Fig. 3 eine abgeänderte Spritzeinrichtung in gleichartiger Darstellung,
Method and device for the manufacture of rubber articles
The invention relates to a method for producing rubber articles using an injection plunger which is movable in a press cylinder and which injects the plastic starting rubber mixture through an injection nozzle into a heated mold, and to a device for performing the method.
According to the invention, in such a method, the rubber mixture is first transferred to successive zones of increasing temperatures in the direction after the spray nozzle and is preheated to a maximum possible temperature that does not lead to vulcanization within a selectable period of time until it enters the spray nozzle and then by injection into the mold brought the vulcanization temperature and fully vulcanized in the mold.
As a result of the temperature graduation according to the invention, the rubber mixture is gradually or continuously heated through and through up to a limit temperature. Depending on the mixture being processed, this limit temperature is selected in such a way that vulcanization occurs during the dwell time of the mixture in the spray nozzle, i. H. that is, it does not yet set in within an entire working cycle of the injection plunger, but the mixture can be injected into the mold with the start of the injection process in a state of maximum flowability.
As soon as the preheated rubber mixture hits the heated mold walls, vulcanization begins immediately, which under these circumstances is completed after a surprisingly short period of time. The increase in temperature of the mixture during the injection molding process can be accelerated by a very thin or flat cross-sectional design of the inlet groove in the mold, which is as long as possible.
In order to achieve uniform heat penetration, only a partial amount of the rubber mixture in the press cylinder is expediently injected into the mold with the working stroke of the injection piston. The raw mixture can be conveyed into the press cylinder of the injection piston under pressure, for example with the aid of screw conveyors or press pistons, or it can also be supplied in the form of rods or pourable granulate.
The inventive method offers the possibility of producing the rubber article without a mold drive. In contrast to vulcanization in compression molds, the molds can therefore be designed with sealing surfaces that seal one another in the manner of a valve. Proceeding from this, it is proposed that a closing force which substantially exceeds the compressive force of the injection plunger be applied to the mold without delay, in rhythm with the injection process. A valve-tight closing of the mold is ensured by such a very high closing force that suddenly becomes effective. The articles produced practically without burrs can then be easily removed from the mold in a manner suitable for packaging.
In addition to saving the amount of work for the otherwise necessary deburring, a further advantage is the elimination of the inevitable rejects that result from deburring.
The invention is illustrated in the drawing by means of the schematic representation of, for example, devices for carrying out the method according to the invention. In the drawing is:
1 shows a comparison of the temperature profile during vulcanization in compression molds on the one hand and in injection molds according to the method according to the invention on the other hand,
2 shows a spray device used for carrying out the method according to the invention with a vertical spray direction in section,
3 shows a modified spray device in a similar representation,
4 shows the sectional representation of a spray device with a horizontal spray direction and
5 shows the arrangement of a spray device with several associated molds.
The diagram according to FIG. 1 illustrates the time savings achieved by the method according to the invention compared to the production of rubber articles according to the usual compression molds. The vulcanization time Z in minutes is plotted on the abscissa, while the temperature of the mixture in oC is plotted on the ordinate. The solid curve corresponds to the course of vulcanization during injection molding, while the relationships during compression molding are shown by the dashed lines.
If the material is placed in the mold at room temperature and fully vulcanized according to the curve C-C 'at a final temperature of, for example, 1600 C, a time c of the order of 15 minutes is required for this. In contrast, in the method according to the invention, the material is preheated to a limit temperature of 1150 according to curve A-B in the course of the advance towards the spray nozzle. The time a required for this, for example 15 minutes, is not to be regarded as a dead time, since it coincides with previous vulcanization periods. The injection process begins when the limit temperature is reached at point B and, according to the line B-B ', leads to the vulcanization of the article in time b.
In the example chosen, the article can be removed from the mold 2 1/2 minutes after injection. The time saved compared to compression molding corresponds to the difference c-b and, in the present case, amounts to d = 12 5 minutes.
A transfer press constructed according to FIG. 2 can be used to carry out the method according to the invention. The press contains, as an essential part, an injection head 1 which can be moved up and down in vertical guides 3 under the action of a pressure cylinder 2.
The spray head 1 carries the upwardly conically narrowing spray nozzle 4 at the upper end and contains inside the spray piston 5 designed as a differential piston, which can be acted upon with pressure medium on its larger lower surface facing away from the working surface 5 '. A conveying device in the form of a press screw 6 with a drive motor 7 is attached to the side of the injection head, by means of which the rubber mixture is introduced into the press cylinder 15. The injection mold 9 is located between heating plates 10, 11 in a press frame 12 above the injection head 1.
