Method and device for producing a three-dimensional shape The invention relates to a method and a device for producing a three-dimensional shape.
In the field of architecture, simple and accurate devices for quickly producing three-dimensional models based on two-dimensional information are urgently needed. Such models are invaluable to architects in the selection of optimal locations for buildings that are of a given size and weight, and for special terrain. In addition, such models are just as helpful for engineers, geologists and manufacturers of sanitary systems who have to work on the construction of fixed structures in the terrain selected by the architect. Such models can also be particularly valuable when evaluating a particular terrain for military purposes.
According to the prior art, there are already devices for producing three-dimensional models on the basis of two-dimensional information that is shown on a topographical map by Ma material from a plastic substance is removed the mass in amounts and directions with such information to match. Before these devices have a variety of precision parts that are housed in a milling device that must be carefully adjusted from time to time by the operator. The devices according to the prior art can be moved between a table which carries a reverse print of a topographical map and a device provided above it which carries the plastic compound.
Chips falling from the plastic compound can come to lie on the surface of the print, whereby the contour lines can be covered so that the surface of the reverse print has to be brushed off from time to time.
There is a possibility that when brushing the milling device is unintentionally removed from a certain position on the print, so that an impermissible error arises in the resulting three-dimensional model. Since the operator to operate the milling device at least with his head between tween the reverse pressure and the plastic mass must come to trace the fine contour lines on the reverse pressure, it is also possible that the operator is in an uncomfortable and cramped position which can result in further errors in the three-dimensional model produced.
In addition, the shavings falling from the plastic compound can get on the head or even in the eyes of the operator, which can temporarily impair their eyesight, so that further errors can occur in the finished three-dimensional model.
The present invention has set itself the goal of creating a simple method and a simple device for quickly translating two-dimensional information, which are determined by means of contour lines on a topographic map, into a corresponding three-dimensional form.
The inventive method for producing a three-dimensional shape on the basis of heights specified by corresponding contour lines on a two-dimensional topographical map, which is arranged in a first vertical plane, is characterized by a) the erection of a raw material block in a second vertical plane , which lies parallel to that of the map and is at a distance from it, b) inserting a milling tool into the raw material block to a certain depth and at a certain point, the depth and the point with the height information and the corresponding point on a certain contour line the card agrees, c)
moving the milling tool forwards along said contour line and milling material out of the block, whereby a first contour is formed, and d) repeating steps b and c for all further contour lines on the map in order to obtain a corresponding to the information on the map Form.
The device for carrying out this method is characterized by a first vertical wall for receiving a topographical map, a second vertical wall, which is arranged parallel to and at a distance from the first, for receiving a raw material block, an extendable arrangement consisting of a column constructed with an external thread and a sleeve provided with an internal thread, telescopically adjustable in length by rotating the column relative to the sleeve and a guide rod running parallel to it,
Telescopic extendable drive rod, which arrangement is displaceable over the topographical map and carries a milling tool facing the raw material block at one end, a first drive device for changing the length of the extendable arrangement for the purpose of setting a certain penetration depth of the milling tool in the Raw material block, and a second drive device for imparting a rotary movement to the milling tool.
This device is expediently designed so that the displaceable over the topographical map to order is supported on two elongated supports which are arranged horizontally at a distance on both sides of the topographi rule map, and that said to order has a holding device that a after carries guide device which is rigidly mounted on the holding device.
In a further embodiment of the device it can be provided that the first drive device has a motor which drives a counter for counting the revolutions of the column, the information from the counter providing a measure of the depth of penetration of the milling tool into the raw material block, and that a motor assigned to the second drive device drives the milling tool for the purpose of producing hat-like millings in the raw material block, the contours of which follow the movement of the tracking device.
A device designed in this way enables sufficient space to be provided for the operator who can sit or stand on the topographical map when tracing the corresponding height lines, whereby extremely precise three-dimensional shapes can be produced. Another advantage is that chips fall from the vertically mounted raw material block at such a distance from the topographical map, which is also mounted vertically, that they cannot get on the contour lines. The number can also be. the rotations of the column provided with an external thread can be quickly preselected, which enables quick work.
The invention is described below with reference to the drawing voltage, for example. The drawing shows: FIG. 1 a front view of a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention for carrying out the method according to the invention, FIG. 2 a plan view according to the line 2-2 in FIG. 1 and FIG. 3 a side view according to the line 3 -3 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 2 shows the device, which is arranged between opposite parallel and vertical walls 10 and 11 of a substantially rectangular housing, which consists of at least these two walls and a floor (not shown). An operator can sit on a chair or stand on the floor between the opposite vertical walls in order to operate the device in a manner to be described.
