So könnte z.
Fig. 9 stellt den Endzustand des Vorganges dar.
Die einmal erreichte Spannung bleibt also aufrechterhalten.
So könnte z.
Method and tool for tying bundles of rods, in particular cable harnesses
The present invention relates to a method and a tool for tying bundles of rods, in particular cable harnesses, with a band wrapped around it, the ends of which are held by a lock.
A large number of such tools have become known. The difficulty in this is always a secure and yet simple fastening of the ends of the band wrapped around the cable harness to be bound in the lock. This has been achieved, for example, by twisting the ends of the band together, clamping them in the lock with a screw, plastically deforming them together with the lock (box straps), winding them up on a mandrel in the lock Tubular straps) or that the straps are provided with holes or other continuous recesses or recesses only in the surface, into which the locking elements connected to the lock are engaged.
If a band is used which has the same cross-section over its entire length, i.e. has no retaining recesses, the lock is usually relatively complicated because the retaining forces must then be applied by frictional force or deformation. In contrast, those devices in which the band is provided with retaining recesses have the disadvantage that the band is relatively expensive, while the lock can be designed simply.
Various devices of this type have become established in practice for different purposes and depending on the material of the tapes used.
In many cases it is desirable to be able to take the tape from an endless roll. Normally, however, one works in such a way that predetermined lengths of tape are combined with a lock ready for use. This has the disadvantage that the length of the tape, because of the greatly varying cable harness diameter and because a certain piece has to survive for tensioning, always has to be dimensioned in abundance and this results in considerable losses and that extensive storage is required for different lengths. The material losses are particularly sensitive when expensive materials are used, such as. B.
Poly amide plastic. These materials are practically indispensable for cable tapes in particular because, unlike polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene, they have the higher temperature resistance required in aircraft construction and, unlike metal, are flexible and insulating.
For example, cable ties are known from this material, which consist of a piece of tape, at one end of which there is a lock through which the other end of the tape is passed and is secured by twisting it after tensioning. In order to avoid major material losses, it is always necessary with this belt to have different sizes in stock, which makes production and storage more expensive.
It has also become known that individual conductors can be combined into cable harnesses using perforated cable straps. The hole firing is usually made of soft polyvinyl chloride, is provided with holes along its entire length and at certain intervals, through which collar button-shaped buttons are pressed.
As a result of the softness - which is necessary in order to be able to push the buttons in hindu - it often happens that the tape is subjected to too great a stretch and the originally round holes deform into elongated holes. In this case, shocks and vibrations can cause the buttons to pop out, making these bonds too unsafe for some areas of application. For this reason, the possible uses are very limited. Furthermore, the possibility of use is limited by the fact that the tapes can practically only consist of polyvinyl chloride due to the required softness, but which is unsuitable for operating temperatures above 700 C.
The present invention, a procedural Ren for tying cable harnesses with a wrapped band, the ends of which are held by a lock, proposed, which is characterized by its particular simplicity. It also has the advantage that it can easily be made with materials that have a higher temperature resistance - both plastics and metals - and that the strap and lock can be manufactured and combined individually so that you can work off the roll.
Furthermore, the band can have a constant cross-section over its length, so that it is inexpensive to manufacture.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that in the lock at least one uninterrupted strap end is deformed by at least one pin moved transversely to the broad side of the strap and this is secured in the lock. A positive locking of the strap ends in the lock can therefore be achieved, in a particularly simple manner, in that the locking pin simultaneously serves to create the counterformation in the strap itself which is suitable for the positive connection.
In contrast to the use of perforated straps, with the present method the strap can be tensioned to any degree without having to adjust to the hole spacing for the closure, nor is a certain minimum softness of the strap material required, which is necessary when buttons through Holes of a perforated tape are to be buttoned through.
The method can proceed in such a way that a through hole for the locking pin is punched in the strap ends of the latter in cooperation with a hole acting as a die in the lock; however, such an embodiment is particularly advantageous in which the formation of the through hole in the band ends is associated with plastic deformation. As a result, the edges of the holes are rounded so that they cannot be torn out so easily.
