dass die Nadelgarnabtrennmittel in dem anhebbaren Nähfuss und die ruhenden Spulengarnabtrennmittel in der Kehlplatte der Nähmaschine angeordnet sind und das Nadelgarn die Nadelgarnabtrennmittel während des Nähvorganges beweglich berührt, dass ferner die Zeit g2bermittel einen Zeitgebermotor, einen Haltekreis und eine Mehrzahl von an der ZeitgebermotorweIle angeordneten, drehbar;

In diesen verschiedenen Figuren tragen gleiche Bauelemente gleiche Bezugszeichen.
Device for cutting the needle and bobbin threads of a sewing machine The invention relates to a device for cutting off the needle and bobbin threads of a sewing machine.
In the industrial use of sewing machines for the mass production of sewn objects, as is the case in the clothing industry, the sales price of the sewn objects is necessarily related to the labor costs expended. Thus, reductions in the manufacturing time of a sewn object mean that such an object can be sold more cheaply, and labor-saving devices are therefore of great interest to the relevant industry.
During the sewing process, it is often necessary to cut off the needle and bobbin threads while the textile material to be sewn is arranged centrally relative to the needle, i. H. if the sewing line <B> does </B> not end at or adjacent to the edge of the textile material.
Generally, in such a case, the workpiece must be moved out of position at the end of the sewing line so that a sufficient length of needle and bobbin threads is available for manual cutting, and then the workpiece is reinserted into the correct position for the beginning of the next sewing line. After all the sewing processes have been completed, it is then necessary to trim all protruding thread ends so that the sewn item has an attractive appearance.
Such trimming of the ends of the yarn is a time-consuming operation and can contribute wesent Lich to the labor costs associated with the manufacture of a special sewn object.
In order to overcome this problem of trimming, attempts have been made so far, by means of which automatic thread trimming devices have been developed which work in such a way that only the smallest possible length of thread to be trimmed remains, which in some cases can be neglected. Such a thread cutting device has been arranged at the rear end of the presser foot in order to cut the thread by means of a vertical, downward working stroke of a cutting edge.
Such a device can of course only be used on the edge of the textile material, where the textile material is pushed out from under the needle and placed behind the senl @ right cutting device, so idass the cutting stroke only the yarns and not the textile material underneath cut up.
Thus, such vertical cutting devices are only limited, applicable and only useful in those cases where the sewing line ends at the edge of the object to be sewn.
Further mechanical cutting arrangements have been developed which cut the yarns by means of a cutting stroke in a plane parallel to the upper surface of the textile material to be sewn. Such devices can of course be used when the textile material is arranged centrally under the needle without the textile material having to be removed from the sewing machine.
However, even with cutting devices of this latter type, yarn ends with a length of about 3 mm remain, and it is therefore still necessary to re-cut these short ends manually later. The purpose of the invention is now to create a device for separating the needle and bobbin yarns in a distance of about 0.12 mm from the surfaces of the textile material, thereby eliminating the need for subsequent manual trimming, so that a considerable amount of time is saved results.
The device according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises electrically excitable, heat-generating means for the individual severing of the yarns, means for relaxing the needle yarn, means for optionally laying the bobbin yarn against said bobbin yarn severing means and timer means which can be operated by hand switches,
that the needle thread separating means are arranged in the liftable presser foot and the stationary bobbin thread separating means are arranged in the throat plate of the sewing machine and the needle thread movably touches the needle thread separating means during the sewing process, that furthermore the time transmission means a timer motor, a holding circuit and a plurality of arranged on the timer motor shaft, rotatable;
-, have n cams, ideren each operatively interacts with an assigned switch, web2i at least one switch each for the thread separating, needle tensioning and bobbin threading means and provided for the holding circuit and j, -the cams are individually designed and re relative to the other cams and the related switch as follows:
is arranged that the switch is closed during the cam rotation process in the course of a time sequence cycle in a predetermined sequence and for certain time intervals and that the separating means for burning through the yarns in contact with the same are electrically energized to generate heat.

