Methylamin; Äthylamin; Isopropylamin; die primä ren Butylamine; Hexylamin; Octylamin; Allylamin; Äthanolamin; zur Darstellung von Polythioharnstoffen: I ,6-Diaminohexan; 1,9-Diaminononan; 1,12-Diamino- dodecan; 1,6-Diamino-3-methyl-hexan; 4,4-Bis[aminome thyllcyclohexan; Bis[aminopropyl]äther; Bis[aminobu tylAthioäther; Bis[y-aminopropoxy]butan ; N,N'-Bis[ami nopropyl]äthylamin;
Beispiel I
Ausbeute: 155 g Polyhexamethylenthioharnstoff.
Process for the preparation of N, N'-disubstituted thioureas
It is known that aromatic amines can be converted relatively easily with carbon disulfide to give the corresponding thioureas, while the aliphatic amines form dithiocarbamic acid salts [Houben Weyl, Volume IX (1955) Schwefel-, Seien-, Tellurverb.
Page 885].
A common synthesis for the production of substituted aliphatic thioureas is the reaction of mustard oils with the corresponding primary amines (Organic Synthesis 1955; Vol. 3, p. 617). Another method of preparation is the reaction of thiophosgene with amines. The yields in these processes are poor and the. Products heavily contaminated. The invention overcomes these disadvantages.
The inventive method for the preparation of N, N'-disubstituted aliphatic and cyclic thioureas of the formula
EMI1.1
in which formula R and R 'are aliphatic radicals or together represent a divalent aliphatic radical, from the corresponding monoamines or
Diamines and carbon disulfide are characterized in that the reaction is carried out in the liquid phase at temperatures between 60-2500C, preferably between 90 and 180ob, optionally under pressure.
The liquid phase can be created in two ways. The reaction either takes place in the presence of solvents, or the reaction is carried out in the melt of the starting materials or the end product.
The process can be carried out batchwise or continuously. In the latter case, part of the reaction product can be continuously withdrawn from the system, the thioureas formed can be separated off and the residue returned to the reaction vessel.
When working continuously, the reaction is best carried out in a countercurrent process.
The reactants will be applied as dilute gases or as solutions.
When using primary, aliphatic monoamines, according to the following equation 2R.NH2 + CSRNH.CS.NHR NHR + H2S, with hydrogen sulfide formation, N, N'-symmetrically disubstituted aliphatic thioureas are obtained. R - denotes any saturated, unsaturated, straight-chain, branched or substituted, aliphatic group.
If two different amines are used, unsymmetrically substituted ureas can of course also be prepared, although these also contain symmetrical ones in varying amounts.
When using short-chain aliphatic diamines, e.g. ethylenediamine and propylenediamine give cyclic thioureas, i.e. N, N'-ethylenethiourea and N, N'-propyleneurea.
Long-chain diamines with more than 4 carbon atoms between the NH5 groups form linear polythioureas under these conditions. Some of the carbon atoms in the diamines can be replaced by S, 0 or N atoms.
Under the same reaction conditions, N, N'-disubstituted aliphatic ureas in particular also react with CS according to the following reaction equation: R NH CO NHR + CS2 <RNH CS NHR + coS with formation of carbon oxysulphides to give the corresponding thioureas.
In the reactions according to the invention, especially when amines are reacted with Cis2, thioureas of high purity are obtained in good yields without any particular expenditure on apparatus.
The resulting H2S or COS can be worked up to sulfur or sulfuric acid by known processes.
All known solvents which are inert under the reaction conditions, such as water, alcohols, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons, halogen-substituted hydrocarbons, etc., are suitable as solvents. It is advisable to work with solvents with a boiling point between 90 and 2500C, since the application of pressure is then unnecessary. In addition, the dissolving power for the corresponding thiourea should increase sharply between room temperature and the boiling point in order to facilitate the recovery of crystallized thioureas or polythioureas. N-Propanol, butanols, toluene, monochlorobenzene, cyclohexanol, glycol and dimethylformamide have proven particularly suitable for this purpose. Dimethyl sulfoxide is also suitable for converting the substituted ureas into thioureas.
The reaction can also be carried out in the melts of the thioureas to be produced.
The reactants can be used in practically any ratio. Since the reaction takes place practically stoichiometrically and very quickly at temperatures above 90 ° C., it is advisable to work with a small excess of CS2. If there was an excess of amine, the hydrogen sulfate salts of the amines would quickly settle in the exhaust pipes and lead to blockages.
The carbon disulfide can be added to the reaction vessel in pure form or in any dilution with inert gases such as N2, CO2, CO etc., or in solution, such as e.g.
in n-propanol. A dilution of the (5. with inert gases is advantageous because this promotes the abortion of the H2S or COS from the reaction vessel.
The amines are fed to the reaction vessel either in gaseous, liquid or in solution. Gaseous amines can be diluted by inert gases.
Amines which are liquid under normal conditions can also be used by charging a carrier gas stream. The N.N'-substituted ureas are expediently introduced in solution or as a melt.
The reactants are expediently introduced into the reaction vessel separately, since otherwise dithiocarbamic acid salts of the corresponding amines will settle in the feed line if they come together prematurely at room temperature and lead to blockages.
