Folding bed The present invention relates to a folding bed. It aims to make it possible to produce a folding bed which, when it is in the folded state, can be accommodated in a relatively small space.
The folding bed according to the invention comprises a frame comprising a central element and two outer elements pivotally connected to the respective sides of the central element to allow folding upwards from the position of use in which the elements are aligned horizontally,
internal and external feet pivoting on each external element of the frame and an articulated device connecting the frame and the feet to allow the pivoting of the feet outwardly during the folding of the bed. It is characterized in that the device comprises internal connecting rods arranged between the central element of the frame and each internal leg, and external connecting rods arranged between each of the internal legs and the adjacent outer leg.
An embodiment of the object of the invention is described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a side view of the unfolded folding bed. Fig. 2 is a view similar to that of FIG. 1, but showing the parts in the folded position.
Fig. 3 is a section on a larger scale taken along line III-III of FIG. 1.
The folding bed shown has a frame comprising a central element 1 and two external elements 2 and 3, respectively articulated to the central element on either side of the latter.
Each of the two outer elements 2 and 3 consists of an incomplete U-shaped tubular metal frame, while the central element 1 com takes two connecting pieces 4 arranged on either side of the general frame of the bed. The ends of the branches of the U-shaped profile of the respective external elements are articulated to these parts 4, this articulation being produced in the manner which will be described below.
As shown in fig. 3, each connecting piece 4 is formed by a stamped section in the shape of an inverted U comprising an inner branch 5 and an outer branch 6. The closed upper part of the part 4 is shaped so as to surround the ends of the branches with play. corresponding external elements 2 and 3, each of these being articulated to the part 4 by a pin 7 disposed in the vicinity of the interested end of this part.
The two outer elements 2 and 3 have practically the same length, the latter being such that in the unfolded position shown in FIG. 1, the total length of the two outer elements and of the central element is equal to that of a normal bed. The frame thus produced is suitable for supporting a box spring attached by helical springs to the tubular elements 2 and 3 as well as to the parts 4.
To each external element are articulated two double U-shaped feet, respectively 8 and 9, arranged transversely with respect to the element considered 2 or 3, the branches of each U-shaped profile forming individual feet to support this element in the position horizontal unfolded shown in fig. 1 and being for this purpose articulated at 10 to the corresponding branches of the element. The double foot 8 of each external element is articulated at a short distance from the articulation 7 thereof to the central element 1, while the other double foot 9 is articulated to the external element considered in the vicinity of the opposite end or the closed end thereof.
The end double feet 9 are intended to switch between a position perpendicular to the elements of the bed frame when the latter is unfolded as shown in FIG. 1, and a folded down position in or against said elements when it is folded up as shown in fig. 2.
On the contrary, the double legs 8 are arranged so as to remain in the same downwardly oriented position whether the bed frame is in the unfolded position or in the folded position, so that in the latter case they serve to support the bed at the bottom. vertical position.
To ensure this operation of the feet during the folding and unbinding of the bed frame, there is provided on each side of each of the exterior elements of this frame an articulated device which connects the two feet to each other and to the central element 1.
As shown in fig. 1 and 2, this device comprises on the one hand external connecting rods 11 whose ends are articulated to the branches of the U-shaped profile of the feet 8 and 9 at a point located below the articulation 10 of the foot considered to the element corresponding,
and on the other hand internal connecting rods 12 which pivotally connect the corresponding branch of the foot 8 to the adjacent connecting piece 4 of the central element 1. For this purpose the outer branch 6 of the U-shaped profile of each piece 4 is extends downwards by shifting inwards, as indicated at 13 (FIG. 3) to receive at its ends articulation studs 14 on which the connecting rods 12 are mounted for rotation.
The closed upper part of the part 4 in question is cut at each end, as indicated at 15, to allow the external elements of the frame to be raised to the vertical position of FIG. 2.
The distance between the upper part of the part 4 and the articulation axis 14 of each connecting rod 12 is provided equal to that which separates the articulation 10 of the foot 8 to the frame and the articulation to the latter of the connecting rod 12.
The device articulated with respect to the double feet 8 and 9 and to the connecting pieces 4 is such that, in the unfolded position of the bed, these feet are oriented in the downward direction to support the frame practically horizontally, while when the external elements are raised towards their folded position, the feet 9 come to rest against the corresponding external elements of the frame, the feet 8 remaining oriented downwards with a small obliquity towards the outside,
as shown in fig. 2, to support the bed in the folded position. At the same time, and due to the aforementioned spacing of the respective articulations of the connecting rods 12 to the connecting pieces 4 and to the double feet 8, the central element 1 of the frame is lowered as the bed is folded, so that the effective height of the latter in the folded state is thereby reduced.
In addition, and due to the relative arrangement of the feet 8, the connecting rods 12 and the connecting pieces 4, the bed is held against collapse when a load is applied to the central element and this is not that when the external elements are tilted by acting on them like a lever at a point remote from this central element, that the frame can be folded.
The tilting in the opposite direction of the outer elements relative to the central element is prevented by abutting the ends of the branches of the latter against the closed upper part of the connecting pieces 4.
On the transverse part which closes the element 2 of the frame is fixed a footboard 16 inclined towards the top and which, when the bed is folded up, overlaps the end cross member of the element 3 to which it is attached. fixed in a removable manner to keep the bed closed, this fixing being provided by a bolt 17. The external element 3 carries a head 18 which is articulated to it in the vicinity of its free end, this head being able to be folded against the element in question, as shown in fig. 2, in the folded position of the bed.
