Zusam-
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 8 eine Teilansicht eines Schaltschemas des Ausführungsbeispiels gemäss Fig. 5.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Automatic burner control for a heating system The present invention enables automatic firing for heating systems operated with liquid, gaseous or powdered fuels and is particularly suitable for heating systems in which very explosive fuel-air mixtures are burned.
The tasks of such a machine are the operational monitoring of the combustion process and the switching on and off of the conveying, shut-off and ignition devices belonging to the heating system according to a specific time program. Accordingly, such an automat is composed of a monitoring part with a flame detector and a control part.
When using very explosive fuel-air mixtures, the following requirements are placed on the time program determined by the control unit for the actuation of the conveying, shut-off and ignition devices: Safely remove residues of the fuel-air mixture that have been left behind during operating periods.
2. After the ignition device has been switched on and after the fuel supply has been released, a safety time must be provided during which the fuel may enter the combustion chamber without being burned. At the end of this time, the system should be switched off and locked if the flame did not ignite.
3. If the flame goes out during operation, if the supply network fails or in the event of other malfunctions, the fuel supply must be blocked and the ignition device that may be in operation switched off. The ignition and shut-off device may only be restarted automatically when the combustion chamber has been ventilated again. This behavior of the automatic firing system can be guaranteed at any time. A comparison with the requirements placed on automatic firing systems for heating systems that are operated with less explosive fuel-air mixtures shows three main differences.
With these simpler devices, there is no need for pure pre-ventilation of the combustion chamber. It is also permissible that the fuel supply is not blocked in the event of malfunctions that occur after commissioning. In this case, it is sufficient to switch the ignition device on again immediately. Likewise, in the event of a brief failure of the supply network, the program can be continued normally during certain times and also after the fuel has been released. No new start-up is necessary. The admissibility of this method makes it possible to generate the control program in a simple manner with the aid of heated bimetals.
In the case of known automatic firing systems which have to meet the specified increased safety requirements, this simple method of generating programs encounters difficulties. Immediately after the heating system has been started up, the program-generating bimetal is still in a hot state. Due to its thermal inertia, it takes a certain amount of time to return to its starting position, which corresponds to the start of the switching program. If during this cooling time z. If, for example, the flame goes out or there is a brief power failure, the new start of the system does not begin with the beginning of the program, but with a later non-controllable program status. It can happen that, for.
B. the fuel supply is not blocked or that the ventilation of the combustion chamber does not take place.
For this reason, the structure of the known automatic firing systems for very explosive fuel-air mixtures is considerably more complex than that of automatic systems for lower safety requirements. Most known devices have a shift drum driven by an electric motor for program generation. Together
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
With an additional electromagnetic relay, it is achieved that the program can only be started from its starting position. Instead of the relay, an electromagnetic clutch can also be used, via which separate parts of the shift drum are operated separately.
Automatic machines have also been proposed in which the program sequence is generated with heated bimetals. They work in a similar way to the shift drum devices and, like them, require at least one additional electromagnetic relay. However, they have the disadvantage that the sequence in which the contacts are switched on or off must be adhered to very precisely while the bimetals cool down. However, this requires a complicated and time-consuming adjustment of the contacts and bimetals, since the cooling period of the bimetals cannot be influenced. A mechanical coupling that is only effective during the cooling period has not proven itself in practice.
Attempts have also become known to replace the additional relay circuits in switching drum and bimetallic devices with mechanical arrangements. These arrangements usually have locking functions and work with a plurality of levers and springs. Since the operational safety of machines constructed in this way is unsatisfactory due to the high mechanical complexity, such devices have not been used to date.
The purpose of the present invention is to create an automatic firing system which, in terms of complexity and operational safety, corresponds to the known devices for lower safety requirements, but whose program structure allows the heating system to be operated with very explosive fuel-air mixtures.
