Process for the production of w-laurinolactam The invention relates to a process for the production of w-laurionolactam by the so-called Beckmann rearrangement of cyclododecanonoxime.
From German Patent No. 1094 263 it is known that a reaction mixture is formed from cyclododecanonoxime hydrochloride by the Beckmann rearrangement with the aid of sulfuric acid or oleum, from which the w-laurinolactam can be eliminated by treatment with water without neutralization .
The main patent relates to a process according to which the corresponding lactams are prepared from cyclo-aliphatic ketone oximes by umla gert the oxime monohydrochloride by exposure to hydrogen chloride in the lactam hydrochloride. Lactam hydrochloride or, if appropriate, after its decomposition, the free base can be obtained from the reaction mixture. Solvents can be used to carry out this process.
When applying this rearrangement reaction with hydrogen chloride to a solution of cyclododecanone oxime in a polar solvent, it has been found that the w-laurinolaotam can be obtained from the reaction mixture in a very simple manner. Because the w-laurinolactam hydrochloride has a very low stability, a special treatment to decompose the lactam hydrochloride can be omitted after the rearrangement reaction has been carried out. The free lactam can be obtained directly from the solutions obtained as a reaction product of the rearrangement.
According to the invention, for the production of w-laurinolactam, cyolododecanonoxime monohydrochloride is rearranged by allowing it to act, in the presence of a polar organic solvent, and the w-laurinolactam obtained is then separated off from the resulting solution.
It is known that the oxime can convert into the oxime hydrochloride with the equimolecular amount of hydrogen chloride. The oxime hydrochloride is able to absorb more hydrogen chloride and then changes into an oxime hydrochloride oil, which is rearranged. When using oxime hydrochloride oil which contains more than the equimolecular amount of hydrogen chloride compared to the oxime, e.g. B. 1.1 mol, 1.9 mol or 2 mol of hydrogen chloride per mole of oxime, a sufficient amount of hydrogen chloride is already available to carry out the rearrangement reaction.
To achieve a complete rearrangement, hydrogen chloride is usually added, e.g. B. two, five or ten times the amount in the starting material. A stream of hydrogen chloride gas can be passed through the reaction mixture in a circulation system and then recirculated.
As a polar solvent for carrying out the reaction, for. B. the nitro compounds of hydrocarbons, such as nitromethane, nitropropane, nitrobenzene, nitrocyclohexane and halogenated hydrocarbons, such as chlorobenzene, chloroform, trichlorethylene, isopropyl chloride, and nitriles such as acetonitrile, benzonitrile, adiponitrile are used.
A nitrile is preferably used as the solvent, because under the prevailing reaction conditions a partial conversion of hydrogen chloride to an imide chloride takes place, which promotes the rearrangement of the oxime hydrochloride and the reaction is terminated in a short time.
The amount of solvent can vary within wide limits. Both amounts of z. B. 200, 500 or 1000 wt .-% as such of z. B. 25 or 50 wt .-%, based on the amount of oxime, ver used. If small amounts of solvent are used, part of the oxime can initially be suspended in solid form in the solvent and go into solution during the reaction.
Furthermore, some of the lactam formed can be found as a solid in the reaction mixture.
The reaction temperature is preferably kept between 30 and 125 C, which can be done in a simple manner with this exothermic reaction. It is possible to carry out the reaction at a low temperature, e.g. B. initiate at room temperature, whereupon the temperature rises during the actual reaction process.
There are no restrictions on the pressure under which the reaction takes place. It is usually carried out at atmospheric pressure, but higher pressures, e.g. B. 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 at or an even higher pressure are easily possible. If an increased pressure is used, more hydrogen chloride can be present in the reaction mixture.
But it can also be carried out under lower pressure. The temperature and pressure can be set so that the solvent boils during the reaction, some of this solvent is then removed in vapor form and recirculated after condensation.
The reaction can also be carried out in the presence of catalysts. It has been shown that substances such as phosgene and halogenated organic nitrogen compounds, e.g. B. 1. 3. 5. -Tri-chloro-S-triazine, 2.4. -Dibromopyrimidine, imide chlorides, such as 2-chloro-azacycloalkylene, and amide chlorides, such as 2-chloro-azo-alkylene, which promote lactam formation. Large amounts of catalyst are not required since very small amounts of 0.1-1 mol%, based on the amount of oxime, are sufficient.
After the reaction has ended, the solvent, e.g. B. by distillation, removed and the w-laurinolactam, z. B. by recrystallization, distillation or washing with water.
Example 1 In a 1 liter reaction vessel equipped with a stirrer, a reflux condenser and a gas inlet pipe, 39.5 g of cyclododecanonoxime (0.2 mol) are mixed with 100 ml of acetonitrile , whereupon 14.6 g of hydrogen chloride (0.4 mol) is passed in at room temperature.
The solution is then heated to 65-70 ° C. and held at this temperature for 15 minutes while passing through hydrogen chloride, after which the order reaction has ended. After the acetonitrile and the hydrogen chloride have been distilled off, the reaction product is distilled. The yield is 37.1 g of w-laurinolactam (melting point 154 ° C.), corresponding to an efficiency of 94%. Example 11 The experiment described in Example I is repeated, but with the difference that after the acetonitrile has been distilled off, the crude w-laurinolactam obtained is washed with water.
The yield is now 38.7 g (melting point 1.51-152 ° C.), corresponding to an efficiency of 981/0.
Example 111 In a departure from the experiment described in Example I, the crude w-laurinolactam is dissolved in chloroform after the acetonitrile has been removed. The solution is washed with water and the chloro form is then evaporated.
The yield is 38.8 g of w-laurinolactam (melting point 152-153 ° C.), corresponding to a degree of efficiency. from 98 1 / o.
Example IV A solution of 39.5 g of cyclododecanonoxime in 1.00 ml of xylene is heated to 60 ° C. and a solution of 15 g of hydrogen chloride in 100 ml of acetonitrile, which is kept at 60-70 ° C., is in the In the case of game I described device is included.
After 15 minutes the reaction is complete and the solvents and hydrogen chloride are removed by evaporation. The resulting crude w-laurinolactam is washed with water.
The yield is 38.7 g (melting point 151-152 ° C.), corresponding to an efficiency of 98 0/0.
