Distance protection relay arrangement with elliptical tripping characteristics for AC or three-phase lines In the case of distance protection relays it is common to enter the tripping characteristics in a diagram with Cartesian coordinates. In most cases the reactances are plotted on the ordinate and the effective resistances on the abscissa. The tripping characteristic of a simple impedance relay is a circle, the center of which coincides with the origin of the coordinate axes.
Since each line has a specific ratio of active and reactive resistance per unit length, a transmission line can be shown in the diagram as a straight line that goes through the origin of the coordinates and has an angle to the abscissa corresponding to the ratio of reactive and active resistance.
A simple impedance relay with a circular trigger characteristic now speaks regardless of the phase angle of the current flowing at the relay location with respect to the voltage when a certain impedance value is undershot. If the impedance value is not reached due to a fault on the line, the phase angle between current and voltage at the relay location will correspond to the resistance ratio of the line to be protected. A slight deviation can occur if an electric arc occurs at the fault location.
In the event of a load surge or with certain load cases, however, it can also happen that the impedance value set on the impedance relay is not reached without there being a fault on the line. In most cases, however, the phase angle between current and voltage at the relay location will differ considerably from that in the event of a line fault.
In order to take this deviation into account, distance protection relay arrangements are already known whose tripping characteristics are shifted circles or straight lines. It is also known to additionally provide directional relays to achieve the directional sensitivity or to select circles as the trigger characteristic that go through the zero point of the coordinate system. There are also distance protection relays with elliptical release characteristics known.
This tripping characteristic is achieved by rectifying an electrical quantity that is proportional to the current and comparing it in a bridge circuit with the sum of two other electrical quantities that are also rectified, one of which is the geometric sum of current and voltage, the other the geometric difference of Current and voltage at the relay location correspond. This circuit gives an elliptical release characteristic in which the main axis of the ellipse coincides with the abscissa, i.e. the R axis.
With this characteristic curve, however, it is to be achieved with the known that also faults with a simultaneously occurring arc are detected. It is also possible to build relay arrangements that are insensitive to values of low impedance if at the same time the phase angle deviates significantly from the phase angle between the current and voltage in the event of a fault on the transmission line. This can be achieved by using one or more auxiliary relays or by using a relay with a non-circular tripping characteristic of a certain shape.
The present invention is also based on the object of creating a distance protection relay arrangement which only responds when, at the same time as the impedance value falls below a certain value, a certain phase angle between current and voltage occurs at the relay location. A relay arrangement can meet this requirement in that it has an elliptical characteristic curve with a relatively small secondary axis, the main axis of which has approximately the same inclination as the characteristic curve of the line to be protected.
While with the new relay arrangement, the elliptical characteristic is obtained, as with the familiar, by comparing the amounts of an electrical quantity proportional to the current with the sum of the amounts of two other electrical quantities, one of which is the geometric sum and the other of the geometric difference of the current and voltage at the relay location, the invention consists in that at least one compensator connected on the primary side to a current transformer is provided as the source for the current proportional electrical variables, the alternating current resistance of which can be adapted to that of the line to be protected.
Details can be seen from the following description and from the drawings, in which an exemplary embodiment is dealt with in detail.
In Fig.l a graphical representation of the operating characteristics of the new relay arrangement is provided, on which the ohmic resistances are plotted along the horizontal axis and the inductive resistances along the vertical axis.
Fig. 2 shows a vector diagram showing certain relationships between currents and voltages in the Stromkrei sen of the relay arrangement and is used to understand the following statements. In Fig. 3 is a schematic representation of a Ausführungsbei game of the invention and in Fig. 4 shows a modification of the same.
From Fig. 1 it can be seen that the impedance of an AC circuit - e.g. B. a part of an AC transmission line - may correspond to a point in the diagram drawn in FIG. In this diagram, the effective resistance is plotted on the horizontal coordinate axis R and the reactance on the vertical coordinate axis X. The amount of an impedance then corresponds to the length of a radius vector between the point in question and the origin of the Koordi natensystems F. Any straight line, such as. B.