Figure 17 is a timing diagram showing in pictorial form the sequence and duration of actuation of the various circuits in the apparatus of Figures 10-16.
In these different figures, the same components have the same reference symbols.
First with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, a conventional sewing machine head 20 is shown here, which has the usual thread guides 31, 35 and 37, a thread eye 36, a thread tensioner 32, control device 33 for the slack of the thread, thread take-up lever 34, thread holder 38, reciprocating needle bar 21, needle 22 and presser foot arrangement 25.
The presser foot arrangement 25 has a vertically displaceable presser foot shaft 26 which is actuated by the presser foot lever 27, and the presser foot 29 and the supporting presser foot shaft 28 are fastened to the presser foot shaft 26 by means of a cap screw 24. Immediately below the lowered presser foot 29 are two layers of textiles 57 and 58, some of which have been sewn together, and these layers of textiles are firmly pressed down on the valley plate 51 by means of the presser foot.
The needle 22 is shown in its raised position, and this is the position that the same then takes when the thread trimming performed who should.
Below the needle hole 52 in the fillet plate 51 is a bobbin 55, from which the bobbin thread 56 extends upward into the partially sewn textile material layers. It can be seen that the needle thread 30 is withdrawn from a thread feeder and is threaded through the various thread guides, thread tensioners and other holders downwards and through the eye of the needle 22. These components of the sewing machine and their arrangement to one another correspond completely to the conventional embodiment.
Certain other ge in Figs. 1 and 2 showed Bauelem-, nte that have not yet been described, but are auxiliary additions for the sewing machine, and are in some cases modifications of otherwise conventional construction share. In Figures 3 to 9, various views of this construction parts are shown in enlarged form for the purpose of better understanding.
As far as the modifications that are shown in Figs. 1 and 2 are concerned, these novel components are shown as auxiliary yarn pullers 40 and 60, and you can see that the modifications compared to the conventional components in the additional arrangement of the Hot wire elements lie in the presser foot 29 and the valley plate 51.
Before the interaction of all these components for cutting off yarn is described, reference should first be made to the modifications made on the presser foot 29, as shown in particular in FIGS. 3 and 4, as well as the modification the fillet plate 51 is carried out, as can be seen in particular from FIGS. 5, 6 and 7.
Reference should first be made to the modified presser foot 29 explained in FIGS. 3 and 4, which has a horizontal and transversely extending hole which is drilled through the toes 85 of the presser foot 29 which extend forward. A wire 80 is inserted into this hole and extends outwardly to each side of the presser foot 29. This wire 80, e.g.
B. may consist of chromel wire, is fixed in the hole in .einer central position by means of a putty 84 which, for. B. a high temperature it can be curing epoxy resin.
The epoxy resin cement 84 serves to isolate the Chromel wire 80 from the body of the presser foot 29 and thus prevent the Chromel wire 80 from being electrically short-circuited by the presser foot, and this latter state is impractical for two reasons .
First of all, a short circuit of the chromel wire 80 by the presser foot 29 would effectively prevent an electrical excitation current from passing through the chromel wire, so that the wire would not be heated and would therefore be ineffective for cutting the needle thread.
Second, the epoxy putty 84 creates a noticeable heat shield between the chromel wire and the presser foot 29, without the presser foot 29 acting as a heat conductor and quickly dissipating the heat generated in the chromel wire 80 if the latter were to be electrically used for cutting the thread he gets excited. In this case, the chromel wire 80 could also be disabled for this purpose.
The properties required for the putty 84 therefore consist in the fact that it is a good electrical insulation means for producing the heat shield, and the putty itself must not be due to the relatively high temperatures developed in the chromel wire 80, which can amount to 370 C. can be destroyed.
