<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Stock adjustable in length for firearms The main patent relates to a stock adjustable in length for firearms, comprising a body having at least one longitudinal passage, and which comprises an elongated element intended to be fixed to the firearm and one end of which extends into said passage so as to allow sliding movement between an extended position and a shortened position, guide means preventing rotation of the body relative to the elongated member during movement between the position lying down and the shortened position,
and a locking mechanism selectively engaging between the body and the elongated member at least in the extended position to prevent sliding relative movement between the two. In one embodiment of the stock of the main patent, the guide means and the locking mechanism comprise an intermediate tube in which is cut a longitudinal window suitable for cooperating with a pin projecting radially from the rod and capable of being engaged. in notches cut in at least one of the edges of the window, under the effect of the rotation of the tube on itself inside the butt.
The present invention relates to a stock of the same type, but in which the locking is achieved by other means making it possible to dispense with the intermediate tube and allowing, in particular, to completely and easily disassemble the stock to separate the body from it. weapon, which is not possible with the embodiments of the main patent, without unscrewing.
According to the invention, the stick adjustable in length is characterized in that the locking mechanism comprises a locking member capable of being actuated by an operating mechanism which comprises a hand lever connected to said locking member, the lever having a pivoting part having at least two edges defining pivot axes of the lever and cooperating with the body of the butt, so that a tilting of the lever on one of the edges causes a partial withdrawal of said locking member allowing a relative sliding between the body and the elongated element attached to the weapon to vary the length of the weapon,
and that a tilting of the lever on the other edge causes a complete withdrawal of the locking member allowing unlimited sliding between the body and the elongated element and thus the dismantling of the butt.
One embodiment of the invention will be described with the aid of the accompanying drawing, given by way of example. In the drawing Fig. 1 is a side view with partial section of an adjustable butt, assumed to be in the contracted position, the position of greatest length being shown diagrammatically in broken lines.
Fig. 2 is a section which reproduces part of the fi-. 1, but showing the parts at the position of incomplete release of the bolt.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to that of FIG. 2, but the bolt is supposed to be completely erased.
The adjustable stock 10 shown in the accompanying drawing comprises a body 12, mounted to slide longitudinally on a fixed member or rod 14, itself fixed by appropriate means to another part of the weapon, not shown, so as to extend towards the rear in a tubular portion 16 of the body 12. The rod 14 has a radial rib 18, of relatively great length, which projects outwards towards the bottom.
This rib 18 has on its underside a recess of variable depth, formed by a groove 20 and two cylindrical depressions 22 and 24. The latter extend more inward than the groove 20 and they are located at the ends of the latter. ci, as defined by the front and rear walls 26 and 28 of said groove.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
To allow the body 12 to be mounted to slide without appreciable play on the rod 14, the tubular part 16 of this body is hollowed out with a blind longitudinal bore 30 which opens in the direction of the front.
The rib 18 of the rod 14 is received in a groove 32 provided in the bottom of the bore of the tube 16, so as to avoid any angular movement between said rod and the body of the butt, while allowing relative displacement in the body. longitudinal direction.
To provide the user of the weapon with an adequate range surface, a plate 34 is provided, supported in part by a thin web 36 integral with the lower edge of the tube 16, this web going up from the plate 34. The web 36 is connected to a part 38 integral with the bottom of the housing and located thereon approximately midway between the ends of the body 12 of the butt. Part 38 preferably has a flat lower face 40 and is perforated with a vertical bore 42 which opens into groove 32.
To lock the body 12 of the butt against any sliding movement relative to the rod 14, a bolt 44 is provided, capable of moving back and forth in the bore 42, which comprises a portion 46 of reduced diameter in order to provide an annular shoulder 48 which serves as a seat for one of the ends of a compression spring 50 mounted on the rod or tail 52 of the bolt 44. The opposite end of the spring 50 bears against the cylindrical head 54 of larger diameter of the bolt 44 in order to continuously urge the latter towards its raised position in which said head 54 is housed in one of the depressions 22, 24 to positively lock the body 12 of the stock relative to to the rod 14.
The depressions 22, 24 can receive the head 54 of the bolt 44 without significant play, in order to reduce to a minimum the possible longitudinal play between the rod 14 and the body 12 when said bolt is in its high position. The head 54 is of sufficient length to extend well into the bore 42 when it is housed in one of the depressions 22, 24; in this way any force tending to move the body 12 relative to the bore comes up against the stop opposite the bolt 44, the shear stress being transmitted over the entire diameter of the head 54 in order to increase the mechanical resistance of the locking mechanism.
