Process for the preparation of aliphatic unsaturated aldehydes, in particular acrolein
The production of acrolein by the catalytic oxidation of propylene with oxygen or oxygen-containing gases has already been proposed several times. So describes the DBP. 941 428 a mode of operation that consists in using catalysts made of copper, chromium, vanadium, manganese or other metals, which can optionally be applied to supports, to oxidize propylene with air in the temperature range around 300 to acrolein. Both catalysts that work on the fluidized bed principle and those that are fixed in pipes are named for this process.
It has been found that particularly favorable results in terms of yield, conversion, service life of the catalysts, etc. are obtained when solid to prepare aliphatic unsaturated aldehydes with 3-6 carbon atoms by reacting olefins of the same carbon number with oxygen or oxygen-containing gases in the presence arranged, granular, oxidic catalysts works in such a way that the catalyst layer is arranged in tubes cooled from the outside with a length of at least 5 m and a clearance of between 20 and 75 mm and that the flow rate of the mixture of all reaction participants, based on the empty tube and Normal conditions, at least 30 cm / sec. amounts.
The results obtained with a flow rate between approximately 50 and 200 cm / sec. be achieved. The catalyst layer should preferably lie in tubes which are longer than 10 m and in particular have a clear width of more than 30 mm. For the process of the invention it is expedient if the gas mixture entering the synthesis tube furnace contains 5-25, preferably 10-20, volume olefins.
The new process makes it possible to dilute the olefins to be used — with saturated hydrocarbons of the same carbon number, with up to 4 parts by volume of saturated hydrocarbons being present for 1 part by volume of the olefins.
The heat dissipation conditions are particularly favorable if the temperature of the coolant is kept to about 10-50, preferably about 10-35, lower than the highest temperature of the catalyst layer.
The advantages of carrying out the reaction according to the invention with fixed catalysts in the production of, for example, acrolein by oxidation of propylene with oxygen-containing gases in the presence of oxidic catalysts are above all a considerably longer life of the catalyst and a high level of activity and in excellent selectivity, i.e. H. Avoidance of unwanted side reactions.
In addition, the oxidic catalyst used needs to be regenerated at certain time intervals. en due to a-gerixfgelt = decrease in activity due to carbon deposition in the reaction furnace itself can be carried out in a simple manner by switching off, for example, the propylene flow and possibly the water vapor, while maintaining defined temperatures is also extremely simple.
In order to dissipate the heat of reaction in pipes with fixed catalytic converters, compliance with a minimum flow rate is an essential prerequisite. This should be so high that a turbulent flow is achieved: This goal is achieved, for example, if the 4 flow velocity, based on the empty pipe; and-normal conditions, at least 30 cm / sec.-be; wearing. Particularly favorable conditions exist when the flow velocity is between 50 cm / sec. And 200 cm / sec. amounts.
The grain size of fixed catalytic converters is also important. To avoid an excessively high resistance, it must not be too low. It has been found that grain fractions between approximately 1.5 and 6 mm, preferably 2-5 mm, have only a relatively low resistance.
The method of working with catalysts fixedly arranged in tubes also enables the use of temperature gradients, both horizontal and vertical temperature gradients. The horizontal temperature gradient should be the temperature difference between the center of the catalyst and the pipe wall, which should be between about 10 and 50, preferably between about 10 and 35 when the invention works, such that the coolant has a correspondingly lower temperature compared to the center of the catalyst.
The vertical gradient, which represents the temperature difference in the cooling liquid and is also present in the first approximation in the catalyst layer, is generally 3-10, preferably 3-5. By using liquid mixtures instead of a single connection on the cooling side for heat dissipation, it is possible to achieve a higher vertical temperature gradient, which can for example be up to about 50 ° C. in pipes with a length of about 10 m.
The concentration of the olefin with 3 to 6 carbon atoms, in particular 3 and 4 carbon atoms, which is used according to the invention, in the total gas mixture is expediently 5-25% by volume; it is advantageous to work when the concentration is between 10 and 20% by volume. 0 / Q. The concentration of the olefin to be used, for example propylene, can be 100%, but the use of a 100% olefin is not absolutely necessary; in the case of propylene, technical Cs can also be used with just as good success Fractions, e.g.
B. from refining or cracking processes in which the olefin concentration is more or less lower and, for example, is only about 20 "/ o.
Example 1
Into a synthesis pipe of 10 m length and 32 mm 1. W., which was heated electrically via a jacket pipe that contained a terphenyl-diphyl mixture with about 80 ouzo diphyl as a filling and which was followed by air and water cooling with the appropriate templates 8 liters of a catalyst consisting of 7.1 "/ o MoO, 8.4 / o Bi203 and 84.5 / o silica were filled in. The catalyst was made of technical molybdic acid with about 85 / o MoO3 content, bismuth nitrate ( Bi (N03) 3 + 5 H20), 23 ccm HNO3 concentrated with the addition of a finely powdered silica known as Aerosil unpressed.