With the chromel wire 80 butt welded or otherwise a pair of copper wires 81 connected, which in turn are connected to the electrical conductors 82 and 83, which are shown in FIGS. The manner in which conductors 82 and 83 can be energized will be described in detail in connection with the discussion of FIGS. 10-16.
The relative position of the chromel wire 80 and the presser foot 29 with respect to the sewing machine needle 22 is explained in particular in FIG. 8, where it can be seen that the chromel wire 80 is practically arranged behind the needle hole 52 in the fillet plate 51: and thus belongs:
The needle 22 is present, so that the chromel wire 80 does not affect the reciprocating movement of the sewing machine needle 22 during the normal sewing processes.
With reference to FIGS. 5, 6 and 7, which illustrate the modified embodiment of the valley plate 51, it can be seen that a groove has been cut into the lower surface of the valley plate which, extending from a suitable point on the edge, : the same extends inwards, enclosing the needle hole 52.
Within this groove from a second Chromel wire 70 is arranged, which loops around the needle hole 52 and extends outwardly towards the edge of the valley plate 51 and is butt-welded at its ends with a pair of copper wires 71.
The chromel wire 70 and the copper wires 71 are fastened within the groove by means of a putty 74 be, which can be an epoxy resin of the same type as is already used for the same purposes as putty 84 above in connection with Iden Fäg. 3: and 4 is applied.
As can be seen in particular from FIG. 7, the chromel wire 70 is not completely surrounded by the putty 74, but is much more connected to the valley plate 51 with a free surface part which is brought into contact with the bobbin yarn 56 for the purpose of severing the latter can be.
The copper wires 71 are each connected to one pair of the conductors 72 and 73 which, as the chromel wire 70, supply the exciting electric current during yarn cutting. The fillet plate 51 is in the normal manner with slots 53 for the feed thumb, as shown in Fig. 5, verses, but it can be seen that the chromel wire 70 extends across the right slot.
Since the feed thumbs, which swing elliptically in the slots 53, move the textile material under (the needle 22 forwards, do not cut through the chromel wire 70 and thus interrupt the circle with the source of excitation, the in:
The feed thumb swinging the right slot 53 is arranged recessed downwards in that various of its teeth have been cut away, which results in a clear space between the feed thumb swinging back and forth and the chromel wire 70.
The thread cutting is carried out by heating the chromel wires 70 and 80 fixed in the valley plate 51 and the presser foot 29, respectively, and then bringing the needle thread 30 and the bobbin thread 56 against these wires, whereby they are burned through and cut .
From FIGS. 2 and 8 it can be seen that during part of the normal operation of the sewing machine the needle thread 30 and the bobbin thread 56 do not come into engagement with the chromel wires 70 and 80 and thus an arrangement must be provided which ensures safety that the bobbin and needle threads are inevitably pressed against these wires when you want to cut them.
If the needle thread 30 is cut while the same is under the normal tension that is maintained during the sewing process, the needle thread 30 would continue to be withdrawn through the eye of the needle 22, and one would have to remove the thread before starting the sewing again thread the needle again.
It is the special function of the auxiliary thread puller 40, which is arranged on the sewing machine head adjacent to the thread tensioner 32, that a certain passage of the needle thread 30 is achieved, so that the thread is not pulled out of the needle 22 when a thread cutter is passed through becomes. The function of the auxiliary yarn puller 60, which is arranged under the fillet plate 21 and adjacent to the bobbin 55 on.
consists in that the bobbin thread 56 is removed from its central position in the needle hole 52 of the throat plate and this bobbin thread is displaced laterally and generally to the rear into positive engagement with the chromel wire 70 which is arranged around the edge of the needle hole 52 is.
With reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 with reference to the details of the auxiliary yarn extractors 40 and 60, it follows that the auxiliary yarn extractor 40: has an arm 45 with a loop end which is fastened to a sleeve 43 by means of a cap screw 46, and that the sleeve 43 is fastened to the shaft 42 of a rotary solenoid 41 by means of a head screw 44.
