Automatic device for measuring and recording the degree of twist of a wire
The present invention relates to an automatic apparatus for measuring and recording the degree of twist of a yarn, according to the claim of the main patent, that is to say comprising a clamp movable in the direction of movement of the yarn, a clamp rotating but fixed in the direction of movement of the wire, and means for measuring the number of turns of the rotary gripper for which a section of wire, delimited by the two grippers, after being lengthened by untwisting, resumes its initial length by torsion in the opposite direction, this device operating uninterruptedly on successive sections of a continuous wire, unwinding from one spool to unwind onto another, and comprising automatic means for bringing each section of wire between the two grippers , for
Immobilize it in these clamps,
to perform the untwist-torsion operation with measurement and recording of the number of turns of the rotary gripper, to allow the shortening due to the over-twist applied to the section of wire located beyond the section subjected to the measurement, and to bring back the section subjected to the test and the downstream section in their initial state of torsion before advancing the wire to bring the next section between the grippers.
The device, the characteristics of which have just been recalled, and which is the subject of the main patent, can be substantially improved in order to give it significant additional advantages and, in particular, a reduction in size, simplification of the construction, more precise and assured operation, a more practical form of recording the numbers of revolutions.
The object of the present invention is to achieve these improvements.
For this, the apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that the means arranged downstream of the rotary gripper for stopping the propagation of the over-twist of the wire beyond its length along the test length and to allow the shortening of the over-twisted length, are constituted by two associated independent mechanical members, the first of these members arranged downstream of the rotary clamp being a stop member of said propagation and the second arranged downstream the first being a member allowing said shortening.
According to one embodiment, the member for stopping the propagation of the excess twist of the wire may be formed by a pair of free rotating rollers and clamping the wire under the action of an elastic element.
The member allowing the shortening of the length of wire according to the test length, may consist of a pendulum member comprising a lever pivoting about a fixed axis, a free pulley carried by this lever and over which the wire passes and adjustable weights to partially balance the pendulum and exert the desired tension on the wire.
The following description relates to an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention, given by way of example, with reference to the appended drawing, in which the single figure is a schematic view of the apparatus, in elevation.
The apparatus shown comprises a vertical panel 1 supported by a foot 2 with leveling screws.
The panel 1 carries a support 3 holding a reel 4 for unwinding the wire 5 to be subjected to the tests; it carries an adjustable tensioner 6 for the wire, a block 8 being mounted to slide in the direction of the wire 5, that is to say in the direction represented by the double arrow FF ', for example by means of a slide and a screw, not shown in the drawing, to allow this block to be placed in a desired position.
The block 8 carries a shaft 9 on which a lever 10 is pivotally mounted; this lever carries at one of its ends an adjustable weight 1 1 and at its other end a clamp 12 traversed by the wire 5 and a needle 13 opposite a mark 14 integral with the block 8.
On the panel 1 is fixed, downstream of the block 8, the support 15 of a rotary clamp 16 axially traversed by the wire 5; this clamp can be driven in rotation about its axis by known means not shown in the figure.
Downstream of the rotary gripper 16. a pair of rollers
17 is mounted freely in rotation on two shafts respectively secured to the panel 1 and to the end of a lever 18 pivoting about an axis 19 and subjected to the action of an elastic return element 20; the wire 5 passes between these rollers which pinch it.
On the panel 1 is fixed a pendular member designated as a whole by the reference 21; this member comprises a shaft 22 on which is pivotally mounted uti lever 23; this lever carries, at its lower end,
The axis of a free pulley 24 and a needle 25 facing a graduated sector 26 fixed to the panel; the lever also carries a balancing counterweight 27 and a beam 28 provided with an adjustable weight 29.
The wire 5. at its exit from the pair of rollers 17. passes over the pulley 24 and is picked up between two rollers 30a and 30b carried by shafts mounted in the panel 1, one of which. at least. is driven in rotation around its axis to ensure the drive of the wire 5.
On the panel 1 is fixed a member 31 intended to collect the wire as it leaves the drive rollers 30a and 30b: this member has been shown in the drawing in the form of a vacuum cleaner of known type.
The operation of this device is as follows: first of all, it has been shown in a vertical arrangement such that the test length of the wire 5, delimited by the clamps 12 and 16, is vertical, unlike the torsiometers for single wires known that are horizontal.
