Bimetallic switch The invention relates to a bimetallic switch, the switching temperature of which can be changed by means of a heating device supplied by a control unit, with at least one bimetallic strip and to a method for producing such a bimetallic switch and a special use of this bimetallic switch - tall switch.
In the case of heating pads and similar heating devices that are used in the household, one can basically assume different concepts. The conception that used to be common was to supply these heaters with a given constant output or output that could be adjusted in steps. This conception has the major disadvantage
that the final temperature of the heating apparatus depends on the ambient or room temperature on the one hand and on the variables determining the heat dissipation on the other. If, for example, such a heating device is operated on a very warm summer day with relatively low heat dissipation values, then the final temperature for the given performance will undoubtedly be significantly higher than on a very cold winter day and with a relatively high heat dissipation value.
With this old concept, a more or less constant final temperature could only be achieved if the final temperature that was set was in any case well above ambient or room temperature and reasonably constant heat dissipation values could be expected.
In all others; In some cases, in order to achieve a certain desired end temperature, it was necessary to incorporate a control mechanism into the heating apparatus that responds to absolute temperature values.
As a rule, bimetallic switches are installed in heating pads and other heating devices of more modern design, which switch off the heating current of the heating devices when a certain switching temperature is reached, with a temperature drop determined by the heat capacity of the heating device and the heat dissipation values in its temporal course. deit, until falling below a certain
temperature below the switching temperature of the bimetal switch, the bimetal switch switches on again and then the heating apparatus is heated up again to the switching temperature of the bimetal switch. This results in a temperature profile of the heating apparatus in the manner of the control game of a Tyrill controller, the temperature thus fluctuating around an average value in periodically repeated control games.
If different temperature levels are to be adjustable in such a temperature-controlled heating apparatus, either a separate bimetal switch or a separate bimetal strip including the associated contact element must be provided for each temperature level, or the switching temperature of a bimetal switch or a bimetal strip must be provided can be made controllable.
The solution to see a plurality of bimetal strips before is usually only used when only two levels should be adjustable. Then you can use a separate bimetal strip and the associated contact elements for each stage. In all other cases, i.e. with more than two stages, this solution is too expensive.
For this purpose, so-called controllable bimetal switches have now been developed, which are provided with a heating device arranged on the bimetal strip and fed by a control current.
By means of this heating device, the bimetallic strip is kept at a higher temperature than the temperature of the heating apparatus, which means that the temperature of the heating apparatus at which the bimetal switch switches, i.e. the switching temperature, is lower than the switching temperature of the bimetal switch in the originally controlled state ( ie when no heating power is supplied to the heating device).
With these controlled bimetallic switches, the switching temperature can be gradually reduced compared to the switching temperature in the uncontrolled state by means of different high control currents which are fed to the heating device mentioned.
However, these controlled bimetal switches have a significant disadvantage. The fact that the bimetal strip is supplied with a part of the heat output necessary to achieve its switching temperature in the uncontrolled state directly through the heating device attached to it results as soon as this directly supplied part is no longer compared to the heat supplied by the heating device is negligible,
a change in the duration of the rule game; namely, the total duration of a control game becomes shorter, the greater the proportion of the heat supplied by the control device or the lower the proportion of the heat supplied by the heating apparatus. This occurs in particular with heaters in He apparition whose final temperatures are not very much above room temperature, for example with heating cushions.
However, such a change in the rule game is undesirable in most cases, in the case of heating devices used in the household mainly because certain statutory provisions or ordinances exist for the minimum period of a complete rule game, the purpose of which is to prevent radio broadcasts from being disrupted other forms of wireless message transmission through the sparks produced when such a circuit breaker is switched or the reduction of the number of such Störun conditions per unit of time to a permissible and tolerable level.
The object underlying the invention was therefore to create a controllable bimetal switch whose switching temperature can be controlled without the duration of the control cycle being significantly influenced by this control.
According to the invention, this is achieved with a bimetallic switch of the type mentioned above in that between the bimetallic strip or strips and the heating device, a mass acting both as a thermal resistance and as a heat capacity is arranged, which is greater than the mass of the bimetallic strip or strips .
The invention further relates to a method for the manufacture of such a bimetal switch, for which it is characteristic that on a bimetal switch with non-controllable switching temperature and with at least one bimetal strip arranged in a housing or a frame on the outside of the housing or on the frame as a heating device or several olum! s:
surface resistors are attached so that the housing or the frame located between the ohmic resistor or resistors and the bimetal strip or strips forms the mass acting as a thermal resistance and a thermal capacity.