It is particularly advantageous if a through hole is not actually created, but rather the pin, in cooperation with a correspondingly larger hole in the lock, merely deforms the band at its passage point into a pot shape, so that no damage to the band at all and no reduction in the cross section of the band occurs . For this purpose, the band expediently consists of deep-drawable material, in particular of polyamide. Its cross-section is advantageously trapezoidal. The edges can also be rounded. The invention also relates to the bundle of rods tied according to the method with a looped band, the ends of which are held by the lock.
The lock of the bundle of rods can consist of two material bridges enclosing a slot for receiving the tape ends, which are firmly connected to one another and have one or more bores extending transversely to the slot, each of which receives a pin. The retention of the pin in the lock can be achieved by friction in a narrow bore, but often more advantageously by a positive connection. This form-fitting connection can be produced by plastic deformation of the parts involved during the closing process.
This is advantageously done in that the lock bores are partially designed with a relatively large diameter and the material of the cold-deformable pin is pressed into these widenings in a locking manner by being axially compressed during the closing process.
A particularly advantageous form of the strap lock can be provided that the locking pin in the original state of the lock consists of one piece with this, and thereby assumes a position that corresponds to its initial position during the closing process, and that it is through easily fragile material bridges with the rest Lock body is connected. This is relatively easy to achieve by injection molding the locks from plastic.
The invention also relates to a tool with which the method according to the invention can be carried out. This tool is characterized by a holding device for the lock, a tensioning device for the band and a pressure device for the pin. However, the tool can also comprise a cutting device for severing the ends of the tape protruding beyond the lock after closing.
It is particularly advantageous if the tool also contains a roller for the tape from which it is guided to the lock holder, as well as holding pliers for the loose, returned tape end. The tape can be tensioned by turning back the tape roll while the loose end is held by the holding forceps.
The pressure device for the pen advantageously consists of a pressure stamp which can be moved transversely to an abutment on which the lock rests.
The tool can be combined with a magazine for the locks, from which a new lock is automatically or semi-automatically transferred to the holding device of the tool after each locking process. If locks are used that are not combined with a pen at the same time, a magazine for pens can also be provided.
The new method, in particular in connection with the tool according to the invention, permits the rapid production of fixed cable harnesses even by untrained forces. The work can also be carried out in hard-to-reach places without difficulty. The bonds produced in this way are able to withstand all mechanical and thermal loads that occur, for example, in aircraft construction, vehicle construction or in electrical apparatus construction.
Further details of the methods and devices according to the invention emerge from the following description of the exemplary embodiments equipped with special advantages, which are shown in the drawing. In it are:

1 shows schematically a bundle 1 of electrical conductors which are encompassed by means of the band 2, the ends of which are held by the lock 3, and held as a cable tree. This band can also be connected to a fastening base for the cable harness, by means of which the cable harness is fastened to any components, for example. Such fastening devices in connection with cable ties are known.
In the case of use in cable harnesses, the tape is advantageously made of an insulating plastic. So that the insulation of the conductors is not damaged, it can have a trapezoidal cross-section and rounded corners. In the case of hose ties and similar applications, the band can also be made of metal.
The cross-sections through various locks shown in FIGS. 2 to 4 illustrate various fastening methods according to the invention for the strap ends. The locks consist in all cases of a lock body 4, which consists of two material bridges which include a slot 8 between them, which is used to accommodate the strap ends 5 and 6. A hole for receiving a pin penetrating the tape ends extends transversely through the slot 8.
In Fig. 2, this pin 7 is pointed. It is pushed with force through the lock body 4, which does not need to have a pilot hole if it is sufficiently flexible. However, it is more advantageous if at least narrow bores are already present. The pin is then held due to the friction on the undersized bores opposite its diameter. The lock can be made of flexible plastic or metal, the pin made of steel.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, the through hole is already contained in the lock beforehand. The side of the hole that is the second to be pierced by the pin 9 has a sharp inner edge 10 which acts as a punching edge in connection with the front edge of the pin 9. A sharp through hole is made through the ends of the tape. With 11 punched pieces of tape are indicated.