The rotating magnet coil 41 is fastened to a holder 47 which in turn is fastened to the sewing machine head by means of a pair of screws 59. The rotating magnet coil 41, when excited via the liters 59 and 50, causes the magnet coil shaft 42 to rotate and to carry the arm 45 outwards away from the sewing machine head 20.
The needle yarn 30, which is passed through the loop at the end of the arm 45 when the machine is initially threaded, will protrude outwards with the arm 45. Since the needle thread 30 cannot be pulled out of the layers 57 and 58 of the sewn textile material, the tension exerted on the needle thread 30 by the rotation of the arm 45 leads to the fact that. The yarn to be withdrawn from the yarn feed is pulled through the yarn tensioner 32.
Thus, if the arm 45 then returns to the position shown in FIG. 2 when the rotary solenoid 41 is no longer excited: there is a certain slack in the needle thread 30, through which the tension of the thread is sufficiently relieved, so that the thread is prevented from being pulled out of the needle 22 when the needle thread 310 is cut by the chromel wire 80.
The auxiliary thread puller 60 assigned to the bobbin thread 56 has the same type and mode of operation as the auxiliary thread puller 40 and is so arranged relative to the d-.m bobbin thread 56 and the needle hole 52 of the valley plate 51 that the arm 61 rotates a predetermined amount of the yarn pulls outwards from the bobbin 55 .and has the result that the bobbin yarn 56 is placed firmly against the exposed surface of the chromel wire 70 in the valley plate 51.
Fig. 9 explains, for example, positions of the arm 45 of the auxiliary yarn puller 40 in the rest position and the operating position, the arrangement shown in solid lines the normal or rest position of the rotating magnet coil 41, and the dashed line shows the vzrschifte position of the arm 45 when the Rotating solenoid 41 is energized. Of course, the same effect occurs with respect to the arm 61 of the rotary solenoid which is located in the auxiliary thread puller 60, and the solenoid is excited by the conductors 62 and 63.
Before referring to FIGS. 10 to 17 with respect to the operational sequence that occurs after initiating the thread trimming process, reference is made to the arrangement through which the needle thread 30, which is normally present in front of the chrome wire 80 in the presser foot 29, is moved backwards into the cut-off position against the chromel wire.
Since it is necessary for the purpose of cutting the needle thread 30 that the needles 22 are raised in order to expose the thread, the fact that the textile material to be sewn is moved forward through the sewing machine over a path which is equal to half is used Sewing stitch is when the needle 22 is moved from its lower to its upper position.
This forward movement of the textile material by half a work step is achieved by moving the feed thumbs which reach the underside of the textile material through the slot 53 in the fillet plate 51.
One of the feed thumb 54 is shown in characterizing form in Fig. 8, where you can see in the same way that this moves forward, the textile material by half a stitch, the needle yarn 30 moves back a sufficient distance so that the same in engagement with the chrome wire 80 comes, and one sees in the same way that the bobbin thread 56 has been pushed back in the same way by the arm 61 of the auxiliary thread puller 60,
so that it is in firm engagement with the exposed surface of the chromel wire 70, which is embedded in the underside of the valley plate 51.
In summary, it can thus be stated that the general sequence of work steps is as follows. First, the sewing machine must be stopped with the needle 22 in the raised position, exposing the needle thread 30, and the textile material moved back half a stitch in order to bring the needle thread 30 and the bobbin thread 56 into the correct position.
Then the actual yarn cutting process is initiated, in which the auxiliary yarn pullers 40 and 60 are energized while achieving a corresponding slack in the needle yarn 30 and a positive engagement of the bobbin yarn 56 with the chromel wire 70.
Finally, the chromel wires 70 and 80 are sufficiently excited to burn through the needle thread 30 and the bobbin thread 56, thereby completing the thread cutting process.
After the general embodiment of the yarn cutting process according to the invention has now been erlau tert, reference is made below to FIGS. 10-17, in which the control device for the selective excitation of the rotary solenoid coils and the chromel wires for the yarn cutting in a special, temporal sequence in individual is explained.
