Test device for the determination of mechanical characteristics
of a concrete subjected to a thermal gradient
The present invention relates to a device for testing a concrete slab-test piece, with a view to determining the mechanical characteristics of this material, in particular when it is subjected to a given thermal gradient.
It is in fact known that knowledge of such mechanical characteristics is particularly important for certain nuclear applications where suitable thicknesses of concrete are used in order in particular to provide protection against radioactive radiation.
This is the case in particular of nuclear reactors whose core or active part is arranged inside a prestressed concrete box, that is to say in a construction whose inner walls may be subjected to heating. significant while their outer walls remain at room temperature.
The object of the invention is to allow, with the aid of a simple and robust apparatus, relatively precise measurements on test-slabs, the latter possibly being of ordinary concrete or of prestressed concrete.
This device is characterized in that it comprises a rigid base supporting two fixed supports on which rests a test-specimen slab of the concrete to be tested, heating members arranged on one side of the slab and an air circulation duct to temperature controlled in contact with the other face, at least one hydraulic cylinder loading the slab to compensate for its deflection resulting from the thermal gradient established between its faces and at least one probe in contact with the test-specimen slab to measure the value of this deflection and ensure control of the cylinder.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the specimen slab is arranged horizontally, the heating members being on its upper face, while the measuring probes are in contact with its underside, other probes also being distributed. under the specimen to measure the local deformations thereof. All the probes rest on a reference table, linked to the two support supports of the test piece and kept in a perfectly horizontal position. In addition, thermocouples are provided against the specimen slab to perform continuous temperature registration.
Preferably, the heating members are formed by metal plates supplied by an electrical circuit and covered with thermal insulation, so as to standardize the heating temperature on the corresponding face of the test piece. Finally, the bodies of the jacks loading the specimen slab are fixed to a reaction beam, integral with the rigid base and act on the specimen slab by means of load distributors.
The appended drawing illustrates in a single figure, which is a schematic view in vertical section, a particular embodiment of the subject of the invention.
The device comprises a base 1, preferably of concrete, which rests on a horizontal ground 2 and comprises two supports such as 3 and 4 intended to support a test piece or slab 5 made of the concrete to be tested.
This slab can be in reinforced concrete or in prestressed concrete. In the latter case it comprises at least one prestressing cable 6 passing right through the slab and fixed by fastening systems 7 and 8 at one and the other of its ends on two beams 9 and 10 intended allow the cable to be tensioned 6.
At its upper part, the slab 5 comprises a series of metal plates 11 connected to electrical supply means (not shown) to ensure the heating of the corresponding face of the slab. These plates are surrounded by a heat-insulating material 12 making it possible to standardize its temperature. At its lower part, the slab 5 is provided with a sheath 13 in which is established an air stream at an adjustable temperature, this air stream coming to lick its underside. A table 14 supported by the slab by the supports 3 and 4 by means of two arms 15 and 16, the upper plate 17 of this table being kept perfectly horizontal. On this plate is disposed, substantially in the middle of the slab 5, a main feeler 19 intended to permanently measure the deflection taken under the effect of the thermal gradient established between the upper face and the lower face of the slab.
In addition, this feeler 19 ensures automatic regulation of the hydraulic pressure admitted inside the body of two jacks 20 and 21 loading the slab at its upper part. For this purpose, these jacks are supported by a transverse beam 22 resting on the fixed base 1 and anchored to the latter by fasteners 23. The jacks are provided with pipes 24 ensuring their supply from a hydraulic source (not shown). controlled by the feeler 19. The rods 25 and 26 of the two jacks 20 and 21 then exert by means of members 27 and 28, ensuring a suitable distribution of the loads, an action on the upper face of the slab 5, this action jacks being such as to allow compensation for the deflection taken by the slab under the effect of the thermal gradient established between its upper face and its lower face.
On the plate 17 of the table 14 are also arranged other feelers 29 or secondary feelers, regularly distributed around the main feeler 19, these secondary feelers being intended to measure the local deformations of the slab during the test. Finally, thermocouples (not shown) make it possible to monitor the temperature at various points on the slab.