The invention also relates to the use of such a bimetal switch for heating devices with elec tric heating, in particular for household appliances with electric heating and especially for electric heating pads.
The mass acting as a thermal resistance and as a thermal capacity in the present bimetal switch can expediently be at least three times as large and advantageously greater than ten times the mass of the or
be the bimetal strip. The ispecific heat of the mass acting as a thermal resistance and as a heat capacity can be with particular advantage at 20 ° C above 0.15 cal / g C and the thermal coefficient of the same at 20 ° C below 10 ° C. Materials that meet these conditions include ceramics and most other electrical insulating materials.
The mass acting as thermal resistance and as Wärmekapazi can advantageously form the housing of the bimetal switch.
Using the following figures, the invention is explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment. Shown are: Fig. 1 a bimetal switch according to the invention in the longitudinal schmtt in the plane 1-I (Fig. 2), Fig. 2 is a view of the bimetal switch in Fig. 1 from above, Fig. 3 is a circuit diagram of a gradually adjustable ble heating pad the bimetal switch in Fig. 1.
The bimetal switch shown in Fig. 1 and 2 is with the exception of the housing 1 comprehensive Metallban of the 2 and the attached brackets 3 with the heating resistors 4a and 4b of known construction art. It consists of the ceramic housing 1, in which two bimetallic strips 5 and 6 including the associated contact and adjustment elements are installed.
Of the two bimetallic strips 5 and 6, one 6 is used to regulate the temperature by periodically switching the heating coil on and off for the entire duration of operation and the other 5 is used to turn on a rapid heating coil once at the start of operation. Details are given in the context of the description of the in Fing. 3, shown circuit of a heating pad with the bimetallic switch according to the invention.
Since only a single switching process has to be carried out with the bimetallic strip 5 after heating up and no more switching processes of the bimetallic strip 5 occur during the entire duration of the further uninterrupted operation, this and the associated contact elements can be carried out relatively easily.
In contrast, the bimetallic strip 6 used to regulate the desired temperature and the associated contact elements require special means in order to ensure reliable functioning of the temperature control.
In detail, the bimetallic strip 5 is pressed by the mounting plate 7 and the screw 8 engaging in a screw thread in the mounting plate 7 water onto a support surface 9 in the housing 1 and thereby held in place. The bimetallic strip 5 is secured against rotation within the housing by a second screw 10, which at the same time forms a contact with the tip of the contact elements assigned to the bimetallic strip 6. The screw 10 also engages in a thread provided in the loading mounting plate 7 and ver prevents rotation of the bimetal strip 5 against the housing 1 in that it engages in the hole 11 in the housing.
The bimetal strip 5 itself forms the contact arm and is with its front end 5a when the heating apparatus is not in operation on the con tact tip formed by the front end of the screw 12. The screw 12 engages in a thread provided in the plate 13. By means of the screw 12, the temperature can be set at which the bimetal strip 5 with its front end 5a lifts off the contact tip of the screw 12 and thus interrupts the electrical connection between the screws 8 and 14 that can be used as contact connections. The screw 14 also serves to fasten the plate 13 to the housing 1.
The bimetallic strip 6 is clamped between two spacers 17 and 18 by means of the screw 16 engaging in a thread in the brass strip 15 and is held at the same time by this screw 16 on the housing 1. At the front end of the brass strip 15, the contact arm 20 is attached to a small spacer plate 19, which consists of a relatively thin spring bronze sheet. Between. a provided in this contact arm hole and the front end of the bimetallic strip 6, the tension spring 21 is tensioned GE.
The contact arm 20, the Zggfeder 21 and the bimetallic strip 6 work like a toggle switch, the bimetallic strip 6 forms the operating lever of the toggle switch and the tipping point is at the curvature of the bimetal strip 6, which is assigned to the switching temperature. This tipping point and thus the switching temperature can be shifted within a certain setting range by means of the screw 22. The screw 22 engages in a thread provided in the plate 23.
At the front end of the contact arm 20 there is a contact tip which, at temperatures below the switching temperature, is connected to the contact tip provided at the front end of the screw 10 and thus creates an electrical connection between the screws 8 and 16 serving as contact connections.