Referring now to Figure 10, a transformer 90 having a primary winding 91 is connected to an AC source by conductors 113 and 114 which has three independent windings 92, 93 and 94.
The secondary winding 92 is connected to a pair of crystal rectifiers 95 in a full-wave rectifier circuit, and the DC voltage obtained here is fed to the magnetic coil 64 of the auxiliary thread puller 60 via the conductors 63 and 62 via the switch 108 when ( the latter is closed.
In the same way, the equalizing voltage emitted by the full wave circuit including the secondary winding 93 and the crystal rectifier 96 is fed to the magnetic coil 48 of the auxiliary yarn puller 40 via the conductors 49 and 50 via the switch 107 when the latter is closed.
One end of the secondary winding 94 is connected via a conductor 111 to the movable contacts 66 and 68 of a pair of variable resistors 65 and 67, respectively, while the other end of the winding 94 is connected to the connection point, the conductors 82 and 72, which are connected to the Chromel wires 70 and 80 are then zugeord net via the conductor 110 and the switch 109 when the latter is closed. The conductors 73 and 83 assigned to the chromel wires 70 and 80 connect one end of the regulating resistors 65 and 67, which results in a continuous electrical circuit when the switch 109 is closed.
The variable resistors 65 and 67 are shown here connected in series with the Chromel wires 70 and 80 and are therefore effective to control the magnitude of the current through these wires within limits that are determined by the largest and smallest settings of the movable contacts 66 and 68 of the rheostats.
In general: the control resistors 65 and 67 are available for optional adjustment by the operator of the sewing machine. This enables the operator to set the control resistors so that the required size of the heating sbrom for the purpose of cutting different types of thread is achieved such as
B. a first setting for cotton yarns and another setting for nylon yarns. After the various settings of the variable resistors have been determined once, the same can be marked on a suitable plate, which is arranged behind the control button for each of the movable contacts of the variable resistor, so that a quick renewed one is easy for the desired contact positions places results.
The switches 107, 108 and 109 are shown in their normally open position and are only closed on the basis of a pressure exerted on them by the cams 103, 1.04 and 105 of the timer 100 when the cam movement is caused by the excitation of the winding 101 .the timer motor is initiated and maintained.
The remaining cam 102 of the timer 100 operates the hold switch 106 so as to keep the winding 101 of the timer motor energized during the yarn trimming cycle and to disable the timer after this operation is complete. The winding 101 of the timer motor is energized by the same AC source that energizes the primary winding of the transformer 90, such winding energization being controlled by a switch.
The path of the current flow through the winding 101 can be from a connection terminal of the AC power source to the lower end of the winding 101 via the conductors 113 and 112, through the winding 101 and from the upper end of the winding to the pole of the switch <B> 106 Be followed via the conductor 119. The normally .open left contact of switch 106 is fed back to the other side of the alternating current source via conductor 115, where the latter is connected to the lower contact of switch 122.
The right contact of switch 106 is connected via conductor 116 to the pole of switch 122 via normally open switch 123. In order to energize the timer motor, the pole of switch 122 is off. Its normally open upper contact transferred to the lower contact, which then closes the electrical circuit from the alternating current source via the winding 101 of the timer. With the pole of.
Switch 122 is connected to the pole of a second switch 121 shown in a normally open position, and the pole of switch 121 is connected to a conductor 117 of an external circuit (not shown), and the bottom contact of switch 121 also protrudes with the same external circuit,
the conductor 118 in connection. The two switches 121 and 122 are connected for simultaneous actuation and can optionally be combined into a double-pole control switch. The switches 121 and 122 are operated by the operator and represent the switches that initiate the thread trimming process.
