Inversement, si le mi lange des fluides qui baigne le bimétal est trop froic le bimétal thermostatique subit une autre déformatio contraire à la précédente et entraîne le tiroir (53) ve: la droite, obturant proportionnellement l'ajutage (11b) i dégageant l'orifice (12b), le ressort (100) facilitant p@ compression les déplacements du mécanisme démont;
Thermostatic mixer for regulating the flow rate and the temperature of a mixture of fluids The present invention relates to a mermostatic mixer automatically maintaining the temperature of two fluids and regulating the flow rate by preliminary maneuvering downstream of the mixing chamber.
com taking a removable mechanism with thermostatic bimetal. fitted with an intake and shutter slide and a compression spring, all located between the inlets of the two fluids, controlled by the bimetal,:
t from the outside to regulate the arrival of fluids in a chamber included in the box with lateral supply pipes, characterized in that the two inlet pipes join in parallel on the same plane and inside of the mixer and are controlled simultaneously and each by an independent shutter member, each comprising a sliding valve which can be placed on two seats and simultaneously regulating the flow rate of the two fluids, controlled by means of a member with two branches, the movement of which is perpendicular to the housing and of a mobile and common operating device,
the case being hermetically closed on the visible and outer side of the circular wall using a cover.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention and a variant.
The fia. 1 is a front cross-sectional view of the embodiment of the thermostatic mixer, shown without its covers and without the control handles.
The fia. 2 is a median and vertical section of the same embodiment with its cover, along the axis A-A of the fia. 1.

The fia. 4 is a partial and longitudinal section (along the axis C-C of FIG. 1) of the flow control member, as well as of the supply pipe for one of the two fluids.
The fia. 5 is a top view of the same embodiment with its lids and the flow and temperature control devices, in section along the axes A-D-D for the right part and E-E for the left part of FIG. 1.
The fia. 6 is a front view of a variant of the thermostatic mechanism which can be dismantled in a block, the left half of which is in cross section and the right half in full front view.
The embodiment shown in fia. 1 to 5 is a thermostatic mixer for two fluids, one hot, the other cold, provided with a thermostat mechanism, valves and spring. and removable from the outside. With reference to these figures; the mixer comprises a housing (10) with supply pipes (11 and 12) and distribution pipe (29), forming a body with the bottom (13) and a circular wall (14).
The tubing (11) is extended at (11a) inside the housing (10) and incorporated into the bottom (13) to be located parallel and at the same level next to the tubing (12a) and so that the two flow rates are simultaneously controlled by the handle (15). Each of these pipes (11a and 12a) open at point (11c) and (12c) on the same axis at the same height and on either side of the removable mechanism (16).
These tubes form an integral part of the housing (cast with itself), or can then be attached inside the housing (10) on the bottom (13), by mechanical or thermal means, a combination of these two, or other.
So that the mechanism which can be dismantled into a block (16) and the compression spring (100) can be moved easily and oscillate without hindrance between the two tubes (11b and 12b), an offset (80) of the tubes has been provided. (11b and 12b) from the bottom (13). thus allowing a simple operation, without hindrance and a very easy accessibility of the removable mechanism (fia. 4). Incorporated into the same body (10) and the same base (13), a jumper (17) is provided, intended to receive the thermostatic table demon mechanism (16) and a bowl (18) where the shaft must be housed. cam (19).
Included between the bottom (13) and the walls of the piping (I la) on the right and (11b) on the left, are provided two tables (20 and 21), each provided with a thread (22 and 23), where The screws (24 and 25) will be screwed, which must hold the cover (26), the latter resting on the circular rim (14). Part of the bottom (13), there is also a threaded thickening (27), into which the pin (28) must be screwed.
Adjoining the bottom (13) and forming part of the supply tubes (1 I a and 11b), are the obturators (29 and 30) used to adjust the flow rate of the fluids, or their stopping.
Intended for the hermetic closing of the cover (26) on the housing (10), a peripheral groove (31) is provided, where an O-ring (32) would be housed to ensure the seal between the cover and the housing. In the cover (26) two holes (33 and 34) were made, where the bolts (25 and 25a) would be housed, to screw into the threads (22 and 23) ) tables (20 and 21) and ensure by clamping with the O-ring (32) the seal between the cover (26) and the housing (10).
In order to ensure on the other hand the tightness of the inters tice between the hole (33) and the screw (25). the latter has been provided at its head with a peripheral groove (35), which houses an O-ring (36). The hole (33) and the bolt (25a) in the cover are due to the cut, invisible, but their equal function therefore applies to the table (20) and the thread (22).
