Cap for an aerosol container The present invention relates to a cap for an aerosol container, in particular a container carrying a valve provided with a tubular rod, which can be operated by hand.
The object of the invention is to provide a cap which can be manufactured easily and economically from plastic material, by injection molding, and which can be easily assembled on the container.
The cap forming the subject of the invention is characterized in that it comprises a main body provided with an outer circumferential wall from which extends, towards the center of the cap, a radial cavity, a core extending at least in part over the length of this cavity and leaving with it an annular space, and a tubular insert of elongated shape constituting a spray element,
engaged without play at least partly inside this annular space and having an outer end wall provided with an outlet orifice with which communicates an adjacent circular chamber associated with channels arranged tangentially for the reception of the fluid coming from 'an aerosol container fitted with this cap.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a cross section of this embodiment; fig. 2 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 1; fig. 3 is a section on a larger scale of a part shown in FIG. 1; fig. 4 is a section on a larger scale on 4-4 of FIG. 3; fig. 5 is a section on a larger scale along 5-5 of FIG. 3, and fig. 6 is a partial section on a larger scale corresponding to FIG. 3.
The cap-forming head is constituted (fig. 1 and 2) by two elements, namely a main body 1 and an insert 2. The main body 1 comprises a substantially cylindrical outer wall 3 and an upper wall provided with an orifice s 'extending over the top face of the cap and a side port extending partly on its side. A tab 5 forming a button, serving to actuate a valve, is arranged in these openings, and a side wall 4 curved inwardly, supporting this tab, pivots on a flexible part 6 connected to the lower edge of the side hole.
A practically cylindrical skirt 28, placed inside the wall 3, has a bead 7 intended to hook onto the rolled edge of a conventional cup for mounting a valve of an aerosol container, in order to to ensure the removable fixing of the edge of the cap on this container. A housing 8 provided in the bottom of the tab 5 engages on the stem of the valve (not shown), this housing being provided in a hub 9.
The tab 5 has a radial cavity extending in the horizontal direction, opening out to the outside of this tab at one end, this cavity having at its opposite end an orifice 10 communicating with the housing 8, which provides the seal around the valve stem. A wall 11 and a core 12 are integral with the tab 5 and have circular sections over the greater part of their length. It is particularly important that the part of the wall closest to the outer face of the cap be circular, since leakage can occur if irregular shapes are used, owing to the difficulties then encountered in molding the caps. plastics and assembly.
The attached part 2 consists of a tube designed so as to engage in the cavity delimited by the wall 11 and the core 12, the assembly being carried out with hard friction. If we refer to fig. 3 and 5, the insert 2 has a wall 13 having a uniform circumferential thickness in its part closest to the external face of the cap, designed so as to engage exactly in the annular space formed in the tab. 5. At the inner end of the insert 2, part of the tube is notched at an angle of 900 (fig. 3), so as to provide an extension in the form of a tongue 14 penetrating into a channel of the hub 9 at the end. above the accommodation 8.
A groove 15 extends over the entire length of the internal surface of the wall 13 and of the extension 14. An angular surface 16 is provided on the rear part of the extension 14 so that, during the assembly of the insert, the housing 8 communicates with groove 15 through orifice 10.
As shown in fig. 4, an inclined end face 17 of the insert has a small central depression 18 and four grooves 19 extending tangentially from the periphery of the circulation chamber formed by this depression 18, to the edge of the surface 17. In the center of the chamber 18 is formed an orifice 20 opening into the atmosphere.
The insert 2 is mounted on the core 12 as shown in FIG. 6. The outer end of the core 12 is parallel to the surface 17 and rests tightly against it. The tolerances are calculated to ensure this cooperation. An annular cavity 21 is formed in the outer end of the core 12 and communicates with the longitudinal groove 15, which in turn opens into the orifice 10 for the passage of the fluid. When the elements are assembled, the distributed fluid passes through the opening 10 to reach the groove 15, then into the annular space 21.
Each of the tangential grooves 19 communicates with this annular space 21 and the fluid, which is in a state not yet dispersed, undergoes a swirling movement in the chamber 18, as a result of its routing by the grooves 19 arranged tangentially. The material moving at increased speed exits through the orifice 20. Although the circulation chamber 18 and the tangential grooves 19 are provided here in the wall 17 of the insert, they may also be located in the outer end. of axis 12.
As an alternative to the use of a barge 15 and an annular space 21, Longi tudinal ribs can be provided on the inner wall of the insert 2 or on the outer surface of the core 12, in order to provide a clearance over the entire length of the surfaces cooperating by abutment. If this variant is used, the clearance required at the outer end of the core 12 communicates with the radial grooves 19, which eliminates the need to provide an annular space 21.
Flanges 22 and 23 are formed on the attached part 2 to facilitate its mounting in the tab 5. These flanges are used to position the part during assembly, but it is not necessary only hard friction is obtained for these flanges 22 and 23 in complementary cavities 24 and 25 of the tab 5. However, the insert 2 has a circular shape on its main body, so that a hard friction connection is obtained over its entire length relative to the wall 11. It is necessary to use a circular shape, because practice has shown that leaks can occur when other shapes are provided.
An insufficiently tight connection between the insert 2 and the wall 11 can be the source of leaks and can allow the wall 17 to move away from the end of the pin 12, which eliminates the desired action in room 18.
During operation, the rear part 26 of the tab 5, lowered by the user under the effect of the pressure of the finger, pushes the stem of the valve and opens the latter. The fluid then enters the housing 8, then arrives through the orifice 10 in the groove 15. The fluid in the not yet dispersed state then enters the annular space 21 and the tangential grooves 19. The animated material d Increased velocity within the flow chamber 18 exits through port 20.
Although, in the example considered, the wall 11 and the core 12 belong to the tab, it is possible to mount them in a fixed part of the cap and to provide separate members for transmitting the fluid between the stem of the valve and the spray chamber. In this case, no inclination of the front part 27 of the insert 2 is necessary.