Taking into account the remarks made above, according to which the sewing machine needle 22 must be in its raised position when the thread trimming process is initiated, it shows that it would be extremely useful to avoid the burden of turning relieve the flywheel by hand in order to lift the needle,
when the operator wishes to cut the needle and bobbin threads. The switch 121 is provided in such a way that it automatically lifts the needle at the same time as initiating the thread cutting process, provided that the sewing machine is already provided with the automatic sewing needle arrangement mechanism as described in US Pat 2 <B> 961591 </B>.
In this regard, the switch 121, when actuated by the operator, performs the same function as the knee switch 109 in FIG. 10 of this above patent in that the circuit between the conductors 110 and 111 is closed in the manner shown there .
Referring to FIG. 10, the normally open switch 123 is provided so that the winding 101 of the timer motor is not energized until the sewing machine has been stopped. The switch 123 can be used in the footboard mechanism of the sewing machine in such a way that the same is open when the footboard is pressed down to operate the sewing machine, and closes when the footboard is no longer pressed down, and thus the sewing machine is brought to a stop.
The arrangement of the switch 123 is of course optionally possible and may not need to be carried out to whoever. In Figures 11-16, switch 123 would normally be closed and thus it is not shown in these figures.
The diagram of FIG. 17 illustrates the closing conditions for the switches 106, 107, 108 and 109 relative to one another during the yarn trimming operation, and the duration of the conditions indicated in each of these successive diagrams of FIGS. 11 to 16 are in the diagram shown in Fig. 17 mutually related.
In the following description of FIGS. 11 to 16, reference is made simultaneously to FIG.
With reference to the conditions shown in FIG. 11, assume that the sewing machine has been stopped and that the operator has operated the switches 121 and 122 connected to one another. The switches 121 and 122 are preferably momentary switches and are not required by the operator. or to be kept closed by some locking mechanism.
Operation of switches 121 and 122 causes the sewing machine needle to be raised by operation of the above-mentioned automatic needle bearing assembly mechanism, and a circuit from an AC power source through i the winding <B> 101 </ B > of the timer motor closed.
The current flow through the winding 101 of the timer motor is shown very clearly in FIG. 11 and can be followed from the AC source, through the conductor 115 and via the right contact of the switch 106 through the now closed switch 122 and conductor 116.
From switch 106, the current flows through conductor 119 to the top of winding 101 of the timer motor and then down through the winding and back to the other terminal of the AC power source via conductor 112 Energizing the timer motor causes the motor shaft that supports cams 102, 103, 104 and 105 to rotate.
None of the switches 106-109 are actuated approximately 50 milliseconds after initiating the thread trimming operation, as can be seen from the timing diagram of FIG. The interval of 50 milliseconds ensures that there is sufficient time for the sewing machine needle to be raised to its upper position.
After this time has elapsed, the cam 102 has been rotated sufficiently. so that the pole of the switch 106 is transferred from its right contact to its left contact, as can be seen from FIG. 12, and this results in a current flow through the winding 101 of the timer motor to the conductor 115 by means of Bridging the conductor 116 and switch 122.
As soon as the momentary switch 122 is now opened (as also shown in FIG. 12), the excitation of the winding <B> 101 </B> of the timer motor is not interrupted, but rather maintained by the holding circuit created by the transfer of the pole of switch 106 results.
The timer motor continues to run and: rotates the shaft to which the cams 102-105 are attached for about 2 seconds after the pole of the switch 122 has been switched and during the first 150 milliseconds of this period none of the switches will B> 107, </B> 108 or 109 closed.
Thus, the rotary solenoids 48 and 64 remain in the de-energized state, and no exciting current is delivered to the chromel wires 70 and 80. FIG. 12 explains the states after approximately 150 milliseconds have elapsed after initiating the yarn cutting process by closing switches 121 and 122. At this point in time, the cams 103 and 104 close the switches 107 and 108, respectively, where the rotary solenoids 48 and 64 are excited.
