in a ratio of 1 epoxy group equivalent to 3 to 5.5 amino group equivalents in the absence of solvents at temperatures from 100 to 1200C,
then the adduct obtained at temperatures below 100 C in the presence of an organic solvent with (3) an epoxy compound in a ratio of 1 epoxy group equivalent to 3 to 5 Am in o group equivalents and by adding acid, at the latest after completion of the reaction, ensures that a The sample of the reaction mixture has a pH of 2 to 7 after dilution with water.
It has been found that valuable new stable preparations of reaction products of epoxies and amines are obtained if (1) a polyglycidyl ether of a polyphenol which is liquid at room temperature with (2) an acyclic aliphatic diprimary diamine, in a ratio of 1 epoxy groups equivalent to 3 to 5.5 amino group equivalents in the absence of solvents at temperatures of 100 to 1200C, then the adduct obtained at temperatures below 1000C in the presence of an organic solvent with (3) an epoxy compound in a ratio of 1 epoxy group equivalent to 3 to 5 amino group equivalents and by adding acid, at the latest after the end of the reaction, ensures
that a sample of the reaction mixture has a pH of 7 to 8 after dilution with water.
The polyglycidyl ethers used as component (1) are the same products as indicated in the main patent.
The acyclic aliphatic diprimary diamines (2) preferably contain 2 to 14 carbon atoms. Ethylenediamine, propylenediamine or triethylenetetramine may be mentioned as examples of such diamines.
According to the invention, the first reaction stage of the present process proceeds as indicated in the main patent.
Any epoxy compounds (3) can be used in the second reaction stage, as indicated in the main patent.
The organic solvents in the presence of which the second reaction stage takes place are also the same as those indicated in the main patent.
The reaction is carried out in such a way that polyaddition products that are soluble or dispersible in water are formed by adding acid, at the latest after the end of the reaction, to ensure that a sample of the reaction mixture diluted with water has a pH of 7 to 8. For this one uses e.g. inorganic or organic acids, advantageously volatile organic acids such as formic acid or acetic acid. Furthermore, it is expedient, at temperatures of at most 800C, e.g. at 45 to 700C to work. The solutions or dispersions thus obtained, mixed with acid and expediently adjusted to a content of 10 to 30% reaction product with an organic solvent or preferably with water, are distinguished by high stability.
They can be used for various purposes, especially in the textile industry, in particular for making wool felt firmly, as indicated in the main patent.
In addition, the preparations are also suitable as hair inlays and, in particular, as paper sizes in paper manufacture. The reaction products prove to be advantageous especially in the production of papers which contain calcium carbonate as a filler.
example 1
75 g of ethylenediamine (1.25 mol) are heated with 95.5 g (0.5 epoxy group equivalents) of an epoxy formed from 2,2-bis- (4'-hydroxyphenyl) propane and epichlorohydrin at 120 ° to 150 ° C. for 1 hour. A clear, medium-viscosity substance is obtained, the amino group content of which is 14.2 equivalents / kg.
70.4 g (1 amino group equivalents) of this product are dissolved in 70.4 g of n-butyl glycol and heated to an internal temperature of 60.degree. A solution of 38.2 g of an epoxide according to Example 3 (0.2 epoxide group equivalents) and 40 g of butyl glycol is then allowed to flow in over the course of 30 minutes. After a further 30 minutes, 40 g of glacial acetic acid and 280 g of water are added and the mixture is stirred until it cools. A clear, thin liquid solution is obtained with a dry content of 20% and a pH of 7.6.
Example 2
146 g of triethylenetetramine (1 mol) are stirred together with 191 g (1 epoxy group equivalent) of an epoxy according to Example for 11 hours between 110 and 150 ° C. Then it is diluted with 337 g of n-butylglycol and stirred until it cools down. A clear solution is obtained whose amino group content is 10.3 equivalents / kg.
97 g of this solution (0.5 amino group equivalents) are heated to an internal temperature of 60.degree. 19.1 g (0.1 epoxide group equivalent) of an epoxide according to Example 3, dissolved in 100 g of n-butyl glycol, are then allowed to flow in over the course of 30 minutes. Then, after a further 30 minutes, 13 g of glacial acetic acid and 85 g of water are added and the mixture is stirred until it cools down. A thin liquid solution is obtained with a dry content of 21.5% and a pH of 8.0.
Now halve the solution and give 38.5 g kz. HCl, this gives a pH of 2.0. The dry content is 180 / ,.
Example 3
100 kg of bleached sulfite pulp are ground in the Hollander in the usual way and then drained into a mixing vessel. 20 kg of calcium carbonate are added as filler to the mixing vessel. After the filler has been well distributed in the pulp suspension, 0.3 to 0.7% of the product according to the example is added, based on pulp and solids content. The mixture of substances reaches the paper machine via further stages of the paper production process.
A retention aid can be added shortly before the headbox to increase filler retention.
Papers produced with this or a similar composition of matter are mainly used as writing and printing papers and have excellent ink strengths, which is a result of their good sizing.
Aluminum sulphate, which is introduced into this system in smaller or larger amounts through the use of scrap paper, does not interfere with the sizing in any way.
In this system, the calcium carbonate can also be replaced by commercially available kaolin. The sizing effect is the same as when using calcium carbonate. Papers that contain calcium carbonate as a filler and cannot be sized with conventional sizing agents have the advantage that they enable the production of papers with good opacity and whiteness, as well as good ink absorption.
Example 4
100 kg of unbleached sulphate pulp are ground in the Hollander in the usual way and then drained into a mixing vessel. Here, 0.3 to 0.5% of the product according to Example 2 is added, based on pulp and solids content. After thorough mixing, the mixture of substances reaches the paper machine.
The papers produced in this way, in different gram weights, are suitable as wrapping paper. The achievable sizing effects are usually better than those achievable with conventional resin sizing.