Accordingly, the invention relates to an automatic firing unit for a heating system for burning liquid, gaseous or powdered fuels, with a flame detector, at least one actuating element, a drive element, a plurality of contacts for actuating a conveyor, a shut-off, an ignition and a Fault reporting device of the heating system, the drive element and for switching off the heating system in the event of a fault, as well as with means for unlocking the system after a fault shutdown, and is characterized by
that in order to achieve a switching program suitable for the operation of the heating system with explosive fuel-air mixtures, at least one of the contacts for actuating the drive element and for monitoring the program position is a snap switch that is switched on by the drive element and switched off by an actuating element and the has a transition point that depends on the status of the program sequence.
Embodiments of the invention are shown schematically in the drawings. For illustration: FIGS. 1 and 2 show a schematic embodiment of a snap switch, FIGS. 3 and 4 side views of an embodiment, the respective uninteresting part of the contact set not being shown, FIG. 5 a side view of a further embodiment, the uninteresting parts of the Contact set are not shown, Fig. 6 is a side view of a further embodiment, the uninteresting parts of the contact set are not shown, Fig. 7 is a circuit diagram,
8 shows a partial view of a circuit diagram of the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 5.
The spring holder 1 and the spring 3 designed as a contact holder each have a holding device 11 and 12 for the pretensioned spring 2 at their upper ends. The resilient contact holders 4 and 5 with the contacts 8 and 9 serve as stops for the spring 3 with the contact 7 and are connected to the spring holder 1 and the spring 3 by means of the insulating body 6 to form a unit.
The spring 3 can be overturned by actuating the spring holder 1 in the direction of the arrow or by moving the spring 3 against the direction of the arrow. If, for example, the spring 3 is moved from the position shown in FIG. 1 against the position shown in dashed lines with a rigid spring holder 1, the resilient contact holder 5 follows the spring 3 until the spring 3 assumes the position shown in dashed lines. With a further movement of the spring 3 beyond this position, under the action of the relaxing spring 2, it experiences a force in the opposite direction that increases suddenly from zero, so that it suddenly tilts against the contact 8 and the contacts 7 and 9 opens.
The spring 3 remains in this position until it is moved beyond the position shown in broken lines by a force in the direction of the arrow according to FIG. 2, after which it tilts back into the original position shown in FIG. 1 in the manner described. From FIGS. 1 and 2 it can be seen that the turning points of the spring 3 have locally the same positions in both turning directions.
Accordingly, the switch has no switching interval for this type of actuation. In order to keep the duration of the zero crossing of the force that occurs when the spring 3 is turned between the contacts 7 and 9 or 7 and 8 as small as possible in the interests of contact stress, in practice the contacts 4 and 5 are designed to be resilient, so that they can follow the spring 3 to a little above the broken line. However, there is also the possibility of bringing the spring 3 abruptly to the point of changeover, with the contact holders 4 and 5 no longer needing to follow suit.
If the spring 3 is overturned by actuating the spring holder 1, the same considerations apply, except that there is a travel difference between switching on and off, which is referred to as the switching interval. The functioning of any other snap switch construction, regardless of whether it uses mechanical or magnetic elements, corresponds to that described above. Any desired constructions can be selected for the arrangement according to the invention.
3, 4 and 7 each show a page and the circuit diagram of an embodiment of the invention which uses the switch construction described. In this exemplary embodiment, a drive element 13 is constructed from a bimetal 14, a heating winding 15 and a coupling element 16 connecting the insulating pieces 24 and 25. The actuating element 17 in the example consists of a coil 18, a yoke 19 and a rotatable armature 20 Actuate snap-action switches 34-62, 65-66, 36-37, 38-39 and 40-41-42

the heater 15 for the drive element 13, the ignition device 48 and shut-off device 47, the shutdown of the device in the event of a malfunction and the operating display 49.
The drive 13 actuates the springs 28, 29 and 30 via the insulating pieces 24 and 25 in such a way that the snap movements of the springs 37, 39 and 41 come about by means of the springs 31, 32 and 33. The springs 26 and 27 serve as stops for the springs 37 and 39. The armature 20 actuates the contacts 34-62 and 65-66 via the insulating pieces 64 and 75. It also acts on the spring 30 via the insulating pieces 75, 64 and 71 and on the spring 42 via the insulating piece 21. The spring holders 69 and 74 are fastened in the adjustable part 70 in such a way that the springs 62 and 66 are pressed against the stops 72 and 67 depending on the position of the drive 13 and the springs 68 and 73.
