Polishing apparatus The invention relates to a polishing apparatus.
When polishing relatively small particles with a complicated shape, such as watch parts, knitting needles and injection needles, a liquid-tight container, in which the parts to be polished and the polishing agent are located, is attached to the circumference of a drum and this drum is rotated at high speed, so that the particles and the polishing agent are intensively pressed against one another by the centrifugal effect, with small vibrations being generated and thereby a polishing effect occurring.
If an additional rotary movement is given to the mentioned container in such an apparatus, the polishing agent and the parts are shifted to the outer circumference of the drum by centrifugal action, and the rotary movement of the container causes a relative movement of the polishing agent in the container. This increases the friction between the polishing parts and the polishing agent and the polishing effect is heightened.
The invention makes use of this consideration and solves the problem of creating a polishing apparatus in which the polishing effect is increased even more and at the same time parts with complex shapes are polished evenly over the entire surface.
The polishing apparatus according to the invention is characterized by a number of cylindrical or polygonal containers which are rotatably mounted on shafts parallel to the main shaft, the containers being inclined to their shaft, and by means for imparting a rotary movement both to the rotary drum and at the same time the container in order to give the polishing agent and the parts to be polished in the container a flow movement in the form of a figure eight when the rotating drum and the container rotate.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing. It shows: FIG. 1 a side view of a polishing apparatus, FIG. 2 a vertical section on the line II-II in FIG. 1, FIG. 3 a side view of the polishing apparatus according to FIG. 1, FIG. 4 a vertical section on the line IV-IV in Fig. 1, Fig. 5a-5d sections through the containers on the lines CC, DD,
E-E and F-F in FIG. 4, FIG. 6 shows a schematic representation of the directions of movement of the polishing agent in the container, and FIG. 7 shows a vertical section through the container according to FIG. 6.
In Fig. 1 to 3, a polishing apparatus is shown in which a shaft 2 is mounted on a frame 1 and a rotary drum 3 is releasably attached to the shaft. The drum 3 consists of two disks 4, 5 which are connected to a shaft 6. A pulley 7, which is attached to the one pulley 4, is connected by means of a belt 10 to a pulley 9 of a motor 8, the latter on the frame 1 is angeord net. Four shafts 11 are rotatably arranged on the circumference of the two disks 4, 5. The drum 3 is, for example, at about 200 rpm. Driven by the motor 8 via the belt 10.
The shafts 11 lie parallel to the shaft 2 and are arranged symmetrically with respect to the shaft 2. A cylindrical or polygonal container 12 with an opening is arranged in the center of each shaft 11, the axis of the container 12 being inclined. A lid 13 is placed on the opening of the container 12 which is removably attached by suitable means. Four gears 14 are attached to the corresponding shafts 11 and four further gears 15 are mounted on the outside of the disk 5 of the drum 3 and mesh with the corresponding gears 14ss. A shaft 24 is mounted on the shaft 2.
A gear 16 is attached to the shaft 24 and meshes with the Zahnrä countries 15. The shaft 24 is of a clamp 17 to give, which is mounted in the upper part with the frame 1 by means of a pin 18. A rod 19 is provided with oppositely running thread portions 20 and is screwed through the two arms of the clamp 17 so that when a hand wheel 21 located at the end of the rod 19 is turned, the play of the clamp 17 is increased or decreased. If the play is reduced: If the shaft 24 is held, and if, on the contrary, the play is increased, the shaft 24 can rotate freely.
When the lid 13 is removed, polishing agent 22, parts 23 and a certain amount of water are poured into the container 12 and the lid 13 is then closed again. For this purpose, the shaft 24 is freed from the clamping bride 17 so that the container 12 can be moved freely and independently of the rotation of the drum 3 and the polishing agent and the parts to be polished can be poured into each container 12 after the container brought into a suitable position and the cover 13 is removed.
If the shaft 24 is then held with the clamp 17 and the drum 3 is rotated in the direction indicated by the arrow p in FIG. 2, the gears 14 and 15 rotate accordingly in the directions indicated by the arrows r and q. If the diameters of the gears 16, 15 and 14 are the same size, then when the drum 3 rotates, the gear 14 also makes a revolution in the directions indicated by the arrows r. This is also shown in FIG. 4 in that the drum 3 rotates in the direction of the arrow p and the container 12 runs at the same angular speed in the direction of the arrow r.
Here, the polishing agent 22 and the parts to be polished 23 move in the cylindrical or polygonal container 12 under the influence of the centrifugal force of the rotary movement always on the aussenlie lowing part of the container 12. As a result, the polishing agent 22 moves in the container 12 in the direction indicated by the arrow s indicated in Fig. 4 direction.
When the container 12 rotates in the direction of the arrow r synchronously with the rotation of the drum 3, this occurs in the manner indicated in FIGS. 5a to 5d. It is clear that in the operating states shown in FIGS. 5a, 5b, 5c and 5d, the Poliermit tel 22 and the parts to be polished 23 are always on the outside of the drum 3 because of the centrifugal force. Accordingly, the polishing medium and the parts to be polished move axially in the direction of arrows t, u, v and w in the container 12 back and forth.
In the polishing apparatus described, each cylindrical or polygonal container is arranged inclined to the shaft 11 and to the shaft 2, so that not only a rotary movement according to arrow s (Fig. 4), but also a back and forth movement according to arrows t, u, v and w occurs (Figs. 5a-5d). As shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, it is an 8-shaped movement occurring in vertical, horizontal, and intermediate diagonal directions. In this way, the polishing agent and the parts to be polished are moved and stirred on all sides.
Due to the axial back and forth movement occurring as a result of the centrifugal force, the polishing agent 22 and the parts to be polished 23 perform an intricate movement together with a rotary movement of the container and are thereby completely agitated by one another. Because of this violent and complicated movement, the polishing effect is increased and even parts of complicated shapes can be polished evenly.
For example, if parts in the form of thin platelets are polished in a conventional apparatus with a simple motion sequence, the two parts can adhere together and are not polished on the surfaces that adhere to one another. In the polishing apparatus described, however, with its tortuous movement, two plate-shaped parts are easily separated from one another and polished evenly over the entire surface.
In the example described, the angular speed of the container and drum has been assumed to be the same. This can easily be changed by designing the diameters of the gears 16, 15 and 14 differently. It is also possible to accommodate a number of other containers in a single container.