As can be seen in Fig. 2, a metal strip 2 is placed around the housing consisting of a Kera mikmasse, to which two brackets 3 are also soldered from sheet metal. In these brackets 3, two resistors 4a and 4b are inserted, each of which is electrically isolated from the brackets 3 with a piece of insulating tube 24, so that no short circuit via the bracket 3 can occur between the two ends of the resistors 4a and 4b.
When the resistors 4a and 4b or one of the same are applied to voltage, the current flowing through the resistor or resistors generates current heat which is emitted to the ceramic housing 1 via the holder 3 and the band 2. As a result, the housing is heated to a certain temperature lying above the ambient temperature of the switch. The housing 1 acts on the one hand as a thermal resistor and on the other hand as a thermal capacity between the heating device formed by the heating resistors 4a and 4b and the bimetal strips 5 and 6.
More precisely, it is not a question of a concentrated thermal resistance and a concentrated thermal capacity, but rather a network constructed in the manner of an RC transit time chain from alternately arranged differential thermal longitudinal resistances and differential thermal capacities.
This acting as a thermal resistance and as a thermal capacity, formed by the housing 1 mass ensures that when switching off the. .the heating device formed by the resistors 4a and 4b, the temperature of the bimetal strips 5 and 6 remains approximately constant over a longer period, so that even with a relatively large proportion of the control power in the total heat output supplied to the bimetal switch, a relatively high and approximately constant output Duration of the rule game is maintained.
If this mass were not available and, for example, the heating resistors were attached directly to the bimetal strip, then at the moment of switching off the control power, which coincides with the switching off of the heating windings of the heating apparatus by the bimetal switch, the temperature of the bimetal strips artificially kept high by this control power sink much faster than in the uncontrolled state,
because in the uncontrolled state the drop in the temperature of the bimetal strips 5 and 6 coincides with the drop in the temperature of the heating device, while in the controlled state the temperature of the heating device is significantly lower and, accordingly, the temperature of the bimetal strips only drops is determined by their relatively small own heat capacity.
When switching on again, also in the absence of the mentioned mass, the heating of the bimetal strip by the control device would be due to the lack of any thermal resistances between the bimetal strip and the heating resistor applied directly to this or, more precisely, due to the lack of any delay elements <RTI
ID = "0003.0071"> between the bimetallic strip and the heating resistor directly applied to it take place very quickly in the same way as the previous cooling, so that overall, if the specified mass is missing, the duration of a control cycle would be shortened by The greater the relative share of tax payments, the more pronounced it would be.
With the bimetal switch according to the invention, which can be constructed, for example, in accordance with FIGS. 1 and 2, such a substantial shortening of the period of the control cycle is prevented.
It is also particularly advantageous that an existing, non-controllable bimetal switch can be used to manufacture a switch according to the invention, provided that it has a housing that can serve as a heat resistance and a heat capacity. In this case, the housing only needs to be provided on the outside with a heating device which, for example, as in FIGS. 1 and 2, can consist of a simple sheet metal holder and two standard resistors.
The bimetal switch according to the invention therefore has the additional advantage over the known controllable bimetal switches that the cost of its manufacture is significantly higher than with the known controllable switches.
In Fig. 3 the circuit of a heating pad with four control stages is shown, which is provided with a bimetal switch according to the invention, for example the bimetal switch in FIGS. 1 and 2, is provided.
To set the different temperature levels, the step switch 25 is provided, which consists of a flat track switch with two contact bodies 26a and 26b, which on the one hand are electrically connected to a conductor rail 27a and 27b and on the other hand are connected to the contact points assigned to the individual steps can be. The mains voltage is connected to the two busbars 17a and 27b.
In the I position of the contact body, the heating pad is switched off. In position II of the contact body, the power connections are connected to the two conductors 28 and 29. In this case, power is delivered to the heating coil X of the heating pad only during the half-waves of the alternating mains voltage in which the rectifier 30 is switched to pass.
At the same time during these half-waves of the control resistor R1 lying parallel to the heating winding X via the heart winding Y and during the half-waves in which the rectifier 30 is in the blocking state, the control resistor R2 of the bi-metal switch 31 lying parallel to the rectifier 30 is heated . The control currents run through the heating coils Y resp.
X, but only contribute little to the total output of the heating windings X and Y, because the main voltage drop is in each case across the control resistor R1 and R2. By means of the resistors R1 and R2, the bimetallic switch 31 is heated to over 75 C at the same time as the heating pad is heated to its lowest temperature level.