The auxiliary yarn pullers 40 and 60 are thus excited, and the arms 45 and 61 turn in the manner described above and moved for the purposes explained. The cam 105 has, however, rotated into a position that causes the switch 109 to close, and thus the chromel wires 70 and 80 remain in the de-energized state. The states of Fig. 12 are maintained for about 150 milliseconds, and at the end of this period of time, the cam 103 of the timer 100 opens the switch 107,
whereby the magnetic coil 48 of the auxiliary thread puller 40 is no longer excited, which is assigned to the needle thread.
The states that arise in the next 50 milliseconds are shown in FIG. 13 and it can be seen that the magnetic coil 64 of the auxiliary thread puller 60 remains in the excited state through the switch 108, whereby the bobbin thread 56 against the chromel wire 70 in FIG the .Kehlplatte 51 is held.
The bobbin thread 56 is thus prepared for the Abschnei when the chromel wire 70 is subsequently excited and the needle thread 30 has a substantial reduction in its tension e @ drive, whereby a removal of the thread from the needle 22 in the subsequent He excitement Chromel. Wire 80 is prevented.
After completion of the interval of 50 milliseconds, within which the states according to FIG. 13 are present, the cam 105 of the timer 100 closes the switch 109, as shown in FIG. 14, and thereby becomes the chromel wires 70 and 80 are excited by the secondary winding 94 of the transformer via the conductors 110, 111 and the variable resistors 65 and 67.
Of course, the cam 104 of the timer 100 holds the switch 108 in its closed position, as a result of which the magnetic coil 64 of the auxiliary thread puller 60 is held in its excited state and the bobbin thread 56 is held firmly against the chrome wire 70. The conditions according to FIG. 14 are maintained for about 50 milliseconds, after which the cam 105 enables the timer 100 to open; the switch 109, as a result of which the chromel wires 70 and 80 are no longer energized.
It has been found that 50 milliseconds is a sufficient amount of time to cause various types of needle and bobbin thread to separate.
When the switch 109 is opened, the conditions explained in FIG. 14 are changed in accordance with those according to FIG. 15, and it can be seen from this figure that the timer continues to be through the holding circuit due to the excitation of the winding 101 of the timer motor of the switch 106 is excited, and the magnetic coil 64 of the auxiliary thread puller 60 is still in its excited state.
The conditions of FIG. 15 are maintained for about 100 milliseconds, and at the end of this period of time, the cam 104 of the timer 100 allows the switch 108 to be opened, whereby the solenoid 64 of the auxiliary thread puller 60 is no longer energized and it the conditions as shown in FIG. 16 thus result.
Up to this point, a time interval of about 500 milliseconds is required for the entire process, as can also be seen from the diagram in FIG. 17, and the timer motor continues to run for another 1500 milliseconds, during which time only the switch 106 is controlled by the Cam 102 is kept ge in its operative position.
After completion of this entire time interval of 2 seconds, which begins with the initiation of the thread cutting process, the cam 102 of the timer 100 enables the switch 106 to transfer its pole from the left contact to the right contact, thereby creating the holding circuit for the motor winding 101 is interrupted. Thus, the timer motor stops, and the conditions shown in Fig. 10 result.
In some cases it may prove useful to provide a safety interlock arrangement by which the transferring of the pole of the switch 106 to form the holding circuit for the winding of the timer motor results in the sewing machine not being able to operate until the thread trimming process starts Has been completed. Although: this is not shown, such a locking arrangement can very easily be incorporated into the Garnschnittvorrichtung, in the z.
B. the switch 106 is provided with a second pole and associated normally open contact. This second pole and associated normally open contact can be connected in series with a source of excitation current and a solenoid, the solenoid acting as a locking bolt or other latch mechanism when energized, locking the footboard of the sewing machine,
which prevents the sewing mechanism from working during the thread cutting process. After the end of the thread trimming process, namely when the switch 106 has been returned to its normal position, the second pole of the same would of course be released from the engagement with the associated contact, whereby the magnetic coil is no longer energized with the footboard exposed .
