Fig. 6 einen anderen Hahn im Schnitt.
Method of making taps
Taps with a tap housing, in which a valve plug can be rotated by means of a spindle, which plug is provided with a flow channel which, in the open position of the plug, connects the flow channels of the inlet connection and an outlet connection of the housing are known. The invention relates to a method for producing such taps with a plastic injection-molded or pressed valve housing.
It is well known that Hänhe have the advantage that they can be opened and closed quickly, and they are therefore often used as shut-off valves wherever rapid or sudden opening or closing of a line is required. Taps made of plastic are also resistant to acids, lyes, gases and other aggressive media when using suitable plastics.
Known taps ,. in particular ball valves with a multi-part housing, the parts of which are manufactured separately and assembled around the plug, have the following disadvantages. The housing parts must be manufactured with great accuracy so that a perfect seal is achieved and so that the sealing elements do not wear out prematurely. The separate manufacture of the housing parts and the great precision that has to be expended in this process make the manufacture of the cocks more expensive.
Another disadvantage of these taps is that the sealing elements, such as sealing rings or sealing collars, by djie eme perfect sealing of the plug against the housing in the closed position of the plug, must also be installed. However, more or less large dead spaces arise through which the medium does not or only poorly flows, so that deposits from the medium can settle in them or that conversions or decomposition of the medium can occur in them. These taps are therefore very often not usable for liquids or gases containing solids, for example in the food industry or in the chemical industry.
In order to avoid the aforementioned disadvantages, it has already been proposed to manufacture the housing with the housing stub as a plastic part which forms a single piece in the finished state. For this purpose, the prefabricated plug is to be used as the core for the plug chamber of the housing and a rod inserted into the flow channel of the plug and protruding from the plug on both sides as a core for the flow channels of the housing socket in a shape corresponding to the outer shape of the housing and the housing connector will. Then the housing is to be cast, pressed or injected in the mold, the cores in the mold being coated with the plastic, and then the core formed by the rod is pulled out of the tap.
However, these faucets have the following disadvantages. Depending on the coefficient of thermal expansion of the plastic used and depending on the wall thickness of the plastic part produced, plastics shrink when they cool in a mold. more or less. In the known taps, this known phenomenon can result in the sealing surfaces of the housing being pressed too tightly against the plug so that it can no longer be rotated or only with great difficulty. On the other hand, shrinking can also have the consequence that the material that shrinks in the mold during cooling contracts and that the sealing surfaces of the housing lift off the plug, so that a perfect seal is no longer possible.
As a result of the shrinkage phenomena that cannot be completely controlled during manufacture, the known taps are unsuitable where an absolutely reliable and complete seal is important. The proposals described above have therefore gained no importance and use, although they have been known for many years.
The present invention is based on the object of avoiding the aforementioned disadvantages and of creating a method by which taps with a one-piece housing can be produced simply and cheaply from plastic, which are absolutely reliable and completely sealed and which also have no dead spaces.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in such a way that prefabricated sealing rings that rest against the plug are placed on the rod, which forms the core for the throughflow channels of the housing stubs, and inserted into the mold with the rod.
Since the sealing rings are made before the housing is manufactured, they have already completed their shrinkage process when the housing shrinkage process takes place.
Furthermore, sealing rings made of plastic are known to have a certain elasticity. This elasticity of the prefabricated sealing rings, which do not participate in the shrinkage process of the housing, is surprisingly sufficient to compensate for the disadvantageous shrinkage phenomena of the housing described above in such a way that the sealing surfaces formed by the sealing rings are neither too tight against the plug, so that it would no longer be rotatable , nor do I stand out from the chick, so that sealing would no longer be possible.
The sealing rings are encased by the plastic on their surfaces not in contact with the plug when the housing is manufactured, so that no dead spaces can form, as is the case with the sealing elements that are subsequently installed as described above. Furthermore, because the sealing rings are embedded in the housing, no additional fastening means are required for the sealing rings, and the sealing rings cannot change their position when the plug is rotated.
The method according to the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing, for example. In the drawing, exemplary embodiments of molds for carrying out the method according to the invention and exemplary embodiments of taps which are removed according to the method according to the invention are shown, namely:
1 shows, in section, an injection mold with an injected ball valve,
2 shows in section another injection mold with an injection-molded tap,
3 shows a cock in the injection mold according to FIG. 2 in section,
4 and 5 a blow mold with inserted cock in section,
6 shows another tap in section.