In the exemplary embodiment shown, it is designed with two plates and can be closed by applying pressure medium to a membrane plunger 13. The injection opening is located in the lower plate of the mold, against which the spray nozzle 4 moving from below into the press frame 12 can be placed.
The device is shown in the drawing in the position assumed when performing an injection process. The raw material is expediently applied in bar or strip form to the screw 6 through the filling funnel 8 and is conveyed from this into the press cylinder 15. In the lowermost position of the injection piston 5, the lateral feed bore 14 is released so that the rubber mixture reaches the heated cylinder space in front of the piston surface 5 '.
Since the rubber mixture is introduced into the cylinder chamber at a temperature essentially corresponding to room temperature and is replaced by colder material after each injection process, the mixture immediately in front of the piston surface 5 'cannot become so plastic that the seal between the piston and the cylinder wall is questionable could be. At the beginning of a work cycle, the mold 11 is initially closed by applying pressure to the diaphragm piston 13.
Since the comparatively large diaphragm piston only needs to travel a short stroke of the order of magnitude of a few millimeters for this purpose, this takes place with extraordinary speed and great force, so that the shape with security against the later onset of pressure force of the at the same time by the lifting cylinder 2 in the drawing Position raised spray head 1 is kept closed. As soon as the spray nozzle 4 rests against the lower plate of the mold 9, the working stroke of the spray piston 5 is triggered. The preheated rubber mixture located in the spray nozzle is enclosed in the mold 9 and vulcanized in it.
The injection piston 5 moves upwards until an equilibrium of forces is reached. This process can also be controlled according to the time and canceled beforehand.
Since the stroke volume of the press cylinder 15 in the injection head 1 is significantly larger than the volume of the mold 9, only a partial amount of the rubber mixture present is injected into the mold with one working stroke of the injection piston 5. The remaining remainder reaches areas of higher temperatures when moving towards the spray nozzle 4, which areas are no longer cooled by contact with the comparatively colder spray piston.
The step-by-step advancement within the spray head causes intensive heating of the rubber mixture right down to the core, so that when entering the spray nozzle as the final phase of preheating, a uniform temperature distribution is achieved.
After the injection head 1 has been lowered and the injection piston 5 has returned to its starting position, the press cylinder 15 is refilled by introducing further raw material through the bore 14 under the press pressure of the screw conveyor 6. At the same time, the mold 9 is relieved of the force of the diaphragm piston 13, pulled out of the press frame 12 and emptied and then moved back into the press frame. The next work cycle can begin when the rubber mixture in the spray nozzle 4 reaches the set limit temperature
The individual work processes are advantageously triggered as a function of one another and run automatically one after the other in an inevitable sequence. The drive pulses are expediently controlled by thermostats; however, optical, electrical or mechanical means can also be used instead.
In addition, it is possible to trigger the drive pulses using timers according to a specified program.
The device according to FIG. 3 corresponds in structure and mode of operation to the press shown in FIG. 2, with the difference that instead of a continuously operating press screw, an intermittent press piston 6 'is provided for introducing the raw material under pressure into the press cylinder 15 of the injection head 1 is.
While the spray devices according to FIGS. 2 and 3 spray vertically from below into the mold 9, the device shown in FIG. 4 is designed for a horizontal spray device with injection in the parting plane of the mold. This arrangement allows a simpler, more robust construction and, moreover, results in better accessibility, which is favorable for loading. The mold 9 is also closed in the vertical direction under the action of the diaphragm piston 13 and can be moved in the horizontal direction for emptying and loading, for example by means of a threaded spindle 16 with nut 17 and drive motor 18.
The device according to FIG. 5 consists of a press with an injection head 1 and several associated injection molds 9. The molds 9 are arranged on the circumference of a rotatably mounted, intermittently driven rotary table 19 and are successively moved by this into the injection position between the injection head 1 and the membrane plunger 13 funded. After the injection molding process, the molds can be held under the applied compressive stress for several work cycles by running under a slide rail 20 in order to allow post-vulcanization to take effect. This device is particularly suitable for the production of relatively small articles in quick succession, which each require only a very small stroke of the injection plunger to fill the injection mold.
The method according to the invention and the devices described are not limited to the processing of rubber mixtures alone, but are also suitable for synthetic rubbers.