Incorporated and on the outside of the same cover (26), two cylindrical and tubular shoulders (37 and 38) have been provided for respectively receiving the cam control shaft (19) and the central screw (39). , the support plates (-10), serving to receive the gasket packing (41), which can be tightened with the gland (42). In the same cover (26) are made the threads (43 and 44), to serve for the rotation of the parts (19 and 39).
At both ends of the cover (26), two threaded and blind holes (45 and 46) have been made, where the screws (47 and 48) will be housed, which will support the cover-all trim cover (49).
With reference to fi- '1, 2, 5, we will describe the mechanism removable in a block (16), which consists of a bimetal (50), formed of two branches (51 and 52), their top end is flattened, leaving a slight gap between them and then folded to approximately <B> 900 </B>. The longest of the branches (52) receives at its lower end, provided with a hole, an assembly consisting of a drawer (53) in a single U-shaped piece and symmetrically along the axis A-A. In the center of this drawer, a hole (54) has been provided to pass a screw (55), which would be housed in a nut (56), located on the opposite side.
A semi-spherical hollow (55a and 56a) has been arranged on the outer periphery of the screw and the nut, where an O-ring with a circular section (57a) is housed, which would fit between the hollow of the screw ( 57 and 56) and the also circular and semi-spherical hollow (58a and 58b) of the drawer (53), thus forming a circular crown around the entire periphery of both sides of the drawer.
From this position, the O-ring forms a protruding shoulder on the level of both sides of the drawer (53) and will serve to seal or admit the fluids of the pipes (11c and 12c) in the proportions determined by the thermostatic element (50) on the one hand and by the compression spring (100). which is located between the drawer (53) and the supply pipe (12b), resting on the latter and on the shoulder (60), on the other hand. Between the branch of the Bimetal (52) and the drawer (53), a washer-spring (59) takes place, which will ensure the tension between the screws (55 and 56) and thus prevent. as a result of the dynamic velocity of fluids. the two parts come to loosen or go wrong.
Its role is also that of maintaining the constant spacing of the width of the drawer at the foot of the removable mechanism and thereby ensuring, as an axial means. the strength of said mechanism.
The sensitive element of the mixer is a thermostatic bimetal (50), which is an integral part of the mechanism which can be dismantled in a block (16). Its bent head is housed inside the rider (17) and the bimetal is thus suspended freely and thus made up of two branches which are slightly parallel to each other and to the bottom of the case. The longest branch (52) is connected to the mechanism located between the inlets (11b and 12b). The shorter branch of the bimetal (51) only touches the cam (61) on one side and together they will determine the temperature setting.
With reference to fig. 1, 2. 3, 4, 5, the part of the mechanism for adjusting the simultaneous flow rates will be described. either the two single-lever taps. The inlet channels for two fluids (11a and 12a) lead to the two taps (62 and 63). Each of these organs carries an interchangeable seat (64 and 65), screwed into the body (62 and 63). On these seats rest (in a state of iron meture) the two parallel branches (67 and 68) of the central screw (66) in the shape of an inverted U, which each have at their lower end a valve (69 and 70). provided with a flexible material seal (69a and 70a).
To ensure the tightness of the two branches (67 and 68) of the central screw (66), the bodies (62 and 63) have been fitted with a cable gland (71 and 72) each provided with inside a groove, used to hold an O-ring (73 and 74).
The seal between the bodies (62 and 63) and the cable glands (71 and 72) is guaranteed by a flat gasket (75 and 76), clamped between these two parts. Between. between these two flow rate regulators, and incorporated in the bottom (13), there is a threaded thickening (27), where the pin (28) is screwed, which supports the return spring (77), used to facilitate the mounting of the central screw (66), when opening the seats (64 and 65) by moving the valves (69 and 70) and by operating the flat (78), from which the central screw ends (39), secured to the handle (15) by the screw (79).
With reference to <U> fi- </U>. 1, 2 and 5, the part of the device for the adjustment and the calibration correction of the temperature will now be described. This part of the positive device consists of a cylindrical shaft (19). por both jointly and severally near one of its ends. the cam (61). The shaft is rotating and is supported on the one hand. on the thread that it passes through (43) of the cover (26) and on the other hand. by the head (19a), housed in the bowl (19), which is incorporated into the bottom of the housing (13). In order to ensure the balanced rotation of the portion (19a) of the shaft (19), two rings (81) have been introduced into the two grooves provided. These also serve to better support the rotation effected by the entire cam mechanism, in one direction. or in the other.