FF ', which runs through the origin F, is the geometric location of all impedances with changeable amounts, all of which include the same phase angle, that is, all impedances that have the same ratio of active and reactance components.
The amount of impedance of any existing line is a measure of the distance from the measurement location to the fault location. In an extensive network there are a large number of generator stations in different locations. In addition, consumers are scattered across the entire pipeline system. It is very desirable that not all generators and consumers are switched off at the same time if a fault occurs at any point in the network. This can be avoided by only switching off parts of the line system in the vicinity of the fault, while generators and load consumers further away are still connected to the lines and can therefore continue to work undisturbed.
A distance relay, which triggers a neighboring circuit breaker only when the impedance measured by it is so low that a fault must be within a certain section, is able to meet this requirement, since other relays operated by the short-circuit point are further away, do not respond. The route FF 'in Fig. 1, which goes through the coordinate origin F and which the angle ss = arc tg
EMI0002.0032
with the R-axis can be viewed as a graphical representation of the line impedance.
The letters <I> r </I> and <I> x </I> correspond to the ohmic and inductive resistance of the cable per unit of length. A point G on this route at a certain distance from the coordinate origin F corresponds to the line section that is to be protected by the relay. This defines a critical impedance value which, when exceeded, the relay should not excite the trip coil of a circuit breaker. If it falls below this value due to any short-circuit fault, the relay should trip the associated circuit breaker.
In modern networks, consumers are usually connected whose impedance is so small that they are within the critical zone, often also called the range of the relay. But this consumer usually has impedances with a phase angle that differs from the phase angle of the line. These consumers appear in the diagram in Fig. 1 by points that are not on the route FF ', but mostly more facing the R axis.
A normal impedance relay, which triggers the scarf ter at a certain amount of impedance, has as a tripping characteristic a circle whose center coincides with point F in FIG. If a consumer is connected to a line section, the associated impedance relay measures a total impedance, which is made up of the impedance of the consumer and the line impedance between the consumer and the relay. If the consumer is not far from the relay, this entire impedance measured by the relay can be less than the critical value given by the relay's tripping characteristics.
For this reason, the circuit breaker can be triggered by the relay, although the phase angle of the total impedance is smaller than that of the line. In practice it is desirable if a relay responds only when an impedance with a certain phase angle is below half a critical value and if it does not respond when an impedance with a similar amount and a different phase angle is present.
In order to achieve this, the new distance protection relay arrangement contains an ellipse as a tripping characteristic, the main axis of which corresponds to the impedance angle of the transmission line to be protected and which has a relatively small secondary axis.
The curve 9 in FIG. 1 is a schematic representation of such an elliptical tripping characteristic for a relay. It has focal points F and F '. The point F coincides with the origin of the coordinate system. The angle ss represents the angle of the line impedance. The point G lies on the section FF 'at an impedance which corresponds to the impedance of the line section to be protected. In the case of an ellipse, it is known that the sum of the guide rays from an ellipse point P to the focal points F and F ', here called Z and Z., is equal to the magnitude of the main axis Z. of the ellipse.
It can be shown that
EMI0003.0011
is. Where Z is the distance between the focal points and F. It can also be shown that the minor axis is the same
EMI0003.0012
and that the eccentricity e equals 2- '. The distances Z, Z., and Z, in this equation, are scalar quantities. Complex quantities are indicated in this description with a point above it, e.g. B. Z, designated.
In Fig. 1, the path FP represents the impedance of a consumer measured by the relay plus that of the line part between the relay and the consumer and also shows the maximum Im pedance at which the relay triggers the associated power switch. The product of the complex quantities IZ of the line current 1 and the impedance Z represents the voltage of the line at the relay location. O is the phase angle between the voltage and the current of the line.
