Apparatus for electric space heating The present invention relates to an apparatus for electric space heating.
Hitherto, it has been known, with a view to heating premises, the transformation of electrical energy into thermal energy by the flow of electrical currents in elements of relatively low conductivity, that is to say in resistors, which heat up and give in to the environment the heat thus produced.
This first known type of apparatus consists either of metallic wires wound in the form of a helix, these wires being carried incandescent, or by thin bands or plates, which most often are carried to relatively low temperatures, etc.
Another known type of apparatus is that in which use is made of the magnetism produced by the flow of a current in a conductor, by which, in this conductor, by inductive effect, part of the electrical energy is transformed into thermal energy.
Such an apparatus is substantially constituted by a winding connected to a suitable current source and, inside thereof, a tubular element, in which is disposed a solid core such that between said tube and said core There remains a space through which a fluid to be heated can flow.
Such devices must necessarily be placed in communication, by conduits, with thermal heat exchangers or radiators, so as to constitute, with said heating device, a closed circuit.
If the aforementioned first type of apparatus making use of resistance presents, as a main disadvantage, the characteristic of being able to ensure only strictly local heating as well as the fact that the cost price of such a heating means is very high, the electrical appliances of the aforementioned second type have the main drawback of always having to be provided with an additional relatively bulky installation, such as radiators, pipes or similar devices.
In addition, the latter type of heating apparatus has the additional disadvantage of being, most often, immobile, to which is added the fact that, if it is a question of heating a reasonable number of rooms or premises , it is necessary to provide at least one pump in the circuit.
The present invention relates to an apparatus for the electric heating of premises, characterized in that it is constituted by at least one hollow core and by at least one winding surrounding said hollow core, the core being heated by induction while the winding is heated by resistance, the whole being arranged so that the air located on the one hand between the turns of the winding, and on the other hand inside said hollow core is heated.
In this way it is possible to produce devices of great simplicity, capable of being placed at any desired location and in which it is the ambient air itself, located in the room, which is heated passing through the apparatus, and this by the simple fact that the heated air rises so as to make room, in a continuous manner, for the cold air which passes and, during its passage through the aforesaid apparatus, is heated in turn, etc.
In addition, this device is of a very simple construction, relatively very economical, not very bulky, capable of operating at high efficiency and always ready for almost instant use; by connecting such a device, direct heating of the ambient air in the room in which one is located is ensured, and this without causing local radiation of heat.
Thus it is possible to produce devices capable of being moved from one place to another.
By way of example, an embodiment of the invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which FIG. 1 is a vertical sectional view of a heating apparatus according to the invention.
Fig. 2 represents, on an enlarged scale, the part indicated by F2 in FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 shows a plan view of the apparatus of FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 shows, on an enlarged scale, a view in partial section along the line IV-IV of FIG. 3.
Fig. 5 shows, in vertical section, a heating installation in which heating devices according to the invention are used.
In one embodiment, the heating apparatus is substantially constituted by a hollow core 1, formed for example by a steel tube, and around said hollow core 1, a winding 2, the latter being produced, with a view to limit the height of the device, in three superimposed layers.
In order to keep the successive turns of the rolling bearing 2 at equal distances, that is to say in order to insulate them judiciously from one another, provision has been made, for example at four different locations distributed on the periphery, vertical supports, respectively 3-4-5 and 6, these being provided with appropriate recesses 7, adapted to the diameter of the wire used for making said winding 2. Elements 3 to 6 are juxtaposed a second isolation element 8-9-10-11 respectively, provided on both sides with spiral or helical grooves with semi-circular section, respectively l2-13, these also being adapted to the pitch of winding 2.
Next to these last elements we finally arranged other similar elements, respectively 14-15-16-17 and 18-19-20-21, the elements 14 to 17 being quite similar to the elements 8 to 11, while elements 18 to 21 are similar to elements 3 to 6, obviously taking into account the diameters of the different turns.
In order to achieve these insulating elements 3 to 21, it is necessary to start from a tube of corresponding diameter, in which a spiral is hollowed out which corresponds to the rolling bearing to be supported. Then, the tube thus produced is cut into a predetermined number of longitudinal parts, so that these parts can be used for the production of several heating devices as described above.
It is obvious that such a heater will be mounted on a suitable support, and completed or not with a screen or other similar protection surrounding said winding in order to eliminate any risk.
The use and operation of the apparatus described are very simple, as follows It is sufficient to simply plug the apparatus thus constituted into a suitable socket, in order to let the current flow in said winding 2 so that the latter is heated by resistance and the hollow metal core is heated by induction, so as to heat in turn the air which is located, on the one hand, between the winding 2 and the hollow core 1, and on the other hand in the hollow core 1, said air thus being caused to rise, leaving its place for the cold air which is in turn heated, etc. Thus, in a very simple way, an apparatus is produced which automatically circulates air in a heating chamber for the circulating air.
In order to adapt the apparatus described with a view to its application in rooms of large dimensions and the like, such apparatus as shown schematically in FIG. 5, will be placed in a suitable envelope 22 above provided with a perforated cover 23.
Necessarily the envelope 22 will be placed on legs 24 in order to leave a free space between the floor and the bottom 25 of said envelope. In this case the hollow cores 1 constituted by steel tubes will be judiciously fixed on said bottom 25 and this in such a way that at the level of said tubes, said bottom has openings 26 in order to allow air to pass through them. tubes 1. Preferably said bottom 25 will also be made of a perforated material, so as to be able to take advantage of the additional heating of the air circulating between the turns of the winding 2. For this purpose, in FIG. 5, said bottom 25 has openings 27.
In order to increase the efficiency of the device as much as possible, the tube 1 will preferably be made of a very hard steel alloy, while the rolling 2 will be made of ferronickel wire.
