Devices for driving an intermittently rotating member The object of the invention is a device for driving an intermittently rotating member.
The device according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises two toothed rings integral with the member to be driven and being axially vis-à-vis, a carriage mounted so as to be able to move parallel to the axis of rotation of the driven member, means for controlling the back and forth movement of the carriage parallel to this axis, and a member carried by the carriage, co-operating alternately with the notches of the two crowns at the end of travel of the carriage of so that the member to be driven is turned by at least half a notch always in the same direction.
An embodiment of the device which is the subject of the invention will be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, to which FIG. 1 is a schematic elevational view of the positive device; figs. 2 and 3 are, respectively, a perspective view and an end view of certain elements of this device, and FIG. 4 is a partial plan view of the blister sheet.
In fig. 4 a continuous sheet 1 has parallel rows of cells 2 lined with dragees. Discontinuous windows 3 are made between the different rows of cells with a view to guiding the subsequent tears in the sheet necessary for the release of the dragees. Sheet 1 will subsequently be cut along parallel transverse lines 4 so as to divide it into identical rectangular plates T (fig. 3) each comprising three dragees.
The lateral surface of the drum 5 is hollow at 6 (Fig. 1) so as to receive the cells 2 lined with the sheet to be cut.
This drum is secured to two coaxial journals 7 mounted idly in two coaxial bearings, with a horizontal axis, a fixed frame 8, and toothed rings 9 axially frame the drum 5.
A carriage 10 is carried by rollers 11 (fig. 2) rolling in rails 12 (fig. 3) parallel to the axis of the drum 5. It carries, by means of a rocker 13, two wheels cutting, one 14 with a continuous cutting edge and the other 15 with a discontinuous cutting edge.
The rocker 13 mounted pivotably about an axis 16 of the carriage, can be actuated remotely by a hydraulic or pneumatic system, preferably double-acting, the piston 17 and the cylinder 18 of which are respectively linked to the rocker and to the carriage by pivots 19 and 20.
The carriage 10 also carries two rollers 21 abutting at the end of their travel against inclined ramps of the notches 9 arranged in such a way that their thrust on these ramps each time causes an angular displacement of the drum having the amplitude of one notch (or here by half a notch), which corresponds to the angular deviation of two contiguous rows of cells in sheet 1.
The back-and-forth movements of the carriage 10 along its rails 12 are controlled by a hydraulic or pneumatic system, the cylinder 22 of which is fixed and the piston 23 of which is connected by a cable 24 to the carriage, the returns of this carriage being provided by a counterweight 25 (Fig. 1).
The compressed working fluid is sent to the two systems 17, 18 and 22, 23 from the same distribution assembly 26 automatically actuating the lever 13 at times linked to the program of the movements of the carriage: thus, if the it is desired to divide the sheet 1 into tablets T each comprising five rows of cells (fig. 4), the rocker 13 is maintained in its first position (for which the discontinuous wheel 15 is applied against the sheet) for four successive paths of the carriage, then it is tilted to its second full cut position during the next carriage journey, after which it is returned to its first position for the next four runs and so on.
In order to move the cutting tool away from the lateral surface of the tool 5 during the rotations of the latter, spaces 27 of reduced diameter are axially reserved between this lateral surface and each notched neck 9; on reaching these spaces, the tool releases the drum.
A pallet 28 makes it possible to apply the sheet 1 against the drum 5 in the immediate vicinity of the cutting lines to be made in this sheet.
The rail 12 disposed downstream of the cutting tool (relative to the direction of travel of the sheet 1) is further apart than the other from the drum so as to facilitate the release of the cut-out shelves T and prevent any risk of stopping. the downstream edge of the sheet 1 against this rail.
The operation of the cutting device described above is easily understood.
After placing the downstream margin of the window sheet and cutting on the drum 5 by inserting its cells 2 filled into the corresponding holes 6 of this drum, the dispenser is started up 26: the carriage 10 then performs a series of transverse back and forth movements by applying elastically against the drum one or the other of the two knobs 14 and 15 and by rotating this drum at each end of stroke the quantity exactly necessary between two successive cuts.
The device thus automatically delivers identical rectangular plates T each comprising the desired number of rows of cells separated from each other by discontinuous slots.
This device has many advantages: the assembly of the carriage, its knives and the various control units of this carriage and of these knives can be adapted to a large number of drums 5 (with suitable notched crowns) of types. different and therefore ensure the cutting of honeycomb sheets of different spacings; it is also very easy to modify the number of rows of cells included in each of the shelves T; moreover, all of the members ensuring the intermittent drive of the drum (carriage, drive member of this carriage and toothed rings) is especially simple, robust and economical.
The intermittent angular movements of the drum could be exploited for purposes other than cutting a sheet placed on this drum, for example for printing or perforating such a sheet.
The two toothed rings, instead of being arranged axially on either side of the drum, could be arranged axially facing one another, but on the same side of this drum, these two crowns being able to coact with the same finger of the carriage and the transverse displacements of the latter being able to have an amplitude limited to that practically necessary for the actuation of the crowns.
The movements of the carriage and those of the scale can be controlled electrically.
The cutting tools can be moved away from the drum at the end of the carriage stroke by means other than terminal narrowing of the drum, for example by cooperation of the rocker with fixed spans of the frame.
