Process for preparing an aqueous emulsion of an organic peroxide The present invention relates to a process for preparing an aqueous emulsion of an organic peroxide. This process is characterized by the fact that a linear or branched chain ethylenic fatty substance is peroxidized and that the peroxide obtained is placed in the presence of an aqueous solution with a pH greater than 7.
It results from the work of the holder that the long chain ethylenic fatty substances, from 10 to 22 carbon atoms, with or without alcohol function, once peroxidized, spontaneously form an ultramicroscopic emulsion in an aqueous medium with a pH greater than 7, of preferably between 8 and 9, and without the aid of any emulsifier (oil-in-water type emulsion)
and thus directly provide high quality products which can be used in cosmetics and therapy, without the need to add emulsifiers and without having to fear the serious drawbacks of these adjuvants. In addition, these emulsions,
due to their copic microphones are capable of rapid penetration into the skin and tissues without leaving a greasy residue.
The emulsions obtained in accordance with the invention find among others the following therapeutic applications - dermatoses, burns, bedsores of bedridden - varicose ulcers, neoplastic ulcers - leprosy - neoplastic diseases - toxaemia - pulmonary diseases (tuberculosis, silicosis) - asthenic conditions Their toxicity is negligible and they can be absorbed in high doses and for long-term treatments.
The starting fatty substances to be peroxidized are preferably neither very saturated nor very unsaturated, the former proving difficult to peroxidize and the latter not giving stable peroxides. In practice, they are generally ethylenic fatty substances of the type specified having an iodine number of the order of 50 to 150 without these values being strictly limiting. In addition, fatty substances with an index greater than 150 are generally capable of providing too easily, by auto-oxidation, compounds which are harmful to the skin and the organism.
Mention may be made, by way of examples, of olives, sesame, castor, carnation, sunflower, palm, soy, corn and mustard oils.
The peroxidation index will preferably be greater than 30 (the index 100 corresponds by definition to the presence of half a gram atom of peroxidic oxygen which can be assayed by acetonic sodium iodide in 1000 g of substance. ).
The higher the temperature at which the peroxidation is carried out, the more unstable the product obtained. In each particular case, it is necessary to study the stability of the product as a function of the oxidation temperature. In general, it is not necessary to exceed 70 ° if it is desired to obtain a stable peroxide with a high peroxide number, that is to say close to 100.
Generally speaking, the upper limit of the peroxide number will be between 40 and 100, most often between 55 and 100.
Known peroxidation processes can be used, in particular the action of oxygen at a temperature preferably greater than 200 C. This is a hydroperoxidation consisting in attaching an -O-OH radical to the hydrocarbon chains. fatty substances.
The fatty substance peroxides targeted by the invention are not only the peroxides of the fatty substances themselves, but also the peroxides of the mono or polyalcoholic esters produced on the fatty acids (total or not) contained in said fatty substances.
The structure of hydroperoxides is characterized by the presence of an -O-OH group on a carbon close to those belonging to a double bond of the hydrocarbon chain

The peroxidation will preferably be carried out under conditions precluding the possibility of formation of auto-oxidation compounds, which implies, for each fatty substance as specified, to determine a limit temperature so as not to exceed a certain temperature index. peroxidation,
these upper limits being easily determined ex perimentally in each case.
In particular, in order to be able to monitor and control the peroxidation of an oil of the type envisaged, it is advantageous to carry out a preliminary study of the reaction kinetics and to establish the curve of the variations of the peroxidation index as a function of time. At the critical point where the curve curves downwards, the oxygen absorbed no longer intervenes alone. In tests 2 to 4, summarized in the table below, the principle of bubbling described in example 1 is used.

<tb> When fatty substance peroxides have the property of spontaneously forming an ultra-microscopic emulsion, they are brought into the presence of alkaline water under conditions of pH greater than 7 and preferably between 7 and 8.
allowing them to oil the oil This property of emulsifying makes it possible to use these peroxides for the preparation of cosmetic products based on peroxidized oil, generally containing the conventional adjuvants of cosmetic products, the only difference being in the fact that emulsifiers are unnecessary in this case.
In particular, cosmetic products contain a certain number of softening, binding and antiseptic agents, to ensure a homogeneous, stable and non-irritating mixture and for good preservation of the product. ment in the peroxidation reaction but a part is used in the auto-oxidation reactions. It is then no longer possible to obtain pure peroxide.
By way of examples of fatty substances which can be used for carrying out the process according to the invention, mention may also be made of compounds, crucifers, euphorbiaceae, flacourtiaceae, grasses, guttifera, legumes, oliaceae, palm trees, papaveraceae, pedalia- cea, bacon oil, beef foot oil: their iodine indexes are between 70 and 150.
On the other hand, linen, for example, does not suit; it is very unsaturated (iodine number 175 to 182) and very easily self-oxidizing.
The following example illustrates the process according to the invention.

This bar botage operation was continued for 7 days. On the seventh day, the peroxidation index of the product obtained is measured and it is found that it is approximately equal to 20. The bubbling operation is then followed at a temperature of 40 for 5 days.
It is found that the sesame peroxide obtained is perfectly stable, free from auto-oxidation products and that it has a peroxidation number of 55.
added waxes Among the softening agents used for cosmetics, mention may be made of spermaceti, bee, isopropyl myristate, methyl cellulose, and the like.
Among the antiseptic products, mention may be made of methyl or propyl paraoxybenzoate, borax which is also slightly astringent and detergent.
The distilled water used during preparation can be orange blossom water or any other perfume at will. Here is an example of a cosmetic product.