The heating of the bimetallic strip 32 to this temperature value takes place as a result of the ge switched between the bimetallic strip and the resistors R1 and R2, acting as a heat resistance and as a heat capacity with a time constant that is about the order of magnitude of the time constant for inciting the heating pad the winding X lies.
As soon as the bimetallic strip 32 has reached the temperature of 75 C, the switch controlled by this bimetallic strip is opened and both the heating current through the winding X and the control current through the resistor R1 and the resistor R2 are interrupted. This is followed by a period of cooling until the bimetal strip 32 reaches a certain th, below the switching temperature of 75 C, temperature value, z.
B. 70 C, and then the switch he controls closes again. The period of cooling or, more precisely, the time constant of cooling is essentially determined by the mass of the bimetal switch 31 acting as heat resistance and heat capacity. After switching on again, further control cycles of the same type follow periodically.
In the position III of the contact bodies 26a and 26b, the mains connections are connected to the two conductors 28 and 33. In this case, too, power is only given to a heating winding during the half-waves of the mains AC voltage in which the rectifier 30 is switched on, but in this case to the stronger heating winding Y. Ixte control resistors R1 and R2 are similar to those in position II both fed. Due to the higher heating power of the winding 4, however, there is a higher mean heating pad temperature.
4The winding R, which is switched on in stages III, IV and V when the switch controlled by the bimetallic strip 34 is closed, only serves as a rapid heating winding. It only remains switched on until the bimetal switch 31 has reached a temperature of 65 C for the first time, that is, a temperature difference by a certain temperature (in the present case 10 C) below the switching temperature of the bimetal switch 31 has reached.
If, when starting up the heating pad, stage II is switched on first and then stage III after a while, the rapid heating winding R is not switched on at all.
because the bimetal switch 31 has already reached its switching temperature of 75 C in stage 1I and thus the switch controlled by the bimetal strip 34 is already open when stage III is switched on.
It should be pointed out in this context that the temperature at which the switch controlled by the bimetal strip 34 opens must be below the temperature at which the switch controlled by the bimetal strip 32 switches on again after the cooling period of a control cycle. Appropriate. should there be a safety margin of about 5 ° C. between this restart temperature and the opening temperature of this switch controlled by the bimetal strip 34.
For example, in the present case with an (off) switching temperature of the switch controlled by the bimetal strip 32 of 75 C and an opening temperature of 65 C, the switch controlled by the bimetallic strip 34 could be the restart temperature of the switch controlled by the bimetal strip 32 about 70 C.
The Schnellanheizwick- Jung R is used to cause the heating pad to heat up very quickly when the heating pad is put into operation in the event that one of the higher (by switching levels III, IV or V is switched on) therefore considerably higher than the nominal power of windings X and Y.
For example, the nominal power of the heating winding X 20 W, that of the heating winding Y 40 W and that of the heating winding R 70 W. The nominal power here is the power with a direct connection of the windings to an alternating current network of z. B. 220 V designated.
In position IV of the two contact bodies 26a and 26b, the mains connections are connected to the conductor 28 and the parallel connection of the conductors 29 and 33. In this case, too, power is output to the heating windings X and Y only during the half-waves of the mains alternating voltage in which the rectifier 30 is switched to conduction.
At the same time, the control resistor R2 of the metal switch 31 is heated up in the same way as with the positions II and <B> IR </B> for the half waves in which the rectifier 30 is in the blocking state, while
the control resistor R1 remains de-energized in this position IV.
Finally, in the position V of the contact body 26a and 26b, the two heating windings X and Y are placed directly on the power connections and accordingly, in contrast to the positions 1I and III and IV, both during the positive as well as during the negative half-waves the alternating voltage is charged with heating current. The control resistors R1 and R2 are not switched on in this position V.
In this case, the thermal power required to control the bimetal switch 31 is supplied solely by the heating windings X and Y. The temperature of the heating pad in this position V is therefore equal to the switching temperature of the bimetal switch and therefore equal to 75 C.
In an Aus ± ührungsbeispiel the Heizkiss.ens described, the heating windings X were 2400 ohms; Y to 1200 ohms and R to 7000 ohms and the two control resistors R1 and R2 to 18 kOhm each. A silicon diode of the A 13 M2 type was used as the rectifier 30.
It should also be mentioned that a safety switch 35 with a bimetal switch that opens at 95 C is also built into the exemplary embodiment. This is used to switch off the heating pad when the bimetallic switch 31 fails and the temperature of the heating pad is inadmissible above 95 C it increases.
