Power tool The invention relates to a power tool having an impact device for driving a threaded fastener. Nuts, screws, pipe connectors or the like can be used as fastening means.
There is a need for a new, improved motor-operated tool which is provided with a percussion device and which automatically shuts off power to the threaded fastener upon reaching a predetermined rotation thereof.
There is also a need for a new and improved motorized tool which will produce more uniform tension and clamping force in the threaded fasteners and which will also be easy to adjust and operate.
In addition, there is a need for a motorized tool with a percussion device that allows a more even tension in a threaded fastener, regardless of changes caused by friction, lubrication, irregular or damaged threads of the fastener or fluctuations in the power supply to the tool causes who the.
In particular, it has been found that there is a need for a new and improved motorized tool that can tighten a threaded fastener to a certain initial torque, allow a predetermined additional rotation of the fastener and then automatically switch off the power supply to the tool. If the fastener is removed from the workpiece or taken off, the tool automatically resets itself for the next similar operation.
Impact wrenches are known that are either electrically or pneumatically driven. The screwdrivers contain devices for turning a workpiece, for example a holding device provided with a thread similar to a screw.
When a predetermined resistance to rotation occurs, these screwdrivers enter a second operating phase in which a hammer member exerts blows on the tool to allow a further rotation. The invention is based on a motor-driven tool with an impact device for driving a A threaded fastener including a control device which enables the impactor to apply an initial predetermined torque to the fastener.
The tool according to the invention is now characterized in that another device is actuated by the control device to control the final tightening of the fastening means by actively limiting the number of angular degrees by which the striking device can rotate the fastening means.

which, however, represents the valve release element in the working position. Reference is now made to FIG. The tool shown has a front housing 1, a middle housing 2 and a rear control housing 3. Within the front housing 1 there is a plunger 4 which is rotatably fastened in a suitable bearing BE. The front end 5 of the ram 4 has a square drive surface for attachment to a drive chuck or the like, which can be connected to a workpiece. The ram 4 has driven lugs 6.
The middle housing 2 has a compressed air motor 7 of a wing design which comprises a rotor 8 and wings 9. A hammer 10 is wedged within the rotor 8 and is rotatably supported thereby and driven by means of these wedges, which enable the hammer to move back and forth in the rotor 8. A cam arrangement 11 is arranged in the vicinity of the rear end of the hammer 10. The hammer 10 has driving lugs 10a at its front end.
A cam roller 12 is supported in the rotor 8 for rotation therewith. The cam roller 12 is engageable with the cam assembly 11 to rotate the same, and the cam assembly 11 is urged forward by the cam roller 12 to effect, under certain tool operating conditions,
that the hammer 10 moves forward and the driving sets 10a exert a rotary impact on the driven sets 6 of the plunger 4. After such an impact, a spring 13 returns the hammer 10 to the position shown in FIG. The motor 7 is mounted on suitable bearings, and a compression spring 14 is provided to absorb the end play or axial play of the motor.
The central housing 2 has a depending handle 15 which contains a switching member 16 which actuates an inlet valve 17. The handle 15 is provided with a threaded connection '18 for connection to a suitable pressure medium source (not shown).
When the switching element 16 is pressed, the valve 17 is opened so that the pressure medium can enter the channel 19, and from here it is passed through the control valve 20, which, if it is set for forward rotation of the tool, enables the compressed air to enter the channel 21 (see FIG. 5) and finally the motor 7, whereupon the air escapes through openings 22 and is then discharged from openings 23.
A shaft 24 extends away from the plunger 4 rearward through the hammer and motor and through the: cam assembly 11, to which it is connected in such a way that a certain limited rotational movement of the cam assembly 11 with respect to the shaft 24 to form an idle - Connection with this exists. The shaft 24 is connected to the ram 4 by a bolt 25, and the shaft 24 rotates together with the ram 4. The rear end of the shaft 24 is splined, as shown at 25a.
The rotor 8 has a rearwardly extending cylindrical part 26.
The rear housing 3 has a clutch cylinder 27 which is not rotatably mounted within this housing. A valve actuation part 28 is arranged inside the clutch cylinder 27 in such a way that it can execute a limited relative rotation thereon in b-.zug. A coupling sleeve 29 is mounted on the coupling cylinder 27 and arranged so that it can perform a limited rotation with respect to this.