As an example of a valve, a ball valve is shown in FIG. 3, which has a housing 1, an inlet connection 2 with a flow channel 3 and an outlet connection 4 with a flow channel 15. The direction of flow can, however, also be changed easily. The case
1 with the housing connector 2 and 4 belonging to it forms a single plastic part. A ball plug 6 with a flow channel 7 is rotatably seated in the housing 1 and, in the illustrated open position of the plug, connects the flow channels 3 and 5 of the housing stubs 2 and 4 to one another. The chick 6 is rotated by means of a spindle 8 which engages the chick with a square 8a.
The spindle 8 is guided in the socket-shaped housing part 9 which surrounds the spindle. Prefabricated sealing rings 23, which lie tightly against the plug 6, are embedded in the housing.
The production method is illustrated in FIG. 1, in which an example of an injection mold 10 is shown, which consists of the two mold blanks 10a and 10b. The injection mold 10 corresponds to the outer shape of the housing 1 and the housing connectors 2 and 3. In the open mold 10, a rod 11 is first used as the core for the flow channels 3 and 5 of the housing connectors 2 and 4, which is attached to its ends by the mold halves lOa. and 106 is worn and tightly enclosed.
The rod 11 has been inserted into the flow channel 7 of the plug 6 provided with the spindle 8 and gnaws out of the plug on both sides so that the plug 6 is carried by the rod 11 in the injection mold 10, and at the same time the flow channel 7 of the chick is tightly closed by the rod 11. A sealing ring 23 is pushed onto the core rod 11 from both sides and is fixed. has been pressed against the chick 6. The sealing rings 23 have previously been produced from plastic in a known manner. The mold 10 has then been closed, and the plastic has been injected into the mold 10 through the injection channel 12.
In this way, the housing 1 with the housing stubs 2 and 4 belonging to it has been produced as a single plastic part, as the illustration in FIG. 1 shows. The cores 6 and 11 encased with the plastic remain in a known manner in the injection mold 10 until the plastic has cooled down sufficiently and has hardened. The mold 10 is then opened, the tap is removed from the mold, and the rod 11 is withdrawn from the tap. In order to facilitate this, the rod 11 may not be cylindrical, but rather slightly conical or also in several parts. be formed.
The production by pressing takes place in the same way as the production by injection described above, with only the plastic not being injected into the mold in an already plasticized state, but being filled into the mold in a known manner and only then plasticized and pressed .
In Fig. 2, a three-part injection mold 10 is shown with the molded parts lova, lob and lOc. The molded part 10c has a projection 10d which protrudes into the housing support 9 intended to receive the spindle. A thread is produced on the outside of the connector 9 by the molded parts 10a and 10b. Otherwise, this tap is manufactured using the same method as described above with reference to FIG. In the valve removed from the injection mold 10 (FIG. 3), the spindle 8 is now inserted, which is provided, for example, with sealing rings, sealing collars or a gland packing 13, which seals the spindle 8 against the nozzle 9.
The spindle 8 is secured against movements in the axial direction by a cap 14 screwed onto the connector 9.
As can be seen, for example, from FIG. 2, the housing wall has an increased wall thickness at the points at which the circular edges in the interior of the housing at the transition from the plug space to the flow channels of the housing nozzles. At these points the chick seals the upper sack. in the closed position of the plug with the inner wall of the housing. The wall thickness at these points of the housing can be particularly large if, for example, the wall thickness of the entire housing is chosen very idick to achieve a high compressive strength and if the outside of the housing is also only slightly rounded to give the housing a pleasing shape .
In these cases it is possible that the material, which shrinks in the mold on cooling, will contract and. that the housing no longer lies so almost against the plug at the aforementioned points that a permanent and perfect seal is guaranteed with certainty.
The prefabricated rings 23 (FIG. 2) are therefore placed on the rod 11 and inserted into the mold 10 with the rod 11. In Fig. 2, 23a and 23b denote two different embodiments of the rings. The rings 23 can be made of the yellow material from which the housing is made, since thin-walled parts made of many thermoplastics, such as, for example, sealing rings, have sufficient elasticity, as is required for sealing rings.
The rings 23 are close to the plug 6, are embedded in the sheathing of the plug m the plastic and reduce the wall thickness of the itself during this operation. cooling matenials, so that the housing in the places described above. fits tightly to the plug and enables a perfect seal. It has been shown that the hard material from which the housing is made to achieve high compressive strength can easily get shorter on the sealing surfaces when the valve is used for soiled media.
This is the case, for example, when sandy water flows through the tap, so that when the plug is actuated, the sealing surfaces on the plug and on the housing inner wall can be scratched by the hard sand parts. Such scratches in the sealing surfaces mean that the tap no longer closes absolutely drip-tight. It has further been shown that such wear phenomena occurring over time on the sealing surfaces can be avoided if sealing rings made of a soft, wear-resistant material are used.
