Zylberszag in Comptes Rendus des Seances de la Societe de Biologie 1951, Band 145, Seite 136; McLaughlin et al. in Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology 1963, Band 5, Seite 760).
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist somit ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Formkörpern, Überzügen und Verklebungen aus Polyepoxiden mit mehr als einer Epoxidgruppe pro Molekül oder deren Mischung und aromatischen Polyaminen durch Umsetzung dieser Komponenten bei Temperaturen von 20-300 C, wobei gegebenenfalls die Umsetzung ein oder mehrere Male unter Abkühlen auf Zimmertemperatur unterbrochen werden kann;

Methode A
Ausbeute: 245 g (97,5 Gew.-O/o d. Th.);
Fp.: 2022040 C;
Aminzahl: 362 (Th.: 367).

Process for the production of moldings, coatings and bonds
The invention relates to a process for the production of moldings, coatings and bonds from epoxy compounds with more than one epoxy group per molecule and special aromatic polyamines.
It is known that polyadducts of epoxy compounds with more than one epoxy group per molecule and aromatic polyamines can be used as adhesives for the production of moldings, coatings, laminates and molding compounds. Here, 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane and 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone have gained particular interest as aromatic polyamines. For rapid reaction at room temperature, catalysts, for example inorganic or organic acids or boron trifluoride complexes, are added to the mixtures.
On the other hand, mixtures of aromatic polyamines, in particular of diaminodiphenylmethane and diaminodiphenylsulfone, and polyepoxides with a long storage time are of great importance for the production of molding compounds and laminate compounds. Mixtures of the components mentioned are homogenized here at elevated temperatures, with only an incomplete reaction occurring. In this state, the so-called B-state, the amine-epoxy mixtures can be stored for a longer period of time, but by applying pressure and temperature they can be liquefied again, deformed and converted into the insoluble crosslinked final state at elevated temperatures (cf. British patent specification 822 928, the German Auslegeschriften 1 006 992, 1 089 808 and 1 061 067 as well as the German patent 1 144 480).
The aromatic amines used hitherto, in particular the most important ones, 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane and 4,4'-diaminodiphenylslulfone, however, have a number of disadvantages which make their practical use difficult or appear to be unsafe. The short service life of the amine-epoxy mixture at elevated temperatures and the highly exothermic reaction are disadvantageous in the production of moldings by the casting process in one operation. This easily leads to stress cracks in the molding. A strong shrinkage can also be observed. In the case of 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone, the high mixing temperature and the relatively high brittleness of the shaped bodies are disadvantageous. A serious disadvantage of 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane is likely to be its physiological concern.
It is highly toxic to the liver, has teratogenic properties and must be viewed as a suspicious carcinogen (cf. Zylberszag in Comptes Rendus des Seances de la Societe de Biologie 1951, volume 145, page 136; McLaughlin et al. In Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology 1963, volume 5, page 760).
It was an object of the present invention to provide a process for the production of aromatic polyamines, the polyamines produced not having the disadvantages described above, ie. H. which are physiologically largely harmless, which continue to show good processing properties and, after reaction with polyepoxides, have good mechanical properties. The object was achieved by using special aromatic amino esters for the reaction with polyepoxides in the production of the polyamines mentioned.
The invention thus relates to a process for the production of moldings, coatings and bonds from polyepoxides with more than one epoxy group per molecule or a mixture thereof and aromatic polyamines by reacting these components at temperatures of 20-300 ° C., with the reaction optionally occurring one or more times can be interrupted while cooling to room temperature;
this process is characterized in that aromatic polyamines of the general formula I

The aromatic polyamines to be used according to the invention can be prepared by various known processes. So it is e.g. B. possible, by exhaustive acylation of polyols with nitroarylcarboxylic acid chlorides to prepare the corresponding nitroarylcarboxylic acid esters (method A).
It is also possible to obtain the corresponding nitroaryl carboxylic acid esters by exhaustive azeotropic esterification of polyols with nitroarylcarboxylic acids (method B). Furthermore, the nitroarylcarboxylic acid esters can be obtained by esterification of aromatic dichloromethyl compounds with the alkali salts of nitroarylcarboxylic acids (method C).
Method A, method B and method C are explained in more detail below:
Method a
A mixture of 1-1.5 mol of polyol and approx. 0.8-1 l of anhydrous pyridine (a mixture of benzene or dimethylformamide and triethylamine can also be used, with an amount of triethylamine equivalent to the acid chloride + 5 o / o excess is used) at 20-300 C with stirring, moisture exclusion and occasional external cooling (ice water) with the equivalent amount by weight of m- or p-nitrobenzyl chloride required for exhaustive acylation (1 mole of carboxylic acid chloride per mole of OH groups of the polyol) within 0.5 Hours shifted.
