Lösung A
Mixtures containing organopolysiloxanes and their use for the surface treatment of paper
The present invention relates to a mixture containing organopolysiloxanes for surface treatment and to the use thereof for the surface treatment of paper in order, for example, to give it a surface with good release properties.
There have been various organosilicon compounds for the treatment of paper and the like. Have been used to achieve good release properties, so that the paper z. B. alsl a peel-off layer for substances such. B. paper, fabric and plastic films that are coated with self-adhesive or other adhesives can serve. The masses previously used for this purpose include u. a. Mixtures of hydroxy-containing diorganopolysiloxanes and polysiloxanes with a proportion of hydrogen atoms bonded to silicon atoms with various other components, such as. B. a catalyst which z. B.
a tin acylate, such as e.g. B. dibutyltin diacetate, or an amine. The masses used so far are not always entirely satisfactory for one or more different reasons, because they z. B. cure too slowly, require a curing temperature that is too high, do not result in proper release properties of the end product and are not sufficiently abrasion resistant when used as a layer.
According to the invention, a new and improved mixture for the treatment of paper and the like.
Proposed to achieve a surface with good release properties, the 100 parts by weight of a soluble in organic solvents diorganopolysiloxane with at least two hydroxyl groups bonded to silicon atoms, which is mainly a linear polysiloxane, and per 100 parts by weight of the diorganopolysiloxane 1-25 parts by weight of a liquid polysiloxane with at least three hydrogen atoms bonded to silicon atoms per molecule and with at least three different silicon atoms to which a hydrogen atom is bonded and which is mainly linear or cyclic, 2-20 parts by weight of an organotin compound of the group diorganotin alkoxides or phenoxides, diorganodioximotin, dioximopolydiorganostannoxanes, which is soluble in organic solvents,
Contains diacylpolydiorganostannoxane or mixtures thereof and 0.2-15 parts by weight of an organic amine with a basic dissociation constant in aqueous solution of at least 10-g.
The diorganopolysiloxanes with silicon-bonded hydroxyl groups can have very different viscosities. For example, its viscosity can be 3x103-108 cSt at 25 C or more. Preferably, however, it is generally 5x105-5x107 cSt at 25 C. These compounds can have only two silicon-bonded hydroxyl groups per molecule, or they can contain more than two hydroxyl groups, one or more or none of which is bonded to a terminal silicon atom or
are. The organic groups can be substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl groups. The fluoroalkyl groups can be mentioned as examples of substituted groups. As examples of suitable groups, there can be mentioned methyl, ethyl, phenyl, benzyl, vinyl, cyclohexyl, trifluoropropyl and cyclohexenyl groups. In many cases it is preferred that at least the greater part of the organo groups are methyl groups, and it is often preferred that all of the organo groups are methyl groups. The hydroxyl-containing diorganopolysiloxanes are essentially linear polysiloxanes. However, they can contain small amounts of other groups in addition to the diorganosiloxanyl groups forming the chain. So you can z. B. contain small amounts of groups containing trifunctional silicon atoms, such as. B.
Groups of the formula CH3SiOl 5 and similar groups. Other groups or bonds that may be present in small amounts are e.g. B. Silmethylene groups and Si-Si bonds.
Small amounts of such groups can be present in technical grade diorganopolysiloxanes because they were present in the chlorosilanes that were hydrolyzed and condensed to make the diorganopolysiloxanes
The processes for the preparation of diorganopolysiloxanes with silicon-bonded hydroxyl groups are of course known and have been extensively described.
The type of preparation of the diorganopolysiloxane used in the mixture according to the invention is immaterial, provided that the necessary end characteristics are given.
The liquid polysiloxane having silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms, which is substantially linear or cyclic and preferably linear, may have a viscosity of e.g. B. more than 2000 cSt at 25 C.
However, it preferably has a viscosity of 5-200 cSt at 250 C. The ratio of silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms to silicon atoms can be very different, e.g. B. 1: 5 to 1: 1. It is preferably not less than 1: 3. In many cases it is further preferred that there is one silicon-bonded hydrogen atom for each non-terminal silicon atom of the polysiloxane. The terminal silicon atoms can be linked to a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group. In general, however, the groups bonded to the terminal silicon atoms are hydrocarbyl groups. The total ratio of silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms plus organo groups to silicon atoms can preferably be 1.9: 1 to 2.2: 1.
The organic groups can be alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl groups. Small amounts of alkoxy or aroxy groups can also be present. As examples of suitable groups, methyl, ethyl and phenyl groups can be mentioned. In many cases it is preferred that the organic groups consist at least for the most part of methyl groups. It is often preferred that all of the organ groups are methyl groups.