All springs are combined with the drive 13 and the yoke 19 to form a unit by an insulating body 43. When the coil 18 is excited via the changeover contact 79-80-81, the devices 13, 46, 47 and 48 are separated from the feeding network by means of an opening contact 53-54 that is firmly coupled to it. The system can be controlled with the aid of the thermostat 50. In the example, the element 44 is a rectifier which feeds the delayed-release actuating element 17 with a rectified alternating voltage, the magnitude of which is given by the flame detector 45.
When there is a demand for heat, the thermostat 50 closes the burner control unit to the supply network via contact 40-41. The motor 46 for ventilating the combustion chamber and conveying the fuel and the air required for combustion starts up. The heater 15 of the drive element 13 is switched on via the contact 34-62. Since the flame detector 45 cannot yet register a flame, it remains high-resistance, so that the excitation of the coil 18 is insufficient to attract the armature 20.
After the pre-ventilation time has elapsed, the ignition device 48 is switched on because the movement of the drive 13, the insulating piece 24 and the spring 29 in the direction of the arrow causes the spring 39 to tilt against the spring 38. With a further movement of the drive 13, the insulating piece 25 and the spring 30, the spring 37 also tilts against the spring 36 after the pre-ignition time has elapsed. The fuel shut-off device 47 opens. The air conveyed by the engine fan mixes with the released fuel to form an ignitable mixture.
Due to the radiation that occurs after this mixture has been ignited at the ignition device 48, the flame detector 45 becomes low-resistance and the actuating element 17 is so strongly excited that the armature 20 attracts and actuates the contact springs 62, 65 and 66 via the insulating piece 75. The contact 34-62 is opened and the heater 15 is interrupted. The spring holder 74 and the spring 73, however, have such a shape and position that the armature 20 can no longer exert any influence on this contact. The contact springs 65 and 66 are shifted in the direction of the arrow to the stop 67 that the contact 65-66 remains permanently closed. The bimetal 14 cools down.
After the post-ignition time has elapsed, the bimetal 14 has cooled down so much and the spring 29 has been bent back so far towards the starting position via the insulating piece 24 that the spring 39 tilts back into its starting position, the contact 38-39 opens and the ignition device is switched off . During this cooling process, the spring 30 is held in place via the insulating pieces 75, 64 and 71 by the position of the armature 20. This means that it cannot follow the bimetal 14 and the contact 36-37 remains closed.
After a certain cooling time, the fast-reacting actuator 17 takes over the sole monitoring of the fuel shut-off device 47. If the flame appears within the safety time, the spring 28 is moved by the insulating piece 24 in the direction of the arrow only so far that the conditions for the spring 41 to tip over are not given are.
If the flame goes out immediately after ignition, for example due to a sharp drop in pressure in the fuel supply line, the flame detector 45 becomes high-resistance and the armature 20 drops. At this point in time, the bimetal 14 has cooled insignificantly, as a result of which the contacts 36-37 and 38-39 remain closed. But now the contact 65-66 is designed so that the spring 65 follows the falling armature 20. Contact 65-66 is opened. The stops 72 and 67, the forces of the springs 73 and 68 and the spring holders 74 and 69 are matched to one another in such a way that the springs 62 and 66 are pressed against the stops 72 and 67 by the springs 73 and 68 until the contacts 38-39 and 36-37 can open by the cooling of the bimetal 14.
When the bimetal 14 cools down further, the spring 30 follows the insulating piece 25 and exerts a pressure on the springs 62 and 66 via the insulating pieces 71, 64 and 75, causing them to be displaced against the direction of the arrow until they tilt back into their original position can. The heater 15 is connected to voltage again. The conditions for a new start are now in place. Before this becomes possible, the following has happened in summary: a. Immediate shutdown of the fuel supply 47.
b. The ignition device 48 is switched off immediately. C. Return of the switching program to an initial position with perfect ventilation of the combustion chamber.