The following applies to the impedance Zg, which is given by the point G in FIG
EMI0003.0023
this results in
EMI0003.0024
if the desired range of the relay and the eccentricity e of the elliptical tripping characteristic are known.
The invention can be used to protect single-phase and multi-phase electrical systems. 3 shows an embodiment of a one-phase electrical transmission line, the transmission frequency of which is 60 Hz. The conductors are labeled L1 and L2. This line can just as well be viewed as one phase of a multi-phase electrical transmission line.
The line is divided into a first section LS1 and a second section LS2. These sections are connected via a relay station to a circuit breaker CB, which contains a trip coil CBT and a normally open contact CBI. A current transformer CT and a voltage transformer <I> VT </I> are connected to the conductors L1 and L2.
The relay arrangement shown in Fig. 3 protects the line section LSl.
In series with the secondary winding of the current converter CT, the primary winding of a current converter 11 and the adjustable primary winding of a compensator 12 are connected. This compensator has a certain reactance and an adjustable load resistor 19, which determines the phase position between the primary current and the secondary induced voltage.
The secondary winding of the current transformer 11 is connected via a rectifier arrangement to a counter stand 17, where a DC voltage 1 "'Z"' occurs, the size of which is proportional to the amount of the line current. In the solution shown in FIG. 3, two rectifiers 14 and 15 are connected with their anodes to the ends of the secondary winding of the current transformer 11. The cathodes of the rectifiers are connected to the positive connection of the resistor 17. The negative connection of the resistor is connected to a center tap of the secondary winding of the current transformer 11.
An adjustable load resistor 13 is connected in parallel to the secondary winding of the current transformer 11 ge. A smoothing capacitor 16 is parallel to the resistor 17.
The outputs of the compensator 12 and the voltage converter <I> VT </I> are connected in series and are parallel to the input terminals of a two-way rectifier 21. The output of this rectifier is connected via a load resistor 27 and a smoothing capacitor 26. This results in a DC voltage E "'which is applied to resistor 27 and depends on the magnitude of the voltage EX.
The voltage converter 18 has a primary winding which is connected in parallel to the secondary winding of the voltage converter <I> VT </I>.
The secondary winding of the voltage converter 18 supplies a DC voltage E ', which drops across the resistor 25 and which is proportional to the line voltage E, via a rectifier arrangement. In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, the anodes of two rectifiers 22 and 23 are connected to the ends of the secondary winding of the voltage converter 18 for this purpose. The cathodes of the rectifier are connected to the positive terminal of the counter stand 25. The negative connection of the resistor is connected to a center tap of the secondary winding of the voltage converter 18.
A smoothing capacitor 24 is parallel to the resistor 25.
From FIG. 3 it can be seen that a total voltage EP <I> = E '+ Ex - </I> LJZJ is applied to the base and emitter of an npn transistor 32, to a resistor 29 and to a rectifier 31. The rectifier is polarized in such a way that a current can only flow if the voltage 1;, 'Z3' is greater than the sum of the voltages E + E, '. The transistor 32 is permeable.
A rectifier 34 is connected between the emitter and base of the transistor. It allows a current to flow from the emitter to the base connection if the voltage is polarized in such a way that the transistor remains blocked. It protects these connections against damage that can occur due to flowing reverse currents.
If the transistor is controlled to be permeable, flows - due to the voltage drop at the resistor 17 - a current through the collector and emitter of the transistor and a resistor 33 connected in series. The voltage drop across the resistor 33 is used to excite the trip coil CBT via the normally open contact CBI to trip the circuit breaker CB. If necessary, the release coil can be preceded by an amplifier to increase the useful energy of the release coil CBT.
The npn transistor can also be replaced by a pnp transistor with a correspondingly modified circuit.
The relay arrangement in Figure 3 compares the amount of the voltage IZa with the sum of the amounts of the voltages E and EX. If these compared amounts are equal, the transistor is blocked. This corresponds to an error at the balance point, i.e. at the limit of the range of the relay arrangement.