The number of amines, diamines and ureas that can be considered is very large. For example, you can use:
For the representation of N, N'-disubstituted thioureas:
Methylamine; Ethylamine; Isopropylamine; the primary butylamines; Hexylamine; Octylamine; Allylamine; Ethanolamine; for the preparation of polythioureas: 1,6-diaminohexane; 1,9-diaminononane; 1,12-diamino dodecane; 1,6-diamino-3-methyl-hexane; 4,4-bis [aminomethyllcyclohexane; Bis [aminopropyl] ether; Bis [aminobutyl ethioether; Bis [γ-aminopropoxy] butane; N, N'-bis [aminopropyl] ethylamine;
For the implementation of N, N'-disubstituted ureas with CS2: N, N'-diethylureas; N, N'-ethylene urea; N, N'-diallyl urea; N, N'-diethanolurea, etc.
In the semicontinuous procedure, the reactants are fed to the reaction vessel simultaneously and continuously in the intended concentration and speed at the given temperature and the hydrogen sulfide or carbon oxysulfide formed is driven off. The solvent vapors entrained in the process are condensed on a reflux condenser and returned to the reaction vessel.
After a certain thiourea concentration has been reached in the solvent, the entire reaction mixture is drained off, the solvent is evaporated and the thiourea is dried. The thiourea is already present in sufficient purity for most purposes. If necessary, it can be recrystallized from alcohol-water mixtures or another suitable solvent.
In the continuous process, part of the urea solution is continuously removed from the reaction vessel, supercooled, separated from the thiourea which has crystallized out and the mother liquor returned to the reaction vessel.
When using amines with a sufficiently high boiling point or when using solutions of the substituted ureas, it is advisable to work in a countercurrent reactor. The amine or the urea solution is added to the top of the reactor and the CS! fed from below in countercurrent. A portion of the reaction product corresponding to the quantities used is continuously withdrawn from a heated collection vessel and worked up. The resulting H.2S or COS escapes at the same time via a cooler at the top of the column.
The yields given in the examples below relate to the amine used.
Example I.
A 1 liter round-bottom flask equipped with a stirrer, thermometer, reflux condenser, inlet pipes for the CS2-N2 gas mixture and for the amine is charged with 250 ml of n-propanol and heated to the boiling point of n-propanol using a heating bath.
555 ml of n-butylamine (6 mol) and about 60 liters per hour of a CS2-N2 mixture with about 32-35 SO CS2 are continuously introduced into the reaction vessel with vigorous stirring and keeping the reaction temperature constant at about 95-1050C.
The exhaust gas is taken from the cooler head and monitored by constant gas chromatographic measurement: the
The amount of CS2 is dosed in such a way that the exhaust gas contains a small amount of CS2.
After the end of the reaction time, the reaction solution is used to remove residual CS. and H2S briefly flushed with nitrogen and then drained into a crystallization vessel. 379 g of N, N'-di-n-butylthiourea separate out in the form of colorless leaflets.
A further 152 g are isolated from the mother liquor. The
The total yield is 531 g, which is 93%.
Example 2
In a reaction flask according to the example
1, 300 g of N, N'-diethylthiourea are melted and heated to about 110 - 1150C. In this melt 29 l / h of gaseous ethylamine and about
50 l / h of a CS2-N2 mixture with about 32-35% CS.
After the introduction has ended, the melt is flushed with nitrogen and drained off. Weight of the white solidified melting cake 719 g. Less the thiourea used, the yield is 419 g, that is 98%.
Example 3
A solution of 232 g of N, N'-diethylurea in 700 ml of dimethyl sulfoxide, heated to 1200 ° C., is continuously dripped onto the head of a column 1 m long and 40 mm in diameter, which is filled with Raschig rings and is heated from the outside to 140-1500C. At the same time, a CS2-N2 stream with a flow rate of 45 h / l and a CS2 content of about 30-35% is passed through the column in countercurrent. The light brown reaction mixture which accumulates in a collecting flask below the reaction tube is freed from dimethyl sulfoxide in vacuo at about 130.degree. C. and, after clarification, recrystallized from a water-ethanol mixture with a little activated carbon.
Yield: 210 g of N, N'-diethylthiourea = about 80%.
Example 4
300 ml of dimethylformamide are placed in a reaction vessel according to Example 1 and heated to boiling temperature. Then, simultaneously and continuously, 180 g of ethylenediamine and 75 l / h of an N2-CS2 mixture with about 30-35% CS2 are introduced into the reaction vessel for 3 h with vigorous stirring and at 100 to 1200.degree. The resulting hydrogen sulfide escapes together with the N2 and some excess CS, at the top of the reflux condenser. The two inlet pipes are guided in the flask in such a way that their outlet openings almost touch each other under the stirrer.
When the introduction is complete, the solution is subcooled to about - 300 ° C, the precipitated crystals are filtered off and dried at about 1050 ° C.
Yield: 295 g of N, N'-ethylene thiourea = 93%.
Example 5
1 mol = 116 g of hexamethylenediamine are dissolved in 600 ml of cyclohexanol with heating in a 1-liter reaction vessel provided with a flat ground-joint cover and otherwise equipped as in Example 1. An N2-CS2 stream (approx. 451 / h) at 30-35% (5) is passed through the solution at 1500C for approx. 2.5 hours. After a short time, the batch becomes viscous, a little later polythiourea particles separate from the solution and finally a rubber-like ball forms, while the initially almost quantitative H2S formation quickly drops.
After the reaction has ended, the polythiourea is separated off from the cyclohexanol by decanting, washed with methanol and dried in vacuo at 110 ° C. to constant weight.
What remains is a lemon-yellow, shiny, highly porous material that can be pulled into threads from the melt at around 220 to 2400C.
Yield: 155 g of polyhexamethylene thiourea.