After adding sufficient amounts of water to the starting components, the paste-like mass was deformed by means of a thread press to a thread grain of 5 mm in diameter and about 1-5 mm in length. The mass was then dried at 105-110 for 24 hours and then calcined by heating to 350 for one hour and leaving it at this temperature for 30 minutes. About a water saturator, which had been set to a temperature of 66 C, were 1200 normal liters / hour. Air saturated with water vapor. Then 185 normal liters of a C3 mixture containing 62.5% propylene, the remainder propane and small amounts of other hydrocarbons were added.
The Cg hydrocarbons were added immediately upstream of the synthesis pipe, and the temperature of the pipeline between the saturator and the reactor was set to about 150 in order to rule out any condensation of water.
The reaction mixture leaving the furnace was initially cooled to about 40-50 ° C. by means of the air cooler. By far the largest amount of water has already been excreted, after which further amounts of water in the residual gas were condensed by a downstream water cooler.
The organic compounds present in the residual gas, in particular acrolein and acetaldehyde, were partly obtained in a water scrubber equipped with spray nozzles, partly by deep condensation.
Based on the propylene used, a propylene conversion of 70 I / o was achieved at a synthesis temperature of 395 (measured in the jacket) and an inlet pressure of 0.65 atm. 72! o of the converted propylene were obtained as acrolein, a further 5-6 I / o as acetaldehyde and about 2 / o as acrylic acid; in addition, small amounts of acetic acid were detected.
Example 2
In a further experiment, a catalyst consisting of 10.7 / o MoO, 12.7 / o Bi2O °, the remainder being Aerosil, was used. Production was carried out in the same way as that of the catalyst described in Example 1. At a saturator temperature of At 64 ° C., 1300 normal liters of air / hour and 120 normal liters of propylene / hour were passed over the catalyst. The propylene was used as a 65% propylene / propane mixture.
The propylene conversion achieved at a jacket temperature of 400 was 73%. Of the converted propylene, 70 ouzo were obtained as acrolein, 6-7 "/ o were obtained as acetaldehyde and 2 ouzo as acrylic acid.
In this experiment the vertical temperature gradient in the catalyst was 21, the horizontal temperature gradient in the catalyst was about 5 at the top and about 15-18 at the bottom.
Example 3
By increasing the synthesis pressure to 2.5 atmospheres, the propylene conversion could be increased to 75-76 "/ o. About 80 ouzo of the converted propylene were obtained in the form of acrolein and acetaldehyde.
Example 4
Into a synthesis pipe of 10.5 m length and 33 mm 1. W., which was electrically heated via a jacket pipe, which contained a terphenyl-diphyl mixture with about 25 oxo terphenyl as a filling and air and water cooling with the appropriate Subsequently, 8.5 liters of a catalyst consisting of 4.5 / o Bi203.7.3 "/ o MoOg and 88.2 / o silicic acid were introduced.
The catalyst was made of technical molybdic acid with about 85 / o MoOs content, bismuth nitrate (Bi (NOs) + 5 H20), 25 ccm HNOs conc. with the addition of a fine powdered silica known under the trade name Aerosil unpressed. After adding sufficient amounts of water to the starting components, the paste-like mass was deformed by means of a thread press to a thread grain of 5 mm in diameter and about 1-5 mm in length. The mass was then dried at 115 for 18 hours and then calcined by heating to 300 within 45 minutes and leaving it at this temperature for 30 minutes.
A water saturator that had been set to a temperature of 75 C, 1300 normal liters of air / hour. saturated with water vapor.
Then 125 normal liters of isobutylene! Hours (99.5 "/ oit). The isobutylene was added immediately in front of the reactor, the temperature between the water saturator and the reactor was kept at 150 by means of electrical heating to avoid condensation of water.
The reaction mixture leaving the furnace was initially cooled to about 50 using the air cooler. The largest amount of water has already been excreted; In the downstream water cooler, the condensation of further amounts of water present in the residual gas took place.
The organic compounds formed, in particular acrolein and acetaldehyde, were preferably obtained in a water wash equipped with spray nozzles.
Based on the isobutylene used, the conversion was 53% at a jacket temperature of 385.
Based on converted isobutylene, 63.5% were obtained in the form of α-methyl-acrolein, and about 6% more in the form of acetaldehyde, methacrylic acid, acrylic acid and acetic acid. If the reaction temperature was lowered to 375, the isobutylene conversion fell to 45%. The selectivity with regard to the yield of α-methyl-acrolein increased to about 70%.
If a catalyst consisting of 78.7 / o Bi203, 7.3 "/ o MoOg, otherwise as above, was operated under the conditions of the first experiment, an isobutylene conversion of 60 ouzo was achieved at 385.degree.
In α-methyl-acrolein, based on converted isobutylene, 66 ouzo were obtained.
