Method and device for the photographic production of positive images, in particular portraits. The present invention relates to a method for the photographic production of positive images, in particular portraits, and a device for carrying out the method.
The need for small-format portraits, often called passport photos, is extremely high. On the one hand, they are used as souvenir pictures and, on the other hand, to an ever increasing extent to identify people by forming a component of all types of ID cards, non-transferable subscriptions to transport or cards in personal records. The great demand for portraits has led to the construction of numerous devices and facilities that enable such recordings to be made as automatically as possible. Many of these machines are equipped for coin insertion and self-service.
The majority of these known devices and facilities work with a so-called reversal process, with the recording being made directly on a light-sensitive paper, which is then processed into a positive. This development process comprises several steps: initial development, bleaching of the developed silver in a bleaching bath, treatment in a clarifying bath and then. diffuse exposure, followed by a second development, or treatment in a so-called clay bath, which makes diffuse exposure superfluous.
This known method has many disadvantages, as the processing requires at least 4 chemical baths that must be kept at the correct temperature and constantly regenerated. A white picture edge can only be achieved with an additional edge exposure, whereby the edge of the picture always remains somewhat blurred because of overexposure. In addition, the reverse development naturally requires significantly more time than a simple negative or positive development. The aim of the invention is to avoid the disadvantages of reversal development described.
This goal is achieved in the method according to the invention by converting an optically obtained image of the object to be recorded into electrical video signals using a television camera, generating a negative image with the video signals on a television screen, and imaging this image optically on a light-sensitive positive material for exposure of the same with a latent image and finally the latent image on the positive material is developed into the desired positive image.
With this method it is now possible to use a simplified development process, since the exposure of the positive material takes place through the negative image of the television screen. It is even possible to produce the positive images in a few seconds using modern rapid development processes. Also known or still to be found, dry-working development processes that z. B. carried out under the action of heat instead of chemicals can be used for image production.
This has the further advantage that the elimination of chemical baths makes the maintenance of the devices much easier and also eliminates the need for temperature regulation, regeneration and replacement of the photographic baths.
The method according to the invention is in principle also suitable for the production of color images. In this case one can either generate a negative and complementary colored image of the object to be recorded by means of a color television transmission device on the screen and use one as light-sensitive positive material that delivers color images, as is often used today for the production of color paper images on the photographic Negative-positive path is in use, or you can use a known sequential color image generation process with less technical effort,
that works with synchronously changing color filters. The image obtained optically by means of the television camera can be broken down into individual color separations one after the other through several color filters, these color separations can be transferred to the television screen one after the other using the black and white process and also one after the other in the optical path between the television screen and the light-sensitive positive material that provides color images Switch on several color filters that are matched to the sensitivity ranges of the individual layers of the color positive material used and are changed synchronously with the first-mentioned color filters while the positive material is exposed.
A device for carrying out the method according to the invention is characterized by a television camera provided with an optical lens, a television screen which is connected to the television camera by means of a video transmission device which is designed for generating a negative image on the television screen, and a photographic one Recording device with a light-sensitive positive material, an optical lens arranged between this and the television screen for imaging the screen image on the positive material and a shutter for controlling the exposure time of the positive material.
Advantageously, the device can be designed in such a way that the television screen is visible to the person operating the device and the video transmission device has switchable electrical means for optionally generating a negative or a positive image on the television screen, where the means mentioned with the shutter the photographic recording device can be in control connection so that the image on the television screen only appears negative when the shutter is open, but positive when the shutter is closed. This enables better and more convenient observation of the screen image before the shutter of the photographic recording device is actuated.
The operator can be the object to be photographed himself and thus create a self-portrait, while he observes his own facial expression on the television screen and in which it seems good to release the shutter at the moment.
In another, likewise advantageous embodiment of the device, a second television screen can be connected to the video transmission device, which always generates a positive image corresponding to the negative image on the first-mentioned television screen. In this case, the second television screen is only used to observe the increasing image before the exposure of the light-sensitive positive material, and the device can be designed so that the operator does not see the first-mentioned television screen with the negative image at all.
Further details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of an embodiment of the device for imple tion of the method according to the invention. Reference is made to the attached drawing, in which a device for producing self-portraits is illustrated in perspective purely for example.
The device shown in the drawing has a height-adjustable armchair 11 for the person who wants a portrait of himself. The armchair 11 is located in front of a cabinet 12 which contains a television camera 13 with an optical lens 14, a television screen 15 and a video transmission device 16 connecting the camera 13 to the screen 15. The lens 14 of the television camera 13 is arranged and adjusted in such a way that it gives the camera an image of the person sitting on the armchair 11.
The device 16 transmits the video signals output by the camera 13 to the screen 15, which is an optically visible image of what the lens 14 of the television camera 13 sees. In the device 16, switchable electrical means, not shown, are present, which have the effect that the image on the television screen 15 appears either positive or negative, as will be explained below. The television screen 15 is in such a position that it can be viewed by the person sitting on the armchair 11.
A second cabinet 17 is arranged next to the armchair 11 and at some distance in front of the television screen 15. In this second cabinet 17 there is a photographic recording device 18 and an automatic developing device 19. The recording device 18 has an optical lens 20 with a shutter 21, a deflecting mirror 22 and a photosensitive positive material 23. The objective 20 and the deflecting mirror 22 are arranged and set in such a way that when the shutter 21 is open, the image of the television screen 15 on the positive material 23 is sharply imaged.
The shutter 21 can be operated by remote control by means of a trigger 24, which is connected by a cable 25 to a control panel 26 of the cabinet 12 and can be picked up by the person sitting on the chair 12. When the trigger 24 is actuated, the shutter remains open for a predetermined short period of time which is sufficient to expose the light-sensitive positive material 23 to a latent image, after which the shutter is closed automatically.
