Bar for connecting overlapping ends and method for their production The present invention relates to a bar for connecting overlapping ends, in particular of air duct section walls, with layers for the bil of fillets intended to receive the ends and a method for their production.
For the connection of sections of Luftleitun conditions of heaters or other air conditioning systems, a variety of connecting strips has been proposed to the wor. Such a connecting strip has an S-profile with a single protruding rib on one of the outer layers. When connecting two lines cut the bar on the attached line cut by means of the slot formed between the middle layer and the rib-free layer is attached to the edge. Then the end of the second, freely floating line section to be connected is inserted into the slot formed between the middle layer and the layer provided with the rib. This is done in such a way that the rib comes into contact with the metal at the end of the line section that is not held.
This bar is therefore not reversible, and if you try to use it the other way round, then either the cable cross-section is reduced by the rib and thus possibly clogged, or the not yet fastened pipe section is not sufficiently held and fastened while a worker does this other, distant end holds. This would mean that another helper would have to be called in for assembly.
Such known connecting strips are usually not airtight and the manufacturing processes for these strips are often expensive because of the numerous process steps and the material used.
The aim of the present invention is to create a strip for connecting overlapping ends, in particular of air duct section walls, which allows the known disadvantages to be avoided and can be produced with simple means.
The bar according to the invention is characterized in that there are at least two reinforcements of the bar, each in one piece with at least one of the layers. On the other hand, the method for producing the strip according to the invention is characterized in that a preliminary profile is folded from a strip of material and the strip is then completed.
The following description discusses exemplary preferred embodiments of the subject invention with reference to the figures of the drawing.
Fig. 1 is a three-dimensional view of the connection between two sections of an air duct by means of a connecting strip according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a detailed view of a cross section of the connecting strip according to FIG. 1 and shows in particular the arrangement of an elastomer in the form of a seal and of putty.
Fig. 3 shows a connection strip in a partially completed form and shows an elastomer in the form of cement which is arranged between the layers of the connection strip.
Fig. 4 shows an embodiment of the connecting bar according to the invention, in which the elastomer is used in the form of a seal.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of a connecting strip according to Figs. 1 and 2 for connecting two sections of an air duct.
The connecting strip described is used when connecting the ends of two sections of a Luftlei device for warm or cold air. One section of the line is held by a suitable frame, while the end of the other, possibly free-floating section is connected to the first by means of the connecting strip.
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the connecting bar 11 provides the connection between the ends of two preferably galvanized lines 12, 13. The connecting bar has a main body formed from a galvanized metal strip. This main body 14 is shaped so that it has a first, second and third layer which are parallel to one another and protrude from one another. These three layers are labeled 16, 17 and 18. The layers 16, 17 are connected to one another at 19 and the layers 17, 18 are connected to one another at 20. The connection in FIGS. 19 and 20 is each formed by a kink in the main body 14.
The edges of the main body 14 are beaded outward in FIGS. 21 and 22 for safety reasons, so that one cannot cut oneself on the sharp metal edges. These flanged edges also make it easier to put down the connecting strip. This also gives it greater rigidity.
In the joints formed by the layers 16, 17 and 18, a rubber seal 30 and a putty 23 is preferably hen at the connection points 19, 20 vorgese. When connecting two air lines through the connecting strip, this creates an airtight seal. The seal and the putty are only one example of the elastomers that can be used in the connecting strip. The elastomeric material can have any desired shape as long as it can be appropriately inserted into the main body 14 for effective sealing.
The elastomer is preferably fire-resistant and heat-resistant and permanent over a long period of time with regard to changes in viscosity and plasticity. It can have a color that matches the galvanized metal or it can be black. The elastomers are preferably made in such a way that they remain soft for three or six months at temperatures from -29 C to +38 C and that they are fireproof by adding fire retardants or by their own properties and have an aluminum color that matches the Color of the lines to be connected.
Preferably the elastomer is synthetic or natural rubber, e.g. a rubber, heoprene, or resin seal. Rubber is understood to mean both synthetic and natural rubber.
In the connecting strip 24 shown in FIG. 3, only cement 23 and not a seal is used between the individual layers 16, 17, 18.
The connecting strip according to the invention can be formed from a metal strip, the elastomer being incorporated into the strip during the formation of the connecting strip. The metal band can e.g. folded in the longitudinal direction and the elastomer at the connec tion points 19, 20 are injected. The connecting strip can then be further formed by further shaping processes. The rivet for producing the connecting strip is preferably cold-formable.
According to a preferred method for producing the connecting strips described in more detail above, a strip from which the strip is to be formed is guided in a process step known for this type of strips in the longitudinal direction through a set of mold jaws. The mold jaws have a shape that is suitable for performing the shape described above. In this process, for the purpose of a reasonably fast production, all folds are started approximately at the same time and then partially folded further.