To enable the bolt 44 to be released from the rod 14, a hand lever 56 has been provided which enables it to be erased. This lever 56 has a U-shaped profile in section; it comprises an articulated front part 58 and a rear part 60 suitable for forming a handle, the latter being oriented in the downward direction following an obliquity which corresponds to that of the veil 36.
Towards the middle of the length of the articulated part 58 there is provided an opening 62 of relatively large diameter with respect to that of the shank 52 of the bolt 44, said shank protruding from the butt 12 towards the outside through the part. of small diameter 46 above in which it slides with reduced play in order to help keep the bolt in the axis of the bore 42.
In fig. 1, the lever 56 is shown with its rear part or handle 60 spaced from the extension 36 of the butt 12. The articulated part 58 of said lever is mounted on the projecting end of the shank 52 of the bolt and it is retained thereon. ci by means of a nut 64 screwed onto this rod. When the head 54 of the bolt 44 is in the high position, the articulated part 58 of the lever is retained in contact with the flat lower face 40 of the part 38 of the body 12 by the reaction of the spring 50.
As shown, the bottom of the U-shaped profile of the lever 56 comprises a transverse notch 66 which extends on its upper face at the junction between the two parts 58 and 60, to define a rear edge 68 on the articulated part 58. This edge rear 68 is closer to the opening 62 than the front edge 70 of said part 58. The two edges 68 and 70 define pivot axes around which the lever can be rotated in one direction and in the other with respect to the body of the butt in order to release the bolt 44.
More precisely when the handle 60 is pushed against the body 12, the part 38 of the housing 16 constitutes a fulcrum for the rear edge 68 of the lever, thus allowing the nut 64 and the bolt 44 to be moved downwards. against the reaction of the spring 50 to an extent limited by the body 12 itself which then constitutes a stop to ensure the supply of the bolt 44 to the partially withdrawn position shown in FIG. 2. For this position of the bolt, the head 54 is entirely free from the depressions 22, 24, but it remains engaged in the groove 20.
The body 12 is then free to slide on the rod 14 in order to allow the length of the weapon to be varied, while eliminating any possibility of complete disassembly of this body relative to the rod, being given that the head 54 of the bolt can then abut against the front and rear walls 26 and 28 of the groove.
After one of the depressions 22, 24 has been brought in line with the bore 42 and the lever 56 has then been released, the bolt 44 locks with the rod 14 under the effect of the reaction of the spring 50. Although only two depressions have been shown to lock the body 12 in a contracted position and in an extended position shown schematically in broken lines in FIG. 1, it is understood that it is possible to provide others with a view to producing a weapon which has a large number of adjustment positions suitable for users of different sizes.
When it is desired to disassemble the stock 10, the handle 60 is simply pulled away from the body 12, thus causing the lever 56 to pivot around its front edge 70 and consequently lowering the bolt 44 to an extent which is no longer limited only by the dimensions of the spring 50 and by the length of the bore 42. The displacement amplitude of the locking bolt is such that the head 54 thereof is then erased in the bore 42 with respect to the groove, as shown in fig. 3. The body 12 is thus fully released and can be immediately released from the rod 14.
To facilitate assembly and disassembly, an opening 72 located on the axis of the bore 42 is provided in the top of the body 12. In this way, when it is desired to mount the stock it is possible for example to insert the spring 50 and the bolt 44 in the bore 42 through this opening 72, after which the lever 56 is mounted on the projecting end of the shank 52 of the bolt and the nut 64 is screwed in to hold the parts in position .
The lever 56 can then be moved away from the body 12 to bring the bolt 44 to its fully retracted position in order to allow the body of the stock to be mounted on the rod 14. The lever is then released so that the bolt 14 can go up in one of the depressions 22, 24 and the nut 64 is adjusted so that it bears flat against the articulated part 58 of the lever, the latter then being applied
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
against the flat lower face 40 of part 38 of the body.
Thanks to the above-described arrangement, small manufacturing errors or tolerances do not prevent the bolt 44 from being brought to its partially retracted position when the handle 60 of the lever 56 is applied in contact with the body 12. If the bolt 44 does not then release the rod 14, it can be lowered by screwing the nut 64 until said bolt is clearly out of the recess. The nut 64 can then be locked in the adjustment position thus obtained by means of a pin 74. For this purpose the projecting end of the shank 52 of the bolt 44 is preferably drilled in advance so that 'there is a transverse hole capable of corresponding to a recess 76 cut in the nut 64 to receive the pin 74, thus locking this nut on the tail.
The adjustable stock described can thus be maneuvered by hand to allow easy and quick adaptation of the length of the weapon to the size of the user, or to ensure its complete disassembly, either solution depending. the direction of tilting of the lever 56 relative to the body of the stick. A weapon comprising this device is easy to dismantle on site; it can be easily shopped and transported, and it adapts in service to users of different sizes.