After stirring for one hour at 90-100 ° C. and cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture is stirred into 2-3 l of ice water, the precipitate is sharply suctioned off, washed several times with water and dried at temperatures of 50-1300 ° C. in vacuo.
Method B.
A mixture of 1 mol of polyol (with n mol of OH groups), approx. 0.2-0.8 l of toluene, 2n-4n g of p-toluenesulfonic acid and n mol of m- or p-nitrobenzoic acid is heated under reflux, the at The water formed during the reaction is continuously removed from the system via a column with an attached water separator.
After the reaction has ended, the reaction mixture, which has cooled to room temperature, is washed first with saturated sodium chloride solution containing sodium hydrogen carbonate, then with saturated sodium chloride solution.
In the case of liquid to semi-solid reaction products, the solution is concentrated to a bath temperature of 1204300 ° C. and a constant pressure of 12-13 Torr. The remaining volatile constituents are removed by heating the vigorously stirred distillation residue for one hour at 120-130 C / 12-13 Torr and the still hot reaction product is filtered off with suction through a Seitz filter.
The solutions of solid reaction products are either concentrated as above or - if the end products are then difficult to remove from the flask - only to a bath temperature of 600 ° C. and approx. 20 torr. The distillation residue is dried in a vacuum drying cabinet at 60-80 C / 13 Torr.
Method B was used for easily soluble, liquid or low-melting starting and end products.
Method c
This method is explained using a special example:
263 parts by weight of 1.4 bis (chloromethyl) benzene are added in portions to a solution of 600 parts by weight of m-nitrobenzoic acid, 185 parts by weight of potassium hydroxide in 2000 parts by volume of glycol monomethyl ether, heated to 800 ° C., and the mixture is heated the mixture is then 2 hours to 1200 ° C. After cooling, the end product which has crystallized out is separated off by filtration, washed thoroughly with methanol and stirred several times with water in order to remove the potassium chloride formed. The yield of bis (m-nitrobenzoate) of 1,4-bis (hydroxymethyl) benzene is 513 parts by weight; Melting point 1530 ° C. The corresponding diamino compound melts at 118-119 ° C., amine number 297 (theory 298).
The aromatic nitro compounds obtained in this way can be converted into the corresponding aromatic polyamines by hydrogenation, as explained below using the example of the tetrakis (p-aminobenzoate) of pentaerythritol:
Preparation of the tetrakis (p-aminobenzoate) of pentaerythritol
Hydrogen is pumped to a mixture of 300 g (0.41 mol) of tetrakis (p-nitrobenzoate) of pentaerythritol, 600 ml of dimethylformamide and 60 g of Raney nickel, which is heated to 600 ° C. in a stirred autoclave (stainless steel) to an internal pressure of 60 atmospheres.
The reduction is carried out with stirring at an internal temperature of 60-800 ° C. and an internal pressure of 40-60 atmospheres, an internal pressure of 60 atmospheres being established by adding more hydrogen after each pressure drop to 40 atmospheres.
The uptake of hydrogen has ended after about 6 hours. The catalyst is filtered off, washed with a little dimethylformamide and the amino ester is precipitated in the filtrate with water. It is filtered off with suction, the crystalline product is washed thoroughly several times with water and dried in a vacuum drying cabinet at 1200 ° C. and 13 Torr.
Yield: 245 g (97.5 wt. O / o of theory);
M.p .: 2022040 C;
Amine number: 362 (Th .: 367).
The other amino esters are produced under the same conditions. In the case of more soluble nitrate derivatives and amino compounds, lower-boiling solvents such as B. dioxane, ethanol, methanol is used. In these cases, the product is not isolated by precipitation, but by distilling off the solvent to T bath = 120-1300 ° C. and 13 Torr.
On the other hand, it is also possible to produce the aromatic polyamines to be used according to the invention by transesterification from aminoaryl carboxylic acid esters with polyols (method D), as will be explained below using a specific example.
Method D
130 parts by weight of methyl p-aminobenzoate, 27 parts by weight of ethylene glycol and 300 parts by weight of benzene are heated to boiling in a column, traces of water being distilled off. In the course of 6 hours, 0.4 part by weight of sodium is then added in portions and the methanol released is slowly distilled off under reflux. The reaction product is filtered off and recrystallized from glycol monomethyl ether. The ethylene glycol bis (p-aminobenzoate) obtained in this way melts at 214-215 ° C. and has an amine number of 369 (theory 374).