An inflatable clutch assembly 30 is provided and includes an inner sleeve 31, the forward end of which is keyed to the rearward splined portion 25a of shaft 24 and rotates with that shaft. A resilient sleeve 33 is arranged substantially coaxially with the sleeve 31 and is attached to it by means of rings 34 in order to create an airtight seal between the ends of the resilient sleeve 33 and the sleeve 31.
A coupling spindle 35 is mounted within the sleeve 31 and rests against the end of the shaft 24. The rear end of the spindle 35 extends to an end plate 36 and is fastened abge within a cylindrical sleeve 37 seals.
A clutch spring 38 is attached within the rear extension 26 of the rotor 8. The front end of the clutch spring, which is right-handed ge wound, has a radially inwardly extending tab 39, the slot 40 of the non-rotatable clutch cylinder 27 in engagement with an idle slot. The other end of the coupling spring 38 has an axially extending tab 41 which extends into a slot 42 in the coupling sleeve 29 (compare FIGS. 8 and 9).
An adjusting ring 43 is fastened within a counter bore 44 of the housing 3. A coil spring 45 is arranged within the adjustment ring 43, and one end of the coil spring 45 is fixed to the adjustment ring 43 by means of a pin 46. The other end of the spring is fastened within the slot 47 of the valve actuating part 28 (see FIG. 4).
The valve actuating part 28 has a stop pin 48 which extends away from it to the rear and is in contact with the extension 43a of the setting ring 43 (see FIG. 7). The spiral spring 45 is pretensioned in such a way that it pretensions the valve actuation part 28 in the counterclockwise direction, so that the pin 48 initially rests on the extension 43a.
As can be seen from FIG. 4, a worm gear toothing 49 is worked out in the outer circumference of the setting ring 43. A worm spindle 50 is arranged within an opening 51 of the housing 3 and is fixed in the axial direction by a pin 52.
The worm spindle 50 can be operated by means of a plug-in screw bar or the like to rotate the ring 43 in different Winkeleinstellagen.
Reference is now made again to FIG. A valve 53 is arranged within a bore 54 of the housing 3 Ge. The valve 53 is normally held open by a spring 55 which extends between the rear end of the valve and the closure plate 36 on which it is fixed by means of a pin 56. A release pin 57 is installed in a bore 58 in the housing 3, as can be seen from FIG.
The release pin 57 is pressed against the valve 53 by a compression spring 59, which in turn is held in the installation position by means of a cap screw 60. The end 61 of the release pin 57 abuts a shoulder 62 on the valve 53. The release pin 57 is offset at 63 to create an annular shoulder 64. The valve actuation part 28 is provided with a driver 65 which comes into contact with the shoulder 64 under certain operating conditions of the tool.
From Fig. 2 it can be seen that the rear Ge housing 3 has a bore 66 in which a valve chamber 67 is arranged. A valve 68 is installed in the valve chamber 67 and has an extension 69 which extends away from the valve upwards.
The valve 68 is slidably seated and sealed within the valve chamber 67, and a spring 70 is disposed between the lower end of the valve and a retaining cap 71 to normally hold the valve in the upper position shown in FIG. The coupling sleeve 29 has an upper extension 72 and a lower extension 73. An adjusting pin 74 is screwed into a bore 75 of the housing 3.
As he can see, the adjustment pin 74 is in contact with one side of the extension 72, and the upper pin portion 69 of the valve 68 is in contact with the other side of the extension 72. The valve chamber 67 has a through opening 76 which is in communication with a channel 77 which extends to the bore 54 of the valve 53. The housing 3 is provided with an axially running channel 78 which extends to the end plate 36.
Reference is now made to FIG. The axially running channel 78 is connected to a channel 79 in the end plate 36. The channel 79 runs to the rear part of the coupling spindle 35. The coupling spindle 35 is provided with channels 80, 81 and 82 which can guide the pressure medium into the interior of the sleeve 31. The sleeve 31 has through openings 83 which are connected to the interior of an elastic or resilient sleeve 33 in Ver.
The operation of the tool is as follows: If it is desired to tighten a threaded fastening means, such as a nut or a screw, the switching element 16 is pressed so that, for example, the compressed air through the valve 17 in can flow through the channel 19, through the reversing valve 20 and through the channel 21, to effect a clockwise rotation of the workpiece.