A solid material block 12, for example made of polystyrene, is attached by gluing or in any other suitable manner to a plate 13 which is releasably attached to the flat surface of the vertical wall 10, at a height that is for one in the Consequence be written purpose is suitable. On the flat upper surface of the vertical wall 11 in FIGS. 1 and 2, a reverse print 14 of a two-dimensional normal topographic map is releasably attached at a height which is suitable for a purpose to be described.
Since the polystyrene block and the reverse print are arranged at a distance from one another and are mirror-like in opposite vertical planes, it is clear that two-dimensional data of the reverse print according to the present invention, as described below, in a true three-dimensional form on the polystyrene block be transmitted. The opposite areas, i.e. H. the polystyrene block and the reverse pressure, of course, have the same dimensions for such data transmission.
The device has a power-driven milling device 9 which is supported on tubes 15 and 16 which are arranged parallel and horizontally at a distance from one another and are attached to the vertical wall 11 by means of suitable brackets 17 on both sides of the reverse pressure, as shown in FIG 2 and 3 can be seen. Parallel vertical tubes 21 and 22, which are kept at a distance, are fastened at their ends to connecting pieces 23, which are displaceable in opposite horizontal directions on the horizontal tubes 15 and 16, as can be seen from FIGS. 1 and 2.
As is apparent from Fig. 1 and 3, a displaceable bar mounted on the vertical tube 21 first clamp 24 is rigidly attached approximately in the middle of a horizontal rod 25, which is shown in FIGS. One end of the rod 25 is rigidly attached to a second clamp 26 which is slidably mounted on the vertical tube 22.
As can be seen from Fig. 1, one end of an elbow 27 is rigidly attached to the end of the horizontal rod 25 lying next to the clamp 26, while an opposite end of the elbow is rigidly connected to a third clamp 28 which is above the clamp 24 is slidably mounted on the vertical tube 21. It is thus evident that the horizontal rod 25 and the elbow 27 serve to form a single bracket from the vertical tubes 21 and 22 and the clamps 24, 26 and 28, the purpose of which will be described later.
At the free left end of the horizontal rod 25 spaced handles 29 and 30 are firmly attached, which extend vertically away from both the rod 25 and the vertical wall 11 (FIGS. 1 and 2). Approximately in the middle between the two Grif fen 29 and 30, as can be seen from Fig. 1 and 2, at the free end of the horizontal rod 25 one end of a right-angled rod 31 rigidly attached, which is perpendicular to the rod 25 and parallel to the vertical wall 11 extends.
A flat ring 32 rigidly attached to the free end of the rod 31 runs parallel to the latter and the vertical wall 11. The ring 32 rests against the reverse pressure applied to the vertical wall 11.
One end of a rope 36 is guided around a disk 37 and fastened to it. The disk 37 is rotatably mounted on the clamp 28 bar. The other .End of the rope 36 is guided around a spring-controlled take-up spool (not shown), which is located in an automatic rope winding device 38, which is ersicht from Fig. 1, Lich.
In a similar way, one end of a rope 39 is guided around a roller 40 rotatably mounted on the clamp 26 and fastened to it, while its other end is wound onto a spring-controlled take-up spool (not shown) which is located in an automatic rope winding device 41, The construction of which is identical to that of the rope winding device 38 in FIG. It should be noted that the ropes under the control of the corresponding rope winding device are kept taut for a purpose to be described.
One end of an externally threaded elongated extendable column 42 is concentrically coupled to the rotor of a motor 48. In addition to the clamp 26, the motor 48 is rigidly attached to the rod 25 and the angle piece 27. The other end of the column 42 is housed in an internally threaded elongated hollow part or sleeve 43. The column 42 and the sleeve 43 extend perpendicularly away from the reverse pressure attached to the vertical wall 11 and perpendicularly in the direction of the plastic block.
A known type having a built-in counter for counting the rotations of the extendable column 42 can be used as the motor 48. The series 312 alternating current pushbutton rotation counter, sold by B and B Motor Company, 206 Lafayette Street, New York, New York 10012, USA, can be used as the counter.
The motor control is such that the circuit is interrupted, whereby the motor is stopped and the counter returns to zero as soon as the extendable column 42 (FIGS. 2 and 3) has made a certain indicated number of rotations men. The motor 48 has a specially formed start button, which is positively formed with a button for setting the number of rotations and is arranged coaxially with a circular counting disk which is calibrated to count the rotations of the rod 42.
In addition to the vertical tube 21, a motor 50 is attached to the rod 25 and the elbow 27, which is connected to a suitable AC or DC source (not shown) via electrical lines 51a. The rotor of the motor 50 extends perpendicularly away from the reverse pressure. A shaft 51 rigidly attached to one end of the rotor also extends perpendicularly away from the reverse pressure and substantially parallel to the extendable column 42 and to the sleeve 43 and perpendicularly in the direction of the plastic block. A cylindrical milling cutter 56 having a suitable cutting surface is mounted on the free end of the shaft so that it rotates with it.