All folds, except for the fold 19 or at the upper end of the rib 33 (FIG. 5), are then completed. At this point in the process, i. if the fold 19 has been partially left open, a region of the connecting strip has a U-shape, which is formed by the layer 16 and the two legs 32, 33, the rib 33 through the fold 19 with the layers 17 and 18 are connected.
If the upper end of the upwardly protruding rib 33 has been left open, the strip has a U-shape at this point, formed from the leg 32, the layer 16 and the part of the leg 33 that extends from the layer 16 protrudes above (Fig. 5).
This U-shaped part is connected via the open fold at the upper end of the leg 33 to an L-shaped profile which is formed from the outer wall of the leg 33, the essentially right-angled fold 19, the layers 17 and 18 and the fold 20. In both cases, the open fold is then further shaped in such a way that the shape shown in FIG. 5 is achieved. Preferably, the folds 19 and 20 are then partially opened and closed again in order to make the metal free of tension at these points.
This is advantageous because it prevents these folds from opening when the connecting strip is cut to a desired length. If putty is used, it can be injected while the bar is being opened to remove any tension.
During the manufacture of the connecting strip, it can be cut by means of a suitable cutting device into pieces of such length that are suitable for processing or sale. As a result of this cutting, the connecting strip does not spring open at its ends, since the metal has been made tension-free at the folds.
In Figure 4, the arrangement of a seal 30 is shown, which can be used alone or in conjunction with putty. The seal has a normally cylindrical cross-section and a slightly larger diameter than the fold 19 or 20 in which it is inserted, so that when the layers 16, 17, 18 are placed on top of one another to form the bar, this seal 30 is compressed and is almost elliptical Assumes cross-sectional shape (Fig. 5).
The connecting strip shown in section in FIG. 5 is similar to that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. The connec tion strip 31 comprises two upwardly protruding legs 32, 33, with the leg 32 adjoining the free side of the layer 16, while the leg 33 is formed between the layer 16 and the layer 17. The two legs 32, 33 extend in the longitudinal direction of the connecting strip and prevent it from being bent in the longitudinal direction.
The connecting strip 31 is ready for connec tion of the two ends of the air lines 12, 13 Darge provides. For this purpose, the end 12 is inserted between the layers 16. 17 and pushed in as far as ----. that it deforms the seal 30. In a similar way, the end 13 is inserted between the layers 17, 18 and pressed in so far that it deforms the seal 30 or at least is in contact with it. Pre-punched or pre-drilled holes 37 can be provided in the layers 16, 17, 18 and in the ends 12, 13.
The bores in the lines 12, 13 are preferably slightly smaller than the bores in the layers 16, 17, 18, so that a metal screw sitting loosely in the bores of the layers connects the ends 12, 13 firmly to one another. The connecting strip creates an airtight seal.
As shown in Fig. 1, the connection bar according to the invention can also be used on the underside of an air duct to connect the ends of two sections, i. it is reversible. As shown in FIG. 1, the section 12 of the air duct is supported by a bracket 40 which is fastened to the ceiling, wall or other part of a building by means of rivets or similar means 42. The applied connecting strip forms a stiffening element which is formed from the legs 32, 33 and the layer 16 connecting them. The connecting strip arranged on the top and bottom of the air line also serves as a seal thanks to the legs.
Stiffening and holding the connection. The stiffness of the connecting strip is particularly important when installing a system because the section 12 first e.g. is held by a bracket 40, while the connecting strip is attached to the upper and lower edge and then the section 13 is inserted into the bar to connect the two Abschnit te. The connecting strips serve as supports for the unsupported section 13.
As shown in FIG. 5, the legs 32, 33 can be provided with additional reinforcements 45. These reinforcements 45 can be formed from a strip-shaped material of the same thickness as the material of the bar and have a shape corresponding to the legs 32, 33. They can be slipped onto the legs 32, 33 in the manner of a clasp. The plugged-on reinforcements 45 can be fastened to the legs by means of screws 46 through corresponding bores in the reinforcements and the legs. These reinforcements 45 make it possible to make the connecting strip stiffer without having to make the legs higher.
The lower legs reinforced in this way can be used even better for connection than connecting strips with higher legs if the head space is limited.
The reinforcements 45 shown have a U-shape which adapts exactly to the outer shape of the legs. However, it is also possible that the radius of the U-curvature is preferably larger. In this case, the curvature is under tension, so that greater frictional engagement with the legs is ensured, in particular at the slot formed by the legs of the U-shaped reinforcement.
The putty, the seal or any other sealing material that is used in conjunction with the strip described is preferably used at the same time as a vibration damper between the connected air duct sections. As a result, the seal absorbs the sound vibrations caused by the rapid air movement in the lines.
The connection strip described ensures an airtight seal at the respective connection point and is therefore suitable for high and / or low pressure.
