Automatic turning device for slabs in a rolling mill In the hot rolling mill, after several passes through the reversing roll, a turning device turns the glowing slabs by 90 using a turning device, so that the length becomes the width. The rotation takes place with conical rollers, which are individually driven by a motor. So far, this process has been controlled by hand with simultaneous visual observation of the slabs.
The inertia-related behavior when braking and accelerating made it very difficult to always bring the slab to a precisely defined location by hand.
The invention relates to an automatic turning device for slabs in a rolling mill, in which a scanning device provided with photo-electric receivers is arranged above the turning rollers, which can be pivoted through 90 and which controls the motors of the turning rollers to move the scanning device around the slab to follow. It suffices z. B. two scanning heads with photoelectric receivers that detect a broad edge of the slab. Due to the high temperature of the slabs of around 1000 C, they themselves act as emitters.
The edge of the slab delivers a photo pulse in each of the two scanning heads, both of which occur at the same time as long as the scanning device is parallel to the edge of the width. If the scanning device now slowly rotates through 90, the rotation process of the slab is initiated; because the two scanning heads detect the width of the slab as a result of the different distances from the edge one after the other.
The pulses of both scanning heads are accordingly shifted in time. As a result, a control voltage can be generated by means of an electrical device, which initiates and controls the slab turning process on the individual rollers. The slab is rotated until it has caught up with the predetermined direction of rotation of the scanning device and its edge is again parallel to the scanning device.
If the slab has now rotated exactly 90 and is transported further for rolling, the scanning device is expediently brought back into its starting position by means of an electronic or electrical switch.
To check whether the slab is following the rotation of the scanning device, it is advantageous if only a certain predetermined angle is allowed between the scanning device and the slab. If z. B. the scanning device is rotated through a larger angle, the drive of this device is advantageously switched off. The locking device only continues to run when the edge has reached this angle again.
In this way it is avoided that the longitudinal edge could possibly be scanned and that this would supply an incorrect measured value. The control voltage should be proportional to the angle between the scanning device and the slab.
Of course, any photoelectric system that periodically detects the position of the edge can be used to scan the edge. Both a television camera and a mechanical optical scanning device, such as. B. a rotating mirror scanner. If you use a rotary mirror scanner as a scanning head, this can z. B. consist of a polygon mirror that scans the position of the edge while rotating via optics and then images it by reflection on a photoelectric receiver.
When the two polygon mirrors rotate synchronously, they detect the position of the edge of the slab at the same time when it is parallel to the scanning device. As soon as the scanning device is rotated relative to the slab, there is a time difference between the two edge pulses, from which the control voltage for the motors of the spiral rollers can be taken via electronics.
If the two polygon mirrors do not run synchronously, you can assign a reference pulse to each polygon mirror. Each scanner then supplies a DC voltage corresponding to the position of the edge by means of an electronic device. Both DC voltages are equal in their amount when the edge of the slab is parallel to the scanning device from.
If, for example, each polygon mirror has six surfaces and an iron yoke on each edge for generating magnetic reference pulses, a pulse frequency of 300 Hz is generated at both the photoelectric and the magnetic output when rotating at 50 rpm The position of the two pulse series is a measure of the position of the edge to be monitored. If the setpoint is observed, a photo pulse falls exactly between two magnetic pulses. A bistable multivibrator and a thyratron stage can be used to obtain the same rectangular voltages shifted by 180.
If the tensions generated by the two polygon mirrors are the same, the edge of the slab is exactly parallel to the scanning device.
The figures show schematically an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 1 shows the arrangement from the side, Fig. 2 and 3 the arrangement schematically from above, namely Fig. 2 before turning and Fig. 3 during turning.
In Fig. 1, the two scanning heads 1 and 2 are rotatably mounted on a frame 3. The slab 4 lies on the roller conveyor 5.
Are according to FIGS. 2 and 3, the points 6 and 7 are schematically provided, the sampling points where z. B. the pulse is ended, - that is, when the slab is scanned from bottom to top so the corresponding photocell is no longer exposed, so is shown in Fig. 2, the pulse at the scanning point 6 and 7 ended simultaneously, and the slab lies parallel to the scanning device. If the scanning device rotates according to FIG. 3,
so the pulse corresponding to the time difference t ends later at the scanning point 6 than at the scanning point 7. The arrow on the right of FIG.
As a given angle of rotation, the angle a in Figure 3 should suffice to obtain a sufficient time difference between the pulses and at the same time no incorrect measured values occur due to scanning of the length edges.