The amount of IZa exceeds the sum of the amounts of E + Ex if the impedance measured by the relay is less than that of the line route to the balance point. In this case, the transistor becomes conductive and trips the circuit breaker.
The sum of the amounts of E +, g exceeds the amount 1Z3 if the impedance measured by the relay is greater than that of the balance point. In this case, the transistor remains blocked and the power switch is closed.
As already stated, this circuit of the transistor results in an e'll'iptic characteristic of the relay arrangement.
It is common to divide a transmission line into individual sections that are connected to each other via relay stations with circuit breakers. Each relay station of the neighboring circuit breaker is provided with a relay arrangement with three zones. The first zone protects from the relay station, for example <B> 90% </B> of the protected line section. The relay arrangement for this zone works with a negligibly small time delay.
A second zone extends over the following line section and is provided with a time delay of about 0.25 seconds. The third zone adjoins the second, the impedance relay provided for this is equipped with a time delay of around 1 to 2 seconds. Each relay arrangement for one of the three zones can be constructed similarly to that which is shown in FIG. In any case, the range of the relay (the length of the route FG in FIG. 1) is set to the impedance which the section of the line to be protected has. Suitable time delay elements are provided for the second and third zones.
If a relay arrangement - as shown in Fig. 3 is - used, certain errors that occur on the route behind the relay, that is, in the opposite direction, cause the relay ver to trigger the circuit breaker. To turn off this third quadrant, a direction measuring element can also be provided, for. B. a direction relay DR is connected upstream of the input circuit of the transistor, the contact of which is open if the fault is in the direction not to be protected. In the same way, the input circuit of the transistor can be separated by opening a switch S when the contacts of the direction relay DR actuate the switch S.
By other circuit measures it can be achieved that the point H of the ellipse 9 in Fig. 1 coincides with the origin of the diagram, such as. B. is indicated by the dashed line ellipse 9a. This can be achieved by adding a current-dependent voltage between the voltage converters VT and 18, as it is, for. B. is shown in FIG. In FIG. 4, a current-dependent voltage is picked up by a transducer 41, the construction of which can be similar to that of the compensator 12.
The primary winding of the transducer is connected in series with the primary windings of the current transformers 11 and 12 in FIG. 3 via lines 41A and 41B. The connecting piece 41C between the conductors 41A and 41B is omitted in this case. The secondary winding 42 of the transducer is connected in series with the secondary winding of the voltage converter <I> VT, </I> so that a resulting voltage for the excitation of the primary winding of the voltage converter 18 is present. The voltage of the secondary winding of the transducer 41 can be adjusted so that a shift of the ellipse in the desired direction with a selectable amount is possible, please include.
If an error occurs in the vicinity of the relay location, the line voltage can take on such a low value that it is no longer possible to operate the relay properly. For this reason, memory elements are provided in FIGS. 3 and 4, which maintain a sufficient amount of voltage for a short time and thus ensure the proper functioning of the relay arrangement.
Parallel resonant circuits, which contain an inductance 46 and a capacitor 45, are tuned to the mains frequency and are connected in parallel to the primary winding of the voltage converter 18 in FIG. 3, can serve as memory elements. It is just as possible - as shown in FIG. 4 - to connect a coil 46a with a capacitor 45a in series to the secondary winding of the voltage converter <I> VT </I>.
If a resistor 47 is connected between the parallel connection of the coil 46 with the capacitor 45 and the secondary winding of the voltage converter <I> VT </I>, this prevents a fault on the line in the vicinity of the relay station, the parallel circuit ineffective by short-circuiting, In Fig. 3, the length of the main axis of the ellipse can be adjusted with the resistor 13. The value of the angle ss in FIG. 1 can be changed by the phase position of the output voltage of the compensator. The amount of this voltage is used to adjust the distance between the focal points F and F 'in FIG.
