Binder for molding sand or core sand The present invention relates to a binding agent for molding sand or core sand, which is added to the sand before the production of the molds or the cores, thereby ensuring good binding of the sand and advantageous properties when the heat caused by the molten metal having.
Molding compounds for foundry purposes, which mainly consist of quartz sand, such as silver sand, are often bound with cement or water glass. It is known, such molding compounds additives such as natural or synthetic resin, clay, coal dust, waste products of the wood digestion, such.
B. to add sulphite waste liquors or cell pitch powder or molasses. It is also known that the tendency to disintegrate with the help of what serglas produced by the carbonic acid solidification process forms and cores by adding other ingredients, such as. B. coal dust, starch, sugar, or metal oxides, especially iron, aluminum or titanium oxides to increase.
It is also known to first add bentonite and then coal dust to the molding sand in the production of cement-free molding compounds.
The present invention relates to a binder, preferably a cement-free and water-glass-free binder, for molding sand or core sand, which is added to the sand during the production of the molds, the molds or cores then being produced directly, preferably after adding water can be.
The binder according to the invention is characterized in that it contains a highly swellable bentonite, coal dust, wood flour and sugar.
The inventive combination of the constituents ensures that the sand molds are sufficiently bonded and that a corresponding gas leakage through the mold during casting is guaranteed. This prevents gas inclusions from forming in the metal or pores on the surface of the metal during the casting process, that is to say inclusions that reduce the quality of the molded body. Furthermore, a good release of the cast metal piece from the mold is achieved by the binding agent according to the invention after casting, as well as good disintegration of the molds or cores.
In recent times, more and more emphasis has been placed on mixing the various components of the sand binding agent dry beforehand and not adding them separately to the sand together with the water.
When producing the binding agent according to the invention, the mixture is expediently carefully and intensively mixed with suitable devices.
It has been shown that dry mixing results in a much better distribution of the components in the mixture and then also in the sand. This allows a more economical addition of the binder, a situation that has a cost-saving effect. In addition, the use of an already mixed binder for the foundry means considerable labor savings and also allows for reduced stocks.
The swellable B: entonite contained in the binder according to the invention preferably has a content of at least 75% montmorillonite. Montmorillonite is a banded silicate that is generally illustrated by the formula LAl2 (Oll) 2f fSi4 Oiol.
Due to the high montmorillonite content, the strong swelling capacity of bentonite, which can absorb up to six times its volume in water, is guaranteed. The malleability of the molding sand is guaranteed by the bentonite content of the binder according to the invention.
A hard coal dust with a high gas content is preferably used as the coal dust. A hardwood flour with a grain size of <B> 0.08-0.15 </B> mm is particularly suitable as wood flour. In the case of the sugar used according to the invention, it has been found that a semolina-like waste sugar has very good properties, and at the same time the costs of this material are not particularly high.
The binder according to the invention preferably has the following composition:
EMI0002.0005
40-60 <SEP> wt. 0/9 <SEP> bentonite
<tb> 30A.2 <SEP>% by weight <SEP> coal dust
<tb> 8-12 <SEP> weight-0 / e <SEP> wood flour
<tb> 3- <SEP> 6 <SEP> wt. 11 / o <SEP> sugar. A binder with the following composition has particularly favorable properties:
EMI0002.0007
50 <SEP>% by weight <SEP> bentonite
<tb> 36 <SEP> wt. 0/9 <SEP> coal dust
<tb> 10 <SEP>% by weight <SEP> wood flour
<tb> 4 <SEP>% by weight <SEP> sugar.