Holding stanchions 52 and 53 are rigidly attached to the sleeve 43 at one end. In the other end of the Hal extensions 52 and 53 sockets 54 and 55 are mounted, of which the shaft 51 is rotatably guided.
In the method of operation of the adjusting motor described below, it is assumed that each counter setting of the motor 48 allows a given number of rotations of the extendable column 42 to be counted. By the predetermined number of rotations of the extendable column, the combined length of the column 42 and the sleeve 43 and the length of the shaft 51, as described later, varied by a corre sponding amount, so that the milling tool in a position at a certain depth is brought into the polystyrene block.
Setting the motor 48 to a certain number of rotations of the extendable column 42 allows the milling tool 56 to penetrate a corresponding depth of the polystyrene block. It is thus evident that each number of rotations set on the counting disk of the motor 48 produces a milling tool position at a certain depth in the polystyrene block; the purpose of this arrangement is described below.
The prerequisite is that the total length of the drive shaft 51 in FIG. 1 can be automatically adjusted in a well-known manner via suitable articulated connections, so that the milling tool 56 engages the polystyrene block 12 when the milling device is either the highest or the lowest and those in between It traces lifts, which depends on the corresponding contour lines of the reverse pressure.
If, for example, a groove that corresponds to the height of the contour line 870 on the reverse pressure is to be milled in the polystyrene block according to FIGS. 2 and 3, the operator grasps the handles 29 and 30 and thereby moves the milling device to the left in FIG. until the opening 32 of the flat ring 32 is at the left end of the contour line.
The counting disk on the motor 48 is now set in such a way that it counts a previously selected number of rotations of the extendable column 42 in accordance with the particular height indication of the height line 870. The milling tool 56 simultaneously engages the polystyrene block in accordance with the previously selected rotations. The motor 50 may already have been left on or will then be started to drive the milling tool 56.
The operator now uses the opening of the ring 32 and the two handles 29 and 30 to move the milling device 9 so that the contour line 870 of the reverse pressure is traced, the milling device 56 being moved substantially to the right in FIG. Folg Lich cuts the milling tool 56 in the polystyrene block 12 a groove whose depth corresponds to the height of the height line and which extends in the direction thereof.
When the right end of the contour line is reached, the motor 50 can be stopped, whereby the display of the contour line is ended. It is obvious that when following the contour line, the taut ropes 36 and 39 are used to enable a balanced, effortless movement of the ring 32 over the reversing pressure and to enable the ring 32 to be held in any desired position at any time.
If, for example, a groove corresponding to the height of the contour line 880 of the reverse pressure in FIG. 1 is to be milled in the polystyrene block, the counting disk of the motor 48 is set so that a number of rotations of the extendable column 42 are counted in one direction of rotation, wherein the milling tool 56 is moved longitudinally away from the block 12 a distance that is ten meters in height, i.e. H. corresponds to the difference between two successive heights. According to the height specification of the height line 880, the operator guides the ring again to the left end of the height line.
The milling tool 56 is set in a rotary motion by the motor and in turn cuts a groove in the polystyrene block, the depth of which corresponds to the height of the contour line and which extends in the direction of this when the operator opens the ring 32 and the handles 29 and 30 are used to move the milling device 9 so that the contour line 880 is traced. When the right end of the contour line is reached, the motor 50 can be stopped, whereby the reproduction of the contour line 880 is ended.
Here, too, it is evident that the ropes 36 and 39, which are kept taut, serve to allow the ring 32 to move freely via the reverse pressure and to hold the ring in any desired position at any time.
In a similar manner, the height information of the remaining contour lines of the reverse pressure are transmitted in corresponding numbers of rotations of the extendable column 42, the position of the milling tool 56 is determined by the previously selected information of the rotation counter on the motor 48. The milling tool then mills material out of the polystyrene block to a depth that corresponds to the previously selected number of rotations so that the individual heights are reproduced.
In this way, a three-dimensional shape is produced on the basis of height information, which are defined by corresponding height lines that are shown in the reverse print of a two-dimensional topographic map.
It will be appreciated that an indicator dial may be provided on the motor 48 or other suitable location to display the elevation indications given by preselected numbers of rotations of the extendable column 42. This also shows the position of the milling tool 56 in relation to the polystyrene block.
Because the reverse print of the topographical map and the polystyrene block are arranged in mirror image to each other and because the number of grooves are directly milled in the polystyrene block when the opening of the ring of the milling device is guided along the corresponding contour lines, it is obvious that the The resulting, grooved polystyrene block is a mirror image of the contour lines on the reverse print.
However, since the above-mentioned reverse pressure is the reverse or mirror image of a normal two-dimensional topographic map, it is clear that the worked out shape is a true three-dimensional image of the height information that is defined by lines on a normal two-dimensional topographic map.