In order to avoid the band weakening and to achieve a harmonious transmission of the forces between the band and the lock, it is advantageous if the hole edges are deformed cup-like to a certain extent. Such an embodiment is shown in FIG. The pin 12 lies in a pair of coaxial bores 13 and 14. While the diameter of the bore 13 can be approximately adapted to its diameter, the bore 14 has a diameter which is relatively large, so that the band when piercing the pin 12 in this further bore is drawn in and deep-drawn in the manner indicated at 15 in a pot-shaped manner. It is obvious that this type of deformation causes the slightest weakening of the band cross-section, since there is no damage to the band at all.
In the further course of the closing process shown in an intermediate stage in FIG. 4, the final state shown in FIG. 9 and explained further below is reached.
The purpose pursued with the embodiment according to FIG. 4 can partly - in many cases this will suffice - also be achieved in that only the hole edges are initially deformed in the manner shown in FIG. 4 and, after this deformation, a complete piercing of the band later takes place. However, the exclusive plastic deformation of the band ge according to FIG. 4 is preferred and reference is made in the following essentially to the method to be carried out. However, the following explanations of further details can largely also be transferred to other types of embodiment without the need for inventive considerations.
In Fig. 13, the embodiment of a lock is shown in which the pin 16 with the lock body 4 consists of one piece. To close the lock, the upper and lower bridges 17 and 18 of the lock are pressed together in the axial direction of the pin 16 and the bore 19. The pin 16 pierces the band between the bridges 17 and 18, penetrates the bore 19 and is held here either by the plastic deformation of the lock or in another way, for example like the pin 12 in FIG. 9.
The connection of the pin and the lock body can in particular also take place by form-fitting interlocking of corresponding formations on the pin and on the circumference of the bore g receiving it. So could z. B. the Sitift can be provided with circumferential elevations that fit into corresponding circumferential grooves of the bore after the lock body or pin have been elastically deformed during the introduction of the pin.
According to the invention, the positive connection can also be produced by the fact that the lock body or pin is plastically deformed during the closing process. For this purpose, the bores can be provided with circumferential widenings into which the cold-deformable pin material is pressed due to the axial pressure occurring during the closing process. Such a peripheral expansion is, for example, the conical bore part 20 in FIG. 4.
A particularly preferred form of the lock is shown in FIGS. The lock consists of a lock body 4 which has a lower bore 13 and an upper bore 14 which are coaxial with one another. The pin 12 is pressed in one piece with the lock body 4. In the initial position required for the closing process, it sits in the bore 13, connected to its wall by thin material bridges 21. These material bridges can run through in the circumference or consist of individual radial webs.
The diameter of the bores 13 and 14 are larger than the outer diameter of the pin 12. The bore 14 has a conical extension 20 at the top. Slants 22 lead to the slot 8, which is used to receive the tape ends 5 and 6, on the side on which the cable harness 1 is later to be wound around by the tape 2. These bevels first of all allow the band 2 to rest better against the round cross-section of the cable harness in this area and also facilitate the insertion of the band into the slot 8.
The lock is preferably made of a type of polyamide and is manufactured by injection molding.
The tape used together with it can also consist of polyamide.
The closing method will now be explained with reference to FIGS. 7 to 9: The tape 2 is placed around the cable harness 1.
The tape ends 5 and 6 are guided through the slot 8 of the slot body 4. The strap is tensioned at the top, pressing the lock against the wiring harness.
This starting stage is shown in Fig. 7.
Thereafter, pressure is exerted on the pin 12 according to FIG. 11, so that the material bridges 21 break in the manner already indicated in FIG. 10 and the pin 12 penetrates the bore 14 with deep-drawing deformation 15 of the strip ends 5 and 6.
9 shows the final state of the process. The pin 12 was pushed further upwards by the punch 23 until it hit the abutment 24 with the deep-drawn band parts 15 interposed. The punch 23 then continued its axial pressure. The pin 12 yielded to this further advance by moving at points 25 and 26 into the larger-diameter areas of the bores 13 and 14. It can be seen that a secure, form-fitting connection between the pin 12 and the lock body 4 was achieved in this way. A non-destructive removal of the pen from the lock is impossible. The tape ends 4 and 5 are reliably held in the lock. Due to their deformation at the edges of the holes, it is very difficult to pull them out.
If greater holding forces are required, two lock pins can also be provided, as is provided for the lock according to FIG.