The sealing and tightening of the cam shaft (19) are provided by the cylindrical and tubular shoulder (37), which receive the parts (40, 41 and 42). The peripheral surface (61a) of the cam (61) is of revolution with the shaft. The cam is eccentric with respect to the center of the shaft, of which it is solid, so that at each position of its rotation it slightly displaces the position of the branch (51) of the bimetal (50), which acts by through the branch (52), on the removable mechanism (16).
This movement ensures the arrival of two fluids and their mixing temperature, according to the graduation indicated by the handle (81), which is manually adjustable and the fixing of which is guaranteed by the screw (79a). The latter is housed in the thread (82a), with which the extension of the camshaft (19) is fitted, which protrudes outside the cover (26).
The value of the angle of rotation, ensuring the opening or closing of the inlets (11b and 12b) from the position of the cam, depends on the graduation sought by means of the handle (81) on the graduated dial ( the latter invisible in the drawing) of the trim cover (49).
There is therefore, thanks to the elliptical of the surface (61a), an automatic proportionality between the rotation of the cam and the displacement of the removable mechanism (16) by means of the branch (51), thus regulating by its sensitivity to the temperature of the desired mixture. depending on the admission of the two fluids.
With reference to fig. 1, 2, 3, and 5, the part of the mixer consisting of the two control handles and the trim cover will be described. The handles (15 and 81) are fixed respectively to the extension of the central screw (39) and of the camshaft (19). which protrude outside the cover (26).
Otherwise. the sockets (83 and 84) integral with the handles and provided with a broaching over their entire length, fit into a corresponding broaching, the parts (39 and 19) of which are also fitted up to the height of the shoulders ( 37 and 38). In the center and in their extensions into the parts (39 and 19), a long female thread (82 and 82a) is provided for each. which ends at the height of the cover (26) and where the screws (79 and 79a) are housed. These pinouts. as well as the threads.
being provided for the interlocking of the handles and their wise screwing, even in the event that it is necessary to cut them out of a certain portion. for a possible adjustment, when assembling the mixer.
The handles (15 and 81) each have a recess (15a and 81a), to conceal and shelter the shoulders (49a and 49b) of the cover (49) and the cylindrical shoulders (37 and 38) respectively. cover (26). The handle (81) differs from the handle (15) by the shape of its base, which is provided with a wide foot (81c), which itself comprises on its internal face a circular groove (81d), on almost all its circumference and serving in its rotary movement to allow free passage in certain positions, to the stop screw (85).
clamped in a circular notch (89), between the cover (-19) and the nut (86). Said foot is provided on its upper face with an index, which must be placed opposite the graduated dial. fixed in the cover (49), to be used at the choice of temperature.
The trim cover-all cover is provided with two cylindrical and tubular shoulders (49a and 49b), a circumferential cutout (87) of about 250 and an outer, (not visible on the sections) and peripheral circumference, slightly rounded.
To fix the cover (49) on the cover (26), two holes with circular plate (87 and 88) have been provided in it, respectively crossed by the screws (47 and 48), screwing into the threaded and blind holes (45 and 46) and whose transverse slot flat heads rest on said circular plate, thus securely retaining the trim cover (49).
The operation of the thermostatic mixer is as follows: The tubing (11) is connected to a source of cold fluid and the tubing (12) is connected to a source of hot fluid, both ending in the closure members (29 and 30). When handling the handle (15), the valves (69 and 70) are thus released, thus leaving free passage for the two fluids which will end in the calibrated orifices (11b and 12b). The; Fluid flow rates (or their stopping) are therefore obtained before their arrival in the mixing chamber, inside the housing (10).
Moreover, the desired temperature is adjusted using the handle (81), by rotating the index of this handle, in accordance with the graduated dial di cover (49). During this rotation, there is simultaneous translation of the cam (61).
The surface (61a of this cam will move the branch (51) of the bimé such (50) and, consequently, will ensure the displacement of the branch (52), which acts on the slide (53), c displacement being function first of the temgératur, chosen.
If we assume that the desired temperature is of the order of 401, C and that the mixture is delivered at this temperature, the two fluids will flow on either side of the removable mechanism, which must be in a position intermediate opening between the pipes (1 lb and 12b). This mixture bathing the thermc stat (50), exits through the channel (29).
If, on the other hand, the mixture of fluids which bathes the bimetal is too hot, it will undergo a deformation, causing the slide (53) to the nozzle (12b), which would thus undergo a proposed sealing and simultaneously the nozzle (11b) would therefore be disengaged, causing an equal proportional admission of cold fluid.
