Dabei wird vorteilhaft der innere Haltering 3 auf eine Höhe abgedreht, die etwas kleiner als die Höhe des inneren Mantels des Dichtungswickels 1 ist, da mit die Kugel nur mit der kugelförmigen Dichtfläche in Berührung kommen kann. Der innere Haltering ist durch Wickeln eines längsgesickten Metallbandes gebildet;
Annular sealing element If two connected, rigid line parts are to be pivoted against each other with a seal to the outside, usually a line part is formed at the connection point to the other part with a spherical end piece, around the center of which the pivoting can take place. The connection between the spherical piece and the adjoining other line part is made via an annular up device element that seals between the spherical, pivotable about its center counter surface of one line part and the counter surface of the subsequent other line part.
For such sealing tasks, the example, occur in taps with spherical plugs or pipe joints, one-piece, replaceable elastic Dichtungsele elements made of rubber or a thermoplastic are normally used, which seal with their faces on the mating surfaces. The disadvantage of such sealing elements is that a very expensive mold is required for production for each size and that they can generally only be used up to a certain, relatively low operating temperature because of the materials that can be used.
Inelastic materials, such as fiber materials, have also been used for sealing elements where the element has a concave end face as a sealing surface to the spherical counter surface. In this case, however, the second sealing surface of the sealing element is formed by its jacket surface. The seal is thus achieved in that the element is wedged into the annular wedge gap which runs between the spherical counter surface and the hollow cylindrical counter surface receiving it.
To achieve a sealing effect by pressing into the wedge gap, the sealing material must be relatively soft; The required softness of the sealing element has the disadvantage that the wear on the spherical counter surface, on which thrust forces occur due to the twisting of the ball, is relatively great and that the life of the element is therefore not very long. Furthermore, due to their softness in the finished state, such elements can only be stored and assembled with great care and with difficulty before installation because they can be easily deformed; In addition, the material can easily burn when the required pressure is applied.
The aim of the invention is to create sealing elements of the type mentioned at the outset which can be easily installed and removed and, with good operating properties, can be produced simply and cheaply without size-dependent tools.
The invention is based on the knowledge that it is possible to create temperature-resistant and wear-resistant sealing elements that seal only at their end faces if a roll of a strip made of elastically bound, non-combustible fibers is used for sealing, which is radially compressed ; this is possible although the strip is practically inelastic due to the fiber content. As such, this could be achieved by inserting a roll of the specified material into a recess of the part having the non-displaceable counter surface.
The difficulty of such a procedure, however, is that in order to be able to compress it radially sufficiently strongly, the winding would have to be pressed into the annular groove-shaped recess under high pressure, which leads to deformation of the sealing element and therefore to leaks. In addition, in such an arrangement, the removal of a used roll that has been exposed to an elevated temperature is relatively difficult because the roll burns into the ring groove and the required cleaning of the opposing surfaces can lead to their damage.
A ring-shaped sealing element designed according to the invention, which serves to seal between a counter surface which cannot be displaced relative to it and a spherical counter surface which can be pivoted relative to it about its center point, is now characterized in that it has one to the ring axis has coaxial winding, which is formed from an elastically bound, non-combustible fibers sealing strip and which is pressed together in the radial direction by metallic retaining rings provided on its inner jacket and outer jacket,
so that only the two end faces of the roll form sealing surfaces to the counter surfaces.
With the sealing element according to the invention, the edging of the sealing roll made of the specified material achieves two things: On the one hand, the individual turns of the roll can be pressed against each other when the element is being built up in such a way that the mixture of non-flammable fibers, which was already strongly consolidated during the strip production, on the end of the roll and the elastic binding medium is compressed even more and therefore has the necessary sealing ability against both mating surfaces and excellent wear resistance against the shear forces of the spherical mating surface, even at higher temperatures.
On the other hand, the sealing element can be used precisely centered in the part facing the immovable counter surface without the use of force, so that the two end faces of the element can be processed exactly the desired counter surfaces prior to installation and only then used.
