Device for fixing a boot to a ski The present invention relates to a device for fixing a boot to a ski, comprising a member for maintaining the boot articulated with respect to a support around at least two axes. , this retaining member being fixed in the position of use by at least one retractable projecting part engaged with a bowl,
the clamping pressure of these two members being able to be regulated at will and conditioning the limiting resistance of connection.
The fixing device according to the invention is charac terized by the fact that the intersection of the planes each perpendicular to one of the two axes with the cup and passing through the center of the projecting part forms, at the point of contact with said protruding part, a different angle depending on whether it is the intersection of one or the other plane, so that the limiting bond resistance is different depending on whether the force acts along one of the axes articulation or following the other and this from the start of the solicitation.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the fixing device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a view in elevation and in axial section of this fixing device; fig. 2 is a plan view with section on 11-11 of FIG. 1.
This device for fixing a boot 1 on a ski 2 comprises a support 3 fitted against the upper face of the ski 2. This support 3 carries a rod 4 terminated by a ball joint. 5 on which is articulated a part 6. The ibre end of this part 6 carries a member for holding the shoe 1. In fact, this free end is terminated by a support plate 7 for fitting the heel 8 of the shoe. shoe.
This part 6 also has a part 9 in the form of a stirrup through which is engaged a screw 10 capable of turning freely in smooth bores 11 and 12 of part 9. A part 13 for retaining the heel 8 is engaged by a lug 14 inside this bracket 9. This lug has a threaded hole 15 in which the screw 10 engages. This arrangement therefore allows the height adjustment of the holding member 13 relative to the support plate 7, this to allow the fixing device to be adapted to the different heel heights 8.
The retaining member 13 and the support plate 7 are therefore capable of being moved in several directions, given the articulation of the part 6 according to a ball 5. Maintaining the member in use position 13 is done by means of a locking device comprising a projecting part, in this case a ball 16 engaged with a cup 17. In the embodiment shown, the ball 16 is guided in a housing 18 arranged in the support 3. A spring 19 is engaged in this housing 18 ^ to exert pressure against the ball 16 and tend to expel it from the housing 18.
An adjustment knob 20 screwed into the housing 18 and having a knurled head 21 makes it possible to adapt the tension of the spring 19 to the desired limit value of the bonding resistance of the parts 3 and 6 with respect to one another.
In known fixing devices of the same type of construction, the cup 17 generally has either the shape of a spherical cap, or a combined shape of a cap and a truncated cone, so that the value of the limiting bonding resistance of these fixing devices is the same regardless of the direction in which the stress is made to release the safe shoe.
The fixing device described above with reference to the appended drawing aims to obtain a different limit bond strength depending on whether the force acts along one of the articulation axes or the other, and this from the start of the solicitation. To achieve this goal, the bowl 17 is arranged so that the intersection of the planes each perpendicular to one of the two main axes of articulation with the bowl and passing through the center of the ball 16,
forms at the point of contact with said ball 16, a different angle depending on whether it is the intersection of one or the other plane. As seen in fig. 1, the intersection of the vertical plane passing through the center of the ball joint 5 and the center of the ball 16 with the bottom of the cup 17 gives the point of tangency of the ball 16 with said cup an angle a, while the intersection of the horizontal plane passing through the center of the ball joint 5 and the center of the ball 16 with the bottom of the bowl 17 forms, at the point of contact or of tangency with said ball 16, an angle b. In the example shown, the angle a is less than the angle b.
It therefore follows that the force necessary for unlocking the binding device following a bias in the vertical direction will be greater than the force necessary for unlocking the binding device in a transverse direction relative to the ski 2.
In the embodiment shown, the two main axes of articulation of the member for maintaining the boot intersect at right angles, the articulation taking place in a ball joint 5. It is clear that in a variant, this arti Ball joint 5 could be achieved using a gimbal assembly. In yet another embodiment, the two main articulation axes, instead of intersecting, could be arranged at a distance from one another, for example by constructing this articulation according to the cardan system with offset axes. one in relation to the other.
Such a construction would make it possible to obtain that the forces in the vertical direction, respectively in the horizontal direction on the cooperating parts which constitute the ball 16 and the bowl 17, are transmitted by two lever arms of different lengths. It would result from this construction that the limit resistance of the fixing device would be different not only because of the particular shape of the bowl 17, but also because of this different length of the two lever arms.
One could also alternatively replace the locking organ which constitutes the ball 16 capable of rotating in any direction, by a rotary locking member rotating along a well-determined axis, for example a vertical axis. Thus, this locking member rotating about a vertical axis would make it easier to release the binding device, when the force is applied transversely to the ski 2, the release following a force in the vertical direction requiring more high demand,
given that the rotary member must, in this direction, move by friction against the bowl 17.
As a further variant, it is clear that the worm member constituted by the ball 16, instead of being arranged in a housing 18 of the support 3, could be placed in a housing arranged in the part 6, the bowl 17 being then arranged in the support 3.
The binding device described above with reference to the drawing was more particularly a heel piece. However, it is clear that the same construction and the same principle of the binding device could also be used as a front stop of a ski binding of the safety type with multidirectional operation.