The shutter 21 is also operatively connected to the aforementioned switchable electrical means of the video transmission device 16 such that the image appearing on the television screen 15 is positive when the shutter is closed, but negative when the shutter is open. The operator can thus see a positive image on the television screen 15 until the moment when the shutter 21 is triggered, which allows better and more convenient observation than if the image were permanently negative.
The positive photosensitive material 25 runs off a supply roll 27 in the form of a strip. There are motor-driven conveying means (not shown) which, after each actuation of the shutter 21, move the strip along the length of the exposed portion. Furthermore, a cutting device 28 is provided which automatically cuts off the exposed piece of positive material 23 either after each exposure or after a predetermined number of exposures, so that it can be developed.
The mentioned conveying means and the cutting device 28 are also present in the known machines for portrait pictures and therefore do not need to be explained in more detail here.
The exposed and cut piece of positive material goes into the automatic Entwicklungsvorrich device 19, which is also already known per se. Since the exposure of the positive material 23 effecting image on the television screen 15 is negative when the shutter 21 is open, only a simple development process needs to be carried out in the development device 19, which leads directly to a positive image development without reversal. The Ent development can be ren in a known manner either by means of photographic baths or by a Trockenverfah, for. B. thermally, are carried out, depending on the type of positive material used 23. The finished positive images can be taken from a collecting container 29 men.
In the upper part of the cabinet 12 lamps 30 are installed, which illuminate the person sitting on the armchair 11. In addition, the cabinet 17 can hold a similar lamp ent in its upper part.
The control panel 26 has a coin slot 31 and a control lamp 32, each of which indicates when the device is ready to produce a photograph's picture.
Although the device described is suitable for the production of self-portraits, the operator can also be different from the person to be portrayed. In this case, the operator has to position himself so that he can operate the trigger 24 and observe the television screen 15 without appearing on the screen 15 himself.
The use and operation of the device described, as well as the method to be carried out with it for the photographic production of positive images, are clearly evident to the person skilled in the art from the above description that further words are superfluous.
For the production of color images, the device is basically the same. The positive material 23 must then of course be one that supplies color images. It is preferably a three-layer color copy paper, as it is otherwise needed for making contact copies and enlargements from color negatives. Of course, the developing device 19 must be adapted to the color positive material 23 to be used.
The exposure of the positive material 23 by means of the negative image generated on the television screen 15 can be carried out in two different ways for the production of color photographs, the device having to be designed differently.
In one case, the television camera 13, the television screen 15 and the video transmission device 16 arranged between them are designed as in conventional color television, so that a colored image appears on the screen 15. The latter is positive for observation by the operator, but is automatically made negative and complementary in color for the short period of time during which the shutter 21 is open and the positive material 23 is exposed, including switchable electrical means in the transmission device 16 are present.
In the second case, the television camera 13, the television screen 15 and the video transmission device 16 are designed for conventional black and white television. In addition, however, there are several color filters that can be changed in synchronism both in the optical beam path of the television camera 13 and in the optical beam path between the television screen 15 and the positive material 23 (not shown). These filters are expediently arranged on two rotatable discs that are mechanically coupled to one another and thus inevitably rotate simultaneously and in the same way.
To drive the Filterschei ben there is a motor, not shown, which is automatically in operation at least for the duration of the opening of the closure 21. The color filters assigned to the television camera 13 successively generate several different color separations which are transmitted to the screen 15 in the black and white process. The color filters arranged between the television screen 15 and the positive material 23 must be matched to the sensitivities of the individual layers of the color positive material used. The color filters assigned to the camera 13 advantageously have the three basic colors red, green and blue.
To increase the brightness contrast in the positive image to be generated on the positive material 23, in addition to the three color separations, a black and white image without a filter or with a colorless filter can be used to expose the positive material.
Although the second variant of the device designed for the production of color images is mechanically more complicated than the first, it is at least currently more economically advantageous because the cameras and screens for the color television in use today are relatively complicated and correspondingly expensive.
In a modification of the embodiment of the device shown in the drawing, in the cabinet 12, for. B. immediately next to the lens 14 of the television camera 13, a second television screen may be present, which continuously provides a positive image and is ultimately used to observe the photographically increasing image. In this case, the electrical means for switching the image on the television screen 15 from positive to negative can be absent in the video transmission device 16, and a negative image can be continuously generated on the screen 15. It is also possible to hide the screen 15 generating the negative image from the view of the operator by, for example, adding the cabinet 17 entirely to the cabinet 12.
This has the advantage that disruptive reflections on the screen 15 can be completely avoided. The use of two separate screens for the photographic recording and the observation of the image to be recorded has the further advantage that the brightness of the former screen can be increased, so that less error-prone development processes or less sensitive positive materials can be used.
If desired, the device can also be equipped with more than one additional television screen for observation, these screens being attached at different locations so that the person portraying himself can optionally make different pictures with different head positions and these pictures in front of and during actuation of the trigger 24 can be observed. One of the screens can, for. B. immediately next to the lens 14 of the television camera 13 and another in the sideways cabinet 19, which makes it possible to make self-portraits from the front and in profile and to observe the head posture and facial expression on one of the screens.
The invention is not limited to portrait photography, but can also be used in other cases, e.g. B. in the recording of dead objects or in the remote transmission of images, use. The results that can be achieved can be compared qualitatively with direct photographic images, provided that one restricts oneself to relatively small image formats, as are customary for portraits in identification and identification documents.