Conversely, if the mixture of fluids which bathes the bimetal is too cold, the thermostatic bimetal undergoes another deformation contrary to the previous one and drives the spool (53) ve: the right, proportionally closing off the nozzle (11b) i releasing the orifice (12b), the spring (100) facilitating p @ compression the displacements of the dismantled mechanism;
wheat one way or the other. If the chic sie temperature corresponds to that of the hottest fluid, the cary will move the removable mechanism, closing off the slide (53) and by means of the gaskets (57a and the spring (100) hermetically the nozzle (11b). If on the other hand the desired temperature corresponds to that of the fluid, the cold fold.
the cam will move the removable closing mechanism by means of the slide (53) and by means of the seals (5 hermetically the nozzle (12a), the spring (100) at the moment being compressed.
The action temperature of the bimetal depends on the temperature of the mixture chosen and therefore the position of the cam resting on the bimetal. When fired from this position, the bimetal will print an oscillatory softness, bringing with it the slide (53) in one direction or the other. It is by these very rapid reaction movements that the previously selected temperature is automatically maintained.
To change this temperature, it is necessary to turn the handle (81), in relation to the graduated cadi of the cover (49), and that will move the thermostatic bimetal through the cam (61).
The calibration correction of the thermostatic mixer is carried out as follows. The index of the foot (81c) of the handle (81) is to be placed in front of the desired graduation on the graduated dial of the cover (49).
If the fluid leaving the mixer is at a temperature different from that indicated by the index, the handle (81) must be removed, without turning it, to then replace it so that its index is in line with the degree of dial. corresponding to the graduation of the delivered fluid. The calibration is thus finished. To remove the mixer, turn the handle (81) towards the highest graduation and unscrew the screws (79 and 79a), to release the handles (15 and 81). The screws (47 and 48) are then unscrewed to release the cover of ,, arniture (49).
To remove the cover (26), it is necessary to unscrew the bolts (25 and 35). At this stage, the mechanism can be dismantled into a block (16). can be extracted by compressing the spring (100) and pulling the bimetal (50) out of the jumper (17). For assembly, proceed in reverse order.
To limit the temperature of the fluid in the mixer. to a given degree. the screw (85) is moved in the circular size (39) of the cover (49) in order to then tighten it by means of its nut (86). opposite the degree given in the graduated dial. Circular barley (Sld) has a solid part, without a cavity. which will abut against the screw (85), preventing the translational movement of the foot (81c) and thereby guaranteeing that the given temperature is not exceeded.
The thermostatic mixer described. guarantees by its simple construction, by its easy installation and its very practical maintenance, an excellent regulation of the flow rate and the temperature of the mixture, as well as the limits of this temperature and of the flowed fluid.
In fig. 6 shows a variant (116) of the thermostatic mechanism removable in a block (16), in which has been added to the drawer (53) (shown in the intermediate position) with all its elements and on either side of the drawer. a cylindrical valve (101 and 102). themselves provided over their entire circumference with a shoulder (103 and 104).
In order to guarantee the solidity of the block and consequently the assembly of the two valves (102 and 101) with the spool (53), a compression spring (105) with vertical working turns is provided, the end turns of which are entirely closed. are folded 90 'horizontally. These last turns each receive at their center a fixing screw (106), (; e screwing on the shoulder (104) (and 103 respectively).
These screwed turns will be used to hold the spring (105) on either side of the removable element, thus ensuring the autonomy of the entire element. valves included. The perfect positioning of the element between the supply pipes (11 and 12) of the two fluids is obtained by the extension force of the compression spring (105). These pipes are provided with the same offset (80) of the bottom (13) of the housing (10). like before. A second spring equal to the spring (105) is provided on the rear face and at the same height and on the same axis.
Each of the valves (101 and 102) has the following description inside: a flexible material filter seal in the form of a funnel (107), provided with several holes. This seal ensures at its upper part the seal between the pipe (12) and the circular groove (103a) and the shoulder (103). At its lower part. specially designed in the form of a hollow cylinder. it receives the stem of a non-return valve (108) of corresponding shape.
The conical part of the valve is provided with an O-ring (109), which will be used to prevent the tightness in the event of fluid return, by closing on the internal circular groove (110) of the valve (101) . At the upper base of the non-return valve. a cavity (111) has been formed, intended to receive a compression spring (112), resting on the cavity (111) on the one hand and on the screw (55) of the drawer (53) on the other go.
It will be noted in this fig. 6 the symmetry of the element which can be dismantled into a block, along axes AA and CC, with the exception of the spring washer (59) and the compression spring (100), each belonging only and respectively to the part right and left of said autonomous element.
Operation is equal to the previous one. The temperature adjustment, as well as all the components are identical, with the exception of that of the flow rate adjustment, which can be abandoned in this example, if necessary, as well as the extension of the tubes (11a and 11b ), inside the housing (13a), the tubes (11 and 12) being fully sufficient.