As the motor 7 rotates, the rotor 8 drives the cam roller 12 with it, and the cam roller 12 engages the cam assembly 11 which in turn is attached to the shaft 24 for rotation therewith. The shaft 24 is pinned to the ram 4 by means of the pin 25 in such a way that, when the motor rotates, the ram 4 and consequently the workpiece rotate together with the motor 7. If a predetermined resistance was against rotation of the workpiece occurs, the plunger 4, which is connected via the drive 5 and a chuck (not shown) in the usual way with the work piece, is slower.
The motor 7 continues to drive the cam roller 12, whereupon it rolls over an elevation on the cam arrangement 11, with the result that the hammer 10 moves forward and the driving lugs 10a engage with the driven lugs 6 of the ram 4 causes to exert a rotary impact on this. When the hammer strikes the ram, it is knocked back by the driven lugs 6, and the spring 13 causes the hammer to return to the position shown in FIG.
The clutch spring 38, which is wound right-hand and is housed within the rear rotor extension 26, grinds with respect to the rear extension 26, since the rear end of the spring is held against a free Dre hung by being held by the tab 41, the in the slot 42 of the coupling sleeve 29 is arranged, but which can only perform a limited rotation with respect to the engine.
When the hammer bounces back, the rotor 8 also bounces back, as does the rear extension 26 of the rotor B. When the rotor 8 hits back, the clutch spring 38 moves with the rear extension 26, working as a one-way clutch, and over the flap 41 it also moves the hitch be sleeve 29 in a rearward direction or a counterclockwise direction. The projection 72, which is located on the rear part of the sleeve 29, comes into contact with the plunger 69 of the valve 68 in the event of such a rebound.
When such a rebound or kickback has reached a predetermined extent of movement, the extension 72 pushes the valve 68 down so far that compressed air can flow through the channel 76 into the channel 77, whereupon the compressed air holds the valve 68 in a lower position, which in turn has the consequence that the channel 78 is exposed to the compressed air. The channel 78 is in connection with the channel 79, which in turn communicates with the channels 80, 81, 82 and 83 of the spindle 35 and the sleeve 31, which enables the pressure medium to expand the flexible coupling sleeve 33 of the coupling arrangement 30 can.
When the resilient coupling sleeve 33 expands, it comes into frictional engagement with the valve actuating member 28 in the interior thereof. Since the coupling arrangement 30 is keyed to the shaft 24 by means of the spline 25a, the expansion of the coupling arrangement 30, which is in engagement with the valve actuating part 28, causes the valve actuating part 28 to rotate with the shaft 24, which in turn the plunger 4 sets in rotation. If the work piece is tightened here, the plunger 4, the shaft 24, the coupling arrangement 30 and the valve actuating part 28 rotate together.
When the workpiece continues its rotation, the valve actuating part 28 rotates by a predetermined number of degrees, whereupon the driver 65 on the valve actuating part 28 comes into contact with the shoulder 64 of the release pin 57 and lifts it off the shoulder 62 of the valve 53 (see Fig . 3).
When the release pin 57 is switched in this way, the valve 53 is closed by the compressed air in the tool, which overcomes the bias of the spring 55, and the tool is thereby switched off.
When the switching element 16 is released, the compressed air that has expanded the clutch assembly 30 can return to atmospheric pressure, whereupon the clutch assembly 30 releases itself from the valve actuation part 28, so that the coil spring 45 can rotate the valve actuation part counterclockwise for so long until the stop pin 48 on the actuating part 28 is in contact with the extension 43a of the adjusting ring 43.
The adjustment ring 43 can initially be adjusted by means of the worm spindle 50 in order to set the stop pin 48 and the extension 43a so that the various degrees of rotational movement are achieved after the expandable or inflatable coupling arrangement 30 has been actuated, as described above .
It can be seen from this that the further the actuating part 28 and its driver 65 are adjusted counterclockwise before the expandable coupling is brought into engagement, the further these parts have to run clockwise before the driver 65 switches the release pin 57.
In the tool shown, the range of angular movement of the control device after actuation of the expandable coupling extends from 0 to about 300 degrees. It should be noted that if. a movement of more than 360 degrees is desired before the trigger pin 57 is to be switched, a spiral groove arrangement for the stop pin 48 in the adjusting ring 43 can be used.
Reference is now made to FIG. Depending on the desired extent of the initial snug fit before the rebound of the percussion device, as just described, actuates the detectable coupling, the adjusting screw 74 can be screwed in or out, as desired, by a predetermined movement on rebound of the approach 72 before it switches the valve 68.
