Description

Sealing gasket for pipes The invention relates to a gasket for rigid pipes which are assembled end to end by fitting the male end of one of the pipes into the female socket of the neighboring pipe.

In current practice, the sealing of the connection is obtained by pouring plaster or similar material in the gap formed between the female socket and the male part. The seal obtained is fairly relative, especially after aging of the plaster. Further, this process requires some labor and skilled labor. Finally, the packing is rigid and transmits noise and mechanical vibrations.

Attempts have been made to replace this type of gasket with rubber sealing washers clamped between the facing surfaces of the fitted parts of the pipes, but the correct positioning of these washers is difficult. Often, during installation, the packing washer is pushed by the male end of the pipe towards the bottom of the socket instead of remaining in the place provided so that the seal is not ensured.

The object of the invention is to avoid the drawbacks indicated above and to this end proposes a sealing gasket for fitted rigid pipes, characterized in that it comprises a flexible washer intended to be inserted between the cylindrical surfaces. facing the fitted parts, this washer being made integral with a ring of rigid material which rests on the end of the female part of the pipe in order to prevent the flexible washer from being pushed back to the bottom of the socket when fitting the male part of the other pipe.

Embodiments of the invention are shown by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings in which FIG. 1 is a diametral sectional view showing a gasket mounted between the walls of two fitted ducts. Fig. 2 shows the section, at rest, of the previous trim.

Figs. 3 and 4 show the section of two other linings according to the invention. In fig. 1 shows the male part 1 of a pipe fitted into the enlarged socket 2 of the pipe adja cent. These two pipes are made of rigid material such as cast iron, asbestos-cement, pottery or others. This fitting leaves between the cylindrical walls facing the two pipes an interval 3 which must be closed her metically to avoid any leakage and any emanation of odors.

The seal provided for this purpose com takes a body of flexible material 4 in the form of a ron delle inserting between the opposite cylindrical walls of the pipe so as to rest elastically on these walls. The inner side of this washer 4 advantageously has a circular groove 5 leaving flexible lips 6-7 increasing elasticity. The shape at rest of this washer may be that shown in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4.

This washer 4 is integral with a flat rigid ring 8 having an internal diameter sufficient to allow the packing to engage on the pipe 1 and an external diameter approximately equal to the external diameter of the socket 2. This rigid ring 8 therefore overflows all around the flexible washer 4 which allows it to come to rest against the end of the socket 2. Thanks to this rigid ring 8 the penetration of the pipe 1 inside the washer 4 at the time of the fitting of pipes 1 and 2 does not risk pushing the washer back to the bottom of the gap 3. The crown 8 indeed retains the washer 4 at the entrance of the socket 2, in the correct position so that it ensures tightness.

The flexible washer 4 is made adherent to the crown 8 either by gluing or directly during the molding of this washer in contact with the crown. It is seen in fig. 2 that the washer adheres along a significant part of the lower surface of the crown as well as on the inner edge of this crown so that a certain mass of flexible material 9 is interposed between the crown and the pipe 1 and prevents any direct contact between these two elements.

In the packing illustrated in fig. 3 the flexible washer 4 is further extended by a layer 10 covering the entire lower surface of the crown 8. This increases the strength of the connection between the crown and the washer and insulates the crown 8 from any direct contact with the ring. end of the socket 2 once the seal has been fitted.

In the filling according to fig. 4, on the contrary, it is the upper face of the crown 8 which is covered with a layer of flexible material 11 integral with the ron delle 4 in order to increase the connection surface between these two elements. The two previous embodiments can be combined so that the crown 8 is covered with green on both sides with a layer of flexible material secured to the washer.

The washer 4 can be made of any material having suitable flexibility and good resistance to aging, such as natural or synthetic rubber or flexible plastic. The crown 8 is advantageously made of metal, but any other rigid material such as hard plastic, ebonite and others can be used.

The gaskets described above have in particular the advantage of allowing easy and safe positioning, even by unskilled labor and without requiring special care. As a result, the seal obtained is excellent and durable even in the case of pipes subject to expansion and contractions. The relative movements which might occur as a result are accommodated by the flexibility of the joint. Finally, these gaskets provide sound and anti-vibration insulation for the assembled pipes.
