Procedure for. Production of linear quinacridone of the y-crystal phase The subject of the main patent is a process for the production of linear quinacridone of the y-crystal phase, which consists in using aqueous pastes of finely divided crude quinacridone with organic solvents, with the exception of hydrocarbons and their Halogen and nitro derivatives,
heated to temperatures of 100 to 200 C with simultaneous removal of the water. The product obtained is ideally suited for dyeing paints and plastic compositions.
In a further development of this inventive concept, it has now been found that the crude quinacridone can also be converted into its y-crystal phase if aqueous pastes of finely divided crude quinacridone with organic compounds that are soluble in water in the cold or at the reaction temperature are heated to temperatures heated from about 80 to 200 C.
As organic compounds which are soluble in water in the cold or at the reaction temperature, for example: methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, glycol, glycerine, methyl glycol, ethyl diglycol, acetone, di-oxane, dimethylformamide, N-methylacetamide, Butyrolactone, acetic acid, propionic acid, benzoic acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid,
p-Toluenesulfamide, phenol, triethanolamine, aniline, quinoline, pyridine, N-methylpyrrolidone, methyl ethyl ketone or tetramethylene sulfone.
It is advantageous to proceed in such a way that the moist crude quinacridone is mixed with the organic compound and the mixture is then heated with stirring. After the conversion is complete, the reaction product is isolated and, after removing the organic compound used for conversion, dried by washing with water, methanol or a dilute mineral acid. The most favorable temperature for the conversion depends on the crude quinacridone used and on the organic compound, it is about 100 to 180 C. The conversion is carried out in a stirrable pressure vessel in cases where the reaction mixture is above the boiling point .
For practical reasons, organic compounds are preferably used for the conversion which are large technical products and which can be easily regenerated from the aqueous mixtures.
Crude quinacridones, which are suitable for conversion into the y-phase by the inventive method, can, for. B. obtained by condensation of 2,5-dianilinoterephthalic acid with poly phosphoric acid, anhydrous hydrofluoric acid, aluminum chloride or titanium tetrachloride in trichlorobenzene or in a sodium chloride / aluminum chloride melt and subsequent hydrolysis of the reaction products obtained. Dried linear quinacridone which is not suitable for conversion can be converted into e.g.
B. from concentrated sulfuric acid or polyphosphoric acid and subsequent hydrolysis like that converted into the convertible form and converted into the y-phase by the process according to the invention.
The bluish-tinged red pigment obtained by the process indicated represents the y phase of the linear quinacridone. It is distinguished by excellent fastness properties, but above all by very good grain softness. The latter property is particularly advantageous when dyeing plasticized polyvinyl chloride, since speck-free dyeings can only be achieved with very soft-grain products.
The product is excellently suited for coloring paints and plastic masses, for the production of printing inks and paints, and for all other areas of application of organic pigments.
Example 1 100 parts by weight of 2,5-dianilino-terephthalic acid are condensed by heating to 120 to 130 ° C. in about 500 parts by weight of polyphosphoric acid with a P205 content of about 82 to 84% to form the linear quinacridone. The melt is hydrolyzed. The precipitated product is filtered off with suction and washed with water. To remove acidic components, the filter residue can be boiled with diluted alkali, if necessary with the addition of ethyl alcohol.
The product is then filtered off again and washed neutral with water. The moist raw quinacridone obtained in this way is heated to 120 to 150 ° C. in a pressure vessel with 400 parts by weight of 95% ethyl alcohol for 3 hours. After cooling, it is filtered off with suction, washed with water and dried. A bluish red pigment is obtained which, according to X-ray analysis, represents the y-phase of the linear quinacridone.
It is characterized by its soft grain and high transparency. Example 2 225 parts by weight of the moist, approximately 20% strength crude quinacridone obtained according to the information in Example 1 are stirred with 135 parts by weight of aniline, quinoline or pyridine in a pressure vessel at 130 to 150 ° C. for 3 hours.
The reaction mixture is acidified with dilute mineral acid, the pigment is filtered off with suction, washed neutral with water and dried. The linear quinacridone is obtained in its y-crystal phase. Example 3 225 parts by weight of the approximately 20% moist crude quinacridone obtained according to the information in Example 1 are stirred in 350 parts by weight of ethyl alcohol in a pressure vessel at 90 to 100 ° C. for 15 hours. After cooling, the reaction product is filtered off with suction, washed with water and dried.
It represents the y-crystal phase of the linear quinacridone and is ideal as a dye for coloring paints and plastic materials.
In the table below, further organic compounds suitable for converting the crude quinacridone and the reaction conditions are given, the γ-crystal phase being obtained in each case.

Example 5 In a pressure vessel, 140 parts by weight of 2,5-dianilino-terephthalic acid with 1000 parts by weight of anhydrous hydrofluoric acid are heated to 150 ° C. for 4 to 5 hours with stirring. Most of the hydrofluoric acid is distilled off and the residue is poured onto ice. The excess hydrofluoric acid is neutralized with sodium hydroxide solution, the pigment is then filtered off with suction and washed neutral with water. The moist crude quinacridone thus obtained is heated to 130 ° C. in a pressure vessel with 500 parts by weight of isopropanol for 5 hours while stirring.
The reaction product is worked up in the manner described in the preceding examples. The linear quinacridone is obtained in its y-crystal phase. Instead of isopropanol, methyl ethyl ketone or N-methylpyrrolidone can also be used under the same conditions.

The melt is hydrolyzed with 5000 parts by weight of ice and 500 parts by weight of 10% hydrochloric acid. The dye suspension is filtered off with suction and washed neutral with water. The moist crude quinacridone obtained in this way is heated with 1200 parts by weight of quinoline at 150 to 180 ° C. for 5 hours while stirring.
The reaction mixture is worked up as indicated in Example 2. The linear quinacridone is obtained in its y-crystal phase. Example 7 50 parts by weight of dry linear quinacridone are dissolved in 500 parts by weight of concentrated sulfuric acid with stirring at 0 ° C. in one hour. The sulfuric acid solution is hydrolyzed by pouring it into 2500 parts by weight of ice. The precipitated crude quinacridone is filtered off with suction and washed neutral with water.
Then the moist filter residue is heated with 250 parts by weight of ethyl alcohol at 150 ° C. for 5 hours. After cooling, it is suctioned off and dried. In this way the linear quinacridone is obtained in its y-crystal phase.