The sealing elements according to the invention wei sen also at high temperatures good resistance to wear due to the spherical surface grinding over it, because the element through the two retaining rings both the necessary Ver consolidation of the wound strips of elastically bound, non-combustible fibers and the necessary Resistance to deformation is granted before installation. Asbestos, glass or slag wool or the like can be used as fiber materials; these fibers can be bound by synthetic or natural rubber as well as by elastic plastics, insofar as they result in a strip that can be wound.
Since the sealing element according to the invention has the required dimensional stability through the border, there is no risk of damage to the mating surfaces. To increase the wear resistance, if necessary, in the sealing strip or between adjacent turns of the roll, regardless of their strength, suitable material inserts in the form of foils or grids that do not attack the opposing surface, e.g. B. made of nickel or aluminum are provided. The retaining rings can also consist of a wound metal band, which can be provided with a longitudinal bead to increase the ring elasticity. The retaining rings can also be fitted with fasteners, e.g.
B. a thread provided.
In the manufacture of the sealing element according to the invention, the retaining rings must be connected to the winding turns while compressing them. For this purpose, according to the invention, the inner retaining ring is first applied to a winding core, then the sealing strip is connected to the retaining ring or the winding core and wound onto the retaining ring under the pressure of a pressure roller acting against the winding axis, whereupon the second outside with the winding Retaining ring is firmly connected.
At least one retaining ring can be formed by several turns of a metal strip, the turns of which are connected to one another; the connection with the sealing roll is achieved by overlapping the associated metal strip end with one end of the sealing strip. However, it is also possible to connect one or both retaining rings to the sealing roll by pressing on or in. The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to some Ausführungsbei shown in the accompanying drawings.
1 shows, in axial section, a still unprocessed sealing element according to the invention, in which the winding made of sealing material is enclosed by two integral retaining rings.
In Fig. 2, a differently designed sealing element according to the invention is shown, which is completely wound.
3 is a longitudinal section through a pipe joint with a sealing element according to the invention, and FIG. 4 shows in axial section a valve with a spherical plug which is provided with a sealing element according to the invention.
The sealing element according to FIG. 1 has a coil of strip-shaped sealing material with essentially flat end faces. The coil 1 is pressed into an outer retaining ring 2 pointing to the height of the sealing coil and framed on the inner jacket by an inner retaining ring 3 with a lower height than the outer retaining ring, so that the coil is subject to radial pressure. The sealing strips forming the roll are advantageously no thicker than 3-4. made mm; the thickness depends of course on the size of the element, because it should make up only a fraction of the winding height in any case.
The strip can either consist of a sheet of incombustible fibers bound with elastic binders, e.g. B. an It plate, be cut th or the same made in strip form who the.
The end faces of the roll 1 and the two retaining rings 2, 3 lie in a plane which is intended to rest on a flat, immovable counter surface. If it is necessary to achieve the necessary tightness on this mating surface, the retaining rings can also be designed to jump back from the plane of the roll. The other end face of the roll intended for sealing against the spherical mating face is not yet excepted in the shape of a cup (along the dashed line). This can be done either by turning or pressing a spherical shape, which is advantageously done under the action of heat.
Care must be taken here that the ball cannot come into contact with one of the two retaining rings, but advantageously only has a small amount of play with these - at least with the inner retaining ring 3 - for secure framing of the sealing roll and only on the sealing roll 1 sit up yourself. For this purpose, the face 4 of the inner sealing ring 3 facing towards the spherical sealing surface is tapered inwardly, with - seen in a radial plane, the inclination of this conical surface with the inclination of the recess of the sealing coil formed by the spherical sealing surface on the inner circumference approximately matches.
The retaining rings sit firmly on the sealing roll because they rest against the sealing roll under pressure and therefore form a unit that can be easily manipulated as spare parts.
The illustrated in Fig. 2 sealing element according to the invention is entirely by winding Herge provides by a metal band of suitable strength, for. B. a steel band is used to form the inner and outer retaining ring; First, a piece of the metal band is wrapped around a core and connected by gluing or welding the individual turns to an inner retaining ring 3, then a sealing strip is wrapped to form the sealing coil 1, overlapping the end of the metal band on the inner retaining ring, whereby a pressure roller pressing against the winding core ensures the compression of the winding.
