Fig. 1 eine perspektivische Ansicht des ersten Beispiels,
Fig. 3 ein zweites und
Fig. 4 ein drittes Ausführungsbeispiel.
Device for splinting a person's leg
The invention relates to a device for splinting a person's leg.
The known devices of this type, which are usually designed as wire splints, do not allow the leg to be properly immobilized without the risk of peroneal damage (pressure points). In addition, they are not transparent to X-rays.
One purpose of the invention is to eliminate the drawbacks mentioned.
The device is characterized according to the invention in that it has a main part with at least one opening open at the top extending over its entire length, which has a shape adapted to the anatomy of the leg, and that a footrest is also provided at one end of the main part and that at least the main part consists of foamed plastic or foam rubber.
Further details emerge from the following description with reference to the drawing, which shows exemplary embodiments of the invention. Show it:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the first example,
FIG. 2 shows the device according to FIG. 1 together with a known rail for elevating the leg,
Fig. 3 a second and
4 shows a third embodiment.
According to FIG. 1, the device consists of a main part 1, a footrest 2 and an insert part 3.
The main part 1 has a recess 4 intended to receive the leg, which recess 4 is open at the top of the main part and which extends over the entire length of the main part. The recess has a shape adapted to the anatomy of the leg, as can be seen in FIG. 1 from the course of the lines 5, 6, 7.
The footrest 2 consists of a plate projecting in height beyond the main part and of a reinforcing rail 8. It is also provided with recesses 9 for its attachment, e.g. B. on a bed frame.
The main part 1, the plate of the footrest 2 and the insert part 3 consist of a plastic foam, preferably polyether foam, or of foam rubber, and the reinforcing strip 8 of wood or plastic.
To compensate for different leg lengths, the insert part 3 can be inserted in the recess 4 between the sole of the foot and the footrest 2.
The anatomically adapted shape of the recess 4 and the aforementioned material, of which the main part 1 and the footrest 2 are made, ensure that the leg to be immobilized is properly supported. The occurrence of pressure points and the resulting muscle paralysis is excluded.
As FIG. 2 shows, the leg immobilized with the device can be stored up or down by means of a known support straight or with the knee joint slightly bent.
The X-ray permeability of the device can be described as a particular advantage. A broken leg can be x-rayed without removing the device, eliminating the risk of displacement at the fracture site.
The device is washable, sterilizable with steam up to 135 C and has an unlimited shelf life.
The embodiment according to FIG. 3 differs from the one described above mainly in that it has two recesses 4, the longitudinal axes 10 of which diverge towards the footrest 2.
The device according to FIG. 4 is particularly suitable for rescuing accident victims. It has a main part 1 with a footrest 2, as has been described with reference to FIG. On the main part there is a cover 11 made of foam or foam rubber.
The arrangement of reinforcements 12 in the form of flat and folded light metal, wood or plastic parts increases the stability of the device significantly. The cover is fixed to the main part by straps 13 or the like. The device is lightweight, which is important for its use in mountain and skiing accidents.