In the case of taps that are manufactured with sealing rings in the manner described above, it has now been found that the sealing rings made of a soft material can easily be lifted off the rod 11 at one point on their circumference, so that plastic is between the rod at this point and sealing ring squeezes and at this point the sealing surface of the housing is not formed by the sealing ring, but by the hard plastic of the housing, which at this point has flowed through between the sealing ring and rod up to the plug.
This phenomenon can occur in particular when particularly soft materials are used for the sealing ring, when the plastic for the housing is very thin and when injection molding takes place at high pressures.
The aforementioned disadvantages can be avoided in that the sealing rings are prefabricated from a soft, elastic material and are held on the rod 11 and in close contact with the plug by prefabricated retaining bushings g. The retaining bushings are pushed immovably onto the rod and on their side facing the chick they tightly enclose the sealing spines with an annular groove that receives the sealing rings. In Fig. 6, a cock is shown in cross section as an embodiment. During the manufacture of the tap, a rod 11 was inserted through the flow channel 7 of the cylinder 6 in the manner described above.
Prefabricated retaining bushings 30 with inserted sealing rings 31 are placed on the rod on both sides of the plug 6 and pushed firmly against the plug 6, so that the sealing rings 31 lie tightly against the plug. The bore in the holding bushes 30 is dimensioned so that the holding bushes cannot move unintentionally on the rod. The sealing rings 31 are embedded in the holding bushings 30, that is, they are surrounded by the holding bushings in such a way that no plastic can be forced between the holding bushings 30 and the sealing rings 31 during the manufacture of the housing and the sealing rings cannot move out of their intended position Location can be pushed out.
In this way it is possible to ensure that no grooves or similar signs of wear and tear that would cause small leaks are caused on the sealing surfaces even by heavily soiled Madien. The retaining bushings for the sealing rings are expediently made of the same material that is used for the housing, or a similar material, so that on the one hand the housing wall does not experience any weakening of its compressive strength and on the other hand an inept, elastic connection between the Hailto bushings and the housing is guaranteed.
For the sealing rings, on the other hand, wear-resistant, softer materials are to be used, which in addition may not be exposed to aggressive media. Depending on the type of flowing medium, for example rubber-like sealing rings made of butadiene mixed polymer with acrylonitrile or sealing rings made of non-crosslinking polymers, namely fluorine-containing polymeric halogenated olefins, can be used.
As Fig. 1 illustrates, the spindle 8 itself has been inserted into the mold 10, which is provided with an annular collar 15 and with its square, to simplify and reduce the cost of the manufacturing process as a core for Iden the spindle 8 surrounding part 9 of the Ge housing 1 8a is in engagement with the plug 6. When the cores are encased with the plastic, the attacked 8 spindle is tightly enclosed by the plastic, so that the collar 15 can prevent axial movements of the spindle 8 in the dome connector 9.
If the medium flowing through the tap should pass between the housing and 1 housing the plug 6 and press your collar 15, pressed under the seat 16 formed by the nozzle 9, this will be firmly on the a perfect seal is achieved and that the spindle 8 can escape from the housing.
The method according to the invention therefore has the advantage that taps made of plastic cannot be easily produced on the medium. Since the plug forms and rests firmly against the inner wall of the housing, which is provided with the sealing ring, and in the closed position the pressure of the medium is additionally tight against the through a perfect seal is achieved without further sealing elements sealing surfaces are pressed. As a result, no dead spaces whatsoever are formed in the tap, in which deposits from stagnant parts of the required medium could settle or in which decomposition of the stagnant parts of the medium could occur. Furthermore, stuffing boxes or other additional seals for sealing the spindle can be avoided by the method according to the invention.
The tap produced by the method according to the invention is therefore outstandingly suitable for muddy liquids, for the chemical industry, for foodstuffs and for similar areas of application where high demands are placed on shut-off valves.
The method according to the invention makes it possible, depending on the type of flowing medium and the requirements placed on the resistance of the tap, to manufacture the housing from any suitable plastics and also to use any suitable materials for the plug. For example, the plug can be made of hard rubber, glass, porcelain or corrosion-resistant steel. However, it is also possible to manufacture the plug from plastic.
There are several possibilities for this. A plastic can be used for the chick which does not bond to the plastic of the housing and whose melting point is higher than the melting point of the plastic used for the housing; z. B. the plug can be made of polytetrafluoroethylene, while Nioderdruckpolyäthyen is used for the housing, which does not bond with the plug when it is sheathed and its melting point is so low that the overmolded plug is not softened.
If a plastic is to be used for the housing which, despite a low melting point, bonds with the plastic of the plug, the plug can be provided with a lacquer coating, for example, which prevents the two plastics from joining.