If the flame goes out at any point in time with the bimetal 14 having cooled down and with the contact 38-39 open, the contacts 34-62 and 65-66 close immediately through the movement of the insulating piece 71 and the spring 30 belonging to the opening contact 36-37, and a new start can take place.
If the formation of the flame is impossible for any reason, the actuating element 17 cannot be excited because of the high resistance of the flame detector 45. The contact 34-62 is not opened and the heater 15 is not switched off. At the end of the safety time, the contact 40-4.1 opens in this case, since the deflection of the bimetal 14 has reached the required size. The entire system is disconnected from the network and locked against a new automatic start. The contact 41-42 switches on a fault indicator.
This state is retained even when the bimetal 14 has cooled down completely. Such a locking can be reversed, for example, by energizing the actuating element 17. This is achieved by closing contact 79-80. Coupled with this is a contact 53-54, which for safety reasons still has additional

borrowed the system from the network. During the interference suppression of the system, the spring 42 and with it the spring 41 are displaced so far in the direction of the arrow via the armature 20 and the insulating piece 21 that the conditions for the tilting back of the spring 41 are given.
By means of the insulating piece 24 and the spring 28, a very specific degree of cooling of the bimetal 14 can be set for the tilting back of the spring 41, so that perfect ventilation of the combustion chamber is possible immediately after the interference suppression.
After a long interruption of operation of the heating system or improper installation of the flame detector 45 there is definitely the possibility of a short circuit in the flame detector 45 and in the connection line to the monitoring part of the automatic burner control or of the incidence of external radiation. It is therefore necessary for safety reasons not to allow the system to start up if a fault simulating a flame occurs. In such a case, in the present example, the actuating element 17 is excited by the low resistance of the flame detector 45. By tightening the armature 20, the contact 34-62 is opened and the heater 15 is switched off.
As a result, neither the fuel release nor the switching on of the ignition device 48 can take place. This state is retained even when the supply network is switched off and on again.
In the embodiment just described, the heater 15 of the drive element 13 according to FIG. 7 can be connected directly to the thermostat 50 via the contacts 34-62 and 53-54. The following exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 5 shows a further possible contact structure with a simplification of the contact unit 34-62-72. The contact 34-62 closes and opens with the corresponding movement of the armature 20 without having the properties of a snap switch. The switching program is only monitored by contact 65-66 according to FIG. 8 in the manner already described. It is therefore necessary to connect contact 34-62 in series with contact 65-66 so that the safety of the system is guaranteed is.
The contact spring 65 is held in the switched-on state by the armature 20 via the insulating piece 63.
Another embodiment is shown in FIG. 6. As in the last example, only the contact 66-76 is switched on by the drive element 13. The contact 34-76 follows the movement of the armature only via the insulating piece 77. Here, by transferring several functions to the contact spring 76, a simplification of the structure is achieved. The contact spring 66 is tilted in a known manner by the actuating element 17 in the direction of the arrow against the stop 67, the contact 66-76 remaining closed, and tilted back again by the drive element 13 if the armature 20 has fallen off and the drive element 13 has cooled sufficiently. When the armature 20 falls, the contact 66-76 opens immediately, whereby the devices 13, 47 and 48 are separated from the network.
Although the contact 34-76 closes, due to the series connection of the contacts 34-76 and 76-66 according to FIG. 8, the heater 15 can only be activated after the bimetal 14 has cooled down and the spring 66 has tilted back under the action of the movement of the insulating piece 71 and the Spring 68 can be put under tension.
The various contact combinations 34-62, 65-66 and 34-76-66 described can be used in conjunction with any drive element. Thus, instead of the heated bimetal 14 in connection with snap switches, one can imagine a switching drum control which has to be monitored in the same way for its switching position. The cooling of a bimetal can be compared with the return of the shift drum to its starting position. An electromagnetic or thermal linear motor or a piston controlled by the oil or water pressure can also be used. In any case the contacts 34-62 and 65-66 or 34-76-66 monitor the further functional sequence after any interruption of the control program.