The predetermined torque to which the threaded fastener is tightened can be determined by noise or empirically, and after such a seat or a predetermined torque of the workpiece has been established, it can then be empirically determined how far the workpiece is still is to be rotated after this seat or the predetermined torque has been reached.
For example, if it is decided that the threaded workpiece should be rotated 180 degrees after the initial seat or predetermined torque is reached, then the adjusting ring 43 is set by the worm screw 50 so that it turns Rotates 180 degrees after the rebound of the device actuates valve 68 to operate expandable clutch assembly 30.
In the exemplary embodiment shown, the numbers to be seen in FIG. 7 are divided into approximately 30 GTad sections. The rotation setting to the number 6 therefore enables the control device with the ram to rotate by approximately 180 degrees after a predetermined torque has been reached and the expandable clutch arrangement 30 has been brought into engagement.
From the description it can be seen that the tool described works like a conventional impact wrench until a predetermined resistance to rotation of the workpiece occurs, whereupon the device, which responds to the rebound of the impact device, sets a device in motion that it enables ,
that the workpiece is additionally rotated further by only a certain number of degrees from this predetermined seat into the final seat, this number of degrees being determined by adjusting the setting ring 43. After this rotation has taken place by a predetermined number of degrees, the tool switches off automatically.
When the tool is removed from the workpiece in order to carry out another similar operation, the switching element 16 will be released, whereupon the compressed air in the tool is reduced to atmospheric pressure. If this is the case, the clutch assembly 30 releases itself from the valve actuating part 28, whereupon the spiral spring 45 returns the valve actuating part counterclockwise,
until the stop 48 comes to rest on the extension 43a of the setting ring 43.
The device shown here, which puts the device in operation, which controls the rotation of the nut after an initial torque has been reached, responds immediately to the rebound of the impact device; it will be appreciated that various torque responsive devices can be used to operate the devices to rotate the workpiece a predetermined number of degrees after a predetermined initial torque is present.
For example, a flywheel can be mounted on a cam on the rear of the impactor so that the flywheel moves axially on the cam when a predetermined initial torque has been achieved, and this axial movement of the flywheel can switch valve 68 or operate other devices to connect the control device via the shaft 24 and the ram 4 with the workpiece.
It can be seen that after the pressure medium in the tool has dropped to atmospheric pressure and the spiral spring 45 has rotated the valve actuating part 28 and, with it, the driver 65 counterclockwise, the spring 70 turns the valve 68 into that shown in FIG Position returns, and the spring 59 brings the trigger pin back to the position shown in FIG.
At the same time, the spring 55 returns the valve 53 to the position shown in FIG. 1, whereby the tool is reset for a work sequence as just described.
It will now be taken to Figs. 10, 11 and 12 GE taken, in which another embodiment of the invention is shown, which is generally similar to that just described and also ar processed in a similar manner.
The main difference in the embodiment shown in FIGS. 10 to 12 lies in the shut-off valve device. This embodiment has a rear housing 3a which has an adjusting knob 101 which is fastened to the housing by means of an end plate 102. A stationary coupling cylinder 27a is installed within the housing 3a.
A clutch spring 38 a is provided inside the rear cylindrical part 26 of the rotor 8. A clutch sleeve 29a is disposed on the clutch cylinder 27a and over part of the clutch spring 38a. The coupling sleeve 29a is slotted at 103. The front part of the spring 38a is fastened in a slot 103a of the clutch cylinder 27a.
The rear part of the spring 38a is secured within the slot 103 of the coupling sleeve 29a. A valve actuation part 28a is arranged within the cylinder 27a 'for executing a limited rotary movement.
In a bore 104 of the housing 3a, a valve assembly 105 is provided. The valve arrangement 105 is pressed into the position shown in FIG. 10 by a spring 106. The valve arrangement has a rotatably mounted release element 107 which is pressed into the position shown in FIG. 10 by a spring 108. The release element 107 is in contact with a shoulder 109 of a valve sleeve 110.
The valve 105 is adjusted by means of an adjusting screw 111 and secured in the installed position.
As shown in FIGS. 11 and 12, the housing 3a has a bore 112 in which a switch pin 113 is arranged. The rear end of the valve operating part 28 a is provided with an operating pin 114.
