F = fA A = ¯ + 155 = 205 grades
n 8
Apparatus for bringing together a solid material
in divided or liquid form, and a gas
The present invention relates to an apparatus for bringing together a solid material in divided or liquid form and a gas, comprising a duct movable in rotation about its axis and intended to be traversed by the gas and by the gas. material, the latter forming a vein inside the duct and the latter being provided with a device for retaining said vein formed by fixed members located outside a cylindrical geometric surface coaxial with the duct.
It is known that in a furnace with a horizontal or slightly inclined axis, rotating around this axis and supplied at one end with a non-gaseous material but substantially taking the form of the container which composes it, such as a liquid or a powder, this material coming out from the other end, the importance of the cross section of the vein of the material passing along the vein tube which is commonly designated by the term slope depends essentially on the speed of rotation, the section of the tube and the intrinsic qualities of the material, the main one being its internal friction angle.
If we want to increase, for various reasons such as the residence time in the tube or the heat exchange between the material and a gas circulating in the free part of the tube, the section of the slope independently of the previous parameters, we put in places one or more coaxial rings with the tube whose internal diameter is smaller than that of the tube. These rings are commonly called dams.
This process has the drawback that the section of passage offered to the gases which travel, either by countercurrent or by equicurrent with the material, becomes very small.
For example, when the angle at which we see the slope goes from 100 to 133 and to 155 grades (1 right angle = 100 grades = 90 degrees), the maximum section of passage at the dam, compared to the section of the tube, passes from t / 2 to 1/4 and to 1/12.
It can be seen that the gas speeds increase in the inverse ratio of the passage sections and that their increased speed and turbulence lead to very significant flights of the solid or liquid material.
The object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus of the type mentioned above, the retaining device of which makes it possible to obtain a restraint of large section corresponding to an angle at the center A which can reach 200 grades without creating excessive restrictions on the section of passage of fumes or gases or flight of the treated material.
For this, the device according to the invention is characterized in that the retaining device comprises, fixed inside the duct, a set of n helical threads coaxial with the duct each having an angular development greater than 400 grades and offset.
n 400 angularly with respect to each other of - grades
n around the axis of the duct, the difference between the angle of the development of the threads and the value ± 00 grades
n being equal to the angle at the center corresponding to said value of the cross section of the vein and n being the number of threads.
Various embodiments of the apparatus according to the invention are described below with the aid of the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 shows, in section through a plane perpendicular to the axis, a cyclic and rotary heat exchanger completed by a ring intended to retain the material.
Fig. 2 likewise shows an exchanger provided with a first embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention.
Fig. 3 shows a geometric construction necessary for understanding the operation of the dam shown in fig. 2.
Fig. 4 shows, in section through a plane perpendicular to the axis, a liquid retention of 155 grades obtained by eight helicoids with a fraction of 205 grades. with downstream and upstream truncation by planes tangent to the inner cylinder and passing through the ends of the outer helices.
Fig. 5 also shows a 155-grade retaining net formed of a 50-grade fractional helicoid segment extended by two 77.75-grade tabs.
In all of these figures, the same references represent the same elements.
When the tube 1 rotates around its axis 2, the straight line which constitutes the section through the plane of FIG. 1 of the plane which limits the desired slope 5 has for envelope a circle 11 with center 2.
The central angle 9 is usually obtained (fig. 1) by a continuous ring 12 coaxial with the furnace, limited by the inner circle 11: for an angle of 155 grades, it leaves only one passage for the fumes or gases. extremely reduced in the order of 1/12 of the total section. The gas velocity, inversely proportional to this passage section, is high, resulting in increased turbulence which causes very significant flights of material 5, whether liquid or solid.
To remedy this drawback, the retaining device shown in FIG. 2 comprises on the passage of the material 5 a barrier formed by a set of helical partitions coaxial with the tube 1, all of the same fraction of pitch and deduced from one another by rotation, around the common axis 2, of the same angle.
The direction of winding of the partitions is opposite to the direction of rotation of the tube 1.
The partitions are internally limited by the cylindrical surface 1 1 coaxial with the rotating tube. The plane (18-19) tangent to this cylinder and intersecting the tube 1 forms with the latter the cylindrical sector 5, the cross section of which represents the maximum section of the slope that the material flowing in the tube 1 can form.