Then a piece of metal tape is wound again to form the outer retaining ring 2 during and after the sealing strip has run out. Between the turns of the sealing strip, a screen strip 5 made of nickel wires is inserted to increase the wear resistance. The dome-shaped recess on one end face can in this case only be produced by turning or grinding, with the planar surface on the other end face also being able to be machined if necessary.
The inner retaining ring 3 is advantageously turned off to a height that is slightly smaller than the height of the inner jacket of the sealing roll 1, since the ball can only come into contact with the spherical sealing surface. The inner retaining ring is formed by winding a longitudinally corrugated metal band;
the sealing strip wrapped over it and the inserted grid strip accordingly also have a longitudinal bend, so that the entire element has increased elasticity. It is of course also possible to form one or both retaining rings in one piece and to use the metal strip only to form a retaining ring. In this case, too, it must be ensured that the inner retaining ring 3 is lower than the inner jacket of the sealing coil 1.
The tap shown in Fig, 3 has a spherical chick 6, which is supported by a threaded connection 9 supported by a threaded connection 9 in an upper part 10 movement bolt 11 and an attached actuation handle 8 is rotatable via a ball-shaped chick 6. The bolt 11 is sealed to the outside by a gland packing 12, which is embedded in the housing 7 and is pressed together by the upper part 10.
The ball 6 is mounted coaxially to the flow direction in two sealing elements la, according to the invention, one of which is seated in the housing 7 and the other in a flange connector 8 closing the housing opening for the ball 6. To seal the Ge housing interior to the outside, a flat gasket 13 is provided between the Ge housing and the flange connector, which is brought into effect by pressing the flange connector 8 on the housing 7 by means of hexagon screws 14.
Manufacturing tolerances of the ball 6, the housing 7, the flange connection 8 and the flat seal 13 are recorded by the sealing element. If the sealing wraps 1 are dimensioned so that they come under pressure even in the worst case and on the other hand are so plastic that they can be compressed within the tolerance ranges, the retaining rings 2, 3 with the ball 6 should only have relatively little play so that the Material of the log processing winding 1 only compressed, but not through the gap between the ball 6 and the neigh disclosed edges of the retaining rings 2, 3 can escape.
In this way, the sealing material of the sealing elements la rests against the ball under internal prestress, so that the slight wear that occurs in any case when the ball is rotated around the axis of the movement bolt can be absorbed over long operating periods without deteriorating the sealing effect.
If practically inelastic sealing elements are used, the elasticity of which is not sufficient to compensate for the manufacturing tolerances, the sealing element on the side of the flange connection is expediently received by a screw ring or provided with an external thread and a support flange on the outer retaining ring and via a threaded connection in the housing 7 From seal stored against this, so that by turning the screw ring or the sealing element this ver relative to the other sealing element can be adjusted.
In this way, the necessary pressure on the ball can be achieved regardless of the elasticity of the elements.
As can be seen from the drawing, the sealing elements according to the invention also have the advantage that they can easily be removed from the housing. Since the sealing material, which is firmly adhering to itself after a certain operating time, only contacts the housing with the end face, detaching the element and cleaning the counter surface on the housing is very easy.
In Fig.4 a pipe joint is shown. Such pipe joints are installed, for example, in the supply line for steam to multi-stage presses. Here, with the interposition of flat seals 19, a ball 17 is screwed onto one (15) of the pipe parts 15, 16 to be connected and a counterpart 18 is screwed onto the end of the other pipe part 16. In the counterpart, a sealing element 20 according to the invention is stored ge. By screwing a press ring 21 supported on the ball 17 onto the counterpart 18, the ball of one tube is pressed against the sealing element and this against the flat counter surface of the counterpart.
By rotating this press ring, it is possible to achieve a suitable compression between the sealing element and the mating surfaces, so that, on the one hand, a good sealing effect and, on the other hand, easy pivotability of the two tubes against one another is guaranteed.