While the proportion of liquid polysiloxane having silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms is 1-25 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the hydroxy-containing diorganopolysiloxane, 2-15 parts by weight are generally preferably used. It is also particularly preferred in many cases that 3-10 parts by weight be used.
The proportion of the organotin compound is
2-20 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the hydroxy-containing diorganopolysiloxane. However, it is generally preferred that 3-10, especially 4-8 parts by weight are used.
The alkoxy groups present in the diorganotin alkoxides preferably contain no more than
10 carbon atoms. Methoxy, ethoxy and n-butoxy groups can be mentioned as examples of suitable alkoxy groups. Examples of suitable diorgano tin alkoxides are dibutyltin dimethoxide, dioc tyltin dimethoxide and dibutyltin dibutoxide.
The phenoxy groups that may be present in the diorganotin phenoxides are generally preferably derived from a monohydric phenol. Examples of suitable phenoxy groups include phenoxy, 4-chlorophenoxy and 4-methyl phenoxy groups. As examples of suitable diorganotin phenoxides, di-n-butyltin diphenoxide and di-nuoctyltin diphenoxide can be mentioned.
The oximo group of diorganodioximotin can, for. B. from benzaldoxime, benzophenoxime, acetophenoxime, acetoxime or acetaldoxime. Examples of diorganodioximo tin are I) ibutyl dibenzaldoximo tin, dioctyldibenzophenoximo tin, dibutyldibenzophenoximo tin and dioctyldibenzaldoximo tin. These substances can be produced by using a diorganotin oxide such as i IB.
Dibutyltin oxide, with an aldoxime or ketoxime, such as. Benzaldoxime, benzophenoxime, acetophenoxime, acetaldoxime and acetoxime, is reacted using 2 moles of the oxime per gram atom of the tin.
The oximo group present in the dioximopolydiorganostannoxane can be the same as that present in the diorganodioximotin. The dioximopolydiorganostannoxane can be prepared in a similar manner except that only 1 mole or less of the oxime should be used per gram atom of the tin. The reaction products are not necessarily the only chemical compounds, but can be mixtures of two or more dioximopolydiorganostannoxanes.
The acyl groups present in the diacylpolydiorganostannoxanes can be the same as those present in the diorganotin acylates. These products can be produced by a production method similar to the production of the diorganotin acylates, with the difference that such amounts of acid should be used that only one or fewer carboxylic acid groups are present per gram atom of the tin.
The preferred organotin compounds are: diacetoxytetraalkyldistannoxane, which is produced by reacting acetic acid with dibutyltin oxide or dioctyltin oxide in amounts to achieve 1 mole of the acid per gram atom of tin, and the dibenzaldoximodialkyltin, which is produced by reacting dibutyltin oxide with benzyltinoxide or dioctyltinoxydtinoxide 1 mole of benzaldoxime is made per gram atom of tin.
While the proportion of the organic amine used is 0.2-15 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the hydroxy-containing diorganopolysiloxane, it is generally preferred to use 0.5-10 parts by weight. The exact amount normally depends on the molecular weight and the type of amine, since in general the atomic ratio of the nitrogen of the amine to the tin of the tin compound should preferably be 0.5: 1 to 5: 1. Any organic amine with a basic dissociation constant of at least 10 g, which is soluble in the solvent used, can be used as the amine, and a primary, secondary or tertiary amine or a polyamine can be used, the amine being Wf. can also be substituted.
Hydroxyl, alkoxy, alkylamino, alkenyl, carboethoxy, trialkylsilyl, aralkyl and aryl groups can be mentioned as examples of the substituents which may be present.
It is also often preferred that the basic dissociation constant of the amine in aqueous solution be at least 10-5. The following can be mentioned as examples of suitable amines: methylamine, rithylamine. n-Butylamine, diethylamine, triethylamine, n-octalamine, benzylamine, allylamine, 2-aminoethanol, 2-aminopropanol, 2-aminobutanol, triethanolamine, ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, tetraethylenepentamine, triethylenediamine, trimethyl4-nilsilane, , N, N-diethylhydroxylamine and N, N-diethylaminoätha noi. In many cases, however, triethylenetetramine and tetraethylenepentamine are preferred.