According to FIG. 11, a larger number of locks can be produced in one injection molding process. The individual locks are - as is known from other corresponding bulk goods that are manufactured by injection molding - connected to one another by easily breakable material bridges. They are very easy to manipulate in this way. They can also be stored in this form.
Of course, they can also be connected to one another in such a way that they sit against one another with their side surfaces. This form of lock strips is chosen when a magazine that holds them is to open into a corresponding tool from the side.
While in the above explanations it was always assumed that the strap and lock are manufactured separately, FIG. 12 shows a shape desired in some cases, in which the strap 27 is connected to the lock body 4 by an appropriate length.
This combined tape can e.g. B. can be produced by a single injection molding process.
The lock shapes described with reference to FIGS. 5 to 12 are particularly advantageous in connection with a specific tool for producing the corresponding bindings, which is equipped according to the invention with a holding device for the lock, a tensioning device for the strap, a pressure device for the pen and, if necessary, a cutting device for severing protruding tape ends. Because the closure of the lock according to the invention is particularly fast (no screws need to be tightened and no tape ends need to be wound on mandrels), the binding of cable harnesses with the tool according to the invention is very time-saving and easy. The tool can also be provided with magazines for the band and the locks.
This greatly simplifies the way of working and reduces the risk of errors
In Fig. 14, a tool is shown in perspective, which combines all the functions to be performed and is equipped with tape and lock magazines.
In the case of simpler versions of the tool, it is easily possible to omit individual features, since they are largely independent of one another, even if they are also described coherently in the following with reference to this tool.
The tool is in the form of hand pliers with a tool body 27 which is firmly connected to the hand lever 28. A second hand lever 29 is movably mounted in the tool body 27. By means of suitable transmission devices in the tool body, the hand lever 29 can be connected to the devices for closing the lock and for cutting off the protruding ends of the strap, as well as with the device for holding the lock that is in progress.
The tape roll 30 is mounted in the rear part of the tool. This roll of tape is connected to a knurled wheel 31. The running strip end 32 is guided through a channel in the back of the tool body 27 to the end face 33, namely there into the holding window 34 for a lock.
The end of the tape can be tensioned by turning the roller 30 by means of the knurled wheel 31. The roll of tape is connected to a ratchet 35 which prevents the roll of tape from rotating back from the tensioned state.
A magazine 36 is connected to the tool.
In the embodiment shown, the connection is effected by a hinge 37. The magazine 36 with its opening 38 can be pivoted in front of the window 34 around this hinge in order to lift a lock there.
The structural details of the tool are now described with reference to the sectional drawings 15 to 22:
The tool body 27 is a hollow press or injection molded part. The holding window for the locks is formed at the top and on the sides by fixed housing parts 42, 43 or parts that are directly connected to them. The side parts 42 form a guide for a link 40 which forms the underside of the window 34 and can be moved up and down to a certain extent in these guides within the end face of the tool. The backdrop has a central hole. A punch 44, which can also be moved up and down, engages through this central bore from below. This punch preferably has a convexly curved end face 45.
It performs the function of the pressure tool 23 according to FIG. 9, while the upper part 43 of the window forms the abutment according to reference number 24 of FIG.
A channel 46 opens into the window and runs in the back of the tool body 27 from the area of the tape roll 30 to the window 34 on the front side of the tool. This channel is used to receive the tape 32 to be fed to the window from the roll.
The roller is mounted in a holder 47 in the rear part of the tool. It is placed interchangeably on a roller carrier in a manner not shown but known in the case of corresponding devices and connected to rotate together with the axis on which the ratchet wheel 48 and the knurled wheel 31 are likewise non-rotatable.
A pawl 49, which is held in engagement by a spring 50, cooperates with the ratchet wheel 48, unless a rod 51, to be explained later, puts it out of action by pressure on its rear part 52. The bearing pin 53 of the pawl is held fixed to the housing.
In the front area of the channel 46 there is an upwardly opening window 54 through which the band running in the channel is accessible. 18 shows a cross section through the channel 46 at the location of this window 54. The bottom of the channel is provided with elevations and depressions 55 running in the longitudinal direction, which are intended to reduce the friction of the belt in the channel in general or also specifically at this location.