In the setting shown, the knob 101 is turned counterclockwise until the pin is in the position shown in Fig. 11, this setting applies to a rotation of about 270 degrees after the coupling device due to a certain torque before with Threaded fastening means has been actuated.
After the predetermined torque is reached, the switching valve 68 is opened by an approach on the coupling sleeve 29a, whereupon the compressed air to the channels 115 and 116 and the interior of the inflatable or expandable coupling arrangement 30 via the spindle 35 leads in a manner which has been described above, whereupon, when the clutch assembly rotates, the stop pin 114 comes into contact with the end 117 of the switching pin 113, which moves the rotatably mounted release member 107 downward out of engagement with the shoulder 109 (see FIG. 12).
The air pressure in the tool then moves the valve 105 to the right, the pre-tension of the spring 106 being overcome in order to switch off the compressed air supply to the tool. The switching element 16 is then released, and the work tool is removed from the workpiece, whereupon the pressure medium in the tool drops to atmospheric pressure. Then the coil spring 45 leads the valve actuating part 28a and the switching pin 114 carried by this back into the position shown in FIG.
The springs 106 and 108 also return the valve 105 and the release element 107 to the positions shown in FIG. 10, so that the release element 107 comes into engagement with the shoulder 109 of the valve sleeve 110 again.
If one of the tools is operated in reverse or counterclockwise direction, for example when removing the nut or the like, it is usually not desirable for the clutch control to function. Therefore, when the reversing valve 20 is set to the reversing position, the channels 78 and 79 of the first embodiment and the channels 115 and 116 of the second embodiment are not exposed to the pressure medium.
When set in a reverse position, the air passage 118 is exposed to the pressure medium to drive the motor in a reverse direction or counterclockwise (see Fig. 5). The clutch assembly 30 is therefore made ineffective ge when operating in a reverse direction. When working in a reverse direction, the front end of the clutch spring 38 comes into engagement with the slot 40 by means of the tab 39. The slot 40 is located in the stationary clutch cylinder 27.
The spring 38 is thereby held back against free rotation in an anti-clockwise direction, and since this is a right-hand wound spring, the rear rotor extension 26 slides on the spring 38.
From the above it can be seen that when the tool is operated in a clockwise direction, the workpiece is tightened and struck to a predetermined torque and that when this predetermined torque is reached, a device is set in motion, whereby the workpiece is additionally rotated by a predetermined number of angular degrees can be, whereupon the tool is automatically switched off. When the tool is removed from the workpiece for the next similar operation, the coupling device returns to its original position by itself.
When it is desired to use the tool to loosen a nut or the like, the impact device of the tool comes into operation to loosen or loosen such a fastener. The coupling device which is used to control the amount of rotation of the nut when the tool is operated clockwise, however, remains ineffective when the tool is operated counterclockwise.
The tool described has an improved, adjustable control device for an impact screwdriver, in which at a predetermined resistance was against rotation of the workpiece, the rebound of an impact device actuates a control device that rotates with the workpiece a predetermined number of degrees and then the Turns off power to the tool, the tool when it is removed from the workpiece, automatically resets itself for the next similar operation.
The tool described enables a turning and striking a fastener in a seat position with any predetermined torque. After this initial torque is achieved, the rebound of the impact device actuates a clutch control device, allowing additional preselected rotation of the fastener. This is known as the so-called turn-of-the-nut process. When this additional rotation has been carried out, the control device automatically switches off the supply of work medium to the tool.
Then, when the tool is removed from the workpiece, the control device automatically resets itself for the next similar operation.
By means of the described control device for an impact wrench, a preselected start Licher torque range can be set for a workpiece, whereupon the final tightening of the workpiece can be selected by rotating from 0 to about 360 degrees or more.
The illustrated motor-operated tool has an impact wrench operated by a pressure medium with a control device, with an elastic coupling device, which in turn is set in motion by a predetermined rebound of the impact member of the impact device, whereby a workpiece is then attracted to a predetermined angular speed.
Devices are also provided which are responsive to angular movement to turn off the power to the tool and means to reset the control device when the tool is removed from the workpiece so that another similar operation can be repeated.
The motor-driven tool works as an impact wrench with a control device that enables the use of a turn-of-the-nut process to turn a workpiece in the forward direction by a certain number of angular degrees, and this ve- hicle gives full power in a reverse direction of rotation.