Preferred mixtures have a sufficient 'pot life, which is different depending on the specific ingredients and the mixing ratios, but z. B. can be up to 8 days when the mixture is heated to temperatures such. B. will not keep ge above 25 C. Such pot lives are significantly longer than those of the previously available mixtures that are used for the same purpose. The mixtures according to the invention can be applied to the paper or other materials to be treated by any of the known conventional methods, e.g. B. by dipping, spraying or coating with a doctor blade or roller.
The mixtures are preferably used in the form of a solution in an organic solvent. The concentration in the solvent can be very different and is z. B. about 1 to about 30 wt / o. In general, concentrations of from about 3 to about 10 wt. O / o are preferred. The usual solvents, such as. B. aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, ethers, white spirit and other petroleum fractions can be used. Examples of suitable solvents include benzene, toluene, xylene, trichlorethylene, perchlorethylene, methylene chloride, methyl ethyl ketone, acetone, ethyl acetate, mineral spirits and mixtures of these.
After the paper or other material has been coated with the mixture, any remaining solvent is evaporated off, whereupon the mixture is hardened, e.g. B. is briefly heated to an elevated temperature, z. At 100 "C or more for about 30 seconds. In general, of course, time is inversely proportional to temperature.
Naturally, the temperature must not be so high that the paper or other material is damaged.
It is a main advantage of the mixtures according to the invention that they have a high curing speed at the usual curing temperatures, e.g. 15 seconds at 1200 C.
While the mixtures according to the invention can be used for various purposes, their excellent advantages are fully achieved when they are applied to paper and plastic films, e.g. B. films made of polyolefins such as polyethylene or polypropylene; Polyesters, e.g. B. polyethylene terephthalate; and other polymers, e.g. B. polyvinyl chloride and polyvinylidene chloride, are applied, giving the paper or the film release properties, as they are necessary when the paper or the film as a release layer for a fabric or other material that is coated with a self-adhesive adhesive used becomes.
The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments, with all quantitative data being based on weight.
example 1
There were 20 parts of a 50 O / o solution of the diorganotin compound shown in the manner described below in toluene to a solution of 100 parts of dimethylpolysiloxane with terminal hydroxyl groups and a viscosity of 1X107 cSt at 250 C and 6 parts of a liquid Methylhy drogenpolysiloxans with terminal trimethylsilyl groups and with a viscosity of 20 cSt at 25 C in 954 parts of toluene. The mixture was stirred to disperse the tin catalyst. Immediately thereafter, 21 parts of a 10% strength solution of tetraethylene pentamine in toluene were added with stirring. With the exception of the nitrogen of the oximo group, this mass had an N / Sn atomic ratio of 3.5: 1.
This mass was applied to vegetable parchment paper so that the silicone content of the paper was 0.75 µm2. The mass was cured by heating it for 30 seconds to 1200 ° C. in an oven with forced air circulation. The silicone layer obtained was highly abrasion-resistant and could not be removed from the surface by vigorous rubbing with a finger. This gave the paper an excellent release surface compared to self-adhesive adhesives. The catalyzed solution was still usable after 24 hours.
The diorganotin compound was prepared by refluxing 12.5 parts of dibutyltin oxide, 12.1 parts of benzaldoxime and 24.6 parts of toluene together for 2 hours. The water formed in the reaction was distilled off as an azeotropic mixture with toluene and the toluene was returned to the reaction mixture. The dibutyltin oxide slowly dissolved and 0.8 parts of water was collected (the theoretical amount of water for the formation of the diorganodibutyltin compound: Bu2Sn (ON = CHPh)> 2 is 0.9 parts). The toluene content of the solution was adjusted so that a 50% strength solution of the tin compound was obtained.
For comparison, a solution of a similar composition, but without the tetraethylene pentamine, was used to treat the same vegetable parchment paper and then hardened for 30 seconds at 120 ° C. A silicone layer was formed which could be removed after rubbing two or three times with the finger The solution also gelled within 2 hours.
Example 2
There were 12 parts of the organotin compound solution shown in the manner described below and 5 parts of a 10 4 / o solution of tetraethylene pentamine in toluene to a solution of 100 parts of the dimethylpolysiloxane with terminal hydroxyl groups according to Example 1 and 6 parts of the methylhydrogenpolysiloxane according to Example 1 in 1300 parts of toluene were added. The mass thus obtained had an N / Sn atomic ratio of Ob9: 1. The solution obtained was applied to vegetable parchment paper as in Example 1 and cured and gave an extremely abrasion-resistant coating when rubbed with the finger, the coating having excellent release properties compared to self-adhesive adhesives.
