Dental handpiece
The invention relates to a dental handpiece with a holding device which is arranged axially displaceably in the front part of the handpiece against the pressure of a spring, in particular for drilling or grinding tools with a smooth cylindrical shaft.
A dental handpiece of this type has already become known in which a clamping lever is attached to the handpiece which, when actuated, axially displaces the holding device, opening it and allowing the drilling or grinding tool to be replaced. Since the clamping lever is in the grip area and also protrudes from the grip sleeve in order to be able to be operated by the thumb of the hand holding the handpiece, it often interferes with work, and there is the disadvantage that the clamping lever is easily operated unintentionally.
In the case of the handpiece designed according to the invention, the clamping lever attached to the handpiece can be omitted, thereby avoiding the aforementioned disadvantages. According to the invention, the handpiece is characterized in that there is a lateral opening in the grip sleeve at the rear end of the holding device, which allows the introduction of a tool for releasing the holding device.
The tool is preferably in the form of an angle lever and is expediently used to move the holding device axially, which enables the drilling or grinding tool to be replaced.
The opening is advantageously located in an insert plate which is connected to the grip sleeve and which expediently consists of a wear-resistant material.
In the drawing, an embodiment of a dental handpiece is shown partially in longitudinal section. The handpiece shown is designed for connection to a dental handpiece motor.
1 with the grip sleeve of the handpiece is referred to.
The clamping sleeve 4 of a holding device 3 for a dental drilling tool 5 is fastened in a drive shaft 2 which is rotatably mounted in the handpiece. The holding device 3, the rear end of which is denoted by 3a, has a pressure ring 6 which surrounds the drive shaft 2 and which is firmly connected to the clamping sleeve 4 via a pin 7. The pin 7 is guided through the longitudinal slots 8 located in the drive shaft 2. A helical spring is denoted by 9, which comprises the drive shaft 2 and which is supported with its one end against a collar 10 of the drive shaft and which rests with its other end on the pressure ring 6.
By means of the helical spring 9, the clamping sleeve 4, which with its conical end 4a rests against a correspondingly formed extension of a sleeve 11 firmly connected to the front end 2a of the drive shaft, is pulled into the drive shaft 2 and compressed in the process.
If the clamping sleeve 4 is shifted via the pressure ring 6 against the action of the helical spring 9 in the direction of the front end of the handpiece, it opens and the drilling tool 5 can be exchanged.
An opening is designated by 12 which is located in an insert plate 14 connected to the grip sleeve 1 by a screw 13. The insert plate has a milled recess 15, as a result of which the wall thickness in the area of the opening 12 is reduced in order to obtain the sharpest possible tilting edges for a tool to be used for operating the holding device.
The opening 12, which in the exemplary embodiment has the shape of a rectangle, the size of which is about 1.5 m in the longitudinal direction of the handpiece and about 3 mm in the transverse direction of the handpiece, enables the introduction of a tool 16, shown for example with dashed lines and designed as an angle lever, through which the holding device 3 for the drilling tool 5 can be operated.