If the angle at the center 9 is equal to A grades and the dam is formed by n helicoid-shaped threads, the fraction of the pitch of each thread, F, is given by: F = ¯ + A grades
not
Such a pitch fraction makes it possible to obtain a liquid retention with an angle at the center A. In the case of a powdery product whose internal friction angle is not negligible, the pitch fraction can be reduced.
Each helicoid can be truncated by two planes tangent to the inner cylinder 11 and each passing through one of the end points of the helix representing the intersection of the helicoid considered with the wall of the tube 1.
The step can be arbitrary: it must however be taken neither too weak, in order to avoid to the gases or the fumes which cross the free zones of the helicoids an exaggerated pressure drop, nor too large, in order to allow, by sliding, the downshifting of the material in the rotation.
The operation of the dam is explained by assuming that the material to be retained is a liquid and that the rotating tube 1 has a horizontal axis.
The explanation also applies, however, to the case where the material is a powder and / or the tube is slightly inclined to the horizontal.
In the heat exchanger of fig. 4, a carry A, having in the case shown an angle at the center of 155 grades, is obtained by n, here eight, helicoids. The fraction of step F is therefore:
F = fA A = ¯ + 155 = 205 grades
n 8
In order to facilitate understanding of the operation of the helical dam, we project (fig. 3) by means of straight lines perpendicular to axis 2 and passing through the latter the assembly of fig. 2 on the wall of the rotating tube 1 then this projection is developed along a plane (lower part of FIG. 3).
The different helical surfaces 21 to 28 are represented by straight lines (21-21 ') ... (28-28'), inclined on the generatrices of the cylinder, the limits of the slope 18 and 19 by two straight lines 18 'and 19' parallel to the generatrices of the tube 1. The tube is assumed to be cut along the generatrix 20 which is represented on the development by two straight lines 20 'and 20 "also parallel to the generatrices.
On the development, the upstream side is at the top of the figure.
As the tube is driven only by a slow rotational movement (arrow 10), the spaces between helicoids placed in communication with an upstream liquid plane fill up to a level corresponding to this plane. We see, on the development of fig. 3, that the liquid, leveled in the compartments between helicoids, still finds an obstacle preventing the slope from falling below 155 degrees. Take, for example, the instant when, due to the rotation, the compartment (23 ', 22', 22, 23) is invaded by the liquid 23 'coming on 19'. By following the figure in its rotational movement, we see that at this moment point 22 is on line 18 ': it follows that, after leveling, the net formed by the helicoid (22, 22') makes obstacle to flow.
This reasoning makes it possible to understand that each retaining net can be, in the end, constituted by
400 a helicoid fraction of ¯ grades at the end of which
n are added two tabs formed by the section of the extension of the helicoid by two planes tangent to the inner cylinder; One of these planes passes through one end of the directing helix drawn on the tube, the other through the other end of this directing helix. The fraction of steps for each of these tabs is therefore: A
2
Fig. 4 shows such a restraint: comparison with FIG. 2 makes it possible to appreciate the importance of the truncations.
Fig. 5 shows a 155 grade carry net. consisting of a helicoid segment 31 with a fraction of pitch 32 equal to
400 8 = 50 grades extended by two tabs 33 and 34 with fractional pitch 35 equal to A - 155 = 77.75 grades
2 2
It can thus be seen that, thanks to such a device, the obstruction to the passage of gases or fumes is reduced to a minimum equal to the total section of the tube minus the section 36 of the slope. This passage section is therefore much greater than that obtained by a ring coaxial with the tube (reference 4, fig. 1).
Finally, it is possible to locate the reservoir at a determined length of the tube by arranging two helical dams similar to those described above, but the upstream dam has a pitch opposite to that of the downstream dam. Above the upstream dam and below the upstream dam, the movement of materials is due only to general parameters: inclination of the tube, speed of rotation, angle of internal friction. This improvement is not shown in the figures.
In the case where the material to be stopped is a powder and no longer a liquid, the calculated pitch fractions can be more or less reduced depending on the slope angle.
The applications of the device are numerous and include all the heat exchangers between a gas or a smoke on the one hand, a liquid or a powder on the other hand, the heat exchange taking place in one or the other direction. . By way of particular example, mention is made of the application to an alumina calcination furnace and to a calcined alumina cooler.
I1 is obviously possible to combine, in the same exchanger, the helical dam with other means such as, for example, the rings 6 and 7 of FIG. 1.
It is also possible to multiply the number of helical dams or the number of pairs of dams with reverse winding direction.