The method according to the invention makes it possible to produce the housing stubs in any desired shape, so that the tap can be connected to the pipes in any way. 1 shows, for example, a threaded connector 2 for screwing on a pipeline and a flange connector 4 to which a pipeline is flanged.
As a further example, FIG. 2 shows a weld-on socket 2, onto the tapered end of which a tube can be pushed which is glued or welded to the socket. It can be placed on the rod 11 but also prefabricated nozzles or nozzles, taile and with the core. be inserted into the mold. This creates the following options, for example. During the manufacture of the valve, housing stubs made of metal can be connected to the plastic, mabenial of the housing, if metallic pipelines are to be screwed or welded onto the valve.
It is also possible to use a metal housing socket on only one side of the tap, so that iron or steel pipes can be connected to plastic pipes through the tap in the simplest possible way. Furthermore, the housing slugs can be prefabricated from a certain plastic which can be welded particularly well and easily to the plastic from which the closing pipeline consists. Furthermore, housing nozzles can be processed from a transparent material, which allow the often desired observation of the flow in the pipeline.
Since plastics, for example, depending on their coefficient of thermal expansion or depending on the wall thickness of the plastic part produced, more or less scrape in a mold during cooling, the overmolded or overmolded plug is more or less firmly enclosed by the shrunk-on plastic of the housing. This known phenomenon can, under certain conditions and when using certain plastics in the above-described method according to the invention, result in the plug being enclosed too tightly by the surfaces of the housing which are not used for sealing, that is to say which are not provided with a sealing ring difficult to turn.
This can be avoided in such a way that the chick, before it is wrapped in the mold with the plastic, is coated with a thin layer of a dissolvable material which, after the chick has been wrapped by a layer that does not attack the chick and the housing Solvent is removed. For example, the coating can consist of a thin layer of lacquer or plastic, which is then later dissolved by a solvent or by a solvent, e.g. B. an acid, is destroyed or decomposed. The selection of the material for the coating and the solvent must be made in such a way that the plastic used for the housing and the material used for the chick are not attacked.
However, the aforementioned problem can be solved in a particularly simple and advantageous manner by the method illustrated with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5. The tap removed from the injection mold 10 (FIG. 1) is inserted into a second mold designed as a blow mold 17 (FIG. 4), which consists of the mold halves 17a and 17b. The parts of the housing 1 surrounding the plug 6 are enclosed by the blow mold 17 with a small clearance 18, which is shown in an exaggerated manner in the lower part of FIG. 4 for better clarity.
The remaining parts of the housing, such as the housing stubs 2 and 4 and the stub-shaped part 9 of the housing surrounding the spindle 8, are, however, firmly enclosed by the blow mold 17. The warm housing 1 is now inflated against the walls of the mold by means of a blowing pressure introduced into the blow mold 17 (FIG. 5), so that the part of the housing 1 surrounding the plug 6 now also rests firmly against the wall of the blow mold 17. This creates a small clearance 19 between the plug 6 and the housing wall. for the sake of clarity. has been shown exaggerated in the lower part of FIG.
The chick 6 has enough play in the tap, which is now removed from the blow mold 17, so that it can be rotated to spawn. The blow mold is designed in such a way that the circular edges or surfaces in the interior of the housing at the transition from the plug chamber to the flow channels of the housing connector are not inflated, so that these edges or surfaces are embedded in those with the sealing rings and those in the closure - Position the chick together with the chick surface to create the seal, always rest firmly against the chick.
Since only those parts of the housing that do not lie firmly against the inner wall of the blow mold can be inflated, the blowing pressure can be passed through the flow channels of the housing connectors 2 and 4 into the inside of the valve. The warm housing 1 can still yield so much that the blowing pressure can propagate through between the plug 6 and the sealing rings 23. If the plug 6 is turned halfway from the open position into the closed position, the blowing pressure introduced into the housing stubs 2 and 4 can even act directly on the wall parts of the housing 1 to be inflated, bypassing the sealing rings 23.
The heating of the tap required for inflation can take place by heating the blow mold or by heating the tap in a heating cabinet before it is inserted into the blow mold.
The faucet is advantageously taken out of the first mold while it is still warm enough and immediately inserted into the blow mold, so that the energy and costs for the second heating are saved. By means of this process step, in those cases in which the plug is seated too tightly in the housing, a more easily rotatable wedge of the plug can be achieved simply and cheaply.
In the foregoing, the method according to the invention has been explained using an exemplary embodiment of an injection-molded tap and an exemplary embodiment of an injection mold used for this purpose. The sheathing of the cores with plastic can also be done by casting or pressing instead of injection molding, the processing of the plastic being carried out in a manner known per se and in known forms, just as with injection molding.