Finally, epoxidation products of polyunsaturated compounds may be mentioned, such as vegetable oils and their conversion products, epoxidation products of di- and polyolefins, such as butadiene, vinylcyclohexene, 1,5-cyclooctadiene, i, 5,9-cyclododecatriene, polymers and copolymers which can still be epoxidized Contain double bonds, e.g. B. based on polybutadiene, polyisoprene, butadiene-styrene copolymers, divinylbenzene, dicyclopentadiene, unsaturated polyesters, also epoxidation products from olefins, which are accessible by Diels-Alder addition and then converted into polyepoxides by epoxidation with per compounds. Polymensates of unsaturated monoepoxides may also be mentioned, for example of glycidyl methacrylate or allyl glycidyl ether.
The following polyepoxide compounds or mixtures thereof are preferably used for the process according to the invention: polyglycidyl ethers of polyhydric phenols, in particular of bisphenol A; Polyepoxide compounds based on aromatic amines, in particular bis- (N-epoxypropyl) -aniline, N, N'-dimethyl-N, N'-di- (epoxypropyl) 4,4'-diamino-diphenylmethane and N-di- ( epoxypropyl) -4-aminophenyl glycidyl ether; Polyglycidyl esters from cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acids, in particular hexahydrophthalic acid diglycidyl ester, and the polyepoxide from the reaction product of 3 moles of hexahydrophthalic anhydride and one mole of 1,1-trimethylolpropane.
The quantitative ratio in which the polyepoxide compounds and the aromatic polyamines are reacted is chosen so that there are 0.5-2 STI equivalents, preferably 0.7-1.3 NH equivalents, per epoxide equivalent.
NH equivalent is understood to mean the amount of aromatic polyamine in grams in which one g atom of hydrogen bonded to amine nitrogen is contained.
The reaction of the polyepoxides with the polyamines to be used according to the invention takes place at temperatures between 20 and 3000 ° C., preferably at temperatures between 80 and 1800 ° C.
In general, the process according to the invention is carried out in such a way that the polyepoxide compounds are mixed with the polyamine of the composition corresponding to formula I in the quantitative ratio given above, optionally with heating, until a clear, homogeneous melt is obtained. The melt is then poured into a mold and z. B. in 4 hours at 150 "C and then in 24 hours at 1800 C to a transparent molded part with good mechanical and electrical properties.
You can fillers, pigments, dyes, reinforcing materials, such as. B. add glass fibers, fabrics or plasticizers, as well as mixtures of the aforementioned additives in order to influence the properties of the moldings. The shaped bodies can also contain other materials that are important for their function, such as. B. contain metal parts as current or voltage carrying components, cast or inserted.
You can also apply the polyepo zid-polyamine mixture, optionally containing solvents, pigments, dyes and fillers, to various substrates, eg. B. by troweling, painting, dipping or spraying and then carry out the crosslinking reaction by heating.
The I> olyadduktbildung can also at any point in time by cooling to z. B. room temperature interrupted and continued at a later time. The time of the interruption of the implementation is expediently chosen so that the cooling down to z. B. the mixture obtained at room temperature is in the B-stage, d. H. is solid and, when heated to the temperature of the final hardening, becomes liquid again or becomes deformable under pressure. The use of this last-mentioned method is particularly advantageous when laminates, molding compounds and coating compounds, e.g. B. after the fluidized bed process come into consideration.
To accelerate the polyadduct formation, conventional catalysts such. B. boron trifluoride adducts can be used in amounts of 0.1-2% by weight, based on the total mixture.
If the reaction of the polyamines to be used according to the invention with the polyepoxides is carried out at room temperature, for example for the production of coatings and films, the known catalysts such as phenols or their Mannich bases and inorganic or organic acids can be used in amounts of 0.1-5 O / o by weight, based on the total mixture, can also be used.
The moldings, coatings and bonds produced by the claimed process have excellent mechanical properties such as high impact and flexural strength with a high heat resistance. Because of their good dielectric properties, they are ideally suited as electrical insulation materials. In the present application, molded bodies are also understood to mean shaped structures which can be produced from casting compounds, molding compounds, laminate molding compounds and glass fiber-reinforced laminating resins. Such molded bodies are, for example, mechanical and electrical construction elements.