In its front area, the channel 46 has a height which allows two strips of tape thickness to be received one above the other. In this area of the channel, a toothed pawl 57, which is fixedly mounted on the tool body 27 by means of the bolt 56 and whose teeth 58 are directed backwards, engages through the window 54. This pawl is shaped in such a way that, in its position notched forwards, its tooth surface comes into contact with the upper of two ligaments lying in the channel in such a way that it prevents it from being displaced forwards.
The end of the rod 51 is pivotably mounted in a bore 59 (FIG. 19) of the pawl 57. A pivoting movement of the pawl 57 therefore has a forward or
Return movement of the rod 51 result. The rod 51 is biased forward by a spring 60 (FIG. 16).
As a result, the pawl 57 is normally also held in its active position. At the same time, the rod 51 is in the position in which it allows the pawl 49 to engage the ratchet 48.
Behind the pawl 57, a pawl 61 (FIGS. 19, 22), which can be rotated about a bolt 61 fixed to the housing, protrudes into the window 54. This pawl 61 lies with its end in the upper area of the window 54, in which a belt end 63 pushed back into the channel from the front must lie. A fader 64 (FIG. 22), not indicated in all figures, pulls the part of the pawl protruding into the window forwards.
The pawl 61 has a rearwardly projecting locking lug 65 in its upper area (FIGS. 19, 22). This locking lug cooperates with a step 66 on the rod 51. In its active position, it prevents the rod 51 from advancing under the action of the spring 60 and thus prevents the pawl 57 from becoming active.
The gate 40 is connected to a slide 66 (FIG. 19) which extends practically over the entire height of the front surface of the tool and is guided therein.
It has a number of recesses 67, 68, 69 and 70 (Fig. 19).
The front end 71 of the lever 72 engages in the recess 67. Raising and lowering the end of the lever
71 causes the disk 66 with the link 40 to be raised and lowered.
The front end 73 of the lever 74 protrudes through the window 68. If the lever end 73 moves upwards, the pin 44 is also moved upwards
The recess 69 of the disk 66 serves - as FIGS. 20 to 22 show - for the passage of the band 32.
The upper edge 75 (FIG. 19) of the recess 69 is designed as a cutting edge which cooperates with the front edge of the lower wall of the channel 46.
The recess 70 of the disk 66 receives a nose 76 (FIGS. 19 to 22) of the pawl 57. If the disk 66 is moved downwards, the pawl 57 is folded backwards, that is to say inactive, by the interaction of the upper edge of the recess 70 with the nose 76. The recess 70 is large enough that when the disc 66 goes up, the lower edge of the recess 70 does not collide with the nose 76 of the latch held in the inactive position.
The levers 72 and 74 are mounted in the housing 27 on the bolt 77 and protrude with their rear ends 78 and 79 in the area of bolts 80 and 81, which protrude in the head of the hand lever 29 mounted around the housing fixed to the bolt 82. This hand lever wi and the gate 40 in the rest position of the gate only corresponds to the size of the lock body 4 without the pin 12, the gate must be pulled down to insert a lock. This is done in that the hand lever 29 is brought into connection with the lever 74 by pressing the button 81/85 and is then pulled. This results in the position of the gate according to FIG. 19.
The magazine 36 is now folded in front of the window 34. The protruding end of the lever 101 is pushed back by the link 40, so that the first lock 100 is unlocked in the magazine and is pushed into the open window by the pressure of the spring 96 (FIG. 19).
When the hand lever 29 is released, the link 40 rises so that it encompasses the pin 12 with its bore 45 and thus catches and holds the lock.
FIG. 20 makes it clear that the catch gate 40 has thus moved away from the area of the lever 101.
This snaps forward under the action of the spring 99, so that the lock 100, which is now contained first in the magazine, is locked. The same locking occurs when the magazine 36 is folded up again prematurely.
2. Preparation of the tape:
By lowering the slide 66 connected to the link 40, the pawl 57 was pushed back by the interaction of the recess 70 with the nose 76. This pushing back had the consequence that the nose 65 of the pawl 61 snapped behind the step 66 of the rod 51 and after the lifting of the plate 66 prevents the pawl 57 from returning to the active position. At the same time, the pawl 49 was brought out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 48 by the rod 51, so that the tape roll 30 can be rotated freely in the unwinding direction.