This arrangement has the following advantages in particular: reduction of the surface area occupied on the ground; elimination of the deflection of the wire which can cause, in horizontal torsiometers, transverse movements of the wire for certain speeds of the rotary gripper; ease of assembly of some of the elements which have just been described and whose role will be defined.
A portion of wire 5 to be tested is brought, by the action of the drive rollers 30a and 30b, between the open clamps 12 and 16; the desired length of this section is determined by the position given to block 8 and by the horizontal position of lever 10.
The tension applied to the wire 5 is regulated, clamps 12 and 16 open, by the combined adjustment of the tensioner 6 of the weight 11 carried by the lever 10 and of the weight 29 of the lever 23.
The clamps 12 and 16 then being closed, the clamp 16 is rotated; the wire section tested untwists completely then twists in the opposite direction; during untwisting, the lever 10 pivots upward due to the lengthening of the test length of the yarn, then pivots downward when the yarn is twisted; when the lever 10 has resumed its horizontal position, an electrical contact causes the stopping of the rotary gripper and the activation of the system for counting-recording the number of revolutions of this gripper.
In the apparatus described in the main patent, there was provided a third movable clamp intended to allow the length of wire located downstream of the test length to withstand without breaking the over-twist which is momentarily applied to it.
In the apparatus shown, the pair of rollers 17 limits the propagation of this over-torsion and the pendulum member 21 allows contraction without breaking the length of wire subjected to the over-torsion.
After counting-recording the number of revolutions of the rotary gripper, this gripper is rotated in the opposite direction by the same number of revolutions, which ensures the return to zero, and the wire is then driven axially for the length test. next.
The various operations of each test are controlled by a programmer such as that described in the main patent.
Various variants can be provided for the arrangements described, and in particular the following
An apparatus arranged vertically has been described above; the various elements described could also be arranged horizontally, by adapting that of these elements to this arrangement.
The programmer described in the main patent could have cams instead of tracks. these cams acting on microcontactors of commercial type according to a technique known per se.
The system for graphic recording of the number of torsion turns can advantageously be replaced by a printing revolution counter of a suitable commercial type; instead of actuating the marking electromagnet described in the main patent, the electrical contact provided by the lever 10, when it returns to its initial position, actuates the printing system of the meter.
However, since this meter printing system can only operate properly when it is stopped, a device for disengaging and locking the meter axis can be added. This device is preferably formed by an electromagnetic powder clutch-locking combination, of commercial type. It is actuated when the contact of the lever 10 is established, and the printing, which is controlled by this same contact, only takes place a very short instant later, a fraction of a second in practice. thanks to the introduction into the printing control circuit of a suitable delay device of commercial type.
The length of advance of the wire on each test must be able to be adjusted independently of the speed of rotation of the programmer, which can be variable, as was stated in the main patent.
This can be obtained, for example, by adding a timer relay, actuated by an additional cam added to the programmer, and which, at the same time as it cuts the current on the programmer motor, supplies the motor which controls the rollers 30a and 30b for advancing the thread.
At the end of the set time, between 1/2 sec and 5 sec, for example, the timer relay stops the scroll motor and restarts the timer motor.
In these conditions. the boss of the timing relay control cam can be very small.
It has been recognized to be advantageous for the grippers to be open a very short time before the scrolling of the wire, and to be closed a very short time after stopping this scrolling. This can be obtained as follows: the cam which controls the opening and closing of the clamps has a boss arranged in such a way that it projects slightly, on either side, the boss of the additional cam controlling the relay timer.
It has also been recognized useful to be able, at will, in particular for the initial passage of the wire and the initial adjustment of the average tension, to open the clamps and to deflect the wire independently of the programmer. As a result, provision has been made to have manual switches on the device making it possible to directly power the gripper control electromagnets and the scroll motor, whatever the position of the programmer.
It has also been recognized useful to interpose on the drive shaft of the programmer a manual release system, of a known type, in order to be able, if necessary, to turn the programmer by hand, for certain preliminary adjustments for example. .
The apparatus is, moreover, advantageously supplemented by a counter of the number of tests carried out. This counter is preferably electrically controlled, the control being carried out at the same time as the printing by the printing counter.
It was indicated in the description above the actuation of an electrical contact by the lever 10 resuming its horizontal position at the end of the twist of the test length; this contact closed at this time in the apparatus described in the main patent; it has been recognized advantageous to substitute for this closure a breaking of the contact by adding the known means to avoid the rupture spark.