The organotin compound solution was prepared by heating 100 parts of dibutyltin oxide, 24 parts of acetic acid and 120 parts of toluene together under reflux for 2 hours, the water formed thereby being removed as an azeotropic mixture with toluene and the toluene of the azeotropic mixture being returned to the reaction mixture. 4.0 parts of water were removed (in the theoretical case in the present reaction: 2 Bu2SnO + 2MeCO2H o MeCO. OSnBuSnBu2OCOMe +11: 20 3.6 parts of water should be released).
Example 3
There were 20 parts of a 50/0 solution of dibutyltin diphenoxide (shown in the manner described below) to a solution of 2 parts of tetraethylene pentamine and 100 parts of the dimethylpolysiloxane with hydroxyl groups according to Example 1 and 6 parts of the methylhydrogensiloxane according to Example 1 in 1300 parts of toluene admitted. The atomic ratio of nitrogen to tin at this mass was 2.9: 1.
As in Example 1, this mass was applied to vegetable parchment paper and cured, and the resulting layer could be smeared somewhat as soon as it emerged from the hot oven. However, the smear quickly disappeared when left to stand at 200 ° C. and the layer became abrasion-resistant and had good release properties with respect to self-adhesive adhesives.
The solution of dibutyltin diphenoxide was prepared by heating 25 parts of dibutyltin oxide, 18.8 parts of phenol and 43.9 parts of toluene together under reflux for 2 hours, the water formed thereby distilling off as an azeotropic mixture with toluene and the toluene being returned to the reaction mixture has been. 1.5 parts of water were collected. (The theoretical amount of water for the reaction: Bu2SnO + 2PhOH o Bu2Sn (OPh) 2 +11: 20 is 1.8 parts).
Example 4
Two solutions A and B were presented as follows:
Solution a
1.2 parts of a methyl hydrogen polysiloxane liquid having an average composition of Me3SiO (SiHMeO) 40- (SiMe20) 58SiMe3, which was produced by simultaneous hydrolysis of a mixture of 1.75 parts of trimethylchlorisane, 37.4 parts of methyldichlorosilane and 58 parts of dimethyldichlorosilane, was added in 50 parts a 10 O / o solution of the dimethylsiloxane with terminal hydroxyl groups according to Example 1 dissolved in toluene.
Solution b
There were 0.3 parts of a mixture of cyclic methylsiloxanes, (MeSiHO) 4¯, which were produced by thermal cracking of the hydrolysis product of MeHSiCl2, in 50 parts of a 10% solution of the dimethylsiloxane with terminal hydroxyl groups according to Example 1 in toluene dissolved.
0.3 part of a 10% strength toluene solution of tetraethylene pentamine and 4 parts of a 10% strength toluene solution of dibutyltin diacetate were added to each solution. Paper samples were coated with these solutions, and the resulting coatings were cured at 1200 ° C. for 30 seconds. They were abrasion resistant and allowed very easy separation from self-adhesive adhesives.
Example 5
Two solutions with a composition similar to the composition of the solution according to Example 1, with the difference that hydroxy-containing dimethylpolysiloxanes with a viscosity of 4000 or
60,000 cSt were used instead of the hydroxy-containing dimethylpolysiloxane used there, were applied to paper samples and cured at 1200 C for 30 seconds. The coatings were very abrasion-resistant to rubbing with the finger and enabled perfect separation from self-adhesive adhesives.
Example 6
A solution of 8 parts of dibutyltin-di-n-butoxide, 2 parts of tetraethylene pentamine, 100 parts of the dimethylpolysiloxane with terminal hydroxyl groups according to Example 1 and 6 parts of the methylhydrogensiloxane according to Example 1 in 1300 parts of toluene was applied to vegetable parchment paper and heated for 1 minute at 1200.degree cured as in example 1. The resulting coating was abrasion-resistant and enabled easy separation of self-adhesive adhesive layers.
Example 7.
The procedure according to Example 1 was repeated, with the difference that instead of the 20 parts of the solution of dibutyldibenzaldoximotin, 20 parts of the 50/0 strength solution of dibenzaldoximotetrabutyldistannoxane presented in the manner described below were used. As in Example 1, the mass was applied to parchment paper and cured and resulted in a very abrasion-resistant coating with good release properties compared to self-adhesive adhesives.
The organotin compound was prepared by refluxing 25 parts of dibutyltin oxide, 24.2 parts of benzaldoxime and 49.2 parts of toluene. 1.6 parts of water were distilled off in an azeotropic mixture with toluene. The theoretical amount of water for the reaction: 2Bu2SnO + 2PhCH = NOH o (PhCH = NO.SnBu2) 2O would be 1.8 parts.