The tape 32 coming from the roll is now introduced into the channel 46 from behind. If it is still in the canal from a previous operation, it can be advanced into the window 46 by manual intervention. It slides through the lock held in window 34 and can now be pulled out to a sufficient length and wrapped around a cable harness located in front of the tool. The loose end is then pushed back into the channel from the front through the lock 4 (Fig. 21). It pushes against the pawl 61 and pushes it back against the force of the spring 64 so that the lock is released and the rod 51 can fold back with the pawl 57. The free end of the tape is thus secured against being pulled out of the tool.
At the same time, the pawl 49 folds back into the active position, i. that is, the roll 30 can no longer be unwound.
3. Tensioning the belt:
For tensioning, the knurled wheel 31, which is connected to the tape reel 30, is now rotated in the direction of the arrow 102. This pulls back the strand of the belt that is shown below in the drawings and allows it to be tensioned as desired. If you let go of the knurled wheel 31, however, the band cannot snap back under its resilient effect because the locking device 48, 49 prevents the wheel from turning back. The tension once achieved is therefore maintained.
If necessary, a slip clutch can be used between the Rändekad and the coil, which is set to a certain frictional force. In this way, a certain, always constant tension can be achieved.
4. Closing the strap lock:
When the desired strap tension has been achieved and the strap 2 is thereby tightly wrapped around the cable harness 1, the lock can be locked. This is achieved in that the head of the lever 29 is connected to the rocker arm 74 by pressing in the bolt 81 (FIG. 16) and then the lever 29 is withdrawn and the ram 44 (FIG. 15), 22 is thereby pushed up.
15 shows the handle 29 after it has already covered a certain distance. It can now no longer go back if it is accidentally released because the safety device 91 to 94 does not allow this. Rather, the hand lever 29 must first be brought into the end position shown in FIG. 16 (in a different functional context) before the safety device 91 to 94 allows it to return.
In this end position of the hand lever 29, the plunger 44 is in the position shown in FIG. The lock locking has progressed to the stage shown enlarged in FIG. H. accomplished.
5. Cut off the finished binding:
The hand lever 29 has returned to its rest position, which is indicated by dash-dotted lines in FIG. The bolt 80 is now pressed in by means of the hand knob 84 and the lever 29 is thereby connected to the rocker arm 72.
If the hand lever is withdrawn, the front end 71 of the lever 72 and thus the disk 66 with the cutting edge 75 are moved downwards. The in Fig.
22 tape ends that still appear to be unsunk are separated and the tool can be detached from the finished binding. The arrangement can be such that the pawl 49 is released before the bands are cut, so that the band lying in the channel 46 does not snap back due to its tension after cutting.
The catch gate 40 is moved into its lower position, so that the tool is now ready again to receive a new lock according to item 1 of the functional description.
The tool according to the invention can be modified in the most varied of ways compared to the exemplary embodiment specifically described here. So could z. B. a relatively simple tool simply consist of a pair of pliers, with which protruding ends of a pre-cut tape will attack from a lock, from a gel pressure device that can be supported against the lock when clamping with these pliers and a jig that allows the mutual removal of the Support device caused by the pliers, and finally from a pressure tool for piercing the pin through the lock.
This pressure tool does not even need to form a structural unit with the clamping device.
In the case of the pliers specifically described above, the tension could also take place in a manner other than via the tape roll 30. It would be B. a simple clamping device for the two ends protruding backward from the lock conceivable, which like the rocker arms 72 and 74 can optionally be connected to the hand lever 29 for the purpose of tensioning. Different hand levers can of course also be provided for the individual functions.
Another possible modification is that instead of being placed frontally in front of the window 34, the magazine opens into it from the side and the locks contained therein are constantly under spring pressure in the direction of the window without any locking device, so that automatically when a The lock has been removed from the window, followed by the next from the side.
If locks are used that do not consist of one-piece pins from the outset, an additional magazine can be provided for the pins.
It would also be conceivable not to store the pins individually, but to keep them in stock in the form of a wire, from which a piece of the appropriate length is cut off and inserted into the lock.
In many cases it is possible not to manufacture the cable harnesses on site, but to prefabricate them on your own assembly tables. In these cases, it is advisable to use stationary tools in which the functions described above for the hand-held device can take place under mechanical drive.
